Peter Mayhew’s Wife Devastated After ‘Star Wars’ Scripts and More Are Put To Auction

Peter Mayhew’s wife, Angie Mayhew, recently opened up about the sale of Peter’s Star Wars memorabilia. Auction house Ryedale Auctioneers will sell items found in Peter Mayhew’s attic after he passed away. Some of the memorabilia items on sale include Star Wars scripts and call sheets.

Angie expressed her devastation on Twitter:

“When we moved out of this house, Peter’s movement challenges made it impossible for him to get into the attic to get the rest of these memories,” Angie wrote. “It really breaks my heart to see our belongings auctioned off like this by [auction house founder] Angus Ashworth and Ryedale Auctioneers”. “It was one of Peter’s and my biggest regrets that we had to leave these items behind”, Angie added. “His knees and joints had gotten to be so painful that he was no longer able to go into the attic to get them.”

Angie updated fans using the Peter Mayhew Foundation Twitter account, confirming that she had “communicated our desire that Peter’s items be returned to the Mayhew family.” The items were found in the old Mayhew house after the new occupants decided to look through the attic. They discovered quite a few things from Peter’s career as Chewbacca, such as signed photographs and scrapbooks (via The Gazette Herald).

Peter Mayhew was deeply beloved by the Star Wars fandom. He passed away in May 2019. Peter appeared as Chewbacca in some of the biggest Star Wars films: A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Return of the Jedi (1983), Revenge Of The Sith (2005), and The Force Awakens (2015).
