Star Wars Stunt Performer Olivia Jackson Recovering after Amputation of Arm
Olivia Jackson, who performed stunts for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, was badly injured last September while filming the newest Resident Evil movie. Jackson, who has also appeared in films such as Mad Max: Fury Road and Guardians of the Galaxy, was filming a motorcycle stunt when a presumed technical glitch failed to move a camera arm out of her path resulting in serious injury. At the time, she was placed in an induced coma due to head injuries and a punctured lung in addition to the injuries to her face and arm.
Jackson, who is married to fellow stuntman David Grant, who also performed in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, spent two weeks in the coma and has been slowly recovering since last September, but the accident left her arm paralyzed. She told The Sun in December
“My left arm is paralyzed and is going to have to be amputated. My facial scarring is horrible and I wish I had my old face. But I’m truly grateful to be alive.”
Earlier this week, Jackson revealed via her Instagram account that she had finally underwent the procedure.
Stunt performers are quite often the forgotten heroes of films. Especially in the current climate of action blockbusters, super hero movies, and sci-fi epics, stunt performers are more a part of the making of films than ever. Effects and computer generated imagery can only go so far, but these men and women still go out there day after day risking their lives and bodies in order to give us the thrills we seek at the cinema. A brief look through Jackson’s Instagram is an inspiring experience as she has tracked just a small portion of her grueling recovery and rehabilitation.
Understanding the risks she has taken in order to bring us great cinematic experiences, we at SWNN want to thank Olivia Jackson for her contributions to the world of film and wish her as speedy and full a recovery as is possible. We look forward to Jackson’s return and want to wish the best of luck for any future projects.
Her injury was some truly terrible news last September. I’m happy she is on her way to recovery and keeping a positive outlook. All the blessings to her and her family! Hope she comes out stronger than before.
Amazing that she can have such a positive attitude. Honestly, I am not sure I would be strong enough to do that in that situation.
When life deals you such a cruel curve ball, it really puts things into perspective. Wish this brave lady a speedy recovery.
All the pain, yet the cheerfulness remains. This demonstrates how Human spirit can help surpass any obstacle in your path.
Who ever is publishing the new Resident Evil movie (Sony?) better pay for the amputation and other medical procedures she will need.
that is why (among other reasons) movies have insurance
They will be paying for a lot more than that.
I envy this woman’s courage
Well, on the brightside, at least she’s in the profession that actively use one armed people. Her resume and connections can still get her plenty of work in horror and action films. I’m sure Star Wars will need a limb lopped off soon.
wow what a strong individual, I would never be that optimistic
A Resident Evil movie isn’t worth 10 bucks, let alone an arm.
Wow. She’s tough as nails. Doubt I could react that well after such trauma.
Good thing she didn’t actually lose a limb while filming a Star Wars movie. Imagine all the jokes about bionic arms.
Was she Rey’s? I guess this might work in her favor if she loses an arm in the next two.
Chloe Bruce is Daisy’s stunt double, and she’s quite the martial arts badass. Look her up on YouTube.
I remember the clip now being shown on here but didn’t recognize her in the shot above. There is a high amount of attractive female performers in the stunt industry.
Unfortunate.
I hope she was compensated IMMENSELY
Is it too soon to hope for cyborg arms? Not a droid arm, mind you. Nah, droids aren’t her style. What she needs is a badass Furiosa Arm.
I hope it’s at least not a red arm, I probably wouldn’t recognize her.
Wow… she either didn’t want to appear sad or is incredibly optimist
Wow. She’s still beautiful. When they said “extensive facial scarring,” I was expecting something a lot worst.
