Kristian Harloff Interviews Dave Filoni Ahead of Star Wars: Rebels Finale!

After having sung his praises for some time and proclaiming him the “heir apparent” to George Lucas as far as Star Wars storytelling goes, our friend Collider’s Kristian Harloff finally got the chance to sit down with Dave Filoni for an exclusive interview with the creator of the beloved animated series Star Wars: Rebels.

In the interview, Filoni delves into the mystery of the Jedi Temple from last week’s fantastic episodes and addresses the possibility of directing a future live-action Star Wars film. Check it out:

Apparently Rebels ends on some kind of cliffhanger so they probably have plans for the next series.

I want Dave Filoni to write a new Star Wars movie.

He definitely had the benefit of time. I say that in defense of the debatable decisions the current movies have made. They have a very tight time table to delivery the story. Filoni has the option to have a rough outline… and come up with a solution over the years. As he himself admitted. The original ideas for the Jedi temple were rather lackluster and vague. Luckily he got to have the time to really hone in on what he wanted. Thus we got a really great concept.

While the movie guys… they get a few months with movie filming right around the corner. Then on top of that they often either scrap or change a lot of the outline from before. Each freaking movie!

In other words. Time. I wish they all had more time. I feel Star Wars deserves the time to really bang out a top notch story. I hope Disney slows down and lets them get that time.

That’s why lucas film must have a guy like him, and I mean him, as creative director in all Star Wars projects, this guy should be involved in every star wars project, at least movies and tv, just like George Lucas would do.

I find a little out of place that some guy that knows a little about star wars (compared to the people workin inside licasfilm) come an make a movie, instead of a guy who knows almost everything about star wars, the perfect combination should be Filoni working together with the director if not him directing. just like in empire were Irving and George, or any from I to VI, George had been always there, this new movies needs someone like him to be there all the time directing or supervising. just “binding the galaxy together”.

    Spoiler!

Serious! Spoiler! Don’t read unless you want a spoiler.

Ahsoka is some kind of space wizard. Sith? Obviously not. Jedi? I’m thinking not, she left that order. Perhaps she’s a Mortis. That’s as good a name as any. Mortis Master Tano.

Give me my goddamn Mortis Master Tano action figure, Hasbro! (who am I kidding, Funko will have this out by next week)

So going through hyperspace with your ships windows open shouldn’t have any ill effects right?

I can get a pass for Hera and the rest of the regular Rebels but I don’t know if I buy the just off screen-ism that is Ahsoka. Did you know THIS super duper important character that totally could have helped was left alive during the OT. It’s such a dangerous game to have everyone shoehorned into a time period where we just didn’t see them. Yeah yeah the galaxy is big but saying “just off screen” all this cool stuff happened it just really disappointing. That being said I’m glad Feloni got to finish telling his story but I just don’t know if I buy that it all fits.

This all seems very odd. Anyone else pick up on it? It a certain member of the media calls for your boss to step aside and have you take her place, are you going to sit down a few days later for a cozy chit chat with the guy who’s championing that notion as if there isn’t this awkward elephant in the room? Wouldn’t Filoni want to be classy and say something to the effect of “Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I’m a professional and I must acknowledge the respect I have for the current President of Lucasfilm, especially considering that she was hand-picked by my own mentor”? Nope. No damage control whatsoever on his end — I find that very interesting.

    Something’s up at Lucasfilm.
