Damnit that deleted scene clip got me
This is awesome!
I fucking HATE the retailer exclusive shit. Particularly when one of the retailers has completed failed and run away from Canada now. It’ll be nice to have the film, but most of the bonus features look awfully EPK-like.
Wait. You’re Canadian?
But..Canadians are nice?
Yeah, but not, like, PURE blooded. I gots me some roots in Detroit, and have lived in Cali.
That explains it.
No it doesn’t. I’m just a prickly asshole sometimes 🙂
True.
Europe (at least France) April 16: Confirmed on Facebook
The Netherlands will also get it on April 16 (Digital on April 6).
No word from Disney Japan on the Blu-Ray yet, but they announced yesterday that TFA will be withdrawn from all theatres nationwide on March 25. They also confirmed VIII for December 15, 2017.
I just got chills watching a blu-ray release trailer…what is wrong with me? 🙂
Season Finale of Rebels and then the next week…Boom…TFA in my living room…good times.
Don’t worry. You are not alone. 🙂
Well at least let him invite you first rather than just showing up 😛
Amazon UK still saying April 18th
Does anybody know if all the bonus content will be available on the DVD on the combo pack or the DVD only package?
Nowadays, DVDs barely have all of the bonus features, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
I still don’t have blu-ray yet,so yeah, I too want to know if I can access the deleted scenes via DVD.
No commentary?
Not sure why the UK release date is nearly two weeks later – they are just asking for people to download the US version illegally because they can’t wait.
so packaging aside, which one has the most content? (bang for your buck)
Looks like the Target version. It has more content (interviews and such) whereas the others are just packaging and a trading disc, whatever that is.
I’ll be getting the Best Buy version,. I’ll just pirate the extra content or watch it when it inevitably pops up online. Hate retail exclusive stuff.
The Target version (bonus interviews with John and Diasy, and some costume & weapon featurettes.
Unfortunately the 3D release won’t happen till later in the year. The digital release is looking better and better. I don’t mind forking over cash, but I’m not stupid…
Ah, 3D schmeedee, it’s nothing but a gimmick.
My 55′ Sony Bravia begs to differ.
Sony Bravia is what I call my penis.
But seriously, it may be a gimmick but having a home theater with 3D capabilities is pretty neat.
That sucks about the 3D… very unusual for the 3D version to be sold at a different date. Double dipping tactics.
Actually… this will be a triple dip… now that UHD discs are hitting the market… I expect to see the UHD version later this year.
All UHD discs will have atmos sound tracks I think… my theater is wired up for that so I’ll probably be purchasing this film on bluray 3 times :/
Just wait. Disney will roll out an ultra-complete edition for Christmas 2016. Their double-dipping is going to make Lucas’ look like a model of restraint by comparison. You KNOW it to be true…
I don’t think the Lucas Re-releases were that bad, well I mean the special editions were terrible but at least there was real content being added @ each step. The only time I remember being annoyed was after just purchasing the THX VHS’s then the special editions came out… or something like that? Anyone remember how short of a period it was between those editions?
All I know is that I had 3x copies of the OT on VHS… one recorded from the rental tape, then the THX, then the special edition if I recall.
Just a few years IIRC
Will they at least release 3D on digital?
3D Digital? I didn’t even know that that was a thing.
VUDU has them ..but the prices are pretty high.
I think I just wet myself watching that trailer, and I’ve already seen the movie 8 times!!!
UK release date has been confirmed on Facebook, April 11th for digital download and the 18th for blu-ray/DVD
As an aside – that gun represents everything wrong with the design of TFA. God that thing both lacks any of the functional look of the OT AND manages to be lumpy and ugly as sin at the same time.
Loving that positive outlook from you, Cranky.
Real improvement -__-
so that will be the official packaging? I like the theatrical poster, but the SW tradition has always brought us a new cover for the home releases, with the classic roman number at the side.
However… who cares? I fucking want this fucking blu ray!!!!!!
Different company, different way of doing things now
we live in different times now. I remember having to wait May to November for the DVD’s to come out for the PT
Now it’s not even 4 months
And I for one love it!
Forget that – we waited literally YEARS for a retail version of Star Wars on VHS. You wanted a tape before then? You used to have to buy the RENTAL version at $200-300 a pop.
