UPDATE! Daisy Ridley Meets the Press at the Oscar Wilde Awards

landscape-1450797570-daisyridleyDaisy Ridley has been in the news again recently as she made an appearance at the US-Ireland Alliance Oscar Wilde Awards. The press were eager to get to talk to the actress now that she has gone from an unknown to a household name since the premiere and initial press tour for The Force Awakens. Breaking News had some of Ridley’s comments.

So how has Daisy’s life changed?

It’s different now because people have seen me in a film but people don’t tend to recognise me that much because I don’t tend to look like this and I’m filming a film which is what I was doing before anyway, everyone really freaked me out but really it’s fine.

Simon Pegg said, in the wise words of Han Solo, “here’s where the fun begins” and he just said “enjoy it”, it’s nice because even the days when people recognise you it’s for a good reason.

Daisy also had some comments on the similarities between JJ Abrams and her new director on Episode VIII, Rian Johnson.

They are obviously different in their whole lives but both really kind and you see that in the crew and once again I feel very warm and welcomed into a crew.

Also, EOnline had some comments from director JJ Abrams who revealed that Daisy may just have some other work coming outside of acting. Apparently, she is also quite the singer.

“One day on set, she just started singing and had the most beautiful voice I ever heard,” Star Wars director J.J. Abrams said last night at the U.S.-Ireland Alliance’s Oscar Wilde Awards, where Ridley was among this year’s honorees.

Just the other day, Ridley told Abrams, “On Saturday, this weekend, she is going to record a song with an unnamed person, but let’s just say a massive superstar.”

UPDATE!

Also Ridley spoke about her experience filming TFA on Skellig Michael:

Ridley will likely continue to be in the news as she is scheduled to present at the Academy Awards on Sunday.

I can’t stand all this ego-building that she’s been gaining ever since TFA. She’s a Star Wars actor and nothing more. Media, story trying to make her become mainstream outside of Star Wars!

And so the backlash begins – why should she limit herself to just one thing, oscar issac does other films, as does adam driver, domhnall gleeson, all of them.

talk about inflated ego should be left for john boyega – all you fanboys of his can’t deal with the fact he’s a secondary character and the Rey is the lead role

So what? Han Solo was a secondary character to Luke, but many love him more.

The main problem with Finn was that TFA kept making him look bad compared to Rey. He needed saving 3-4 times, had no special skills, was made the butt of several jokes, was used by Disney’s marketing to hide the fact that Rey was the real Jedi in TFA, he lost both lightsaber fights and couldn’t even finish the film conscious.

Finn had a few decent moments as a team player, but he kept losing on his own. He couldn’t even save Rey during the air strike without it knocking him out. Finn was marketed as Rey’s co-lead, but he felt more like her bumbling comedic sidekick.

Harrison Ford wasn’t stuck to Star Wars exclusively.
Mark Hamill wasn’t stuck to Star Wars exclusively.
James Earl Jones wasn’t stuck to Star Wars exclusively.
Frank Oz wasn’t stuck to Star Wars exclusively.
Billy Dee WIlliams wasn’t stuck to Star Wars exclusively.
Natalie Portman wasn’t stuck to Star Wars exclusively.
Ewan McGregor wasn’t stuck to Star Wars exclusively.

Why the hell should Daisy Ridley or John Boyega be?

This may be so with Hamill and Fisher but are they really known for much else on a wide scale besides Star Wars (besides Joker voice acting and writing respectively and even those gigs they aren’t as widely known to the masses unless those lines of work are your niche)? Not realty. They got typecasted. It’s not going to be nor should it be different for Ridley or Boyega, Unfortunately typecasting is a curse yet a necessary evil whenever a Star Wars actor lands a part in a SW film. Most SW actors shouldn’t be thinking that they’re hot s*** that they can pursue something else outside of SW just because they have a part in a large franchise.

Your original comment made typecasting sound like a good thing.

“Nor should it be different for Ridley or Boyega”? So you’re saying they don’t deserve to find success beyond the confines of the franchise? Please tell us why, O Enlightened One, they shouldn’t be allowed to seek other opportunities.

I’m gonna’ disagree with you on general principle for citing Family Guy as evidence.

John Boyega has already been in more than just Star Wars so he’s already not an exclusive to Star Wars. So, I’m assuming your nitpick is targeting Daisy Ridley specifically now with that newfound knowledge.

Shouldn’t it be a positive thing as an actress or actor to avoid being typecasted? Hence their agents should try to get more roles for them besides just the one hit wonders.

While Hamill and Fisher didn’t enjoy the sort of success that Ford did after Star Wars, the reasons for that are probably not nearly as simple as you state. Even so, both Hamill and Fisher were hardly unemployed.

And I hardly think that Ridley or Boyega are out there touting themselves as hot “s***”. They’re young actors who’ve landed the lead roles in Star Wars and are out there enjoying a bit of fame and recognition. Why in the world would you begrudge them that? Will they have burgeoning careers down the road? Who knows? Who cares? Bemoaning it just comes across as old and geezerly.

Truth. If Tom Selleck had been allowed to star in Raiders, there’s no way Ford’s career would have taken off. Most of the stuff Ford did between Star Wars and Empire was junk. Yeah,he put in the work, but you can’t discount luck.

This makes no sense. While her acting career was still in its infancy before Star Wars, playing Rey has catapulted her to stardom. The media hardly brought her to the public’s attention. The enormous, record-breaking movie known as The Force Awakens just might have done that.

“Star Wars actor and nothing more.” – Haha!

I’m not sure why @swboss:disqus would be against Daisy Ridley getting famous; I say, let her talent decide it.
If she’s cast in other things, and she does good, then why the hell would we NOT want to see her in other stuff?
Sure, it’s one thing if the actor really is shit, but give ’em a chance to PROVE they are shit. To quote Ben Franklin: “presumed talented until proven shit”.
She don’t got nothing to prove, she’s just an actress doing her job, and I for one am very curious to see how her and John Boyega play other non-SW characters because I suspect that they are both legitimately good actors.

Eh. He’s just being contrary. He has some issue with these young people getting attention because of Star Wars. Whatever. I say let ’em live it up and enjoy the fame. If it’s fleeting, so be it. Enjoy it while it lasts.

I think that Boyega and Ridley gave us some fantastic performances. In all likelihood, they’ll enjoy long careers. But one can never be absolutely certain. I said that they should enjoy the fame because if may be fleeting, not that it necessarily will be fleeting.

I think Oscar Issac will be the biggest star of this new trilogy as he already has a pretty diverse resume as is and can play lots of varied parts, Plus he looks like an A-lister.
