Never seen this guy, will look over his stuff. While on topic of Youtubers Thor Skywalker is by far the best sequel trilogy theorist out there. He brings up plausible next steps to Last Jedi and does not resort to tin foil dumb fan theories like rey is the daughter of Sidious.

      I like Thor.

I won’t really be speculating on theories, like “Is Snoke Plagueis?” I’m more about using themes to figure out what will happen versus actually caring about *who* people are actually are, if that makes sense.

Gah, I don’t know how to explain it. If you watch my Yoda video that will give you a pretty good clue about what the channel will be like. Broad, theme based analysis and speculation, and now that I’m part of SWNN, some news and rumor videos as well most likely.

      See you around :).

Let’s put it this way. There are some SW YT channels I watch to specifically remind me of what not to become. 🙂

GL did not write the screenplay for Ep.7, so I’m not sure why specific dialog from the movie is being reflected against his previous writings. Does WaywardJedi believe JJ wrote the characters’ dialog to match up with obscure quotes from GL’s life? Things might turn out just like he said, but they may not. Either way, it’s a huge stretch to do this comparison in dialog.

Pablo Hidalgo on the story being used for the sequel trilogy in general: https://twitter.com/pablohidalgo/status/730185746078830592

“George passed the company along to people at LFL to carry forward. LFL is moving his story forward. Rebels is part of that.”

The way the OT was made: George came up with some story ideas, turned it over to filmmakers to write the scripts and shoot the film.

The way the PT was made: George did everything himself. Massive tunnel vision.

ST is being made the same way the PT is being made. George turned over all the story ideas to LFL, LFL recruited the talent. Well, George actually brought JJ and Trevorrow onboard before he said he was leaving, but that’s a separate matter.

Kathleen Kennedy also verified that the story we are getting didn’t make a “wholesale change” from the story George gave them, mostly just some timeline stuff was moved around (likely to age up the characters because Disney was worried about teenage protagonists).

      Source on that: http://www.slashfilm.com/kathleen-kennedy-interview/

But perhaps the most telling clue is that Pablo Hidalgo stated Rey’s background, Snoke’s background, and the First Order were all originally from George’s outlines.

      Source: https://twitter.com/pablohidalgo/status/822477121654165504

Could they have changed all those things 100%? Possibly, but I don’t think they would, per the first Pablo quote I shared and their respect for his vision and the company he created.

Based on all of this, I’d say it’s safe to speculate about the ST from a basis of George’s ideas and life.

GL Wrote *zero* of the screenplay for Ep.7. My statement is correct. All the other stuff about “influence” is silly, and in fact GL stated that the story was nothing like what he envisioned.

I didn’t say he wrote any of the screenplay. I said he wrote the story, then gave the story to LFL. Filmmakers are now writing screenplays with the guidance of the Story Group, if necessary.

Screenplays aren’t the end-all be-all of the story. They are the story converted to something that can be shot into film. The film *becomes* the official story once it’s finalized and released.

“in fact GL stated that the story was nothing like what he envisioned.”

He has not. You will not find a source for this claim. You will find what I brought up, which was his distaste for it’s retro approach. George said they tossed his treatments of Episode VII, which are screenplays… scripts. That is different from the stories he sold them.

The Han Solo and the 2020 Anthology Film are both George Lucas’ stories by the way, confirmed by Pablo Hidalgo as well, in plain terms.

In the announcement of the sale to Disney, Lucas said that Disney bought his stories and that KK is the person he trusted to turn the stories into films.

That announcement was made after the sale, after the contract was read and signed by both parties, etc.

“All the other stuff about “influence” is silly,”

These are words from official members of the Story Group, one of which is the head of Lucasfilm.

KK said they didn’t make a wholesale change to the story. Pablo said Rey’s background was from Lucas’ outlines, as well as Snoke and the FO.

          That’s not “silly.”

No, GL did not write the “story” (whatever that means) either. He wrote a treatment, which is some broad strokes. I don’t need to provide links like an anal retentive dweeb. I read a lot and remember. If you want to go researching what I’m telling you, go right ahead.

And GL did in fact say the story and character directions were nothing like what he envisioned. Deal with it.

He did not. You are lying. The own article you linked says that his blueprint is still a part of the process of making the new films.

Read this and tell me who you think has more control. Rian Johnson or Kathleen Kennedy?

            http://variety.com/2017/film/news/star-wars-han-solo-firing-lord-miller-1202474671/

            Relevant quotes:

“In the case of the Han Solo spinoff shakeup, insiders say that Lord and Miller clashed with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy and writer and executive producer Lawrence Kasdan over their vision for the film and its execution.”

“As Lord and Miller discovered, no filmmaker is more important than the Jedi mythology that lies at the heart of the “Star Wars” universe.”

“As studios have grown more corporate and more dependent on a few major franchises, productions have become more bureaucratic. It’s Kennedy and her team at Lucasfilm who are making most of the major decisions about where to take the “Star Wars” universe,”

“Now, a filmmaker is often brought onto a project after a script has been written and even storyboarded.”

“You keep digging deeper rather than getting out of the hole”

Simply saying it doesn’t make it true.

Again, all that stuff doesn’t have anything to do with the point. GL did not write any part of Episode 7, which negates the point of the video. Boom.

Are you reading my comments at all about the difference between treatments and “the story?”

george didnt come up with some ideas, he came up with the idea “the star wars” and then people helped to materialize his vision and enhance it

Sort of. He always had creative people helping him, but he came up with the bulk of the major story ideas himself. This doesn’t mean he had a masterplan all along, but he had big ideas that changed and evolved over time, arriving with what we are getting now. The evolution continues with LFL and the new filmmakers, but there is still a broad vision being followed.

The PT was almost entirely George, with a good dose of Joseph Campbell thrown in.

Of course, George had his inspirations as well. Japanese Samurai films, John Carpenter, Dune, Valerian, etc. He pulled heavily from all of these things to create something new, which is what all artists do.

Fairly certain that Rey is related to someone we know of. Otherwise why ‘do’ the whole ‘I don’t know who my parents are’ thing in the first place. It’s a rug pull. Plain and simple.

(I’ve no idea who it might be though).
I like the whole build your own family thing, I just don’t buy it.

Nice video, and I 100% agree with its content.

Leading up to the release of TFA, Kennedy said the movie deals with orphans (Rey and Finn).
Rey was born and raised on Jakku. Her parents left it there for their own selfish endeavour. They later died. Rey has never left Jakku before TFA, she refused to leave as she believed her parents would return to her, we see her obsessively marking of the days inside the downed AT-AT. She has never met Han, Leia, or Luke until the events of TFA.

Think they’ll be a force back scene in The Last Jedi that will address her parentage, and show how Maz came into possession of the blue lightsaber.

It’s intriguing to me that there are people who believe Rey’s character is diminished if her DNA wasn’t inherited from Luke. I find three Skywalkers adequate for the ST, one of them on a very dangerous path who needs to be brought back.
