Updated With The Winners! SWNN’s 4th Birthday: Help Us Improve “Star Wars News Net” And Win 1 of 10 Awesome Prizes.

prizes

October 30th is a day that all but the newest of Star Wars fans will have permanently ingrained in their minds. It was on this day just 4 short years ago that it was announced that Disney would be purchasing Lucasfilm and kicking off a new era of unprecedented Star Wars output. But to those of us here at SWNN it has additional meaning. It is our birthday.

That’s right! SWNN was born the same day that the mouse house stuck its toe into the waters of the Galaxy far, far, away. We’ve come a long way in those four years. We started as the small, off the map, Star Wars 7 News. A site that was dedicated to bringing our readers all the news that could be found around the 7th episode in the Star Wars saga.

Since that special day we have grown into a community of thousands of fans all looking to read, consume, and discuss all things Star Wars. So, to show you just how much we appreciate the community that has joined us in the last four years, for our birthday we will be turning the attention back to you, the readers.

SWNN Logo Transparent

Of course we have some giveaways for a few lucky readers. But we’ll also be turning to you for some discussion about what you’d like to see from SWNN as we move deeper into the new era of Star Wars. What sort of content would you like to see from the blog? What are we doing now (or have done in the past) that you’d like to see more of? What could we be doing better? What would you like to see added to The Cantina to facilitate more of those great Star Wars conversations that bring us here day in and day out?

You are the reason we exist, so we want to know what you want. You just have to sign in to the form below and have at it in the comments and let us know what you’d like to see from SWNN next and keep reading below for a brief information of the prizes that you might win. This contest is worldwide.

SWNN 4th Birthday

Here’s a brief info on the prizes that you could win. The prizes were picked by us. We’ve tried to choose the most interesting and popular items that have been (or will be) recently released.

Well, I think you guys are doing great (I say this because I have developed an addiction and visit this site many times in a day lol) So yea I guess I would have to say keep doin what you’re doin! I guess maybe some more reviews/reactions on certain things would be cool just to see what you guys thinking. But yea, thanks for an awesome Star Wars news site.

Congratulations from Russia, guys! You are one of my main sources of the Star Wars News. I even can’t say what you need to do. Maybe more articles about some little interesting facts and easter eggs. And maybe some posts about your team

    Congratulations once more!

I have enjoyed being a Cantina member this past year and I post and read almost daily. It’s a great forum for SW discussions! An improvement will be if mods were a bit more active in monitoring content. For example there are many threads which overlap as people who start threads don’t check if there is already a similar existing one – mods should monitor this and merge threads when there is already an existing thread. As to the website. There have been quite a few mistakes in reporting news – this should be avoided.

The site is great. My only suggestion may not be feasible. And it it’s related to the comments. Could there be a way for users who know they are openly discussing something that is potential spoiler to click something so that when others come upon their comment you have to knowingly click it so the comment expands or somehow becomes legible? I don’t mind certain spoilers. But I usually click articles on topics where I am okay reading about that topic – my mistake ends up going to the commentary where someone launches into an all out spoilerfest and I read something I did not want to read. My only recourse is to not participate in the discussion as it’s impossible to know when or where that comment will appear that cannot be unread…

I love this site! I stop by 3-5 times a day! Keep up the good work! I particularly enjoyed your posted diacussion a few weeks ago on the nature of the force.

1.)Perhaps you could include more posted staff roundtable discussions?

2.)Or pose questions to the comments sections that get an actual dialogue going?

I don’t visit the cantina too much, can’t comment on how that goes. Thanks for your reporting.

I like articles that focus on the music/VFX/cinematography in addition to rumors and insider information!

First, let me say I only use this and Starwars.com for SW info. I’d love to see a discussion board/forum to ask/answer questions (both queries and hypothetical) and to discuss specific media that comes out. For example, I just finished Bloodline but that obviously has been out for awhile. I have some questions and thoughts about Leia’s storyline. I’d love to see other people’s questions and be able to post mine (and maybe give my input to questions) instead of having to go back to the review that you have, which I’m guessing is somewhere. It also seems you are privy to certain outlets and people that us commoners are not, which you could use to supply answers. While I do not use other SW news sites, I’m not sure how you compare, but I would think that you have a large enough fan base that you could get some official connection to the Lucasfilm Story Group to help with answering questions. Right now my only way to get an official answer is to tweet Pablo H. and hope I get a response. (Which I have once!) You guys may even be an outlet to help reduce the number of questions he (they) must get on a daily basis.

