More Interesting Bits and Rumors About the Star Wars VII Skellig Michael Shoot.

Skellig Michael

Now with the Skellig Michael shoot officially wrapped we can look back and see that actually the 3 day filming process on the Irish island revealed maybe the most real info about the movie since the start of filming 3 months ago. Of course some of the info is based on rumors, but they are rumors based on set reports which is much more credible than just web talk. Hit the jump for some more interesting bits and rumors from the Skellig shoot…

First of all if you missed our previous reports about the Skellig shoot, you make sure to check them out. They are all connected. Click HERE and HERE.

As we told you in the start of the shoot the scene shot on Skellig will feature only two actors. Later it was confirmed that Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley were the only cast members present on the set.

Something more – the production names of the two characters have been revealed via the production tag board at Portmagee. They had the initials K and OW. Most likely, as some rumors from the Puzzlewood suggested, Daisy’s character production name is Kira. That leaves the OW initials for Luke. First the initials were quoted as DK but later another site reported that they are OW. It’s really not that far fetched Luke’s production name to be Obi-Wan for instance, isn’t it? Considering his latest look and rumors he definitely can be called the Obi-Wan of the Sequel Trilogy. The PT had Qui-Gon the OT had Obi-Wan and the ST has Luke. Of course OW could be something quite different from Obi-Wan but that’s really not important.

Let me just remind you that these are just production names and they won’t be used in the actual movie.

The Magic Board

Now what else can be found on the “Magic Tags Board”.

The first initials under “production” are KK. So despite the rumors that the scene shot on Skellig will be only a minute long in the actual movie, the presence of Lucasfilm President and Star Wars VII Executive Producer Kathleen Kennedy suggests that the scene is really important. And if the initials KK are not enough to convince you that Kathy was there, here’s another proof (via kerryseye):

Kennedy and Hamill

Under “camera” you can see the initials of the Director of Photography Dan Mindel. No surprises here. What’s more interesting are the initials CB and RC under Stunts.

The presence of Hamill’s and Ridley’s stunt doubles on set really speaks for itself. So obviously they were not filming some sad scenes with dialogue for the end of the movie as some speculations suggested. You probably remember that the initials CB belong to Chloe Bruce who was on set with Daisy Ridley during the Abu Dhabi shoot. She was rumored to be Ridley’s stunt double and now her presence on the island confirms it. You can see some of Chloe’s extraordinary abilities here:

And do you remember these extras reports from the Abu Dhabi shoot:

A source out in Abu Dhabi tells me that Daisy’s character is EXTREMELY gymnastic.

An extra on set of Star Wars Episode VII told me “today was very exciting, very exhausting, but really awesome. it was all about action today, explosions were awesome, and Daisy amazing like always, light on her feet, sharp face, beautiful, quick, and very polite.”

Obviously if the Skellig scene is at the end of the movie then Ridley already has some skills. It surely is not the start of the training by Luke. And I still like the idea of a possible stand off between the two although it’s very unlikely. Make no mistake. There will be good guys tempted by the Dark Side in the sequel trilogy. We just have to wait and see who they are.

So as you can see the Magic Board revealed plenty of really cool bits about this otherwise secretive shoot. It definitely told us more than what we’ve learned from the Iceland, Abu Dhabi, Puzzlewood or Pinewood shoots.

Actually I’m pretty surprised they just left that board open to the public…. Well, not anymore 🙂

    [SPOILER CAUTION]

    ‘For what it’s worth

-Title will be the first to feature only one word.

-Han and Leia had two children, a boy and a girl. Though they weren’t twins. The elder boy was said to have died in childbirth, but was secretly raised by Max Von Sydow’s character. A girl, “O…..” was born a few years later. The male child won’t appear until the next film [which takes place nearly a decade later]. This is why only one offspring has been cast for Episode 7.

-Oscar Isaac’s character “K….” is shipmate on the Falcon, is “O…..”‘s love interest, and inherits the ship when Han perishes.

