I think the additions of Gobi and Numa along with Cham is really cool. Numa was the little girl in the Clone Wars that helped clone troopers Waxer and Boil. Gobi was a warrior who fought alongside Cham in the resistance against the separatists. Very much looking forward to this episode.

I think it was intentional to show how nervous he was at meeting Hera’s father. In other words, it was Kanan that made the mistake, not Freddie.

I’d say you’re right. They need to be 1 hour shows. It just seems too…crammed. I’m liking it, but they resolve the issues quite quickly.

I’d say that these episodes are made for children under the age of 13, more or less the 5 to 8 year old range. Saying that, 30 minute blocks are the maximum time limit to keep a child’s attention. We are all star wars fans, so we’re going to watch, read, and examine anything and everything star wars.

Maybe they should do two to three episode arcs then? They do seem a bit rushed.

So if it is all about money, Disney should consider series 13 or above like the movies. I am ok with animation. Ok, they grow the nesxt generation of SW fans but it could be better. A lot better

I agree 100% Kids show or not it’s too short. 22min without commercials don’t cut it. Adding another 20-22 minutes would be so much better.

I hate to admit this – but, they’re losing me with Season 2 of Rebels. I loved the intro episode with Vader. But, it has been all downhill (WAY downhill) from there – in my opinion. I felt the writing was much better in season 1. The stories were much more interesting than they are now. Week after week – I find myself hoping for something interesting. We get week after week of these meaningless stories of paper thin attempts at backstory or character development. The Zeb / Lasott (how do you spell it?) episode was actually decent. but, this last one with the space-squid-whales was ridiculous. How many stories in Clone Wars and Rebels can be fed to us with the message that connecting to Animals is important? I feel like they’re going to give us like 22 episodes per season where 5 or 6 are interesting and worthy additions to the saga story. …and then like 15 or 16 filler stories where they waste time with nonsense. I want to see where Maul fits in. I want to see Vader again. I want to see Sidious/Palpatine. I want to see Tarkin again. I want to see Ahsoka meet her end. I want to see how the Ghost crew either die or bow out of the Rebellion’s story in the Original Trilogy timeline. Let’s get on with this, already, Dave Filloni. Enough messing around. For the sake of the story — if you don’t have several seasons of interesting stories to tell — pack it all into Season 3 and end this thing. You can gear up for a different story in another time frame. Plenty of stories can be told Between Movie Episodes 6 and 7 – for example. But, this should be the story of how the full-on rebellion got going. It started really well and has been sputtering since. These are the events leading into A New Hope. It deserves to be consistently good and stay on-point. We don’t need several episodes of Hera’s background. Same for Sabine and any other character. I don’t want to see this era in Star Wars get milked too far and watered down. Please… I beg.

first; it’s spelled Lasat; Second: I don’t get why everyone gets angry at Filoni, he’s just one of the people running the show; third: actually I’m happy that not all episodes are neccessary, because that makes it easier to make a. full. star wars. marathon. that includes the neccessary episodes and not ALL of them. TCW had too many important episodes and story arcs.

Thank you for clarifying the spelling of that alien species name, professor. In other news, Dave Filloni is the head guy running this show. With Lucas out of the picture, he’s the top dog responsible for the majority of decisions and details chosen for this series. He’s like a head coach and/or a quarterback in football… He’ll get most of the praise when performace is good — and, most of the blame when it’s bad. The nature of the game, my friend. Thirdly — How in God’s name can you say that you’re “happy that not all episodes are necessary”? Marathons be damned, I don’t want Star Wars watered down. You said, “TCW had too many important episodes and story arcs.” Honestly, I fell that this is one of the most ridiculous things anyone could ever say. I want my shows to be about nothing. This isn’t Seinfeld.

Hey, I’m not saying that this show is about nothing, but it’s about isolated events that don’t require to be included in a greater storyline. The concept of hyperspace origin is important to the Star Wars universe, but if you want to see Ezra’s journey all in a row you won’t need to watch all 32 episodes that will exist once season 2 is over, but let’s say.. 15-16. On the other hand, when we see the clone wars, wich is one of my favourite pieces of canon, you need to include almost all the episodes. From another point of view, while story arcs are good, often you must watch 4 episodes in a row to reach the ending of a story, wich makes it go for almost a film’s runtime. This fact just doesn’t allow me to watch TCW episodes often, because I just don’t have the time. It’s the same problem I have with the longer Nolan movies and LOTR, they’re just too long to allow me to see them more often.

