EA ruins the legacy Lucasarts brought into the gaming world. Who am I kidding, EA ruins everything!

Lucasarts had a mixed legacy, let’s be fair. One mediocre game so far. Lucasarts had plenty of those.

To be fair the ones that were good were just about spectacular. The mediocre ones however, would include a pretty wide range of games quality wise.

There were some great ones, for sure. But they weren’t the first ones. EA was clearly trying to get this out before the movie. The next one will be more telling of the future.

Yes, some of their first games were great ones. Besides, to state it that way invalidates your point more. Both EA and DICE have been making games for decades. This also isn’t their “first one” and should be judged based on the quality of the product presented. As for Lucasarts, Ballblazer their first game was solid. Maniac Mansion was exceptional and still hold up today. The Indiana Jones games were good as was Day of the Tentacle. To say that their first games weren’t great ones is to flat out ignore the legacy that they have.

I didn’t say it was their first game. But it was the done under a massive time crunch to be out before The Force Awakens. And it shows in the quality. As stated previously, the next game from EA will let us know if it will be a series of bad games or not.

And I wasn’t referring solely to Lucasarts games, but to Star War games specifically. We got some great ones, but aside from the original arcade game, it took a bit.

But for every Rogue Squadron, there was a Bounty Hunter. Good and bad

First off, Dice had more than enough time to produce a solid product. They CHOSE to release the game they did and have been vocal about the fact that the games design decisions were intentional to keep it accessible to children. That isn’t a problem due to time crunch, it’s just sh*tty game design and gameplay decisions. They have stated all of this publicly. Making excuses for 2 companies with decades of experience between them is sad. Their first game should have been spectacular, and with the time and effort they spent on flying around the world to look at volcano’s and scan props at LF they could have actually made a decent game if they had tried.

As for the discussion being solely about Star Wars games, nope sorry. You stated

“Lucasarts had a mixed legacy, let’s be fair. One mediocre game so far. Lucasarts had plenty of those.”

Which IS speaking directly about Lucasarts games and not specifically Star Wars. Trying to change the subject to make yourself correct, doesn’t. Even judging strictly star wars games the first few were good. They weren’t sh*tty until the original Playstation era.

Do you really think they CHOSE that or Disney and Lucasfilm imposed it? Part of the deal was likely to release the game before The Force Awakens. It wasn’t an accident. I don’t know what “more than enough time” is, but plenty of video games take a long time and are bad. Battlefront’s main issue is lack of content, which leads back to the time crunch.
I don’t know what decisions they made that were for children, but feel free to enlighten me. I am not defending the game: I thought it was fun, but not really worth the money due to lack of content. (I also despise the Battlefield style of gameplay)
I did say that about Lucasarts, but I was referring specifically to Star Wars games because this was a post about a Star Wars game and the discussion focused on Battlefront. I am not trying to change the subject: I’ve only ever been talking about Star Wars. I will fully admit Manic Mansion and others were fantastic games (but those people didn’t work on the Star Wars games anyway.)
I am not interested in defending EA or DICE. I simply said the game was rushed out and was bad because of that and we should wait for the next game to decide if EA is going to screw it up. Hardly a radical stance that should generate this much pushback.
The first good Star Wars game was likely Super Star Wars for the SNES. The NES games were not good, though the arcade ones were okay (except for Return of the Jedi). Then they had a hell of a run, but when they got the PS1 era, it was hit or miss for a while.

The first good Star Wars game was the ESB game for the Atari 2600. As for the change in subjest, you specifically stated Lucasarts which is a lot more than Star Wars. You also specifically stated “First game” implying that since it was the first SW game that EA or Dice is putting out that excuses the game, which it does not. Battlefield 4 had a similar dev time, and a framework in place that would have translated to SW:BF very well. Instead they half-assed the game focusing on making an easily accessibly arcade game that was more than a rip-off for the price.

It was arguably a step backwards from EVERY SINGLE FPS or 3rd person shooter over the last decade. It was made using design decisions and level design that would have been mediocre at best 15 years ago and extremely outdated even a decade ago. It’s like they wanted so much to differentiate themselves from their premier series that they deliberately removed anything resembling BF4 in the least (which in itself is basically just Battlefront: Military Edition to begin with). Making excuses for them doesn’t help and just tells them,

“Hey, it’s okay to overcharge for a budget title because people are stupid and will pay for it anyway.”

I got a refund on both the game and the season pass from my local gamestop due to the POS they released. Then I got it for Xmas, tried playing it, but every time I try I only find matches on whatever the latest DLC map is and the rest of the game is a wasteland. So basically I HAVE to buy the season pass to do anything other than play against shitty bots, in shitty game modes, with even shittier design decisions. I get what they were trying to do, as they’ve stated plainly that they were trying to attract kids. But they took everything that was Battlefront out of the game.

Stormies and rebels shooting each other is not what makes Battlefront. Playing the battles from the movies and exploring the environments from them is the entire point. In this Battlefront they don’t have movie battlefields at all, anywhere. Endor is close, but it’s most definitely not the area of the planet or bunker from the movie. I’ve seen the Jabba’s Palace map too at my buddies house. It looks fun, but looks more like someones interpretation of Jabba’s Palace rather than the actual thing.

It’s fine if you’re happy with a mediocre game that feels incomplete and never actually gives you the Star Wars movie battle experience. But the original Battlefront games were intended to let you experience those battles, which they did spectacularly. this game looks pretty, but fails to feel like star wars at all, fails to feel like battlefront at all, and doesn’t look to change that anytime soon.

I believe I stated several times I was not happy with the game and didn’t like it. I have no desire to argue over and over with you over a game I care nothing for. I simply said, “Hey, maybe the next game will be better, wait and see before writing EA off.”

            Good day.

You can’t even seem to figure out what conversation you were having to begin with. You went from bringing up LA, to saying that isn’t what you said, to stating that you were actually saying something completely different than what you typed. If you didn’t care to have the conversation why did you start it? Are you just trolling or are you actually not capable of staying on one topic?

And to answer your very first question in your last reply, yes, they did CHOOSE every single design decision as they have STATED SO AND DEFENDED those decisions when the fan-base ripped them apart for it upon the games release. Have you been under a rock or do you just ignore facts that don’t align with your opinions?

No, see, I played the game and then didn’t like it so I traded it in. Then I no longer paid attention to it because I didn’t care and I have a life that isn’t spent obsessing about a game I don’t like and a company I don’t care about.

Anything they said since then I haven’t clicked because I DON’T CARE ABOUT GAMES I DON’T LIKE.

            Try it 🙂

As did I, like I stated. I read what the devs were saying after I traded it because I was wondering if there was a long term plan to actually make it worthwhile. Dice has a history of stellar post-release support so I was hoping that they would actually listen to the fanbase at some point in which case I would consider jumping in since I know a lot of people that play it just because they paid so much, even though it’s shit. So again, if you had no desire to actually discuss any of this, why did you open the article or comment to begin with?

I have a SWtOR addiction. It’s just gonna get worse this week with 4.4’s launch and that sweet Double XP event.

I may actively hate EA but goddamn it I just can’t help playing SWtOR.
