UPDATE! Get your First Complete Look at the Model of the Upcoming Star Wars Land for Disney Parks
D23 officially gets underway today, and the live action films panel isn’t until later this weekend, but media got access to the convention floor last night and gave us some stunning looks at some of what Disney Parks has to offer in terms of the upcoming Star Wars lands in Anaheim and Orlando. Read on for the details.
The new lands aren’t scheduled to open until 2019, but if the model is anything remotely like what they build in real life, we are certainly in for a treat. The scale model of the entire land shows winding pathways, alien bazaars, iconic ships and characters all in a brand new world that still feels distinctly Star Wars. It really looks like in a couple of years fans will be to feel like they’ve walked right into a new planet in the Star Wars universe.
Detail looks on par with Universal’s Harry Potter Land and the recently opened Avatar Land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida. So, if those experiences are anything to go off of, the level of detail and Easter eggs available to us Star Wars fans should be off the charts come 2019.
In addition to the model, Disney Parks also showed off some props and concept art from the upcoming land, including a look at the likely ride vehicle for the First Order Battle Escape attraction. The vehicle seats 8 people and seems to be piloted by a droid as it takes you through the middle of a battle between the Resistance and First Order troops.
Here are two more very cool thorough videos thanks to our friends from Inside the Magic:
Stay Tuned throughout the weekend for all the Star Wars coverage from D23 including the films panel tomorrow and likely more info on Star Wars land from the parks panel as well.

UPDATE!
Inside The Magic also spoke with Scott Trowbridge, creative lead for the Star Wars Land, who did a very good tour through the newly revealed model:
My kind of Heaven
Mecca (Jedha) for the true believers!
Any chance the music in that extended clip is from TLJ? Sounds like an alternated version of the resistance theme
Probably just in-house Disney composers who compose music for the various sections of the Disney parks.
Almost no chance, I would think
Ouch
It’s not from TLJ I’ve heard it before but I can’t make out where, it might have been battlefront?
It sounds reminiscent of the Resistance theme and last time I checked, Battlefront doesn’t have any sequel trilogy content. Regardless, I’m pumped to hear the TLJ score!
If it’s the first track they play after the Star Wars theme then it’s from battlefront, the part after is foreign to me lol. But as uncle deadly mentioned it’s probably stock music from Disney. If it was from TLJ you would know cause they would’ve made a big deal about it.
Will be going no doubt when it opens but hopefully there will be more than park announcements come out of d23. I do not think Lucasfilm has ever had a decent panel at this event.
It does look fantastic, but how are they going to achieve the backdrop and the twins moons in the sky?
Easy. Each ticket includes one hit of acid.
to be in a Galaxy far far away is closer then I know it.
Looks a lot like Myrkr which ironically no longer canon.
I wonder what scale this set model is. 1:18 so the 3.75″ figures would fit? 🙂

Touche´
What is this? A theme park for ANTS? IDIOTS! It’s going to have to be at least….THREE TIMES bigger.
people should visit it dressed in star wars cosplay or they should have the option for a rented wardrobe change before entering ( ala westworld) to make the illusion perfect when visiting
I like that, I was planning to. people who aren’t dressed up are going to feel out of place like me going into a vegetarian supermarket looking for steak.
They don’t allow cosplay in Disney.
they will not know it, I will be GL !
I’m sure you’ll get people who want to troll by dressing up as Star Trek characters.
You’ll have people with Star Trek shirts for sure..but little do they know they’re stepping in the wrong hood.
As I understand it, people are forbidden from cosplaying as Disney characters at Disneyland and Disneyworld. It’s a security issue: basically, to prevent creepers and would-be kidnappers from being able to lure kids by pretending to be park employees. I’ve heard the policy was instituted because, sadly, some awful people actually attempted (and maybe even succeeded) at such things. Have I heard correctly?
It’s mostly due to the fact that kids could get confused if they see Cinderella smoking a cig off on the side or kissing someone that isn’t Prince Charming or cursing etc etc
in that heat? No thanks
I wonder how they are going to create the double moon.
They’re gonna ask NASA to build one, duh.
I went to Disney world a few weeks ago with my family and saw the new Pandora land in Animal Kingdom. I didn’t really care for the movie but it was impressive to see what Disney was able to do with it. They nailed the feel and look of Pandora. So I’m sure this is going to be incredible.
I was down there but it was too crowded to even get close to it. Saw the floating mountains from the other side of the park and it still looked awesome. Say whatever you want about Disney handling of Star Wars, but the way they build their parks and the details they put into them in absolutely amazing.
I’ll fight a kid to get on the falcon. I don’t care.
Didn’t they show AT-ATs being built at one point? I don’t see them anywhere in the park.
Perhaps they didn’t reveal them because they are the walkers from TLJ and they don’t want their first appearance in public to be in this model? Just my theory.
Possible! But haven’t the LEGO sets been leaked for a while now?
Yeah, but those were leaks, not official.
I believe those photos showed the AT-ATs being built inside of another building as if they were going to be part of an indoor roller coaster or something.
2019’s gonna be really busy (and crowded).
Timeline of this park: Perhaps it’s after Episode VIII. Because the Millennium Falcon is in this.
Guess about the FO Troop Transport ride: it takes you into a FO shuttle, which “launches” into space and enters a Star Destroyer. The Transport exits the shuttle and you’re given a tour of the Destroyer’s hanger bay. Suddenly, the Resistance strikes, so the Transport moves faster, to escape the onslaught, taking riders through various sections of the Destroyer, into the hold of another Shuttle, which in turns leaves the hanger bay and goes back down to the planet. End of ride. Exit to gift shop.
It’s not going to feel like Star Wars with a load of fat Americans in shorts and baseball caps walking around.
Maybe the park takes place on Nal Hutta, the home planet of the Hutts. Then it will make sense.
You win comment of the day.
I would be offended, but you’re not wrong.
My body is ready.