Disagree. And, even if it IS a “cartoon show for kids” – it doesn’t mean that they have to create so many “filler” episodes that don’t advance the story. Give me 3 seasons of the fun & interesting stuff – rather than 6 or 7 seasons filled with useless one-off episodes that don’t mean anything in the bigger picture.

Do you remember watching cartoons as a kid? All kids want is some fun and adventure to help ignite their imaginations when they play with toys and video games. You writ , gives 3 seasons…” But if you’re not a ten year old kid, you’re not the person this cartoon is made for. It’s a great show for kids and entertaining enough to keep Mom and Dad’s attention too. Take it for what it is (a saturday morning cartoon for kids) and look forward to Rogue 1 and Episode 8.

Dude, relax, step away from the edge!

Seriously, some of you purists need to consider all things before you comment with you opinions:

      1. It’s on Disney XD, it’s an animated show (thought that doesn’t mean that an adult can’t watch the show and possibly enjoy it)

      2. Being that Lucasfilm is owned by Disney now, decisions on Rebels from stories, budget, designs, structures, etc. are more corporate-based than anything else now. There’s a more rigid top-down nature to Lucasfim now and decisions are made with more caution and that’s something we fans need to acknowledge about in regards to the animation department over at Lucasfilm. Yeah, you can complain about Filoni all you want as to why he isn’t doing what you would like to see but you need to realize that he has people to answer to and take orders from now, and it’s a whole lot more people than it was before Disney bought Lucasfilm that he’s taking orders from now.

      3. This show is suppose to be about 5-8 seasons long (this has been stated various times by Filoni and others). There’s no need to rush it to the point that you want to see it get to as soon as possible if the show is suppose to last that long. Yes, there is ultimately a big picture but that doesn’t mean that it needs to get there so fast.

      4. (which ties into my 3rd point as well). Sure Filoni and Co. can keep bringing in characters from the movies and TCW but that’s not what this show is primarily about. This show is about new characters that we have not heard of before, an addition to the ever-evolving Star Wars universe, so IT HAS TO STAND ON ITS OWN.

      5. You need to understand that there are going to be some things set in the Star Wars universe (with the Star Wars brand on them) set in a certain era that not everyone will like, and that is ok. Not everything can nor will appeal to everyone. It’s just the way it is. Doesn’t matter what the format is (movies, TV shows, books, comics, games), there will be some things made that won’t appeal to everyone.

      6. The decisions as to what stories to present are made in Lucasfilm and within Lucasfilm only. As much as some fans would like, the ideas developed for this show are not going to come from the fans for the most part. They aren’t holding focus groups nor making polls to elicit ideas. Lucasfilm is going to do what it wants, regardless of what fans wish to see. Yeah, sure, every now and then we will see a guest character come into the picture due to high popularity for him/her but ultimately they are going to do what they want. Furthermore, as the old saying goes, “fans don’t know what they want.”

      7. TV shows are not movies. Stop expecting them to be made like movies nor feel like movies.

All this said, you’re entitled to your opinions but make sure that your criticisms are constructive, educational, and well-thought-out with some thought process put into it, not just rants because you’re personally not seeing what you want to see. So please, let’s drop the ego and the sense of self-entitlement and instead just try to enjoy the show and accept it for what it is rather than keep wanting it to be something that you play out in your head canon.

Actualy he has a point. We beg this show to give us some serious plot. It is not kids show. I believe that they know we are watching the show and we are not U12. So, the show has poor elements of story. The only ones that keep the story going are the CW characters. This is a kind of failure for the show. On the other hand, CW was also a kid’s show that developed character way better than the PT. So Rebels could do, but I feel they give us easy-writing stories with no sense (seriously, I dont want to know about the Lassat if it’s only for just one episode). They give us the inquisitors and a plot about force sensitive cheldren and we have to wait a whole season to see the next episode?? Com’ on admit it… If CW is a 7,9 series (IMDb) then rebels should be 6. It has no story arcs. Just a bunch of mambo jumbo and references from what we really loved, the CW. We need to see fightings, betrayals, maybe a love story, excitment…! Not every detail that only a superfan could enjoy. (And, yes I don’t believe that you liked the space whales, or believe that they need a full episode). They should consider better development and a couple of fillers. Go and see CW season 4 and tell me if we can compare the best of seasons 1 & 2. Also compare Seasons 1 and 2 of the two shows…the result is pathetic for Rebels…

Yeah. Either the little girl he’s holding is another of his daughters, she is a random girl or relative and not his daughter, or it is in fact Hera and a female Twi’lek’s skin color can change as they mature. But this one is still up in the air I think.

