A Better Look at the Star Destroyer Finalizer and Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle from Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

FinalizerOur friends at fathead.com, the industry leader in graphics for large & small spaces, sent us a few hi-res images with their latest Star Wars: The Force Awakens wall graphics line. You can see several never before seen renders with characters and ships from the movie as well as some familiar ones…

The most interesting wall graphics from the line are a new render of the Star Destroyer (called Finalizer) from the second teaser trailer, and Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle. Apart from the brief shot from the second TFA teaser trailer, we’ve seen those 2 ships only in toy form, and now we can have a more detailed look with these hi-res CG renders.

I’m afraid so. Most of everything.. so far. I don’t sugar coat anything. These ships are clunky and utilitarian. McQuarrie served the OT well, time to look beyond with fresh and unique designs

I love the costumes and design of most of what I’ve seen. Especially those Luggabeasts. My only concern so far is the walkers we’ve seen in the right of the First Order rally… they looked very… uninteresting. Hopefully in motion it’s a different story. Hard to beat an AT-AT but the AT-TE’s weren’t bad.

They actually used RMQ’s designs on a lot of things. Sucks is rather subjective opinion anyway, Some people would say everything sucks unless they were given the chance to choose designs. Not everything is about you.

if they make them too much like RMQ or the OT some will complain they look too similar, if they change them a lot some will complain they look too different. They can’t win. For everyone one of you there will be the opposite view.

Kylo Ren’s command shuttle looks very awesome, excited to see the space scenes in TFA. I’m still worried about the CGI for those sequences, maybe only cause the two JJ Trek movies had fake looking CG space sequences much of time.

The CG sequences in the Trek movies looked fine – its just that sometimes the shaky camera distorts them. I also think the ship effects looked more polished in the first film than in ‘Into Darkness’ because they had more time to tinker with them.

Gotta say, Finalizer looks like a true evolution of the Star Destroyer. In my mind, the Clone Wars-made Venerator ships were expensive, smaller, but better well stocked and advanced, the regular Star Destroyer bigger, more guns, but less advanced because there was no major war for years, and then now, out of need for unfinished business, the First Order has taken then best of both. That’s what it looks like for me

Just think about the changes in crafts from Hope to Empire alone. At-Ats, Snow Speeders, Bespin Ships, Large transports, Super Star destroyer, Tie Bombers etc.
Empire to Jedi, A wing, B wing, Imperial Shuttle, Speeder Bikes, Tie Enterceptors.

The model team had vision to expand their ship design.
This is not a complaint, it’s an observation.

Point is, as much as I enjoy familiarity, I also enjoy new. One of the major aspects I enjoyed from the OT , was the variety of craft from one film to the next.

I’m sure you can even admit, how cool it was to see the B Wings and Scout Speeder Bikes for the first time in Jedi.

Star Destroyers, Tie Fighters, basically all the Star Wars stuff from the OT is the iconic imagery. I have no issue with them sticking closely to the OT in look and feel. Especially with The Force Awakens. I bet we get different designs and brand new stuff with the other films coming out.

Remember, this is a reintroduction to Star Wars and a sequel to Return of the Jedi.

Another thing you all should think about is…In the Star Wars Universe, the ships were designed by Corellians which also designed the Falcon, which is why they all share the same style.
Presumably, when the Emperor was in power, they had the Corellians design and construct their ships for them. My impression had always been, they were Forced rather than Paid.
But since the Emperor rein is no more, Corellia would probably no longer build these ships?

Looks very much like a successor the OT SD’s.
    This is fine.
What I don’t like is the feminization of STar Wars.
I have no interest, none, in seeing a STar Wars film about a girl.
Even less than this, I have negative interest in John Boyega’s character.
The only character I’m interested in Kylo Ren, who clearly is the good guy.
And the Empire is on the right side of this new conflict.
I’m hoping Kylo Ren will slaughter Boyega by the end of TFA.
This will bring a tear to my eye, much as Jar Jar being terminated at the end of TPM.

