‘Andor’ Season 2 Adds ‘Gears 5’ Scribe Tom Bissell To Write Three Episodes

With the first season of Andor now streaming on Disney Plus, our anxious eyes are now turning to what’s ahead. In November, the cast and crew are returning to film the second and final season of the series, which has been in pre-production for a few months. Most recently, Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy appeared on The Playlist Podcast and, while discussing the state of the second season, confirmed a new writer on the team.

In a previous interview with The Playlist, Gilroy confirmed all writers from the first season would be returning. That piece of information has now been updated, with the inclusion of Tom Bissell. Specifically, here’s Gilroy’s quote (hat tip to Cinelinx for noticing this first):

“Everybody’s coming back, and we brought in another writer, Tom Bissell…who did a block for us now.”

Bissell doesn’t have a lot of experience in film or television, as most of his writing credits are from video games such as Battlefield: Hardline and Gears 5, though he did create and write one episode of Apple TV Plus’ The Mosquito Coast, as well as the novel The Disaster Artist was based on.

A “block” means a group of three episodes, which is essentially the structure season 2 will follow — with each block covering one year of the four-year period between the events of season 1 and Rogue One. The writers for season 1 — who are all returning — include Tony and Dan Gilroy, Stephen Schiff, and Beau Willimon. The list of directors is currently unknown besides the fact that Ariel Kleiman will be directing three episodes.

The fourth episode of Andor season 1 is now streaming on Disney Plus. You can check out our written review of the episode here as well as The Resistance Broadcast’s live spoiler discussion on the episode here. Stay tuned for more Andor-related news as we get deeper into the season.
