Wookiees Welcome: Disney Launches Roar for Change Charity Program

Are you a walking carpet? A die-hard fan of Lumpy? Do you sound like a disgruntled Wookiee when the alarm goes off in the morning? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Disney wants to hear from you – for a good cause!

This morning, Lucasfilm and Star Wars: Force for Change announced a new charity program encouraging fans around the globe to share their best Chewbacca roar across social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. For every public post, like, or share that includes #RoarForChange between May 3-25, the charity will donate $1 to support UNICEF, an initiative fighting to end global malnutrition and save the lives of children all over the world. Since its launch in 2014, Force for Change has raised over $16 million to date in an effort to give children a chance at a brighter future.

If your battle cry errs more on the side of Ewok than Wookiee, you can take a page out of Chewbacca Mom’s book and use the electronic Hasbro mask or take advantage of the Dubsmash featured on the the app’s homepage.

In a video announcing Roar for Change, the cast and crew let us in on a big secret about Kashyyyk’s golden boy: he’s “a complete diva”. “The problem with him is, in his eyes, this is his movie. So he’s become a little bit big for his boots” jokes saga veteran Warwick Davis over clips of Chewbacca getting groomed, lying around and issuing a customer complaint at craft services. Hey, the guy got snubbed for a medal on Yavin 4 – he’s certainly earned this.

Remember: it’s not wise to upset a Wookiee so grab your phone, clear your throat, and go give your best UUUUUUR AHHHHRRRR UHRRR AHHHHRRR AAAARGH to #RoarForChange!
