This man is incredible. The Mozart of our era. I really cheer for his oscar, tho I think they will give it Morricone.
Every time I see someone refering to a composer as “the new mozart” I roll my eyes: he more likely is the John Williams of our era.
Mozart is overrated. Tchaikovsky is where the real money is.

Nah. It’s gotta be Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Well, JJ also called him like that.
And if there is someone who truly deserves that title is John Williams imo.
I LOVE The Scavenger and Jedi Steps. So cool.
Those were my favorites as well.
I pre-ordered the soundtrack on amazon. When I got it, due to either a bug, or secrecy, the songs were blank, just “Track 1, Track 2, ect…”. I knew that song was for Rey, that’s how good John Williams is!
Definitely security imo. We don’t need another “Qui-gon’s Noble End”.
Rey’s theme is the best music Williams has scored in my opinion.
it wasn’t entirely original tho, still sampled Beastie Boys’ flute tune. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP3WNEqj9Bc
I hope you’re joking because that’s funny.
Ha that is a good joke. You are this comment section’s funny guy I take it.
It’s bewildering to me how anyone could badmouth this soundtrack because the majority of it was new and they didn’t instantly remember it. Rey’s theme is the best piece of Star Wars music since Duel of the Fates. It goes to show that there people who complain about absolutely anything – If it’s too familiar it’s bad. if it’s not familiar enough it’s bad. It’s a no-win situation.
It’s awesome. I was hesitant to liking it at first because it was all new. But it’s an evolution of style and also calls back to the OT and PT in very subtle ways. Brilliant piece of work.
This score get more and more memorable the more you listen to it, people were bitching that it all wasn’t burned in their head within a week. This score has gotten better and better every time I listen to it. So many moments I was touched emotionally in the movie and these themes remind of that. I don’t put the scores in competition with each other, this is a wonderful, beautiful score on it’s own. No competition need apply.
It was weird, when I heard Rey’s theme in the video, I got goosebumps, I didn’t psyche myself into it, it just happened.
I think that theme’s a keeper.
Definitely. I didn’t notice the Resistance theme until my last viewing and it was really cool, definitely a throwback.
episode VII’s music was great. I think Williams’ score was a good thing in the prequels aswell, even if I kinda found his Attack of the clones sometimes repeating the same score for action scenes
March of the Resistance is my personal favourite. Every time I hear it I have goosebumps. It is utterly epic! I also love this moment from the main title when we see the Finalizer for the first time and the troop carriers are heading to Jakku.
Not to mention Rey’s theme, The Jedi steps and Kylo’s theme or the Abduction.
Scherzo for the x wings is probably my favorite or reys theme
Sadly, that’s true for me as well, but only because there’s not really that much to choose from otherwise.
Probably the wrong article to put this on but oh well…
In the star wars universe the force can be passed on biologically, or so we gather from the current canon material. However we only really see that happen with the Skywalker bloodline. All the other force-sensitives we meet ether don’t have a detailed enough back story in canon yet or are what are known as children of the force. The children of the force is a term used to describe force sensitives who don’t come from a force sensitive family. The only force users in star wars canon who are confirmed to not be children of the force are Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa and Ben Solo. All descendants of the immaculately conceived Anakin Skywalker. So since this phenomenon hasn’t been around for long it makes sense that if it’s true it will be revealed soon, maybe even in episode 8.
What if the first order discovers this secret hidden in Kylo Ren’s flesh and blood. What if in a radical twist this trilogy of star wars movies or the next is about stamping out the skywalkers lest they be cloned into an army. It would subvert everybody’s expectations and prevent future movies from being repetitive skywalker story’s.
Another benefit to this twist would be that it gives Kylo Ren something more to do rather than just be a villain. I think his resistance of the light and fall to absolute dark was possibly the best part of the force awakens but there is really nowhere for him to go after this except the path of redemption and we just saw that in star wars. How would he deal with being expendable and non-unique, with being hunted down by the “heroes” and being sought after by every criminal faction in the galaxy.
Sound like a weird, dark, sci-fi movie? Remember, Rian Johnson is writing and directing episode 8.
Finally the last reason I think this would be a good idea is to differentiate the new star wars from the old expanded universe. Many hardcore star wars fans feel like Lucasfilm are just replacing a rich and iconic lore with a simplified rip off universe. Having the skywalkers become a dangerous weapon that requires eradication or control would certainly justify the abandoning of fan-favorite novels like the thrawn trilogy.
the real question is… will he be back for episode VIII?!
I definitely hope so!
We can only hope!!! I do think so, as long as he stays in good health I do believe he will score all of the “Episodes” of the star wars saga. He seems to generally love star wars and gets him even more critical acclaim so i see no reason why he wouldn’t.
i sure hope so.. now that we’re familiar with the new themes he established in force awakens, he can draw them out more in episode VIII. fingers crossed
The Master
His music for TFA is very different from those for OT. The music is less operatic, reflected by the directional style of JJ.
My favorite track was definitely “To Boldly Go”.
