Star Wars: Forces of Destiny Episode 3 – Ewok Escape Released

The third episode of Star Wars: Forces of Destiny titled Ewok Escape was released on Disney’s YouTube channel. In it we find out what happened to Leia and Wicket on a way to Ewok village on Endor.

The two new friends join forces to save two Ewoks from the Imperial stormtroopers. And the question of Leia’s white dress in The Return of the Jedi is answered.

You have to wonder though what happened to the original owner of that dress. 🙂

Enjoy the episode:

I like the idea of Forces of Destiny and I don’t usually have a problem with Flash animation. But my god the character designs are just super generic.

The designs look like they belong in some sort of cheap Flash game advertised on any number of sites.

I like to imagine this animation style is similar to the style of the Boba Fett short from the Star Wars Holiday Special. Which was, of course, the coolest (the only cool) thing in that.

That had some charm to it, though.

This just feels like lazy, generic product to sell toys. Buuuut, it’s not intended for me anyway, sooo…

Wasn’t Boba’s animated short in that holiday special meant to sell Kenner’s upcoming Boba Fett figures and doll?

The movies, TV shows, everything, it’s all to sell toys. I’m just saying that this particular ad was lazy, and generic.

Sadly they will never spend time doing wonderfully hand animated piece like that again.
It’s sad to see the SW brand ( inevitably ) cheapened with poor quality things like this. But we’ve seen it also with the recent SW comics, a number of which are just ghastly.

I agree. This is Disney for crying out loud!
This quasi-2d digital animation is sub-par. I would love something done in the traditional style…the true Disney style. Star Wars and true Disney 2D animation were made for each other.

I must admit, I kept getting distracted by the terrible backgrounds. They looked very concept arty/computer generated, you could actually see the mouse/stylus strokes on the Ewok Village roofs, which totally goes against the very natural concept of Ewoks. Very jarring.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying, and thankful for, the free content we are being given, but it looks very much like fan fiction and I wouldn’t like to see the style used beyond these shorts.

In fact, as we well know they are fan fictions and fan animations ( such as the beautifully rendered anime-style X-Wing/TIE Fighter short ) that beat these official and cheap looking SW shorts.

Not as good as the previous couple, but good fun nonetheless, i really like Leia’s voice actor, is it the same woman who voiced young Leia in Rebels?

Agreed. I do like this voice actor for Leia. She captures the tough, sass that Carrie brought to the role.

Really? Huh… I didn’t care for it. I felt like her voice alternated between not trying to do an impression and doing this thoaty impression. Neither of which worked for me. Ahh gee I’m negative but I feel the whole thing could be better done.

I’m not going to lie; this was the weakest FOD episode so far. I don’t hate it as I do have a soft spot for the Ewoks. ROTJ is my favorite SWs film and while going on a bit too long, I could never come to hate these guys. They were awesome. Though, I kind of wished GL could have had Wookies. But I digress.

I did enjoying seeing Wicket and Leia. My crtique is that Leia barely did anything. I guess the intent was to showcase how capable the Ewoks were but ROTJ kind of does that. And while I enjoyed seeing how Leia got that dress at the end of ROTJ, I overall found this short a bit vapid and confusing as to where it fits in the canon. At least, Rey’s shorts you could believably put them in during TFA.

Overall, this to me is the weakest episode. And I hope they get better from here.

    Score: 60%

Agreed, it is by far the weakest episode so far, although it wasn’t particularly bad per se, it was just quite bland, i’m hoping the next one is as good as the Rey/BB-8 episodes.

No lie, I literally just got banned form the Degrassi wiki for “instigating” when all I did was complain about a character’s casual sexism (it’s a long story) and then defend myself when the PC hordes descended onto me. Why must the world be so frustrating?

Similar thing happened to me. I was arguing with an owner of a particular Minecraft server, (fairly popular one as well.) who was trying to say that pedophilia was a sexual preference. Obviously I disagreed, I got IP banned. lol

To be fair, we were the originators of that particular rumor. And we still stand by it – albeit for either E8 or E9. But Ewoks aren’t a given at all, since we have yet to see a familiar alien race aside from Nien Nunb’s return.

But still, my point stands that as far as background aliens in the ST Era, we aren’t seeing anybody familiar. We almost had an Ithorian in Maz’s pub, but it turns out that that guy was a related species.

I have to admit that I like these for one reason only: they fill in gaps in the movies. The Rey episodes included some action from a gap that occurd in VII, This episode included that part we didn’t see for suspense reasons when Leia is brought to the ewoks.

I’m just curious how they are going to even make money off of these.

They don’t have very many views, the first one has a horrible like to dislike ratio.

I mean, somebody had to get paid to make these as well as do all the sound effects and voicework. So, it’s like they are just doing this for fun and not really looking to make money off of them.

They are also going to air on the network, but it’s about creating awareness and doing a fun thing. Not everything makes money. Some stuff you take a hit on.

And like/dislike means not that much because we know it’s likely a bunch of manbabies mad that girls get a star wars thing. They will still watch.

And don’t forget the merch! There will be merch.

Why didn’t they use the same voice-actress that played Leia in Star Wars – Rebels?

    She was perfect.
