SW7N Review: Marvel’s Kanan – The Last Padawan #3

Kanan #3

The third issue of Marvel’s new comic book series Kanan: The Last Padawan is out now. Check out our review after the jump.

Excerpt from the review:

This issue starts out with Kanan making a getaway from a slew of those weird, X-Wing like fighters we saw in Revenge of the Sith. This is a shoot to kill chase, but Kanan just squeezes by them and jumps into hyperspace.

Kanan #3

The hard truth hits our young Padawan once again: where the hell to go in a galaxy that is hunting not only you, but everyone and everything you are? This walks the line of redundancy from the last issue, but I think they pull it off. Kanan really feels lost and hopeless, and with the ability to travel anywhere, he turns right around and heads back to Kaller to return the stolen ship.

I don’t need to taste a dead rat to know I shouldn’t eat it.

But what if you insist it’s a rat when it’s a steak?

NOBODY CARES. Now how about some real news, like Christopher Lee’s death? You don’t want to miss that like you did with the leaked TFA footage.

Obviously you were the one who missed the leaked TFA footage, since we were actually the first to report it. Later we took down the article because we were asked too.

Kanan…yet another non-white new Star Wars character.

Disney is scrubbing the GFFA of whites.

Can it get anymore obvious that Robert Iger and company are anti-white male?

Creating non-white characters is not the same as being anti-white. Particularly given the buttload of white characters who already exist and will in the future. You know, like 2/3 of the new “hero trinity” – Daisy (white), Oscar (white), and John (black). Sorry that 66% white isn’t Caucasian enough for you.

You’re white, and I’m white, but lots of people aren’t. It is a good thing to make fictional characters that anyone, of any race/gender/age can relate to.

I am sad for you that you do not see this, and also that you are obsessed with such matters. Life’s too short to harbor bitterness, particularly bitterness at other people’s differences.

Oscar Isaac is actually Hispanic, but that’s beside the point. Why people are complaining is beyond me. I believe the cast is diverse just like the planet earth and the people who will consume this film. Obviously it’s very closed minded individuals who are upset because no intelligent compassionate human beings would care at all about that. It actually had me infuriated when people were pissed about there being a black stormtrooper, they’re not clones get over it.

The artwork in the Kanan run is beyond the best we have seen in any of the Star Wars comics thus far. I don’t have a ton of interest in the Kanan character since he clearly doesn’t have a future or make any impact on the Star Wars universe that I know and love. He is an interesting side character but he isn’t exactly a major player. That being said, the artwork is so good that this has become a must read the day it comes out.
