Still not a big fan of some of the weapons but I guess they will work in the movie. Maybe a different direction with clean and sterile designs is a nice detour from the used and dusty look of most SW designs. I am completely happy with Snokes look. The puppet could redeem the artificial looking CGI from TFA. Which would mean that Snoke looked artificial because he was a holograph and not a “bad” effect.

Hating those guards weapons….look like they came from a Final Fantasy game…gigantic blades on a spear…, give them a gigantic laser blade on a laser spear

I would hope they have some kind of electrical arc over the blade, the detail on the blade seem to hint as such. If not….

yeah, I do wish they went with something closer to the imperial knights from the old Star Wars: Legacy or even the Imperial Shadow Guards from TFA with their saber-staffs. Even in legends continuity I never was a fan of the whole vibroblade blocking lightsabers…too visually dissonent to me, but maybe thats what they are going for. Either that or they are just idiots with ceremonial weapons that can be easily cut to pieces lol

I like the design of the guards but I don’t like the weapons. I feel like their designs would look great with the Magnaguard staffs from the prequels. Although it does seem that the one with a sword could possibly adopted that technology; she shape resembles the glass ends of the Magna Guards staffs.

See the sheath? His lightsaber was damaged during the Knights of Ren attack of the Academy and so it stays on permanently now. He had to build a lightsaber-proof sheath to hold it. Now he draws it like a real sword.

Looks like they are for either a poster or magazine cover from the way they are posing. These look awesome! Love the look on luke, and even though I wasn’t big on the pratorian guard’s design, the like action poses look MUCH better as many predicted. The weirdest one is snoke for me. The flesh color pallet makes me see him as much less alien- someone needs to tell that guy to fix the color correction on his giant hologram TV

If you’re going to be so close-minded about the character of Luke Skywaker and unwilling to even see the movie before you make a definitive assessment of it, I hope you are disappointed.

The character of Luke Skywalker is revered by multiple generations worldwide — and I will accept NOTHING but a heroic representation of Luke — anything less is an ASSAULT on Luke’s character and Legacy. I am “open minded” about new characters such as Rey, Finn, and Kylo — but have ZERO patience for any “Let’s get weird” moments with Luke. ZERO.

Luke Skywalker is not a flawless, superhuman, godlike character. Suggesting that Luke cannot possibly be affected in any way by the tragedy that destroyed his attempt to rebuild the Jedi Order at the hands of his own nephew, is putting Luke in a box that makes him one-dimensional and unrelatable. We connect with Luke as the central protagonist of Star Wars because we relate to him and he is likable. If we elevate him to superhero status in which he can never get discouraged or lose faith and need a person like Rey to help him realize his worth and purpose again after the loss of the new academy, we force him to be a very boring and unrealistic character.

I too am very worried about how Luke is going to end up being portrayed in this next film. Not that it matters in the end, but I don’t think it’s completely Rian’s fault. He was sort of painted into a corner when JJ Abrams chose to have Luke sit out the entire movie on his hermit island, which by itself is uncharacteristic of Luke. So Rian has to somehow explain all of that. My guess is the film will start with Luke being depressed and cynical because of what happened to his New Order, but that as the film progresses the hero we know and love will start to re-emerge. But we’ll have to wait and see. I will be the first in line with my torch in hand at the anti-Rian Johnson mob if he ends up disgracing one of the most beloved cinema heroes of all time.

Snoke has to be Anakin’s burned body possessed by some force ghost or something.

    • July 28, 2017 at 2:10 am
      Permalink

But you know that it’s not how the burned body looks like? After such funeral there’s only ash and bones. Hardly anything to be possessed.

      • July 28, 2017 at 2:24 am
        Permalink

If his body was possessed before hand by for example, Palpatine, couldn’t he use the force to at least partially preserve himself?

That’s literally has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

      • July 28, 2017 at 8:05 am
        Permalink

It’s actually not a dumb theory. Why did Palpatine cared about Anakin so much that he even went to recover his burnt remainings? Anaking was created by the force, but most likely he was created by either Palpatine or Plagueis. Yeah, I’m bringing the Plagueis theory again, but it makes sense. I suspect that they created Anakin to be extremely strong with the force, because what Plagueis did was transfer his soul to another body when he was young, and then Palpatine killed Plagueis (or so he tought) so it could be him the one that transfered bodies. That’s why later Palpatine was interested in Luke, and could be why Snoke has interest in Kylo, as both Luke and him are descendants of Anakin.
It could be that Plagueis survived, and took control of Anakin’s burned body, waiting for Kylo to be more powerful to take his body.

          Plagueis is so dead though.

