You expected some of the characters to have an interesting backstory after they teased such in TFA. Turns out none of the characters have an interesting backstory. Or a backstory in general. See how clever and smart Raine Johnstone is?

        Phasma does.

You mean that one storm trooper with a slightly different color? Fascinating.

Phasma does have an interesting backstory. Check it out in the novel titled Phasma. Aside from Rey how were you teased about anyone’s backstory? Who is Raine Johnstone and what is his backstory?

Riiiight because Rian was surfing the web for fan theories based on comicbook characters when he wrote the script. Or that’s just stuff for us to throw our money away on in between movies and no one at Lucasfilm really cares about it.

I would like to know – Phasma has blasterproof armor, right? So why she gave up, when that clown Finn (yes, clown, watch the scene) was aiming at her in Starkiller base? I mean she is super elite fighter while he is maintenance. She could have crashed him, take his blaster and fight with the others. After all, she was well protected….

Because the fact that her armor was made out of Palpatine’s blasterproof Naboo cruiser was not canon until after TFA was released and the Phasma book was written.

Personally I only view what’s in the films as canon. That said, just because she’s in a command position doesn’t mean she is necessarily the best fighter. Like my manager is a good manager but he couldn’t do my job. Maybe she just has good people skills 🙂

I would have loved for her to lock weapons with Finn (slightly winning) saying. “No Wookie will save you now.”

Would have been a nice touch to clear up how easily she went down in TFA. I’d have liked to see her react to the different leadership the FO is about to go through. Side with Hux or Ren? I wish the FO still had someone of worth outside of… Ren.

Double whammy for how survivalist her character could be… if she had sided with Hux. However when Ren orders her to execute him for his incompetence… she does it with no hesitation. Oh the dreams I have 😛

That actually would have been a great idea. After all everyone knows better than to mess with a Wookie.

Your ideas are better than the actual films – and they had the luxury or many months/years developments time, and the “best” heads Lucasfilm could muster – and yet…

    WTF is a “whoop hog?”

    • March 8, 2018 at 3:01 am

im guessing it’s trying to sound similar to something like “womp-rat”, which I suppose is at least attempting to sound star warsy, but it’s still pretty lame.

if not for the whoop hog line, id prefer this version of the scene.

I could even tell what Finn said until I read the comments – yep, you’re spot on – it’s definitely trying to be like a ‘womp rat’ or a ‘gundark’.

The deleted scene might have actually been a nice way to go because it mirrors the Darth Vader comic when the troopers on Darth Vader’s transport learn that he was Anakin Skywalker, and he immediately executes all of them.

There will be “Phasma: A Star Wars story” in the pipeline. Disney will milk the Star Wars cash cow for every last drop. Like
    1. KanjiKlub: A Star Wars Story
    2. Ranthar Trillia Massacre: A Star Wars Story
    3. Sand. It gets everwhere. A Star Wars Story
    4. Jar Jar: A Star Wars Story
    5. Anaikin. (The years between The Phantom Penis and Attack of the Clones). A Star Wars Story

  • March 8, 2018 at 8:16 am

It’s a cool scene, but I get why Rian cut it out/changed it. It basically totally brings the movie to a halt in one of the fastest moving sections where all plot lines run together.
Also, for the people who will undoubtedly complain about the jerky editing. It’s still a rough cut. the scene is not finished.
All that being said, I still think that scene was a great idea and would have made Phasma’s death a little more satisfying, basically lifiting her purpose over Boba Fett’s in the OT 😉

  • March 8, 2018 at 8:37 am

I like the scene, but i get, why they changed it. It basically
brings the movie to a total halt in the middle of the grand finale of
the second act, when all plot lines come together.

I also think a combination of both scenes would be great. i like the
aspect to see the ramifications of Phasma’s actions and her reaction. It
gives her a little bit more depth and would have lifted her over Boba
    Fett in the OT IMO.

But this way, it at least leaves the door open for her to come back (all
f***ed up set for revenge) And I’m one of the believers that she will
    come back 😉

To me, she’s a minor background character, whcih I’m totally fine with – my issue is the hyping of the character in promotions and media before the arrival of THE FORCE AWAKENS – it led us to believe she would be a significant character.

      Sadly she wasn’t.

Perhaps they could begin by stopping to post news about TLJ. They are leaving Solo… well, solo!

You’re not wrong. It almost feels like Disney has given up on Solo before it’s released. This is the problem with releasing movies five months apart. They don’t get the build up and promotion they deserve. Disney’s lack of anything related to Solo is a bit disconcerting.

Now, on saying that. This was how they promoted films in the 80’s. One trailer, little fanfare and then the movie is out. Now it’s a teaser teaser, a teaser, a trailer and 15 tv spots that spoil the movie. Maybe this is a good thing? I don’t know…

They made the right choice. There was no need to revisit the events on Starkiller base and Finn has a better hero moment in the theatrical cut.

No, Finn’s hero moment is knocking Phasma into the pit and ultimately to her death while proudly assuming the mantel of Rebel Scum. Regrettably, that’s immediately followed by BB-8 piloting the legs of an AT-ST but nothing’s perfect.

  • March 8, 2018 at 5:35 pm
    Permalink

Oh boy… this scene is a lot better than what we got in the movie.
It actually ties to tie in with TFA for a change.

I personally would have used Phasma in a totally different way in this movie (She betrayed the first order… make her a runaway, just like Finn! It basically writes itself.), and I still feel that they totally wasted her as a character, but this at least makes her slightly more memorable… But oh… Deleted scene. Man, I really did not like any of the storylines in TLJ. 🙁

  • March 8, 2018 at 6:41 pm

I think the only reason that scene in the movie exists is because they had to put phasma again in the movie by contract, they just dindn’t know what to do with her, with that said, I think the movie version is better, makes more sense.

The gun shots closeups in the deleted scene look like a power rangers scene, the only thing I would keep is the part when Phasma loses the hand, I liked that.

They REALLY need to stop “revealing” things about this TURD of a “film.” They ruined Luke Skywalker and, it’s unforgivable, inexcusable and Un-fixable.
