UPDATE! New Russian Rogue One Poster Suggests Movie Will Have PG-13 Rating.

rogue-one

A new Rogue One poster handed out at the Star Wars Comic Con in Russia has a 12+ rating symbol placed upon it – which suggests that like The Force Awakens, the movie will be rated PG-13 when it reaches the United States.

October 1, 2016

A few days ago a Disney rep in Russia revealed that the final Rogue One trailer will be attached to Dr. Strange. Now we have another interesting reveal coming from the same country. Here’s the cool looking poster shared on the Star Wars Russia Instagram page:

В этом году на нашем стенде на #comicconrussia2016 можно получить совершенно уникальный постер фильма “Изгой-один: Звёздные Войны. Истории”, созданный специально для российского комиккона. И, в качестве бонуса, – наклейку на лэптоп. Все, что нужно сделать, – выложить фото с нашего стенда с тэгами #изгойодин и #звездныевойны. Наберёте 20 лайков – получите наклейку, наберёте 50 – и весь набор ваш 😉 #игромир2016

According to the international Motion Picture Rating System the Russian 12+ corresponds to the USA’s PG-13.

Honestly, the rating isn’t really all that surprising, given that 99% of all tent-pole movies these days are given a PG-13 rating or its equivalent in other countries. There had been some concerns when word of reshoots hit that the changes might sanitize the film for a wider range of audiences. But, it would seem by just the rating that the film will be in line with the most recent Star Wars films as both 2005’s Revenge of the Sith and 2015’s The Force Awakens received similar PG-13 ratings. So from a violence perspective, it seems we can expect something in line with those films which is what has been anticipated by most since the beginning anyway.

🙁 Well, wasn’t expecting anything else, but PG-16 would be wonderful.

PG-16 doesn’t exist… You meant R? Having an R rated star wars film is impossible.

Ok, ok i guess it’s an European thing then, usually we have here 3+, 6/7+, 12+, 16+ and 18+ which is like R in the US.

Yeah, here in America we go from 12+ to 18+ (there’s no in-between, really).

yeah. To be honest (I’m European too) many PG-13s are then rated 16 in europe. Inception for example.

He’s saying that it *should* exist, and that this is the kind of movie that the rating should be made for.

Kinda wish we had that rating tho. There are numerous movies that are barely not clean enough for PG-13 that end up being R. And even then many PG-13 films would’ve been R if they hadn’t removed blood in a few shots or cut two swear lines out, because the MPAA rules are so touchy.

Agreed. We definately need a rating system with more granularity. Having PG-13 and R constantly vying with what content goes where and NC-17 being a financial death mark that makes studios push for R. Ideally we could have a rating just be an age range that the movie is geared for, similar to the U.K. Raitings but more finely tuned. This would be way too much to enforce though.

Marvel licensed Deadpool (and the X-men) to Fox. They don’t get much say in those movies.

Yes, and the deal with both Fox and Sony at the time was “As long as you create movies with our characters that make a profit, you get to keep the license.”

This was at a time when Marvel was almost bankrupt. Horrible deals and they continue to sting to this day.

At least Sony is playing ball in sharing Spiderman with Marvel in return for some characters they will get to use in future films.

But Fox refuses to budge on the Fantastic Four and X-Men.

So what does Marvel do? Kill Wolverine and stop making new X-Men characters. Discontinue the Fantastic Four comic.

            Pretty awesome, really.

while x-men probably was straight spite, i think the FF deal was that its a dying brand on and off the screen. marvel put thor on the shelf for a while back in the day for the same reason.

          • October 7, 2016 at 5:06 am
            Permalink

Because an X-Men or Fantastic film could post a profit of ONE dollar and they keep the rights to the characters. Marvel basically sold those properties rather than license them away.

What more, if Marvel creates a new X-Men character? Boom, Fox gets the rights. Even now.

You think Disney, which allows Marvel and Pixar plenty of free rein, would suddenly be giving LFL all their marching orders? That would be rather naive if you did.

I didn’t say they had no say. But they bought them like they did Marvel and Pixar and they don’t really get involved in all the things you might think.

I didn’t say they controlled everything. Of course there is a certain level of autonomy, but the idea that Disney don’t have input, which let’s face it is the idea you’re trying to pretend is the case, is farcical. It’s a business for heaven’s sake.

Just as the idea that they have total control is also farcical. Which most people online pretend like they do.

NO ONE says “Disney” when they mean Marvel. But they do it with LFL all the time.

Nobody said “total control”. You’re putting words into peoples’ mouths.

But they are the parent company and the buck will ultimately stop with them. Therefore they will have influence and input, especially when it comes to anything involving the spending of or making of significant sums of money. That is the contention being advanced. No more, no less.

I not putting any words in anyone’s mouths. Go look at every comment people make and they always imply or outright say that any decision is coming directly from Disney. It’s not hard to see.

No one is arguing they have input.

    Really cool poster. Love it.

Rogue One has a big budget so it has to make money, then pg 13 i guess is the easy way.
On the other hand we have minor movies with small budgets, like “Dredd”, that can be more risky in that way, and if they are really good, again like ” Dredd”, we can enjoy a good film for what it is, the idea of artists who have a vision and they can explain it without restrictions.
I supouse we can enjoy RO as always enjoySW, the ships, characters, robots, planets, troopers with probably great battle scenes.
The level of detail seems huge in RO so i guess we have to sit and enjoy it.
