‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch’ Confirms January 4 Release Date

During their presentation at D23, Lucasfilm confirmed that The Bad Batch season 2 will be released on Disney Plus on January 4 with a two-episode premiere. The new season will run for 16 episodes, released weekly starting with the third one on January 11 — this means that it will be airing on Disney Plus every Wednesday until April 12. This is the week after Star Wars Celebration in London, which could signal they will be airing the finale during the convention. No official announcement has been made about that though.

Our first look at the new season came during Star Wars Celebration in May, which confirmed the appearance of the Emperor and the return of the beloved Gungi, the Wookiee Jedi from season 5 of The Clone Wars. In that trailer, it was said that season 2 would come out during the fall, and a Disney Plus banner later stated the chosen day would be September 28. That is no longer the case, of course, though we have no official explanation yet.

Lucasfilm could be using The Bad Batch to bridge the gap between the release of two live-action series — Andor season 1 will end its 12-episode run in mid-November, and The Mandalorian season 3 is, as far as we know, coming out in February 2023.

Meanwhile, in other animation news, Tales of the Jedi released a trailer at D23 and confirmed it will come out on October 26.
