UPDATE! Simon Pegg Talks Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Simon Pegg has been pretty busy lately promoting his latest movie Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. The British actor gave numerous interviews, where he also briefly talked about his experience shooting The Force Awakens, how he got the role and more…
From PopSugar.com:
“I mean, seeing it [Star Wars] for the first time [as a kid] and coming out and being so utterly changed by it, it was an incredible thing to be part of it,” Pegg told us. “I was down there days when I wasn’t working just to hang out and see everybody. Meeting the likes of Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford — they were my heroes growing up. They still are. It was extraordinary, and I’m sure they find it hilariously funny. I was holding Carrie Fisher, like, ‘I love you!’ And I could see it, looking into her eyes, I could see the same eyes that I’d seen as a kid. It was literally a dream come true. They’re all awesome. They’re great people.”
In another interview (that I can no longer find), Pegg shared that J.J. Abrams surprisingly asked him if he would like to be in TFA on a casual lunch meeting. He immediately said “yes”.
Also while speaking to HuffingtonPost, Simon made an interesting reveal. It appears that the behind the scenes footage from The Force Awakens, shown at San Diego Comic Con was actually put together for the cast and crew at the end of the shoot last year. It was not done particularly for the Comic Con (from 15:25 min.): HERE
And finally here’s a funny video with Pegg dodging Star Wars questions. “No question the fans will love this movie”! 🙂 (from 3:15)

Wait, so does he play the big dude with horns on his face?
Pleasa to be telling meesa yousa not lookin’ for the guy with tha itty-bitty booma in heesa pants? Heesa not onna this forum!
I know this has nothing to do with the article, but I just noticed that star wars celebration europe 3-day tickets are sold out. Does that mean that they’re sold out at all?
No way to access celebration europe for 3 days?
The 3-Day pass is sold out, however you can still buy individual passes for each day. So just buy a pass for each of the three days.
It sucks, but better than nothing.
could pegg be the catfish x wing pilot?
I think that Pegg would’ve actually made a pretty funny droid to counterpart C-3PO. Not necessarily the same model as 3PO but a droid with some similar functions. I can imagine those two going back and forth with clever insults and R2-D2 would team up with Pegg to torment 3PO as well!
You mean, kinda like this?

Whaaaat??? When did this come out?! lol This is genius stuff. That last “ooooh” from Nick Frost as R2 was just comedic gold! hahaha Thanks for sharing, friend! Cheers!
You are welcome, and if i remember correctly they did this skit while they were filming Paul.
I’m shocked: not once did he mention practicl effects.
No…but you did.
wow. star wars star trek and MI. i remember seeing shaun of the dead and now hes in everything
I know. Believe me, I know.
I remember him being in an awful 90s sitcom. Actually I don’t really remember that, I saw a repeat on cable and thought “Bloody hell, that’s Simon Pegg! He looks about 12!”
I’m a big Spaced fan, so that’s what I remember him from really.
boring!!!!!!
Thank you for that insightful contribution.
Never been a fan of his work.
Shaun of the dead and worlds end are my favs.
On topic…
Looks like his character is nude? And what’s that structure behind him? The brown looking door thing?
He’s in the Jakku marketplace set.
https://youtu.be/_WDsAnDgx7E
I like him even better! Thanks for sharing!
I agree. This makes me feel much better about Pegg’s involvement
Pegg sucks!
Dude has such a loud mouth yet he hasn’t made anything that’s good over his career other than some half-baked comedic movies like Spaced and Shaun of The Dead. I’m glad I don’t have to see his ugly mug in TFA because otherwise, my viewing experience will be tainted with seeing such POS.
Dumb POS who can’t really make or be in anything that is good so he has to be loud and vocal on his opinions about something ust to get his name out there in the public in the hopes that people wil pay attention to him. It’s really pathetic to see him stoop so low for attention.
Shaun of the Dead is a great little film
Nobody cares.
And nobody cares of what your opinion is either.
You clearly do.
Simon Pegg was in Band of Brothers. Did you know? He died in the second episode.
Agreed.
Nice, good we have people invloved like simon pegg who understand the magic of star wars.
Soooo….
Simon says: “Carrie’s a milf.”
all downhill from spaced really.
He doesn’t deserve to be in the movie why? Because he has an opinion about another movie?
No, because he’s a hypocritical asshole who obsesses over things he doesn’t like and insults people who do like them (he kicked a guy who liked AotC)
Simon Pegg is speaking the truth. Either you are in denial that the PT is any good or have horrible taste in movies. The prequels sucked, hopefully JJ will wash that taste out of my mouth.
