‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Reportedly Eyes June Production Start

Collider is back with a new report on the schedule of the current Star Wars lineup. After saying on Saturday that The Acolyte will be coming out during the summer, they are now claiming that a source close to the production of The Mandalorian & Grogu told them that the film would start filming in the summer — specifically, in June.

If you’ve been following the latest Star Wars online rumors, you may have seen online that Production Weekly had posted a June 17 start date for The Mandalorian & Grogu, which definitely aligns with what Collider is saying. Timing-wise, this also makes sense. There was some speculation recently about the movie kicking off pre-production in February, which would make sense for a June start.

Then there’s the issue of Pedro Pascal’s schedule. This isn’t a super reliable test, since the actor could simply voice the title character and not show up on set at all, but it’d be wise to assume he’d at least try to be on set for a couple of weeks. From reports, we know the actor will be tied up until at least early to mid-June, as he’s lined up The Last of Us season 2 (mid-February through some time in March), Ari Aster’s Eddington (which goes up on March 11 according to Production Weekly too), and he’s currently in negotiations to star in Celine Song’s Materialists, a new rom-com that starts shooting in May. Marvel’s Fantastic Four is apparently going up in late summer/early fall.

A release date has not been set for The Mandalorian and Grogu, though Disney CEO Bob Iger did confirm recently that it will come out in 2026, so if everything goes according to plan, we should have it in our movie theaters by May 22, 2026 — though that definitely seems like a lot of time for post-production.

Besides Pedro Pascal returning, we don’t know of any actors that are coming back for the feature film. Still, we can safely assume that stunt doubles Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder will be donning the suit, and given how season 3 went, Katee Sackhoff coming back as Bo-Katan also seems like a good bet. The question now becomes: Will Carl Weathers’ untimely passing affect the production?