-Luke inhabits Obi-Wan’s old home, is sought out after a disturbing turn of events, returns to Dagobah for information/reflection.

-Boyega’s character is childhood friends with “O…..”, is a pilot, accompanies “O….” to find Luke.

-Film will mark the first time we see the assembly of a light saber on screen, following rare ‘element’ acquisition by young Jedi in training on remote world (recently filmed in Ireland).

    -Adam Driver plays an officer.

    -Gwendoline Christie plays a general.

    …more to come’

Nothing said it was Obi-Wan’s hut on Tatooine. Maybe it is from his homeworld or birth place. Obi-Wan always had kind of an Irish feel to him, so why can’t his homeworld be an island off of Ireland?

Well, of course not. But lets use our imagination just a smidge, shall we? Parallels between the Star Wars universe and the real world help with relatability… Plus you completely overlook the point of the post: Not Tattooine.

“Parallels between the Star Wars universe and the real world help with relatability.”

Right. That’s why the Skywalkers, the Lars and Beru look so much like Arabs, North Africans, Sepharadic Jews, Beduins, or any other ethnicity originally from a desert environment parallel to Tatooine in the real world.

And just for the record, neither Ewan McGregor nor Sir Alec Guinness were born in Ireland.

Oh please, let’s not blow this out of proportion. And I never said they were from Ireland… amazing how confrontational some have to be.

And you are still overlooking the original point that Obi-Wan’s “home” doesn’t have to just be Tattooine.

“old home” does not necessarily equal Tattooine. Was Obi Wan born on Tattooine? No. According to Wookiepedia his homeworld was Stewjon, “a terrestrial planet with an atmosphere that consisted of a breathable oxygen mix that could support Human life. The world had a climate that supported the growth of grass.” I’ll admit that I do not know if this history is considered canon or not, but it merely illustrates that there are other candidate worlds for Obi Wan’s “old home.”

Obi Wan was a jedi of the old republic where they take kids from birth.. it’s not obi wans home planet, give it a rest lol

Well again, according to Wookiepedia, Obi Wan had some memory of his home planet and was permitted to occasionally visit his family on Stewjon.

And I believe there has been suggestions in the upcoming Rebels that Obi Wan didn’t just stay on Tattooine the entire time after delivering the infant Luke to Owen and Beru up until Luke sought out old Ben Kenobi.

So again, why can’t Obi Wan’s “old home” be someplace besides Tattooine?

          • August 2, 2014 at 1:27 am
            Permalink

Was never shown or talked about in the films.

Why put Luke in Ben’s never before heard of or seen home when there’s millions of different possibilities for this location.

“I will look over the boy”

Not.. “I will look over the boy, and take vacations to my summer home”

Luke is the son of the most powerful Jedi ever. He’s not gonna go live in someone else’s home. He would build his own lol

          • August 2, 2014 at 1:39 am
            Permalink

Fair enough, but just because Obi Wan’s homeworld has never been shown or mentioned in the films does not mean it is impossible for it to show up in the ST. I like the idea of Luke seeking out the history and origins of the Jedi and Sith in his quest to better understand the force, and coming across Obi Wan’s homeworld in such a scenario would not be unheard of. I prefer this as an alternative to Tattooine for Obi Wan’s “old home” as opposed to some other as-yet-unknown world.

While I tend to agree with you that it logically makes less sense that Obi Wan would leave Tattooine “for vacation” or otherwise after beginning to “look after the boy,” it is still within the realm of possibilities, whether to visit his homeworld or some other place. Again, I think Rebels has hinted at that possibility… we will just have to wait and see. But you are right, this location could serve any number of different purposes than as Obi Wan’s “old home.” Just speculating and throwing out possibilities for discussion.

“-Title will be the first to feature only one word.”

Works for Star Wars Rebels, perhaps for spinoffs as well, but after A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith it would feel a bit off to have something along the lines of Star Wars Episode 7: Returns or something of that nature. Multiple words seem to better serve as a summary to the films’ contents.

