UPDATE! Rumor: Star Wars Battlefront DLC Plans Detailed – FAKE!

Battlefront Expanse

Curious to find out what the Outer RimBespin, and Death Star expansions to Star Wars Battlefront are set to include, and when the exact dates that they will be released on? A recent leak on the official Battlefront forums provide an outline of what to expect in the game’s first three expansions.

From WCCFTech (the site that archived the posts):

‘Outer Rim’

[This expansion] will be released on March 12th, 2016. Fight among the factories of Sullust and battle within Jabba the Hutt’s Palace on tattooine. 2 new game modes will be introduced in this Expansion pack, along with new weapons and abilities.

Invasion: Will be the the largest multiplayer mode in the game. In this 30v30 match, Players will fight as Rebels or Imperials on the outskirts of Sullust. This game mode will be similar to Walker Assault but include more vehicles for the Empire and New Vehicles for the Rebels. The objective for the game is for the Empire to recapture the factories of Sullust that have been overrun by Rebels. The Empire will have 4 on rail AT-AT’s, 2 will be playable at the start of the match with another 2 joining the match based on the rebels ability to defend.

Scramble: In this 12v12 Match, Fight as Rebels and Imperials through the secret passages of Jabba the Hutt’s Palace. This game mode will be introducing new Star Cards and both sides may use traps to fool the enemy. But be careful, Jabba’s Rancor will be hostile to both sides.

Sullust

‘Bespin’

It’s hunt or be hunted in this action-packed experience set in the Cloud City of Bespin. That will be released July 17th, 2016. In this expansion pack, you will see 2 new heroes introduced, Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian. All previous Heroes will still be playable, except for Han Solo. As all game modes are set after Han Solo was frozen in Carbonite.

Bounty Hunt: Play as iconic Bounty hunters in this hunt or be hunted. Locate Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker before [they] escape.

Cloud City

‘Death Star’

That’s no moon! One of the most iconic locations in the Star Wars universe makes its debut in Star Wars Battlefront on November 12th, 2016.

Full details about this expansion are not known to me, as i have not been updated with the chosen pathways. What i do know is that there will be a new game mode that is a space related battle, reenacting the famous destruction of the Death Star as seen in the movie. This expansion pack will support all of the smaller game modes.

Death Stars

Naturally, no details were revealed in regards to the final expansion (which is set for an early 2017 release, and may possibly tie into either Rogue One or Episode VIII). Take these descriptions with a grain of salt, but it does seem to be consistent with what DICE has promised thus far (namely, four new playable heroes and villains and four new modes).

UPDATE!

A community manager from the EA forums debunked the rumors:

What! Only new REBEL Heroes?! That’s bullshit! Bring in more Empire Heroes!

The thing alleges that the “Bounty Hunt” mode will feature more Bounty Hunters than Boba Fett. So if it’s real, then some combination of Bossk, IG-88, and Dengar are likely to be included.

…”All previous Heroes will still be playable, except for Han Solo. As all game modes are set after Han Solo was frozen in Carbonite.”

BOBA FETT WAS DEAD AND PALPATINE NEVER JOINED GROUND TROOPS. I think we’re past caring about canon in Battlefront.
Plus, if you’re gonna go so far as to include Jabba’s Palace as a battleground (a site that never WAS a battleground in the films, aside from the rancor pit), why care about canon at all beyond that?

I agree with Jonipoon, sounds like fanfiction to me.

That all sounds much more legit than “new prequel based costumes for Luke & Leia”. Never bought that for a second and I would’ve been pissed if they had Luke & Leia wearing Anakin & Padme’s costumes.

So the new Hero’s would be Lando and Tarkin? What other Imperials would there be?

An imperial guard would make the best hero.

This is fake (unfortunately). I draw your attention to line 18 of the outer rim expansion “This game mode will be introducing new Star Cards and both sides” Game modes do not have specific star cards, so the singular game mode would not be “introducing new star cards”, the actual DLC will be! Also if you say they will be adding it then my response is, it makes literally no sense, thats not how star cards work, they are in the loadout not the map, it would just break a mechanic in the game.

Doesn’t mean its fake, just means the person doing the leaking has a limited understanding of how the systems work. Every person that works on an AAA game does not have a 100% complete picture of how all the parts fit together.

I suppose if they haven’t played the game THEY MADE then that’s correct. However it is rather specific to add it to a game mode.

Well, exactly. Individual employees working on big games like this don’t generally play the games. They just make the specific content or functionality that they are told to make, and have only a limited view of the rest of the project.

Maybe they should fix the core game before selling DLC?

    • February 6, 2016 at 4:23 pm

Unfortunately, the core game is DLC. The DLC is just content pulled out of the full game to be sold later on. It’s a terrible business practice which is sadly becoming the norm in the video game industry.

No. You can call the game unfinished.

        That’s fair.

But it’s outright stupid to insist that all of the DLC they have slated to release over the next year is finished, sitting on a shelf, and will be sold in increments later.

Makes no sense to horde content they could sell in the immediate future for money they would want, since..

a.) The game did not sell anywhere near as well as expected.
b.) Many customers are dissatisfied with the core game experience and won’t be buying the DLC anyways.
c.) How is it a sound business strategy to have that much content sit and not generate revenue? It’s like producing cars and putting them on a lot and waiting a year to sell them.

        What does that get you?

Very disappointed in SWNN. I remember once that they mentioned that they don’t like to report rumors unless there’s a credible source. Did an anonymous forum user, referencing things that don’t match the actual game, really seem legitimate enough for an article?
