Breaking Down Eight Types of Enemies in ‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’

As part of a visit to the Respawn headquarters (the studio that developed the upcoming video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor), IGN‘s Mitchell Saltzman had the chance to speak to design director Jason de Heras and production director Kasumi Shishido to shed some light on some of the adversaries that Cal Kestis will be facing off in the sequel.

Here is the list of eight of the enemies in the game that IGN was able to provide:

  • B1 droids: these will be the cannon fodder of the planet Koboh, weak in isolation but usually found inside a larger group that can present a mild threat thanks to their long range and their ability to shoot at Cal while being off-screen. The feature the game developers are the proudest of? Their banter, which is a step up from the first game.
  • B2 droids: these are a bit harder to get rid of, and are especially dangerous when they come in several at a time. But once you dominate the in-betweens of their melee attacks, you will have an easier time getting through them.
  • BX droids: these are mid-level enemies that are highly elusive and can block Cal’s attacks. Their Vibro Swords are also highly effective against Jedi warriors.
  • Droideka, a.k.a. destroyer droids: we met these gentledroids during the prequels, and, according to the team, they will be directly translated into the game, bubble shield included.
  • IG-100 Magna Guard: General Grievous’ former bodyguards are described in the game as “superior elite” type of enemies, and will present a major melee threat to Cal Kestis.
  • Shield Troopers: conceived by the necessity of a trooper that would survive a bit longer than the Scout Trooper, these warriors use their shields to their full advantage. This method of defense is used to slow down incoming attacks, thus making the enemies (i.e. Cal) vulnerable to their allies’ offensive. A hint? Take their shield away from them, though the game might not necessarily explain to you how to achieve that.
  • DT Sentry Droid: these are Jedi: Survivor‘s brute enemy, and have three different variations. One of them has a staff and a missile, another one has a hammer, and the third one has a blaster. Shishido teased that “the first moment you encounter them will be a real ‘oh shit’ kind of moment”. Their combat abilities are reduced when having a limb severed, but not rendered useless.
  • KX Security Droid Enforcer: a returning enemy from Fallen Order, they like to grab and choke our protagonist. Survivor‘s iteration, though, will not do any choking, as they come equipped with the weapon of the Scout Troopers. They are the brawler type, an enemy capable of blocking and countering your attacks.

For now, this is a small sample of what we can expect from the enemies in Jedi: Survivor. More details on the game are to be expected in the coming weeks, including a new video that could hit the Internet over the next few days. IGN already revealed nine minutes of gameplay earlier this week, which you can check out here.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is scheduled to be released on April 28.
