‘Andor’ Season 2 Wraps Filming, Diego Luna Confirms

Diego Luna took to Instagram today to confirm that Andor season 2 has now wrapped filming, a year and three months after they started, back in November 2022.

Luna wrote the following emotional message on the post:

“Today is the last day of filming Andor. I could not be more thankful to the entire crew for this amazing experience and the years of hard work.

More than 700 people have worked on this production, and it is impossible to say goodbye and thank you to everyone individually, which is why I write here. THANK YOU for the love and the wonderful experience.”

The show was forced to stop filming back in mid-July 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. At that time, they’d been without the captain of the ship, showrunner Tony Gilroy, for two months. Gilroy was forced to step down because of the WGA strike that was called in early May. By the time they were forced to stop, they had around 4-6 weeks left of filming. It’s unknown at which point they resumed shooting after the strikes were settled, but images of snowtroopers at Pinewood studios leaked to social media in late November.

Luna told Variety a few weeks ago at the Emmys that he had seven days left of filming. That could be interpreted in many different ways, though. Maybe he had seven days left as an actor, but the show kept shooting after he’d wrapped and he was still on set as the executive producer. Or maybe those seven days didn’t include relocating to a new place and they’ve been setting up shop for a couple of weeks. Whatever the case may be, we now will have to wait at least a year to see the final product on our TVs.

Luthen Rael in Andor

The entire cast of Andor is coming back for the second season, including Andy Serkis as Kino Loy; in fact, there have been no reports about new actors joining the ensemble. (This is an interesting detail for a show that is so open about who is working on it.) The new season is losing Alex Ferns as Linus Mosk, though. The writers are also all back, with the addition of Tom Bissell, who wrote a three-episode arc for the new season. Ariel Kleiman (six episodes), Janus Metz (three episodes), and Alonso Ruizpalacios (three episodes) are the directors of the new season.

Stellan Skarsgård, who is reprising his role as Luthen Rael, recently hyped up the writing of the show and how the team was able to put a satisfying end to the two-season story:

“I’m satisfied where it goes, yeah. It’s such good writing and it’s Tony Gilroy, I really like to say his lines.”

Andor season 2 was initially targeting an August 2024 release date but had to be pushed out of the 2024 schedule because of the delays caused by the strikes. It’s currently the only live-action Star Wars title set to release in 2025.