Nah, Pegg is such a hypocrite! You want an example: he voiced a character in The Clone Wars. Yep, when there’s money involved, he’s quick to change his tune 😉
As far as opinions go, your opinion on how you feel about the PT is just as much of an opinion as those who are of the opinion that they like the PT. You don’t faze with with your opinions at all and if you want o be a sheep and follow guys like Simon Pegg, go ahead. So this “truth” that you say that Pegg speaks of amounts to nothing more than opinion.
It’s like I tell all PT haters/bashers on the Internet: you are entitled to your own opinion but when you do the following three things that I hate about PT haters/bashers, you have crossed the line:
1) Expressing your opinions yet labeling them as facts.
2) Pushing your opinions onto others.
3) Making people who do like the PT feel bad for liking them.
Adding this as a bonus: assuming that people that like the PT haven’t thought and deduced their opinions through in stating that they like the PT.
You do all three (four actually) of these things, you are a terrible person and your fandom should be called into question.
In the end, whatever you have to tell yourself to make yourself feel better and sleep at night I suppose…
Everything is ok. Don’t worry. You are loved by friends and family. You will get over this hard time in your life. Lots of people like mediocre content and go crazy over it.
You don’t think that I wouldn’t notice your shade-throwing, huh? Well, you’re entitled to your opinions; and that’s all they really are, opinions.
Thank you.
I come to these sites/message boards out of a shared love of all things Star Wars. Even if there are some things I don’t like about SW, far be it for me to go on and on about, or even bring up the object of that dislike.
When a few people decide to spout off about their hatred of the PT, and claim their opinions as fact, it sours my opinion of these sites and such people. Why bring your hatred to something that should be loved?
No Star Wars film (OT or PT) is perfect, but I love each film, warts and all.
Exactly
Hats off to you sir, I believe you have just outlined the reasons why registration to this forum should be introduced.
I loved that he had the stones to speak his mind about the rubbish that was the Prequels.
I’m from the camp that thinks G.Walton Lucas lost his mind some time before RotJ and didn’t get it back till the first draft of Revenge of the Sith. What sucks about THAT film is he listened to Spielberg and a few other hollywood morons who told him to push Anakin’s turn to the third act. It screwed up the pacing and makes the youngling slaughter look even worse and I didn’t think THAT was possible.
Read the RotS Novelization…
its WAY better than the film.
Nah, Pegg is such a hypocrite! You want an example: he voiced a character in The Clone Wars. Yep, when there’s money involved, he’s quick to change his tune 😉
In regards to the pacing to ROTS, I think that yeah, the movie does feel kind of rushed but we can’t also slow things down because then people will also complain that it also goes by very slow. Now, some can argue that ROTS could’ve been made a 2-part movie (see the last 2 Harry Potter movies and The Hunger Games’s two-parter Mockingjay movies), after all, there are rumors that ROTS was originally 4 hours long before editing, but then people would complain that making it two parts is a scam and whatnot (people already say that about Mockingjay). Personally, I’m fine that ROTS is around two hours long and overall, despite the quick feeling (which to me it didn’t feel too bad), ROTS is still one of my favorite Star Wars movies (I rank it high up there with ESB as two of my favorite Star Wars movies); it’ll be interesting if in the future, some sort of extended edition for ROTS were to come out and see how these extra and extended scenes would fit in the movie.
With a novel, an author doesn’t feel as restrictive when it comes to length like movies are so he/she can get away with more things and add further detail and depth in scenes compared to what the movies depict; It’s only natural for the novelization of a movie to feel like it has more depth and enhancement in its story than when it is depicted in a movie; I’m willing to bet that it’ll be like this with TFA as well.
This goes the same for the novelizations for all other Star Wars films regarding depth-ness and movie time constraints.
I don’t like the PT, but seriously, people need to move on. I for one fell in love with those characters and that version of the Star Wars world because of The Clone Wars, and so, although I still don’t like the PT, I’m glad they exist. It’s what brought characters like Ahsoka Tano and Assajj Ventress into my life.
And even if you don’t like TCW, it’s simply tedious and boring to keep harping on the PT every chance you get.
The same goes for the PT lovers who accuse those who don’t love those movies of…well, I’ve heard every insult under the sun at this point.
Can’t people just be allowed to have different tastes and move on?
Oh wait, I forgot: it’s the internet…
The problem with many on both sides of the argument is that they insist that their own opinions are facts. Some refuse to acknowledge that the opinions of others are just as valid as their own.
Also, many take the debate way too seriously, and make it way too personal.
That’s the thing, though. Star Wars is personal to many/most of us.
Otherwise why would we even come to these sites?
Coming to share in the love of Star Wars and finding people unnecessarily detracting or going out of their way to detract from the saga creates animosities in me toward those people. All the more so when they point fingers at one part of the saga and ignore that the other part shares many of the same faults as the one they single out.
..and that is why these debates often become uncivil. If we are here it is because we love SW. We need less of the “I’m right and you’re wrong.” We need more respectful conversation.