“He could save OTHERS but not himself.”

Nowhere is his power described as keeping himself alive. Watch the scene again.

Doesn’t mean it is a lie, either.

Also, the intent was just to seduce Anakin. he is dead. DEAD. DEAD.

Yeah. I mean, it’s an unlikely theory. But I don’t think it’s stupid.

My theory is that it is the Dark Side from Anakin who crawled out of his body in ROTJ and is looking for a new host. He created the Knights of Ren to find a suitable body. So far, he is interested in Kylo Ren, but may be interested in Rey, as soon as he sees what she can do.

My Snoke theory is that Anakin wasn’t the first being to be created by the Midichlorians. If he was created artificially by Plaguis or Palpatine for example then what if they didn’t get it right the first time ? What if there was a child born from the Force that was mutated in some way. Hidden in the shadows but powerful none the less.

Easily the most interesting thing in these pics is the staff Luke is carrying. Could it be like Yoda’s Gimer Stick symbolizing the ancient wisdom of the Jedi? Yoda received a Gimer staff (note it’s “staff” not “Stick”) from the Wookies prior to the Battle of Kashyyyk which he left behind after order 66 was initiated. Could Luke have visited the Wookies prior to his exile and acquired the staff meant for Yoda all those years earlier? This basically means Luke has transcended the need for a light saber, prepare for some force badassery. I really like the idea of Luke being so powerful he doesn’t need a saber.

I want to say that Snoke might be Ezra because the piercing blue eyes and nose kind of match up.

But the more I look at Snoke, the more I think he looks too old to be Ezra (unless he’s had a very very tough time [clearly, judging by the f**ked up face] since Rebels concludes).

I think Ezra is going to have a big role to play when Rebels finishes up… I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

I agree! the Poncho outfit looks like it allows for more mobility/action. Wow, so many Snoke comments. Does anyone actually care? I honestly (based on what we’ve seen so far) think Snoke is a really generic, uninteresting, and unnecessary character. He had ZERO impact on screen in TFA, and even Andy Serkis couldn’t seem to find anything interesting or unique to do with the character. In all honesty I’m constantly forgetting the character even exists, and that can’t be a good thing if they’re trying to set him up as an important antagonist/mastermind. I feel like there’s enough to explore with Kylo and Rey, and hello, LUKE SKYWALKER, that they don’t need to cram the story with yet another chess piece.

“He had ZERO impact on screen in TFA”

Much like the Emperor in ESB. Don’t judge a Star Wars villain until the end of the trilogy, that’s my sentiment.

      • July 30, 2017 at 2:45 am
        Permalink

The Emperor in ESB was at least creepy, and at the time original. Snoke looked just like Gollum and Nosferatu, and despite their attempts to make him intimidating fell flat IMO. I get your point that we haven’t see all he’s capable of yet, but I did say my opinion was based on what we’ve seen so far, and it was a bit more than just 2 lines, honestly. He had a bigger role, more dialogue, and more screen time than Palpatine in Empire for sure, and I definitely did not forget Palpatine after the film was over. Palpatine’s brief appearance also made me curious to see and know more about him, while personally I find myself not caring at all who Snoke is or where he comes from. I’m much more interested in who the Knights of Ren are and their backstory. Adding in Snoke feels unnecessary and like one too many things to have to try to follow. Also seems like he’s there just to mirror Palpatine. I think it’d be more interesting and more original to have the antagonists be a group/cult (Knights of Ren) rather than trying to emulate the Vader/Emperor relationship.

        • July 30, 2017 at 2:51 am
          Permalink

“and I definitely did not forget Palpatine after the film was over.”

Can you HONESTLY give me your impartial view on Palpatine’s first appearance with 37 years of pop culture fame to cloud your judgement? Because I’m skeptical. Regardless, you didn’t actually refute my point. You said it yourself, Snoke actually had MORE to do in TFA than Palpatine in ESB. You have some pretty clear double standards.

          • July 30, 2017 at 4:29 am
            Permalink

not sure why my OPINION seems to bother you so much. And I also don’t understand what you mean by double standards. My point was that Snoke had even MORE of an opportunity to make an impression given that he received more screen time, and yet I feel like Palpatine in his brief ESB appearance seemed like a more interesting and unique character than motion capture Snoke.
Be “skeptical” of my feelings and viewpoints all you want, I have no reason to make things up.

There are just too many grey zombie looking bad guys now a days. Voldemort, Gollum, etc. When Ian originally did it, it was original. And in Episode 3 he and Lucas had the genius to have him ham it up to keep the character feeling twisted and sinister rather than dark and brooding. Which worked very well.
