The Last Jedi Theatrical Poster Revealed!

The poster for The Last Jedi is here ahead of the new trailer!

The official Star Wars Twitter account @StarWars posted the image just minutes ago!

The red theme continues in the middle chapter of the sequel trilogy, an ominous and simple, yet perfect theatrical poster.

It is perfect that Leia is the center, dividing Kylo Ren and Rey, Luke hovering above it all, and our favorite old characters and new protagonists/antagonists to fill it in. It is a bit curious that Snoke isn’t showcased.

Overall this is a fantastic poster, just busy enough, and artistically and symmetrically stunning!

“Balance” definitely seems to be the theme. Very balanced and symmetrical image.

BB-9E made to the poster? Could he actually have a big role or is he there for ‘balance’ purposes?

Probably balance and toy sales. I mean a tauntans made the empire poster. Honestly suprised no porgs on there but I’m glad for it. If I had to guess bb-9e will have have one short but very memorable scene like the traitor stormtrooper.

Fantastic poster. It’s well structured with balanced colours. I always thought the TFA poster was too overloaded but this one I would even hang on my wall if it fit in with the artstyle of my other posters.

Agreed. It was generic and hard to follow. This has a thematic motif in its design and really conveys a lot more of what the movie is going for in tone.

There needs to be a better way to reserve tickets :/ Had everything opened and was queued in 3 browsers and phone and after getting to pick my seats and punch in my card number I got KICKED! Still got opening night tickets but it looks like we’re doing a half day at work and then afternoon drinking / chilling in line till 7 pm. Though I think I remember back for TFA they let us in the theater 3 hours before the film started. My only regret is that I won’t get to see this in IMAX as my first viewing. But the poster looks BOMB. Here’s to another trailer! Haven’t felt this way in 2 years!

If this poster is any indicator of the movie to come, then I feel like we are in good hands. I am going to be honest with you: I HATED TFA’s poster. Too crowded and busy and just was a mess. I could go on on how movie posters, most of them suck.

But this poster is amazing. The great contrast of the blood red and paper white mixed with Luke’s visage makes for such a cool effect. The character shots, a bit stock are aesthetically pleasing and aren’t overcrowding the the poster.

Whoever designed this poster, along with the prior release poster, they deserve a reward and a raise. Overall, call me excited. And I cannot wait for the trailer. 🙂

Also, I LOVE the subtle uses of red and blue on Luke’s face, as if symbolizing his legacy on two sides: Kylo being the Skywalker side of Vader and the blue being Rey the potential hope for the galaxy.

It actually reminds me a lot of ROTJ with the scene with Luke hiding from Vader and we get that amazing shot of the light blue and shadow, representing his decision of light side or dark side.

Yeah, I had something else I had to do and thought I might miss the live airing of the trailer. Then I made it back to the game with 25 seconds left and was glad I hadn’t sat and watched a 3-2 half.

Eh. Kind of a disappointment considering that some of the imagery has been used already in previous promotional material. Plus it feels too much like the TFA poster insofar that everything is cluttered together. Plus being saturated in red doesn’t help either.

Although I do like the poster, I do have to agree that it isn’t as mind-blowing as I was hoping it would be. Feels like a cross between TFA poster and the celebration poster. That said I’d still definitely hang it on my wall with the others

Intriguing to see that Poe is on the right side with the bad guys. Also interesting that Luke and Leia are centered between both factions with Leia wearing a dark silhouette on the side of her face that’s closer to the villains.

yeah we know snoke will have a bigger role in this one, odd that they would omit him from the poster. i just hope it doesn’t mean he will be relegated to a 20 second non speaking part at end of the film. 😉

Raw power, represented all around the film with raw materials (stone, wood, salt). This is a director that have a strong idea of what he’s doing. This film has all the elements to be a great one.

why is Poe in the dark side of the poster?

    • October 10, 2017 at 1:37 pm
      Permalink

Obviously because they couldn’t fit him anywhere to balance things out visually. However, perhaps they should have flipped Poe and Finn. Finn used to be with the FO, and we know he puts on a FO Officer uniform in TLJ, so placing him on the right half would have worked more thematically than Poe.

This poster is quite nice, actually. Pretty bold of them to scrap the classic yellow letters for ‘Star Wars’ on the theatrical release poster, which has never been done before in the saga. Although the overuse of the color red kind of makes me think they are bit desperate to show “look how evil and dark this movie is gonna be! DUH!”.
