UPDATE! New LEGO Star Wars Series Headed to Disney XD This Summer. First Trailer Revealed!

LEGO Star Wars The Freemaker Adventures

Today Disney announced that LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, an all-new animated series, will be coming to Disney XD this summer! The series will introduce all-new heroes and villains in exciting adventures with many familiar Star Wars characters.

February 11, 2016

This new series will center around the Freemakers:

Aa family of scavengers who build and sell starships from the scoured debris of space battles strewn throughout the galaxy. When their youngest discovers a natural connection with the Force through an ancient artifact – the Kyber Saber – his world is turned upside down, and he and his family are thrown into an epic struggle against the Empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy. Throughout their adventures, the Freemakers explore new worlds, meet new and familiar characters, and learn the true value of what it means to be a family.

In an official statement Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing & entertainment at the LEGO Group, said the following:

“We are very excited to launch for the first time a TV series with Disney XD. The creative team behind ‘The Freemaker Adventures’ is extremely talented, and the series is a great testament to our longstanding and successful partnership with Lucasfilm and Disney. The show masterfully combines the rich heritage of storytelling, great characters, action and adventure in a galaxy far, far away with the creativity, imagination and humor that only LEGO Star Wars can deliver. We are sure fans young and old are going to love the show.”

Carrie Beck, vice president of animation development at Lucasfilm added:

“With ‘The Freemaker Adventures’ we are thrilled to bring all new stories to life that could only be realized in the LEGO Star Wars universe. We are embarking on an unprecedented collaboration that will allow us to extend the narrative experience of the Star Wars saga with the same playful spirit that’s always made LEGO Star Wars so much fun to watch. We are so thankful to have such great partners in the LEGO Group, Disney XD and series developers Bill Motz and Bob Roth.”

So what do you think? Should LEGO Star Wars video game series and the LEGO Star Wars limited series or specials be excited to hear this news? And as Star Wars Rebels season 2 draws to a close in the late spring, will fans of that series cross over to fill their appetites until season 3 of Rebels starts in the fall of the year? Leave your comments down bellow!

Not crazy about this show, but not really bothered by it either. Its just a kids show that probably wont be canon considering the Lego format. If they do try and make it canon in some nebulous way though, well, that I wont be cool with.

I love the concept. It fits especially well in LEGO. I just doubt I’ll enjoy the series, but I’ll watch the pilot before I denounce it entirely.

As a Star Wars fan I think it´s ok. I like the comedy part of the LEGO Star Wars animated series. And young kids will enjoy it as the Rebels series starts to get darker.
As a LEGO fan I think it’s great to have a lot of brand new sets.
As someone who is both of the above I feel so so sorry about my wallet…

I hope they don’t make the Lego Star Wars universe canon, but if it’s just for fun to give the little kiddo’s a few laughs then I’m OK with it.

Lego needs to just stop trying to be in everything. I would much rather see a series set between 6 and 7 then some kiddy crap about made up Lego adventures. All I see now when I’m looking for Star Wars Merch is Lego shit.

In continuity with canon, but… We see bb8 and c3po on adventure together, and c3po has his red arm (which is quickly gone after Starkiller battle)

also come on guys just because it’s lego doesn’t mean it can’t be dark 😉 have you seen ninjago? yes it can be light hearted and silly but it can also be pretty dark to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mag_3tsxkc

I’ll be honest, I’m glad they’re taking steps to be darker, but that’s still some hyper cheesy kid’s stuff.

My son absolutely loves Ninjago. He’s getting antsy cause they haven’t announced season 6 premiere date yet. He’s so paranoid he’s gonna miss it. 🙂 Cartoon shows in general do seem to do a bad job in the promotion area though so I get his concern. I keep promising him I’m keeping my eye on it so he doesn’t miss it.

I love the lego star wars games because they are a satire of the film. Trying to make a semi-serious lego star wars show sounds like an exercise in futility. Glad its not canon.

Love the lego video games, but not interested at all in the shows/ movies. But I guess kids probably like them, so i guess good for them.

IMO, everybody torn up about this show needs to calm down a bit. Doesn’t anybody have kids that are into Lego? My seven-year-old son will eat this stuff up. Granted, I will probably not enjoy it like he will, but then again – it’s not made for me. It’s a kids’ show. And in regards to canon, I thought it was pretty well common knowledge that the Lego universe is its own thing. For ex. – The Yoda Chronicles has a character named Jek-14 that is a sith clone created by Count Dooku. This is not canon in any shape or form. It’s just supposed to be a fun show for kids to let their imaginations run wild (and yes, to boost toy sales).

You are right of course, but then there are nonetheless a whole legion of adults who collect the Lego sets (I’m not one).

Personally, I just feel that if you over-saturate the market with comedy Star Wars it may have an impact on the other stuff since the audience does cross pollinate.

Just looks bad. In fact it looks like the sort of thing they might have come up with while Lucas was in charge.

    The
LEGO things were cute for a while but I think the whole “Star Wars Lego
Comedy” genre has been exhausted now. They should just stick to the
    LEGO sets themselves.
