‘Star Wars’ Prequels Celebrate Their 25-Year Anniversary In Empire Magazine’s New Covers

After teasing major Star Wars news yesterday, Empire Magazine revealed today two new covers for their upcoming issue celebrating 25 years of the Star Wars prequels.

Check out the covers below. The two covers on the left are the regular ones, while the one on the right is exclusive to subscribers:

The magazine is also advertising interviews with the main cast, including Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson, and Samuel L Jackson. Snippets from their coverage will likely be posted on their website over the next week, leading up to the magazine hitting the stands on Thursday, Feb. 15.

The Phantom Menace turns 25 in May, which is the main reason behind this push — even if it seems a bit early. We expect a bigger push from Lucasfilm altogether over the next few weeks to celebrate the anniversary, especially as the movies have gained a new overall level of appreciation by the fanbase over the past seven years or so.

Several novels and comics tied to prequel characters have already been announced to come out this year, including John Jackson Miller’s The Living Force and Steven Barnes’s The Glass Abyss. The new Mace Windu comic is also off to a great start, according to Jay Goodearl’s review for Star Wars News Net.

We also have a new season of Tales of the Jedi, and though that will likely be focused on prequel-era characters, it’s unlikely it was meant to be another item celebrating 25 years of The Phantom Menace. The main course of the year, though, is obviously Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte, the first live-action story set before Episode I. Again, this was probably not intended to be released on the anniversary of the film, but it all works out in the end.

Coincidentally, our team discussed Revenge of the Sith this week on our episode of SWNN Live!, which you can check out below:

Stay tuned for any exciting nuggets of information that the cast of the Star Wars prequels tells Empire Magazine.
