UPDATE! New Star Wars: The Last Jedi TV Spot Potentially Reveals A New Line From Luke

Disney Channel just unveiled a short, minute-long look at The Last Jedi that makes use of an abbreviated version of the recent trailer… But with a twist. There’s a little bit of new footage thrown in there, and some dialogue of Luke’s that might just pique your interest…

In the new preview (which is sadly only available in potato-quality right now), there are a few new shots hidden in there – a moment where Poe shifting into maximum overdrive on his X-wing causes BB-8 to comically lean back, a close-up of a very determined Finn as he fights Captain Phasma. But what kicks the preview off is a new line from Luke, presumably to Rey:

“Why are you here?”

We already know that Luke has a handful of questions to Rey when they meet on Ahch-To, and he’s not exactly as welcoming to her as Han was (albeit for completely different – and arguably justified – reasons). But it does seem like Rey’s response in the trailer actually does follow one of Luke’s questions. We’ll be sure to find out more in the months (Only two more to go!) ahead.

UPDATE!

And here’s a version with better quality:

jk = just kidding fyi.. Personally I am tired of the rehash remarks. So what if these films mirror aspects of the original. For those who want different, then the standalone movies will be out there.

Totally agree! I have seen so many SW fans say “TFA is just a rehash of Episode IV!” while they were the ones complaining about the PT being “Too different from the OT”.
Doesn’t sound like they actually know what they want.

    “Why are you here?

I abandoned you in Jakku for a reason!”
I wonder if the Rey Skywalker abandoned by Luke theory is sinking.

How do you know he was talking to Rey?

        Good question!
        Remember TFA trailers:
“The force is strong in my family…”
        Never saw again…
May be is a scene of TLJ and he is talking to Rey.

Exactly. Worth remembering all the potential misdirection evident in the trailer.

I’m on the Rey Skywalker boat since the beginning, yet I don’t see why this sentence mean anything to that matter. The guy is alone in this island with only some weird creatures for years. A Human arrives with his lightsaber. I understand “why are you here?” is a sentence you could say to anyone. Yoda used it when trying to show Luke that he didn’t know anything about him.

        You are totally right.
That sentence doesn´t solve anything, but it seems less likely.

the only unfortunate thing here is that they have provably revealed first Luke sentence! it was nice to keep that as a secret.

Yes, but this can be total misleading stuff.
They know we are looking to any detail in the trailer, and they want to surprise us.

I believe though…and I’m not sure of the last quote but could that be when Rey says I want to know what’s going on and my part in it……or something like that.

The trailer makes it seem like she’s talking to Kylo but she is in her TFA outfit.

In true Star Wars rhyming fashion, that line pretty much echoes the scene in Empire when Luke met Yoda. Except this time around, it will be a whole lot different when we see in how Rey’s training with Luke will unfold.

So I know this won’t happen, but I would love for Rey to join Kylo in some form. Either Snoke Kylo and Rey or Rey and Kylo take over the first order. Then Luke trains Rose and Finn between episode 8 and 9 and he takes them to take on Kylo and Rey or more even numbers Snoke Kylo and Rey, The one thing I find weird in the trailers and even this TV spot is there is still not any Canto Bight stuff shown. Or DJ or Holdo stuff shown. Rian admits that is also a big part of the movie. I personally think some big revelations are going to come out of that storyline. I think putting all the Rey Luke Kylo stuff up front and center is them misleading us like they did with Force Awakens.

If Luke refuses to train Rey upon realizing just how powerful she is. It would be nice to have Kylo take on the challenge and give Rey what she wants. She just wants someone to show her where she belongs dammit!!! Lol

Both going to the Dark Side, killing Snoke and using Luke’s teachings against him. (Nah, Rey will never go bad, she’s Kathy’s female icon for little girls and their dads, she can’t go dark in favor of a good story)

I think Rey will be trained by Luke and the scene with kylo reaching out his hand is to Rey or Luke to try and be redeemed by the light side and they will all go to fight snoke phasma and maybe something they are not showing us. I feel like kylo or Luke will die by the end of this trilogy

      • October 14, 2017 at 5:54 pm

I will go with Kylo reaching his hand out to Leia. The overhead scene in the trailer of Kylo and the stormtroopers parallels both Revenge of the Sith (the order 66 betrayal) and Vader entering Echo base on Hoth. He’s about to claim the spoils of war, which in this case, is taking his mother prisoner back to Snoke’s Star Destroyer.

Yes maybe leia will die by snoke and that will be Kylie breaking point just as Vader watching his son tortured on the verge of death redeemed him.

Something along those lines must be going on in this film. I don’t think she dies in The Last Jedi as she was supposed to have a bigger role in Episode IX, and as far as I’m aware, this movie had no reshoots.

Rey knows the legends, she just doesn’t know the faces. The whole non-verbal interaction between the two of them is that of Rey being surprised to find that the man she knows as her father is actually Luke Skywalker. Kinda makes sense — dual identity is a big thing in Star Wars.
