‘The Acolyte’ Coming Out This Summer According to Reports

A new report from Collider is saying that Leslye Headland’s highly-anticipated Star Wars series The Acolyte will be coming out this summer on Disney Plus.

This isn’t exactly surprising, since this was thought to be the earliest the show could be ready given its May 2023 wrap and the mandatory year-long post-production process. That being said, we suspected The Acolyte would be coming out before Skeleton Crew, which would probably come out in the fall, so if true, this would definitely confirm that speculation.

A trailer for the series was shown at Star Wars Celebration last year, but it will almost certainly not be the one that is eventually released to the public, once Lucasfilm’s marketing gets rolling. Looking at past examples, Obi-Wan Kenobi came out in late May and released its first trailer in early March, around a month after they confirmed the release date. Ahsoka came out in August, and they released the first trailer at Celebration, at the beginning of April. (That could be looked at as an exception, though, since they could have waited a few more weeks if there was no convention.)

Here is the official synopsis of the series, which is set 100 years before The Phantom Menace:

Star Wars: The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

Leslye Headland is the showrunner, executive producer, and one of the directors of The Acolyte. The story is likely to feature mostly all-new characters, with the exception of publishing fan-favorite Vernestra Rwoh, played by Rebecca Henderson (the extent of her role is still unknown). Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae are the leads.