Isa agree with Tauntaun Binks. The whole-ole tall truth is dat the PT exists, so no matta the argument from’a da PT Barnum bashers asa they will always be personal only opinions. Meesa LOOOOVE ALL SIX FLMS!!! (so far)and am looking forwards to da Force Awakens!
Mark my words: This OT-PT clash will only get worse this December when the PT gets raked over the coals by TFA.
Funny how you state that:
TFA has the potential to make more money than any of the prequels but does that necessarily equate to mean it’ll be a better film? There are lots of films that make a lot of money, yet you still have people stating that they suck (ex: Avatar, Jurassic World, Furious 7, some of the MCU movies, Man of Steel, etc). The prequels themselves made a lot of money yet you still have people stating that they suck and making other fall-back-on “I like to think I know more about movie quality that the average moviegoer” statements like “just because there are movies that make a lot of money do not necessarily mean that they are any good.”
So, what am I trying to say in all of this? That even though it has a good chance in making a lot of money, don’t think for one second that 1) it won’t have it’s detractors (decrying that despite the massive amounts of money, it still sucks) and 2) being that we’re in the age of the Internet, one that is full of social media presence, these detractors will be very vocal and loud.
To add to this: The prequels themselves, box office numbers alone, to today, they still rank pretty high up in all-time North American and Worldwide rankings:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars#Box_office_performance
“To add to this: The prequels themselves, box office numbers alone, to today, they still rank pretty high up in all-time North American and Worldwide rankings:”
How well would the Prequels have done if they didn’t have the Original Trilogy to rely upon for box office success?
“How well would the Prequels have done if they didn’t have the Original Trilogy to rely upon for box office success?”
This question pretty much amounts to a what-if question. I’m not going to think about that because it’s no use in answering a hypothetical regarding some events that already occurred. Things occurred the way they occurred and that is that.
Cop-out response.
Anyone with half a brain knows that a HUGE part of the PT’s success was the Original Trilogy. The established high-quality, well-recognized brand, the hype, the nostalgia and the 16-year wait to get Vader’s backstory gave those crappy films so much more money than they deserved.
The prequels made most of their money from us “OT fanboys” who desperately tried over and over to like them. Let’s see how I can phrase this – to me, they are not just bad Star Wars, but are just bad movies in general, to me. (and just to be clear – TO ME).
I like Clone Wars though. And that’s a fact.
“TFA has the potential to make more money than any of the prequels but does that necessarily equate to mean it’ll be a better film?”
Who said anything about money?
I’m talking about TFA kicking the PT’s ass because it’ll be a much better film with characters that connect well with audiences, a story that’s more engaging and makes more sense and a galaxy that’ll feel infinitely more real and tangible.
Can’t wait! xD
I’m just hoping for a good movie with a good story that looks good. I’m not one of those over-analyzing no-life schmoes like certain Star Wars fans seem to be.
Pillock….
Was a huge ‘Spaced’ fan back in the day. Really pleased for Simon Pegg to have a cameo in TFA. Roll-on December the 18th.
Worst Dengar ever! He was so much cooler when he was a deranged cyborg with a grudge against Han for disfiguring him rather than the lame ass 007 ripoff that the Clone Wars gave us. I know he’s only on the screen for a second or two but it makes much more sense thematically for him to be a grizzled old badass than a suave ladies man. Yet another reason why I’m glad that Lucas is no longer involved with Star Wars.
There is no hope for you.
Funny how you try to rail TCW yet it has such a large following with the majority of the masses.
Hi. I didn’t want to interrupt, but your padded cell is ready.
Simon Pegg does not speak for me, and if you state that he’s the posterboy of what a sci-fi moviefan should be, you’re what’s wrong with movie fandom. He should not represent what a sci-fi movie fan should be and if you think otherwise, well, I have no respect for you.
He probably just likes to watch films that aren’t a huge drag to watch. There were some good things about the PT but they could have been handled much better.
geez, what happens when someone undercooks your egg, do you behead them?
Its not news that Pegg’s no fan of the prequels. Anyone who’s seen SPACED has known for the last 15 years. But he really loves the OT, so focus on that and you might hate him less.
Nah, I still hate him in general, regardless of what his feelings towards the PT are. He’s a talentless director and actor for the most part and acts like he’s a qualified schmuck when he really isn’t much of an actor or a director (and this is me stating this in taking his feelings towards the PT out of the equation).
There’s no need for Pegg to continue to put the PT on blast. It’s over! The PT exhists! It’s now part of SW. We all just need to get used to it and stop smearing GL because the PT wasn’t any good. If were gonna get mad about something, it should be that the OT is still not available in it’s orginal form. Not the PT.
