EA Announces Star Wars Battlefront II: Assault On Theed Gameplay Stream.
Not that long ago, word got out that Star Wars Battlefront II‘s EA Play presentation would feature Naboo. Now, they’re making it clear well in advance that we’re going to get a good look at the Prequel Trilogy planet to commemorate the first official gameplay reveal of the highly-anticipated sequel.
EA recently released some information on their website revealing that a “Star Wars Battlefront II: Assault On Theed” stream is going to happen soon as a part of their EA Play presentation.
Sleek N-1 Starfighters and Vulture Droids scream overhead spewing light and fire. Nimble AT-RT Walkers race around corners, pursued by roaring AATs. Agile Clone Jet Troopers hop from rooftop to rooftop, while rampaging B2 Super Battle Droids level everything in their path. Armies of Clones and Droids sprint across cover, their blazing weapons shattering the tranquility of the once-peaceful capital of Naboo. And at the center of the swirling melee the lightsabers and Darth Maul and Rey cut swaths through the ranks of the battling troopers.
It’s definitely interesting to hear that we’ll be seeing Rey in action and not Yoda or some other character – perhaps the Jedi Master isn’t completely ready just yet, or perhaps this is teasing a greater degree of freedom for players to switch between armies and eras in multiplayer. From the sound of things, players will at least be able to use heroes and villains across eras regardless of what army they’re fighting for (which makes it sound as though there will be a mode where heroes and villains from all Eras can fight against one another, much like in Pandemic’s Battlefront II 13 years ago). But those who were worried that EA somehow were going to save Prequel Trilogy content for post-launch DLC can take a huge sigh of relief: EA is already ready to show gameplay of Clone Wars Era combat.
The press release continues:
Prepare for the Assault on Theed! On June 10 at 12:30 PM PT, Darth Maul and other cross-era heroes enter the battlefield in a massive multiplayer livestream gameplay event you won’t want to miss. You might even become part of creating it. At EA Play, you’ll be able to watch the first-ever live gameplay reveal of Star Wars ™ Battlefront ™ II, featuring livestream of 40-player gameplay set during the Assault on Theed – one of the new multiplayer battles from the prequel trilogy. Clone Troopers will mount a desperate defense against the invading forces of the Separatist Battle Droids. Can the Republic forces stop the relentless crawl of the massive Multi-Troop Transport as it lumbers toward the palace doors?
EA is setting up a pair of 20-player teams made up of some of Twitch’s most popular streamers as the lucky 40 get to play the game for the first time. But that’s not all: lucky fans on social media can get a shot at winning big by Tweeting #EAStarWarsSweepstakes #AssaultOnTheed. The details are better explained on EA’s website, so I’ll just link to it there. This is a really cool way to hype up interest in this game and I can’t wait to see it in a little over a week.
Grant has been a fan of Star Wars for as long as he can remember, having seen every movie on the big screen. When he’s not hard at work with his college studies, he keeps himself busy by reporting on all kinds of Star Wars news for SWNN and general movie news on the sister site, Movie News Net. He served as a frequent commentator on SWNN’s The Resistance Broadcast.
A lot of people on here are going to be happy about this news. How long has it been since they had a game with PT content anyway? I’d say at least since TFU II which had to be nearly 10 years ago and even that was more of a OT one.
good point!
Not a fan of the PT per se but I enjoyed TCW and there were some good games from that era even if I didn’t care for the actual films they were based on.
This is the most glorious thing I have ever “heard” you say.
The PT as movies are not very good. Though, I do love ROTS flaws and all. But the novel is better. But the visual aesthetic and world felt so much bigger than the OT. I get why because the OT was focused on Luke and the rebellion. But this is a galaxy far far away.
And the PT on a visual aesthetic nailed it with Coruscant, Mustafar, Felucia etc. And a lot of the games really did capture that.
It is why I was a bit disappointed with the ST and the lack of creative new planets. Starkiller base, I guess you can count it, but even then was really stupid. Even RO, included a mix of old and new. Overall, my hope is that the ST will take that visual creativity of the PT and channel it while mixing it with the OT’s aesthetic.
We had PT content from 1999-2009. It’s been a while, but it’s not been neglected.
A lifetime in gaming though. Seems like everything else gets a sequel in a year or two.
Love seeing them including prequel content. Makes me so happy
Just purely from a visual and game play perspective, cutting droids up with lightsabers is always fun.
I just hope that the lightsabers actually work like lightsabers, especially when you play as Luke in the single player campaign. TFU gave me nightmares of slashing at Stormtroopers only for them to shoot me.
The world designs in the prequels really were great. It will be a blast to play in those sandboxes.
Well, it’s cool and all that we’ll be able to play as Rey in the PT era and Darth Maul in the ST era, but seriously?! Why market this particular battle to make it sound like Rey is the default hero? I know its just a game but could you imagine the outrage if they took out Darth Vader from the Hoth battle and changed him to Darth Maul? Screw this. I want to play as Qui-Gon Jinn and Padmé, do not force freaking Rey down my throat!!!
I suppose its just simple marketing. Rey is at the moment is the “Luke” of this generation (the poster character of Star Wars) + They probally dont want to reveal to many new characters (yes we hinted at yoda but they may want to show normal human hero gameplay over his which will likely be jumping).
IT’S A DEMO!
Wouldn’t freak out yet. This is a teaser, and I’m willing to believe they’ve deliberately taken heroes from the absolute extreme ends of the franchise just to show cross-generational heroes will be a thing in this game.
IT’S A DEMO! It’s not indicative of anything else
Calm down, bub. From the looks of things, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and possibly Jango Fett have been confirmed to be PT Era heroes. It just seems likely that Darth Maul and Rey are the most complete hero/villain units at this current time.

Jesus Christ calm your tits.
How is it making it seem like she is the default hero?
It’s a demo. How is this forcing her down your throat?
We’ve already seen the Civil War era. So they would have picked the standout villain from the prequel trilogy and pit them against the stand out hero of the sequel trilogy to best demonstrate the cross era gameplay.
Oh Theed…how painfully the name reminds me back in the days of playing The Phantom Menace on playstation, having to escort queen Amidala through a barrage of battle droids and tanks…good times…
Regardless, so excited to finally see prequel content getting some love!
Yeah, we only had about 14 years straight of it.
…That awkward feeling you get when the video game graphics are better that the CGI from the movie its based on.
lol, dude… lol
Really? I never had that feeling.
These were real miniatures, not CGI.
Wow. Those Gungan miniatures are amazing.
Tanks on that photo are miniatures. Real models.
Really? A movie from 1999 comparing to a game in 2017? Honestly though, it looked really good for 1999 standards.
I agree it did look good for 1999 and I enjoyed it. I am just excited that this game could look even better.
And why shouldn’t it be compared. It might very well be the “same” scene.
Its just obvious that todays CGI is way better than 18 years ago, sure you can compare the scene but technically it is just not fair.
I hope we get jango fett general grievous and anakin skywalker
It is great to see PT stuff again.
That’s really cool. I’m loving the attention we are getting on the PT era. I know the movies weren’t the best. Though, I love ROTS. The novel is better, but that single movie is on my top five list. But really, the PT had such a cool world and aesthetic.
It made the galaxy seem so much bigger and really Coruscant and Mustafar, I can see as planets existing within the SWs universe, alongside Hoth, Dagobah etc. So yeah, I am really excited to pick this game up. I didn’t pick up the first new Battlefront and hopefully this game will be a big improvement. 🙂