I’ve been reading this website from day one. SWNN is my go to Star Wars news site. You guys do a bang up job! Keep up the good work! I’ve enjoyed the articles on Star Wars gaming, film news, and even news on Indiana Jones, even though it’s technically not Star Wars, that doesn’t bug me at all though.

I would like to see a little more interaction with the comments section, while I have a cantina account I’ll admit I’ve seldom used it. I’m just more interested in posting on the news articles rather than discus it in a seperate forum topic.

Thanks for all your hard work and here’s to many more years of SWNN!

Hey guys, awesome that this site is doing great! I have SWNN in my bookmarks since Star Wars 7 news! Checking it atleast a couple times a week but mostly once a day.

Thank god for the -back then- StarWars7News! It took me a long time to get used to the new name. This site has been awesome since the beginning, but there is always room for improvement!
    These are my suggestions:
    1) Weekly articles about a certain “Star Wars Portrait”. Whether it’s about a character, a planet, an item or a concept, the article of the week shall portray its significance in the Star Wars universe (movies/books/series of appearance, relation to other characters etc) and spark discussion in the comments!
    2) Interacting with the fandom by hosting (weekly) an article written from a fan, possibly from different country every week! It would be interesting to read about the impact of Star Wars in different film cultures, how it was promoted/received there etc.

    Hope you agree, but anyway…
    Keep up the good work!

Four years already? Wow! I still remember the day I discovered this site. It was the very day it was created, so, four years ago today. 🙂 Totally not ashamed to say I’ve been here since the very beginning, originally going by a different name in the comment section (I called myself Tigress). To be honest, I can’t really think of anything else you guys can do to make this site better. You’ve all done a great job with everything. Although, I wouldn’t mind a little more focus on fan-made content, at least in the Cantina. 🙂

Here’s to four (plus) more successful years for Star Wars News Net! 😀

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Congratulations on 4 great years of information and entertainment. I love this site – it keeps me updated, it’s fun to read, and the participants (both the article writers and the fans like myself) for the most part have a good nature and a good sense of humour.

If you left the site alone, I would be completely fine with that – I think it’s great.

One minor suggestion would be to display more articles on the front page. At the moment, I think we get about 7 as we scroll down before we have to click to another page. I usually check the site once a day, but occasionally I’m away for a few days. No big deal, but it would make it easier to see which articles I need to catch up on.

I guess you could also have a function that shows us articles we have NOT read – although that may be overkill.

Overall, great job, thank you for a wonderful service!

Happy Birthday SWNN! This site is a daily visit for me and the job you guys and gals are doing is just fantastic.

    Some suggestions for Improvements:
    1) ratings scale for reviews. Maybe do a 5 point scale. So you get a 4/5 tie fighters or x-wings/light sabers etc

    2) have an upcoming stuff tab. Where you can see and track when certain products and films are coming out, and maybe we links of where to purchase said stuff. Could be a good way to get partnerships with the site and generate a little revenue.

    3) Try and highlight the benefits of the cantina vs just regular comments. Commenting seems to be way easier to track and see who replies. I do understand animus commenting is always desired. Maybe have nightly open threads so that people can comment about whatever and it will help keep other threads on topic.

I’ve been checking this site for about one year and a half, I think. I think you’re doing a great job. I really like the minimalist layout with the news on the top of each other, it’s very satisfying to browse. But IMO, the best part about this website, the one thing that sets it apart from the others, is this comment section under every article. I love to read other people’s opinion and talk with other SW fans from time to time, when something interesting concerning the new movies has been disclosed, for example, but I find forums too time-consuming. This is a perfect compromise. Keep up the good job!

I think this site’s pretty decent. One thing you guys could do would be to do more investigative stories and uncovering info on your own instead of mostly just using second-hand info.

Also, some of the articles can sound pretty cheesy with their tone, cliches, and over-enthusiasm, though that mostly seems to be particular writers. And then there are particular writers that are just spectacular, no exaggeration.

Overall, though, thanks for the amount of articles written and the wide range of topics covered. I’ve been reading nearly every article for about two years now, and will probably continue to. An enjoyable pastime.

