The Alien Creature From the 1st Force For Change Video Makes an Appearance in Marvel’s Star Wars Issue 1.

Force For Change

Back on May 21st of 2014 JJ Abrams and co. released a video announcing the special “Force For Change” fund-raising initiative for Unicef. The video featured a practical creature/character that has a huge resemblance with a H’drachi.” Interestingly the creature also appears in Marvel Comic’s newly released Star Wars Issue #1. Find out more after the jump.

As you recall we posted an article in May about JJ’s Force For Change video that featured a set in the Abu Dhabi desert which resembled a Tatooine marketplace. Refresh you memory below:

The video also featured an alien creature we suspected to be a H’drachi.

Our friend Jason from MakingStarWars first spotted the creature in the new Marvel Comics Star Wars Issue #1: “Skywalker Strikes” (now in a comic book shop near you.) But it got us to thinking that IF this was the alien from the Force For Change video perhaps the comic book would give us a hint as to what planet he was on. After all, we know that JJ and co. love to plant Easter Eggs in their work — see R2-D2 in the 2009 Star Trek reboot — so perhaps this is a subtle way of tying things together???

H'drachi

The crew here at Star Wars 7 News & The Cantina have been discussing the possibilities. Ultimately, we think it’s just an Easter Egg; a nice, little nod to the FFC video by the artist, John Cassaday. Here’s why:

* The comic book takes place between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. This certainly doesn’t rule Bob out as being able to survive until The Force Awakens, but seems to shrink the galaxy.

CYMOON 1

* The planet in question for where this particular H’drachi appears is an Imperial prison called “Weapons Factory Alpha” located on CYMOON 1 in the Corellian Industrial Cluster.

* In both cases — The Force Awakens and Issue #1 — it appears the character is just background. So, even if it is the same alien, it will probably never be known for sure.

Although this does NOT seem to be the same creature, and most likely just an Easter Egg, you can make him if you want to . . . unless he dies in which case not so much. That wraps up the mystery. But on a side note our very own Viral Hide wanted me to make sure to pass along his thoughts on Issue #1:

“Read the whole thing. It’s absolutely brilliant. I am not a comic book guy, but I loved this. Can’t wait for the next one. Best five dollars I’ve spent (only digital option at my location)!”

And let’s remember that this is the first CANON comic book of the new era, so we’re introduced to new concepts such as “Weapons Factory Alpha,” CYMOON 1, and the Corellian Industrial Cluster which are all fair game for Episode VII and beyond!

I found the last page of this issue to be interesting and wise.
As for the alien, I too think it’s an Easter egg and the comic is good, especially the art.

Glad to hear. The closest I can pick one up is an hour away so haven’t gotten mine yet. Our local bookstore’s magazine/comic carrier cannot get Marvel 🙁

Technically it would be the Darth Maul comic from TCW.

I agree with Jason. I don’t think that’s necessarily the same character, unless the artist took some liberty with the appearance. Yes, it’s similar….same head dress….color of skin…beard….maybe thes eyes….but the snout seems longer and makes it look more like a camel in the comic, than it looks in the video. I count myself in the “not sure” category, on this one.

I was going to get this issue on Google Play (like I do with the walking dead issues which are released on the same day as the physical copies), but unfortunately it’s nowhere to be found. Maybe it’ll go digital later. Looks like I’m off to the comic shop!

Does anyone know if they’re likely to combine these comics into a series of graphic novels? In a similar way that DC do with their new 52. I’d probably prefer to buy them that way, then as individual comics.

I see it now…Episode 7 reveals this creature as the last remaining being of a long-extinct species….visually contradicts what’s in the comic….new canon is shot to shit the day after EP7 releases.

Does anyone know if these comics are going to be released outside the USA?

You can get them digitally from Marvel.com

How is that contradicting….The comic takes place 30 some years before Force Awakens…It could have gotten extincted in that time.

Man, I got so used to reading the longer trade paperbacks from Dark Horse I was surprised to read such a short Star Wars #1 from Marvel. Can’t wait for the subsequent issues!
