Hmmm I think we’re gonna have to accept that Leia’s story won’t be as satisfying as it could’ve been. Can’t be disappointed when your expectations are low. But I no doubt believe Rian will have something special in store for us.
I agree. I can tell Rian didn’t want to say to much about Leia. I can tell he was a little choked up. I still am grieving over her passing. I just hope I can make it through watching TLJ. We miss and love you Carrie!
And I don’t think we can blame him. We knew he had something in store for Leia for episode 9 and her sudden demise really threw all of us in a loop. All we can hope is that Rian will try his best to close the story as satisfying as possible.
Originally Leia was plainly meant to survive this movie, and they had shot all of Carrie’s scenes. She will not be available for any pick-up scenes. If they felt they had to write Leia’s death into Episode 8, we must assume that it now happens pretty abruptly, like the ship she is on blowing up, somewhere near the end of the film. If so, the end of this episode may be the darkest and most depressive yet, unless you count the demise of nearly the entire Jedi order in Revenge of the Sith (and we knew that one was coming). With the relevant actor dead, there is presumably no way they can build up a big, worthy exit for Leia, like her going out in a blaze of glory while sacrificing her life for some greater good. It will be painfully sudden and “pointless”, though perhaps more realistic for it.