Disney Store offers the free lithographs with a pre-order as an exclusive as well. Thinking about getting it there for that. Not sure yet.
Finally get to see Ben going on his family’s old ship
I’m not surprised that Ben says “Han Solo” in that deleted scene… the name “Han Solo” is uttered in full no less than thirteen times during The Force Awakens (not to mention plenty more “Han” or “Solo” references). It was like product placement, for the Han Solo standalone film.
Interesting though that Ben never says “Leia Organa”
Isn’t that “Han Solo” taken from the shot on Starkiller which is in the film?
No I’m pretty sure it is on the Falcon. It’s the deleted scene of Kylo Ren walking on the falcon.
No, but listen to the read – I mean I think they just looped in Driver’s read from when Kylo senses his father has arrived.
Maybe, but I doubt it. I think he just says it in the same sort of tone each time.
The one in this trailer seemed more foreboding and dark to me. Then again, I don’t know why he would just randomly say his Dad’s name when he walked into his ship.
Saying the name of a major character in a movie is product placement now? Okay then.
No, but give me one other example in a Star Wars movie where a character’s full name is said 13 times. It seemed really weird to me, so during my fourth viewing, I kept a count out of curiosity. 13 times we hear the full name “Han Solo”, and a further 18 times we hear “Han” or “Solo” separately. Doesn’t that seem like a lot to you?
It was as if the filmmakers were pointing out “hey kids, this is Han Solo!” The only conclusion I can come to is that they are trying to raise awareness of the character, with an eye on the standalone film.
Ha Ha! youse people in the U.K. have to wait longer!
Star Wars: The Blu-ray Hype Awakens
Snark is going to be so mad.
That deleted scene on the Falcon is filmed at an angle.
I can sense his anger building already.
Good times.
Maybe the other deleted scene is that Ben had just been out celebrating REALLY hard after they fired the Starkiller, and the angle represents just how wasted he is there. A Death Star sized hangover would also have the advantage of adequately explaining how he not just lost, but got completely pwned by a half-starved scavenger with no combat training.
Or (seriously) it might be to show that the Falcon landed at an angle. I still don’t like it though.
It’s an odd stylistic choice for SW, to be sure, but so were the crazy, hand-held zooms on Geonosis. You know, given I wasn’t blown away by the shot composition that ended up in the final film, I’d be happy to see some interesting choices, if only in the deleted stuff.
TTB but that half starved scavanger had fought to protect herself her entire life, which is shown when she is compeltly holding her own against the thugs on Jakku. The staff as a weapon does seem to be similar to a lightsaber so it’s not compeltly foreign to her. Also clearly the movie tried to reneforce how powerful the bowcaster was as a weapon. It made regular men go flying off when hit by it so it was a really nasty wound that Kylo Ren had sustained. If you read the novilization of the film, you would know that Kylo was emotionally conflicted by the death and murder of his father. He thought he would be made stronger by the act but he felt weak and alone. Combine all those factors together then it makes sense that he could lose to someone who clearly had Jedi training in the past as a child (this assumption isn’t canon…yet!). Re-watch the movie when it comes out on Blu-Ray, it might change you mind. I know it did for me after I saw the film multiple times. The opposite effect happened when I saw TPM as a 12 year old boy in 1999.
That tired conversation again?
There’s ample evidence in the film she is capable of fighting with a melee weapon. Just sayin’.
Ben was shot in the gut by an explosive bowcaster. You know, the one that killed 3 storm troopers at the same? That one.
What about the inclusion of all the trailers?
That’s what YouTube is for.

Yes, but I’d rather have them on physical disc in full HD where the quality isn’t compromised. On all these releases the trailers are included.
I agree.
yummy
I like the Best Buy one the best though I wish they would not have been lazy enough to recycle the same exact interior from the soundtrack album. I also wish they would have gone with something that fit in with the design of the saga releases but I guess those will be released again to match this one.
Just posted in the forum. The total runtime of the extras is just under 1hr 58min.
How’s that possible? The “full-length documentary” alone should be 2 hours!
I know. Typical bloody Disney.
Hi Peeps,
I got an email this morning from Amazon UK on my pre order of the blu-ray for TFA.
Estimated arrival date: 18th April 2016
Hope that helps!
