UPDATE! Rumored Star Wars Episode VIII Dubrovnik Shooting Dates and Locations. Mayor of Dubrovnik at Lucafilm Headquarters.
The Dubrovnik Times is reporting on StarWarsDubrovnik’s post today that they have info that Space Bear Industries has finalized deals to film in Dubrovnik, Croatia next month and lists some possible locations that will be used. You’ll recall Space Bear Industries is a subsidiary of Foodles, Inc. Foodles is a subsidiary of Disney that is used for setting up filming locations and production for the Star Wars movies. The name Foodles is presumably used to disguise filming details, but due to the rabid fanbase and constant search for filming details, that may not be working as well as they anticipated.

The rumored dates of production in Dubrovnik for Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII are March 9th through March 16 of 2016. With the first two days used for site prep and 6 days of actual shooting. While this is not an extremely large amount of time, 6 days is a pretty significant shoot and would indicate more than just a brief appearance as we saw for something like Hosnian Prime in The Fore Awakens. With the assumption that there could be reshoots or that interiors or night shots could be done in the studio, we could be looking at anything from a brief appearance for a couple quick scenes, or a central location for the film with a significant portion of shooting occurring in studio and on location being used only for exteriors and establishing shots.
Also of interest in the report, the site gives a few pictures of the rumored locations that will be used which include a beach and a number of places within the city leading to believe that this location will be used as the site of a city or civilization of some sort. The question of course will then be, is this a new planet or a new location within a planet we’ve seen before? The new location would immediately have one believe that this will be an entirely new planet. A new planet does seem like the most likely scenario here, but the architecture in Dubrovnik wouldn’t be too much of a stretch if they wanted to use it as a new location or city on a planet like Naboo, that has been ravaged by the neglect and damage of 6 decades or so of war.
Take a look at the rest of the pictures below and take your guesses in the comments. And head to StarWarsDubrovnik for the entire story.

The Dubrovnik Times reports that Mayor of Dubrovnik is currently in California visiting Lucasfilm headquarters.
Andro Vlahusic posted on his social accounts several photos from his visit, pretty much officially confirming the Dubrovnik shoot. He also said:
“You can only succeed if you have persistence, wisdom and the help of friends. Thank you for believing in me and now our dreams will come true.”
Also StarWarsDubrovnik adds that the official cost of the actual filming will be approximately around $5,4 million per day.
Too Earthy. It’ll prob just be a castle w/ the background Lucasfied.
Kinda like The Naboo Plaza filmed in Seville Spain, or Theed palace filmed in Caserta Italy.
No
Snoke’s planet?
Nor dark enough. Snoke is on an evil planet of evilness.
Might be the new or secret First Order base. Maybe next month we’ll find out which actors are there during shooting.
Maybe. They could certainly make it look more evil with some color correction.
Don’t worry people. Those pictures are not quite the best presentation of locations ideal for SW, but there sure are plenty of hidden gems that I believe the team has recognized. I’m sure they wouldn’t settle for anything less than great, so… Keep calm and stay tuned 🙂
This must be where Rey and Finn take their romantic beach vacation!
GeekOut?
more like
Get out.
Hey, I could have said it must be where Rey, Finn and Poe take their three way romantic vacation!!! 🙂
That would be worth the price of admission.
I’m not sure, maybe Rey doesn’t like sand…
I always imagine her sitting by the foot of that fallen AT-AT she calls home, fuming to herself: “I HATE SAND! It’s coarse and rough and irritating, and…” [pan out to reveal Jakku desert] “… it GETS EVERYWHERE!”
lol
“I’m haunted by the kiss that you should have never have given me.
My heart is beating, hoping that kiss will not become a scar.”
Didn’t Lucas say that to his fans after making TPM?
No he didn’t.
I wasn’t being serious. ;P
Please, don’t. Just don’t.
Doesn’t look snowy, doesn’t look swampy, and doesn’t look Bespin-y. I think we can at least confirm that it’ll steer away from retelling the OT.
A single location and 6 days of filming does not a film make.
Maybe not, but at least it’s a sign that we’re changing directions, no matter how insignificant and vague that sign is.
Better than them scouting a desert.
You know what? I don’t know what to say about this location. I don’t know if it’s good for SW or not. I don’t know if it will be a new planet or a one we already know. I don’t know if they will shot the places, the castle or the landscapes. I don’t know if it will be a Jedi Temple, a new city or just a dream. I just don’t know what to think about this. Really. Today I’m lost…
New location on Naboo?
If it’s not Naboo then maybe it’s the planet where Vader’s castle is..something that I think was shown in TFA’s art book.
I can think of a Naboo-ish planet only, with the -ish being significant. But they can literally screw the whole place up and make it look really different than what it is.
There’s no war here….. Unless you brought it with you.
Obviously, Rey discovers she’s a Lannister and decides to visit King’s Landing…
i just thinking it looks a little like sunspear. 🙂
It’s where Rey finds out she is related to Kylo Ren and he cuts her hand off.
After she leaves Luke’s training when she has a vision of Finn in trouble.
Like a militarized Naboo
Dubrovnik would be a great Naboo.
Mandaloreeeee!!!
Chandrila maybe???
In the art book there is a Mediterranean Sea space port that looks identical to Dubrovnik
if this is a new planet, i’m stoked. if this is naboo, i’m stoked. if this is star wars, i’m stoked. anyone else?
I’ve been stoked since October 30 2012
Why would it be Naboo?
People kept saying Yavin or Endor would be in TFA due to filming in forests. Turned out they weren’t. So now they’re filming in a Mediterranean city and it’s supposed to be the same as another Mediterranean city?
TFA had a sand planet, some forest planets, and a snow planet.. it was intended to mirror planets that we are already familiar with. Given that we know Naboo has a mediterranean feel, it wouldn’t be foolish to assume they might be taking us back to that very planet or something mirroring that planet.. it wasn’t a fluke that the planets from TFA were all VERY similar to ones we’re familiar with..
So Game of Thrones’ Kings Landing will be SW Canon?
I think Star Wars is one of the only film series filmed on every continent on Earth (if you count plates) which is even more than Bond/Indy who have never shot anything in Oz.
Friggin’ awesome.

Why the heck did you reply to me with a long list of shooting locations? Seems kind of random.
Wanted to see if I could name them all without looking it up and if someone noticed if I missed any,
In that case, hats off to you. It looks like you got them all. The only thing you forgot was “large green wall” for the 4 newer ones.
I might have missed a few plates for ROTS and we still don’t know the rest for VIII or IX yet nor the spinoffs.
I think that Star Wars was never filmed in Australia and Antartica.
Soo they still have 2 continents left.
II and III were in Australia. I also think they shot plates there for Geonosis too. No Anarctica but they can say that they shot on all the human populated ones.
Episode II and III were filmed in Australia. Learn Star Wars history and do not embarrass yourself.
the thing that’s always struck me as odd with Star Wars planets is that they’re always depicted/referred to as only having one environment… Hoth is ‘the snow one’, Tatooine and Jakku are ‘the desert ones’, Geonosis ‘rocky one’, Dagobah ‘swamp one’, Endor ‘forest one’… yet, our own planet contains all of these – you never see an environmental transition, like looking down on fields and forest from a snowy mountain. The closest we’ve had so far is Ahch-To with sea and a rocky/green island.
I wonder if any of the planets do contain more than one environment – for example, Hoth also having an iceberg filled sea or something…
