‘Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures’ Casts Jamaal Avery Jr. and Emma Berman

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures has cast two of its leads.

While most of Lucasfilm’s major announcements came at the studio showcase panel that they shared with Marvel Studios and Twentieth Century Studios, Disney D23 has other panels to announce content. Deadline reports that, as a part of the subsequent panel focused on television offerings for Disney Plus, Disney Channel, and Disney Junior, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures is moving forward with two of its leads. The show will air on both Disney Junior and Disney Plus, and is executive produced by James Waugh, Jacqui Lopez, and Josh Rimes.

The first actor is Jamaal Avery Jr. — best known for an appearance on the ABC television series Abbott Elementary — and the second is Emma Berman — best known for voicing Giulia Marcovaldo in Pixar’s Luca. The series is set during time of the High Republic, which is set hundreds of years before the events of the Skywalker Saga and represents an era where the Galactic Republic was at its cultural zenith. Avery’s character is Kai Brightstar, and idealistic young Jedi who hopes that he can follow in Jedi Master Yoda’s footsteps, and Berman’s character is Nash Durango, a pilot with aspirations to explore the galaxy. Together with a few allies, they will learn valuable lessons about what it truly means to be a good person in a sprawling galaxy filled with danger and adventure.

The first promotional image for the series, showcasing several of the characters, including Kai, Nash, and Yoda himself, can be seen below:

The official synopsis for the series is as follows:

“The first full-length animated Star Wars series created for preschoolers, early grade schoolers, and their families, these original stories will follow Younglings as they are swept off into adventures, and start their journeys on the path to becoming Jedi Knights, learning valuable skills for our galaxy and the galaxy far, far away. The Jedi-in-training will tackle topics of compassion, self-discipline, teamwork, patience, and friendship.”

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures will arrive in spring 2023.