Boba Fett is a bounty hunter who works alone to track down his targets for money. I don’t see how these characters are rehashes of each other. They both have pretty different roles.

I’m really afraid that they are ruining Starwars. The fanboys have dogged the PT so much that Disney is overcompensating by doing two things. Basically keeping the Jedi gone, and the one left will seldomly be seen.

With the new Cannon, Sidious sending people in search of dark forces, it opens up to non-Sith (although looks just like one).

They are going to limited all the old hero film time. We’re basically getting an updated version of ANH. Fullfilling none of the promise of ROTJ.

Luke, what, you didn’t even try to rebuild the galaxy’s most powerful protectors. But he has grown a beard.

Just saying the PT is important. I personally don’t want a completely dumbed down weak version of the Jedi from the OT. I want something in between.

Not all fans hate on the PT. I think in many ways, it was better than OT. Not all of it, but the Jedi were.

It doesn’t really make sense for the new films to take much influence from the PT. Regardless of whether you love the PT or hate it it’s just too much of a gap in the timeline.

Also, I would take any rumours of what Luke’s been up to with a huge grain of salt. We really don’t know yet.

      • September 9, 2015 at 12:55 pm
        Permalink

There is a gap, but doesn’t mean the force gets weaker, or that Luke shouldn’t want to rebuild the order. What they’re doing is rehashing the OT, almost as if they are quite literally retelling it.

And we do know somewhat what he has not been up too, rebuilding what the empire destroyed.

And the PT was influenced heavily by the OT. It makes perfect sense for events that happened during the clone wars to be very much part of modern Starwars.

We are still impacted by the events of WWI, WWII, Korea, etc.

It’s not as if suddenly the Force users couldn’t do the things the Jedi were doing before the Republuc failed.

From a reliance on PE, over CGI, to the same themes of Sand, Snow, Forest, etc. The hero with a droid, the best damn flier I’m the Galaxy, etc. everything we’ve seen has harkened heavily back to the OT.

That’s fine to a point, I grew up during OT. But I enjoyed the PT, and the expanded universe. I read countless books. It’s as if they are killing off both the EU and the PT completely.

I think so far, it’s enough to worry that they’ve allowed fear to dictate choices over telling a story that worthy of completing what the other SIX films started.

I’m sure I remember a scene in which Windu and Yoda discuss the force, or their ability to use it getting weaker.

Who’s to say Luke hasn’t been trying to rebuild the Jedi?

I just can’t see how they could take influences from the PT without it seeming shoehorned in. Maybe a defunct battle droid in a museum or something but beyond that…

I don’t see it as fear dictating their choices. I thinks it’s more that they’ve chosen to cull some of the weaker elements and not over complicated the knew story.

The Jedi seemed a little dull and uninteresting in the prequel trilogy not to mention flat out stupid with some of their decisions. I much prefer the wandering and isolated knights from the original trilogy. Nothing takes the coolness and mystery out of the Jedi Order more than a council committee every other Wednesday.

However the PT did establish (George Lucas) image of the Jedi and the Galaxy in general. Everything after that period is affected by and “related to” the Jedi, the Sith and the “Old Republic”. Ep7 onwards should display a strong connection to that 60+ year history – a simple “reboot” is not worthy of the Star Wars Universe.

I follow every news item about TFA. But with news every day I’m starting to long for the shroud of mystery.

Regarding the ships, I love the direction they are going. So, they wanted to change the style a little bit to show that things have been upgraded to a new era in the story. But what is awesome is that they retained most of the original style. Just made minor changes to the Star Destroyers and tie-fighters and such. Normally I would be strongly against such a move but I’ve been very impressed and looking forward to it.

The star destroyer looks amazing with its new design. But without its round antenna on the top it looks “Bald”. Kylo ren ship is just badass and wicked.
I just hope there is more than one star destroyer though. I mean is the Empire imposing or just a weak villain.
