Sir Christopher Lee Dead at 93

Christopher Lee

Some very sad news today. Legendary actor Christopher Lee passed away earlier this week at the age of 93…

A veteran performer with over 200 roles to his credit, he is most widely known for portraying Dracula in a number of Hammer horror films as well as the role of Saruman the White in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films. Star Wars fans, however, will always remember him as Count Dooku, the separatist leader in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

Dooku

Husband of over 50 years, war veteran, and Tolkien enthusiast, Christopher Lee was an impressive man who lived an interesting life both inside and outside of Hollywood. He will be sorely missed and long remembered.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Christopher Lee’s family and friends.

Christopher Lee was a great actor. Count Dooku was a weak character, partially because he was underused.

His character served its purpose for the story in the PT. You want to see more of Count Dooku? Go watch The Clone Wars series (and don’t comment that you’re not going to because it’s a cartoon; that’s such a cop-out answer to make oneself feel like they too “adult” and “old” to be watching it just because one is an adult yet forgets that Star Wars is for all ages, including children).

Yes! The clone Wars has given us exceptional story telling and character depth in a time line leading up to ROTS and I can appreciate that we would not have had this experience outside of an animated show sufficed to say, its Star Wars dude! with plenty of Dooku! Great performance in the PT although weak from screen time and of course, an early deathly departure! No! I am not a PT hater even though I feel the PT was some of the most appalling and poorly executed motion pictures ever made in my opinion Oh ROTS was ok however and like the Clone Wars, Rebels and so fourth, It’s Star Wars dude! Hate to say I love them all! Christopher Lee, thanks for your lifetime of inspiration and talented performances through the years, bless your soul n Rip Sir

Very sad news indeed. We have all been blessed to have enjoyed Sir Christopher, Sir Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing breathe life into our beloved Star Wars Universe and give it that touch of gravitas and class that must always be a signature of all future content.
Good night & god bless Sir.

This is becoming a meme … I was looking at the Wikipedia article about him only a few days ago.

Well. He had a long, rich life, and while he ended up being hopelessly typecast, that was also because he did the part of “charismatic elderly evil guy” so very well. By appearing in the Lord of the Rings/Star Wars franchises in his later years, he became familiar to a whole new generation of young people.

And since these movies will be watched religiously for generations to come, he did achieve cultural immortality.

Sir Christopher Lee is dead. Long live Sir Christopher Lee!

Sad news this morning indeed. I’m so glad that Christopher Lee got to enjoy a resurgence in his popularity later in life, though. Between Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, he must have gained easily as many new fans as he had from his appearances in the old Hammer horror films. He will certainly be remembered for a long time to come.

Clear skies to you, Sir Christopher…

He spoke about how blessed he felt to have had such a long and exciting career and to have worked with directors such as George Lucas and Peter Jackson. He seemed very at peace and content with his life and career. That’s how I’ll always remember him now. R.I.P Christopher Lee. A true legend.

    RIP Sir Christopher Lee.

One movie he was in that I’ve always enjoyed is the old cult classic “The Wicker Man,” which I recommend (also, he sings in it). Is about a (conservative Christian) Police man who investigates the disappearance of a child; his investigation leads him to an island where everyone is oddly pagan. Lee plays Lord Summerisle, the leader of the pagan commune. Interesting despite it being more than a little dated; and the ending is genuinely unsettling.

One movie I’m interested in seeing (but haven’t been able to, because it hasn’t been released in the US thus far) is a late ’90s film called “Jinnah,” where Lee plays the titular character (i.e. the founder of modern Pakistan). I read an interview with Lee where he said it was the film he was most proud of.

Wicker Man was a pretty interesting film. There is an extended cut that gives both the Christian cop and Lord Sumerisle a little more depth, but the quality of the print is inferior to the theatrical version. I guess the negatives were lost and are rumored to be buried beneath an interstate somewhere in Europe.

I will always crap on Dooku as a character, but that will never have anything to do with Christoher Lee who did as well as anyone could with that role. He will always be one of the greats. My favorite character of his was a different count: Count De Rochefort.

To go at 93…we can all only hope that we live as long as he did. and we can all only dream of accomplishing what he acomplished. As with Peter Cushing, and Sir Alec Guiness, Christopher Lee’s time on screen was brief…but the fact that we all love those characters so much is really a testament to their performances and how truly remarkable and talented they were.He was one of a kind.

I really liked the character of Count Dooku. He reminded me a little of Vader when he was talking smack to Anakin and Obi wan . Those two fights were pretty furocious and were the most believable of the prequel trilogy. He had a great tamber of a voice and will be sadly missed. It would be nice to maybe see him in a future movie with a younger version of himself. R.I.P. Did he erase those files and what was the truth to the whole Syfo dyas thing? Maybe it will be answered in the upcoming trilogy
