Star Wars Land Opens in 2019!

Disney CEO Bob Iger has officially confirmed that the two Star Wars Land expansions for Disneyland and Disney World will open some time in 2019.

From The Official Disney Parks Website:

Our new Star Wars-themed lands at Disneyland park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be opening in 2019! Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger just made the announcement many of you have been so anxious to hear during today’s Walt Disney Company Q1 FY17 Earnings call.

So the parks ought to open four years after they were first announced. Smart money says that they’ll open in the Summer, when park attendance should be at its highest for the year – and, importantly, well ahead of Episode IX.

On an unrelated note, the Pandora: World Of Avatar expansion will be opening in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Park on May 27. Hopefully, that should help whet your appetites as we continue to wait for Star Wars Land over the course of the next two years.

I know this is probably not going to happen what with their limited space but I’d love to see a SW mini-arcade somewhere not owned by Stephen J. Sansweet. There are not that many either, I’m talking from the 1983 Atari Star Wars to Battle Pod.

I thought Star Wars Land was supposed to open at the end of 2017. Was I just wrong about that?

I know that timeline was awfully aggressive, but isn’t that what they initially said?

I disagree with one of the comments in the post. Having worked for Disney World back in the late 1990’s I can tell you most of the attractions (not all, most) open in October (Disney world was dedicated in October 1971) as this is considered a non-peak time. This gives the park a chance to find any problems that may have been overlooked during planning and time to make changes before the large groups start showing up in the summer months. Walt Disney himself learned this lesson the hard way when he opened Disneyland in California during the summer months and had major issues.

Maybe in the past, but Avatar land at Animal Kingdom is opening in May so maybe they are doing away with that.

May is also non-peak, however June is not. They get a few weeks to work things out. It’s also likely they will be doing a “soft-opening” in the weeks and months prior to opening only to cast members and families plus a limited number of guest with “special passes”. They did this with AK in 1998. I was visiting that park months before the official opening when almost no one was there.

This sounds great. As it turn out, I won’t be able to attend Celebration Orlando this year. But I’m guessing that the next American Celebration will return to Anaheim in 2019. The ’15 Anaheim Celebration was fantastic, but next time I’m taking the entire family. So, we’ll be able to check out the event and hit up the new Star Wars park in Disneyland. Good times, good times.

    VR/AR attractions?

I’m particularly interested in seeing what they do related to VR/AR.
After playing VR games/demos such as Trials on Tatooine & Lightblade – can’t wait to experience Star Wars in a very immersive & interactive format.

I’ve seen members from Mice Chat speculating that Star Wars Land would be opened by 2018 because of the various rumors they hear about its construction and how it took 3 years to complete Cars Land. Guess they were a year off.