I really like your site for all your news and updates, perhaps another way to branch out would be regular updates on the lore and canon or maybe commentaries on certain aspects of the Star Wars universe that I’m sure fans would like to know more about. Given the we’re always getting new bits of information from the books, shows and films, it’ll be nice to see articles that deal with individual topics such as the rise of the Sith etc to show how far the Star Wars universe has come, other than that, keep up the good work 🙂

Just wanted to say thank you so much for this site! I’ve been a big fan from the beginning when you were starwars7news. I check here multiple times every day. ( its a bit of an addiction!) I love the resistance podcast! I usually listen on my way home from work. It really makes an otherwise stressful ride home into a joy. I really enjoyed the podcasts leading up to episode 7 last year and while I’m excited for rogue one, I’m really looking forward to Episode 8 and hearing what you guys have to say about it. I like how you have included listeners questions on the show. Please include more of that. It might be interesting to have a live show where you can take on questions from listeners.

Also, I wanted to commend you on how you have improved to look of this site over the years. Everything is much more smooth and more intuitive in function. Also, it looks a lot better on mobile devices than it had early on and loads more quickly too. Someone mentioned an app, I think that would be a great idea. I would buy it. I really liked the round-table discussion on the force. It would be great to see more discussion-format posts in which the writers of SWNN discuss and debate a variety of topics. I also really enjoy reading editorials such as the recent “Why the Han Solo Move Will (Probably) Be Fine.” More of those would be great, especially during times when there isn’t a whole lot of news going on. Of course, that shouldn’t be an issue for you guys at the moment as Rogue One will be released in 45 days!

Love the site! I’ve been using it for about 2 years now. I’d like to see more editorials that discusses upcoming projects, and what projects we would like to have as upcoming in the future. Then maybe a poll of these wanted projects and a discussion about why we chose what we chose and what else we would like to see Disney do in the future, in the comments. For example, I’m pretty sure we would all like to see an Old Republic project announced by Disney, but why? What is it each of us wants out of it? The poll could be used to measure the fans’ desires about Disney’s motivation going forward.

I like going on this site for 2 reasons:
    1) Getting new info not only about the movies but all of star wars. Being a full all canon star wars fan I love being informed about the upcoming stuff.

    2) Discussion in comments. Although sometimes this goes beyond the acceptable, I like tha various discussions the comment section offers.

I love this SWNN. I visit it a couple of times a day. I’m a big fan of the Cantina and I can’t really critique it much. In regards to SWNN expansion – we have a busy few years ahead as Star Wars fans; so maybe expanding SWNN into YouTube and creating a vlog of some sort might be good.
Keep up the good work everyone!

There really isn’t too much more you can do with the site to make it better. But, I would like to see some interviews with some of the voice actors from Rebels and actors from the movies. Even if you could interview someone from the Story Group or some from the crew would be really cool. The authors of the books are out there too. I would think others would be on board with this, also.

Thanks again for all you do!!!!

Using the forum on an iPad is virtually actually a worse experance than the website on an iPad. It’s a free site so I will stop there.

I know this is probably extremely vague, but i would love to see some more content on Star Wars props and stuff. Like, maybe some articles exploring the mandalorian mercs and their helmet builds, or the lightsaber community, etc.

Maybe a weekly or monthly article delving in to specific sub-cultures of Star Wars, or maybe even reviews of outside of the normal books/tv/movies.

I don’t know, i am just jonesing for an hour documentary on the lightsaber/blasers/armor building of TFA lol…. which we got that….

I will be building my second lightsaber this month, so i am totally interested in such things 😛

In short….. more original content is what i guess i’m getting at. Happy Birthday!

I always enjoy the site and check it out every day, so keep up the good work! Suggestions to make it better:
    – how about more interviews with Star Wars actors or behind the scenes talents?
    – How about toy reviews for those of us who are SW collectors? You publish book and comic reviews; why not toys?
    – During production of TFA, it seems like you published more potential spoiler material/ production rumors than you have with Rogue One or SW VIII. I enjoy the rumor mill and speculation and wouldn’t mind seeing more of that. Or are the new productions more secure than TFA production was?
    – more articles about the entire SW world (OT, prequels, Clone Wars, Rebels, etc.)
Overall, keep up the good work. Great site!
