Star Wars: The Force Awakens Wins Top Honors at the 53RD Annual ICG Publicist Awards!

The publicity team behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens won the Maxwell Weinberg Award for Best Publicity Campaign for a Motion Picture at the 53rd annual ICG Publicists Awards held Friday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

From TheHollywoodReporter:

The publicity team behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens said that in moments of unbelievable stress, they had incredible times promoting the movie. They noted that they knew they had to really focus their efforts on women, and also that consumer fatigue was a huge concern. “More was not better,” said one member of the publicity team. “We worked hard on being really disciplined since we were under intense media scrutiny and it was a tremendous challenge to keep the narrative and spoilers a secret.”

This is a well deserved recognition for the daunting task to promote one of the biggest movies of all time. Congrats to the whole team behind this.

10 Months before Rogue One hits theaters, we are eagerly awaiting to see what Disney has in store for us this time.

I’m only exited for Rouge One and the next two episodes. A standalone movie that I WOULD see is one based on the Clone Wars and just the clones.

Not sure whether to point out “exited” or “Rouge”. :/ spellchecking is hard sometimes.

Overall, I’m really impressed with TFA’s marketing compared to, say, Terminator or Marvel, or, basically any blockbuster these days.
So yeah, ‘had no idea there was a marketing award, but now that I know that’s a thing, yeah, cool. Good for them.

I was impressed with the pre-movie marketing, but not post-release. Very little media encouraging getting out to the theater and/or going back. Understandable in that they didn’t really “need” it though.

I will be shocked if Deadpool doesn’t win for 2016. Their marketing was brilliant.
