Yeah it’s fake, especially considering it says BvS which means Batman vs. Superman and there was no Rogue One teaser for Batman vs. Superman.

If you are referring to Rey, then she is almost the exact same character as Anakin or Luke, except just female.

Rey may be naturally gifted at multiple things but she makes mistakes too. She released the Rath tars loose on everyone, she crashed the Falcon into the sand in the beginning, she got caught and was abducted by Kylo, it took her three tries to successfully pull off a weak jedi mind trick, she tapped into the force and used her anger to beat back Kylo. So, she is by far not a perfect hero.

Just thinking about it now, it probably takes a lot of pressure of the Sequel trilogy cast to have these movies being released in the interim periods, in fact, it makes it even more exciting to have such an abundance of characters to follow…thereby reducing the chances of losing interest.

And so begins the yearly grind that Star Wars is becoming. Sure, some movies will be good, some could be bad, but what i’m scared about is that they won’t be memorable, or rewatchable, or even fun! I hope that Rouge One is entertaining, I really do. But there’s a difference between a good movie and a Star Wars movie.

Wait, so it’s not possible for “Rogue” One to be a “good” Star Wars movie?

      • April 7, 2016 at 10:41 am
        Permalink

Of course it is, he’s saying it will probably be entertaining, but, while also hoping for “good”, recognizes that the more of these things they churn out on this yearly schedule, the greater the chance that it will be MERELY “entertaining”.

    • April 7, 2016 at 4:58 am
      Permalink

Good to see you’re going in there with the lowest expectations….

      • April 7, 2016 at 10:45 am
        Permalink

Moving from once every three years to once a year carries very real risks, both on the production side, that quality may take a back seat to release dates and schedule, and from the consumer side that there very well may end up being some fatigue with the franchise. We’re all hoping for the best films possible, but ignoring the risk Disney is taking by putting LFL on this yearly cycle of feature films is naive.

This isn’t even one second of footage and already I think we know the tone and feel of this movie. It looks like everything they have been saying, it looks dark and visceral and gritty. I love the look of the new troopers with the leather shoulder strap too. I dug Godzilla a lot but it had a lot of issues. But one of the issues was not the direction. Gareth Edwards did a masterful job with that movie (outside of ATJ’s astoundingly horrendous performance) and it looks like we are in for a real treat with this too.

    • April 7, 2016 at 7:11 am

Maybe I’m just getting older, but I think this movie is going to be better than The Force Awakens. Mainly because JJ Abrams isn’t around to overcomplicate the story, add to many characters, and tie everything together nonsensically.

    • April 7, 2016 at 5:49 am

What exactly about The Force Awakens didn’t make sense to you? I thought it was a pretty straightforward story.

i don’t think about nonsense IMO but Abrams has done too much, too fast. i love the movie as a part of Star Wars. but the big problem is JJ took the easy way on some things, because of attracting mass people. so he copy-paste the schemes of IV but it’s cool if the Episode 8 and 9 are more elitists but not too much

He had many tasks that needed to be met. He needed to restore the public’s confidence after a prequel trilogy that left a lot of people disappointed. He needed to hand the baton from the classic characters that everyone loved to the next generation, without the new kids being overshadowed by the veterans. He needed to set up a completely new trilogy and decide where it would ultimately end up. The film serves as a bridge between new and old, with familiar elements but with plenty of new things, too. Pleasing fans of a beloved franchise is an insanely difficult thing to do, and, judging by the success both critically and popularly, as well as my own immense enjoyment of the movie, I think he did an awesome job. Now Rian Johnson has the freedom to branch out and explore new ideas now that Abrams has successfully opened the door to a new era in the Star Wars saga.

Thank fuck for you sir, I’ve been trying to explain this a countless number of times but people fail to see that Disney is also a business and Star Wars hasn’t exactly been a big thing in films until now…I will refrain from ranting on.

Well, Star Wars was a big thing in the late 70s early 80s, and pretty big in the late 90s early 2000s. It has only been 10 years since Revenge of the Sith when we got TFA. It was 16 years between Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace. Star Wars at least in my opinion, has always been big in popular culture especially American, but most of the world knows who Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C-3PO are even without having seen the movies. It’s just that forever if you liked Star Wars or star Trek you were kind of seen as the nerdy type. With the rise of popularity of video games, comic book movies, and other traditionally nerdy culture. A lot more people have accepted loving Star Wars as being normal.

As far as the liking until now thing goes, most of the hype and surprise came because nobody thought more Star Wars movies were going to be made. I mean, Lucas has always had an idea that there would be 9 movies to tell the story of generations between Skywalker family the rise and fall of Darth Vader and then the story of his grandchildren, but nobody had any idea that the sequels would actually happen until Disney bought Lucasfilm from George.

“Star Wars hasn’t exactly been a big thing in films until now..” the f man?? are you for real on this one? are you seriously implying that SW was launched into worlwide phenomena by JJ Abrams and that movie he made? cuz if thats the case I think you are beyond saving.. please watch When Star Wars Ruled the World for a little bit of history.

I fell down the stairs as I read this because I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I’ll give you two reasons:
            1. Look at my name.
            2. What website are we using?

I think I’m aware of that my friend. Anyways, what I was saying is that Star Wars hasn’t been big in films until recently i.e. the last film was in 2005 and even then it was met with as much love as the original trilogy so it might not be completely false to say there hasn’t been a Star Wars film since 1983. Jesus mate, sorry for being a dick but when you say stupid shit like that, what else can I do?

Yep, we have to face the fact that in order to restore fan hope, the movie had to be close to what was done before while still being new. I’d have to be blind if I didn’t see the similarites between this and A New Hope, but I think what we ended up with was a fantastic movie.

This will be a Darth Vader movie that I hope explains how he got to become weak enough with the Force to have such an epic but slow-pacing fight with Obi in New Hope. I wonder if he is damaged somehow in a way that he cannot be repaired or that his connection to the Force is severed partially from a battle that takes place in this movie. OMG I so hope Rogue One is a Vader centric story!!!

Hmm. I have very mixed feelings about this project. On the one hand it
is an absolute joy to see the original trilogy aesthetic in full use for
the first time in more than 30 years. But on the other hand it feels a
bit like Rebels. A story that is happening, but that it won’t and can’t
substantially further the overall story of Star Wars, the Skywalker
story, so it can only realy have a limited impact – and, much like
Rebels, is going to be one of this situations where you think “where
were all these characters during the OT if they’re so important?”.

    • April 7, 2016 at 3:58 pm
      Permalink

I disagree, I think it will introduce and further develop characters that have and will play a part in the ST. I think it can and will also give us more of some of our favourite classic OT characters.