“-The next film takes place nearly a decade later. Oscar Isaac’s character “K….” is shipmate on the Falcon, is “O…..”‘s love interest, and inherits the ship when Han perishes.”

I must admit although I already loath all talk of Han’s character dying, to rub salt in the wounds, and have the next movie take place nearly a decade later, whereby theoretically Han, Leia, Luke, etc. could be pleasantly written off into the sunset by that point without being killed, that would just suck. As for Oscar inheriting the Falcon? Since A New Hope it was introduced as Han/Chewie’s ship, even when the backstory was further explored whereby it was stated that Han won it from Lando, and when Lando was flying it in Return of the Jedi it was always plainly known that it was Han/Chewie’s (minus the EU stuff). If JJ is going for something special to recapture the A New Hope vibe for a new generation as he has stated in the past, then it would be better to have a new ship introduced, and not steal from the previous generations’ own characters. I say, think of something new, and allow Han/Chewie to keep what is theirs’, especially if they are just being brought back after 30 years to perish anyways.

Just gotta say, just because Kathleen Kennedy is there doesn’t mean it’s important. If she hasn’t been to all of the locations anyway, then remember it’s a good excuse for these people to bring family and take a vacation essentially and just visit a beautiful place… Having said that, the scene could still be important. Not sure how to feel about this. I want to see Daisy as a jedi, and I want to see Luke in a lightsaber fight again, but I want those characters to be on the same side.. Preferably as uncle/niece. I’m pretty sure Daisy is a hero character and I don’t see how on earth they would want to make Luke turn to the dark side, so I have no idea what’s going on.. 10 years later? Why? That is a very inconvenient plot point for many reasons.

All momentum would be completely and totally lost. Plus you’d have to spend an substantial amount of time setting the stage again in the VIII sequel.

The biggest advantage of the middle film of a trilogy is that you can dive deep into characters and not get caught up in the setup of the 1st film and the closing of the 3rd film…

If this were the case, all of those characters and relationships would change in 10 years.

Which would mean that something extremely substantial would have to happen for 10 years to be required. I just don’t see it. 10 years is too long.

    So…why is 10 years necessary?

“It’s a nine-part saga that has a beginning, a middle and an end. It progresses over a period of about fifty or sixty years with about twenty years between trilogies, each trilogy taking about six or seven years.”

We know it’s 30 years after, which actually makes more sense considering how old the big 3 is.

I just don’t see 10 years between VII and VIII…

Yep there is a lot of prequel hating. And with good cause. Because not only did they suck really bad, but they seamed to go out of there way to destroy the characters and stories set up it the OT.

As for the casting of cute little Jake in Episode I, it has been widely observed that he looks much like a (very) young Leonardo DiCaprio. Quite possibly that is what won Jake the part, not his, ahem, thespian abilities. It seems that George Lucas at one point hoped to get Leo to play Anakin Skywalker in Episodes 2 and 3; he even had a meeting with Leo. Nobody says no to George Lucas, right? Well, Leo did.

I would say you must be kidding but this is George Lucas we are talking about here. What happened to him? Maybe Lucas a had a stroke in the 90s and it killed the part of his brain responsible for creativity.

It is old wizard as I stated in the previous article about this as Luke is now “the old wizard” like obi wan was in a new hope. Good job JG for putting 2+2 together

Sounds like we got a Super Shadow wannabe up above, who likes to make things up for gullible folks to believe lol

I agree that Daisy Ridley is going to be a Jedi. I think John Boyega is going to be related to Lando somehow, and will be the charismatic funny guy in this new trilogy. I think it will be quality, equal to the OT and light years (pun intended) better than the PT.

Viral posted a rumor a while ago that Han’s son would appear briefly in EP7 and then prominently in EP8.

This new rumor is that Oscar Isaac is not the son, which makes sense: he doesn’t look like Han and Leia really.

It seems George Lucas’ outlines are out the window and JJ is doing his own thing.

I’m hoping tha if Daisy’s character is a Jedi then we see her taking the Jedi trials with Luke on the Island.