I love all the films, regardless of their flaws (yes, both the PT and the OT have them); and yes, before someone ask if I just blindly like them (i.e. like a sheep), no, I like them based on my own conclusions and deductions on what I viewed. No one is going to change my mind on that regardless of other peoples’ opinions (which are just that, opinions).
Agreed. I didn’t give any of those films expectations, and that worked out for the best. I like all six, but Lucas was his own worst enemy in making the prequels. But, what’s done is done, and I will view this film the same as the others.
The PT hate will never end. It may come and go, but it is here to stay – forever.
And this is why no one takes the PT defenders seriously. “Simon Piss, her der herp.” Real mature. Or is that the problem?
Why do you PT defenders get so butt-hurt and spout unintelligible crap at those who actually know what a good movie is? Is it because you’re immature and that immaturity has blinded you to the point where you will enjoy a film like “Paul Blart: Mall Cop”?
At least when I get upset about a bad movie, I know how to explain why and not get all “Bro, yer just an old-fart Gen-Exer OT lover! You guys are just old and crusty bleh blelele”
The PT defenders are really starting to piss me off. Those movies you like suck – end of story. Stop getting so pissed at the rational people out there that understand that those movies are crap.
“The PT defenders are really starting to piss me off. Those movies you like suck – end of story. Stop getting so pissed at the rational people out there that understand that those movies are crap.”
This is nothing more than your opinion. Funny when you talk about “rational people” when it’s clear from this post that you are an irrational and delisional PT hater/basher. End of story.
And nobody cares about your feelings of getting upset. We’re going to continue pissing you off then just like you and your kind have pissed off Star Wars fans who like the PT too. You people that delusionally think that you are in the majority (but are really in the minority based on various statistics) have been so vocal and loud that now you get a taste of your own medicine. I have a right to express my opinion just as much as you do whether or not they align, and I have a right to agree or disagree with your opinion just as much as you have a right to agree or disagree with mine and there’s no changing that.
“Why do you PT defenders get so butt-hurt and spout unintelligible crap at those who actually know what a good movie is?”
Again, just opinion, but you PT haters like to push your opinions as fact though (even though it’s clear that they’re opinions).
At least when I get upset about a bad movie, I know how to explain why and not get all “Bro, yer just an old-fart Gen-Exer OT lover! You guys are just old and crusty bleh blelele”
1. You haven’t really showed that you can explain and in turn, have truly demonstrated your immaturity with your post.
2. You’ve pretty much doing the same thing that you accuse fans that like the PT of doing.
Outside of Star Wars, it sounds like you have a bad taste in movies. No one that is level-headed should listen to someone like who clearly lacks any credibility and rationality. End of Story.
me too!!!
I’m getting so excited for this movie!!!
Wow. Seriously? Wow. I think I need to get off the internet so I don’t catch your bitterness.
If you don’t like ROTS, there is something seriously wrong with you and your Star Wars fan card should be immediately revoked as you should never be welcomed to join any Star Wars fan circles anymore.
ROTS sucks. If you and others like it, great, but don’t insult the rest of us with your trash comments.
Sorry that the truth hurts and your feelings got hurt. And if it sounds insulting to you and a few others, so be it (because it’s clear that you lack taste).
P.S. My original comment is a fact and it is not up for discussion.
Can we stop acting like children?
I’m starting to like the idea of registering to comment.
Fact: You haven’t stated anything but opinions, stating them as if they were facts just shows how ignorant you really are.
Plenty of reasons not to like ROTS. Bad acting. Bad CGI. Poor villians and drawn out conclusion. Star Wars fans will like what we like and hate what we hate. Me, I love Rebels, OT, and the NJO. Wanna revoke my fan membership, try your luck.
I want everyone to remember how all these people affiliated with JJ’s movie keep saying how GOOD its gonna be and how much BETTER its going to be now that George is out. Because if it SUCKS, I want you all to remember the hype levels that these people are wishing for almost as if JJ is a Godsend. He is far from it.
jj has nothing to do with the prequels GTFO thank you
When I heard that Pegg was playing Jar-Jar’s great grandchild I was floored. So excited, although he is a little fat for a Gungan
I hope there are practical effects in this. Meaning Simon Pegg will have no practical effect on the quality of the movie in any way.
Whenever I hear someone say “that’s just your opinion” I imagine that they were constantly verbally bullied as a child and that was their only defense. They used it so often that they still think the statement has some impact. I hear that statement so much on this site, and I’m embarrassed for the person who uses it.
Well that’s just your opinion…..man
Whether you love or hate the PT, what would you say to JJ if he went “Wanna be in TFA”…no more arguing
Three things i enjoyed about the prequels
1) darth maul
2) Mcgregor as Kenobi
3) natalie portman in attack of the clones.
I hate this guy. Worst actor, and even worst person.
He is a dush.
I dislike him.
Simon Pegg can’t stop trashing the prequels, can’t he? it was so uncalled for