The embrace has a real father-daughter feel to it and thats what made me think of Hera. The age seems about right too. Also, it was a few years before Rebels so maybe a design change to Hera or maybe it’s not her at all, but wouldn’t it be cool if it were 🙂

Hair color can actually change with age in human beings. Skin color doesn’t. That isn’t even Star Wars, it’s just a fact.

As far as we know, there is no precedent that states or otherwise indicates Twi’leks change their skin color and skin markings as they grow older.

And you want to direct or have input on an actual Star Wars film or production. L O L.

            Jabba The Hutt proves otherwise.

Unlike most people on here, I have zero interest working for the new owners. I have both friends and family who have worked for the Mouse and they had nothing but negative things to say about it, It’s why they have such a high turnover rate in terms of creative types. It’s the entertainment equivalent of Wal-Mart or Apple with equally questionable businesss practices.

Numa was blue as a child and an adult. Not definitive evidence that Twi’leks don’t change color as they age, but actual evidence against your weird suggestion that Luke’s hair color is comparable to the changing of skin pigmentation.

And thanks for your profound response to why you don’t want to work for Disney. I didn’t ask. But that was deep man, and intense.

Anything goes with the new canon. If they want it to be Hera then they’ll just have the story group make up a reason why some change color and others do not. It wouldn’t be the first time they overlooked established universe rules in order to shoehorn something into the continuity.

How deep down the rabbit hole do you want to get into with the debate that this series has brought since its inception? The comparison to Aladin has been there since the show started with Ezra…he’s an awful SW character(my opinion). First, he is not the creation of the SW team, he was conceived by Disney and asked to be developed by Filoni…I’ll stop there unless you want to really get deep into a conversation.

Aaaaaand…that’s where the comparisons end, IMO. I see no similarities to Aladdin besides the initial creation of Ezra’s character. He looks and sounds like Aladdin and was a street urchin. That’s it. Everything else about the story is no more like Aladdin than anything else in the realm of adventure/fantasy.

unfortunately, that’s just the beginning. All Disney characters use the same formula, and this one played well along with the SW formula…Magic Genie=his new mentor Kanon, street urchin to hero in many shapes and forms as he rises to the top..blahhhh…this is going to be to long to even get into on here. If you can’t see that they used a typical stock Disney character and added it to a SW show…do just a little research on the characters and you will see the light that I am shining for you. from flying carpets to flying whales….LOL!

First off, Disney just oversees what Lucasfilm was doing when creating the show, they did not give specifics on how the characters should act. Second, if you don’t like the show then that is your opinion. For me, I love the show. Obviously the tone was brought down so that younger children can watch it, but the feeling of Star Wars was never lost. However, that does not mean that you have to go around insulting the show and trying to convince others that it is bad. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. It will instead stand as something special for others to enjoy.

Disney had direct input on this show and still do, just because of the impact that they want it to have from their marketing standpoint and the ratings that they are looking for on DisneyXD …I’m not trying to convince anyone of anything. The show stands on it’s on merit and I can share my opinion of dislike as much as people share their approval. Have I done anything to try and convince you…of course not, we all have differing opinions of good and bad.

No, you’re missing the point. Which isn’t surprising.

Kanan is an exact copy of Obi-Wan. A Jedi from another era taking on a young pupil to train in the ways of the Force. It’s complete imitation of the concept you find in ANH.

So, if Kanan in the same role as Obi-Wan is a Magical Genie, I ask again, what does that make Obi-Wan to Luke?

          • February 20, 2016 at 7:19 am
            Permalink

No, Kanan isnt any thing like Obi-Wan and is not a Jedi. Luke is not anything like Ezra either. Don’t try to draw me into similarities. What were Ezra and Alladin both called? Street urchins. …same background. Then along comes this magical or mystical being that inspires him…wow, apparently you’re accustomed to dealing with people that haven’t any knowledge.

          • February 21, 2016 at 2:16 am

Kanan is a Jedi. You can’t say he’s not, and make it so. He uses the Force, was trained by a Jedi Master, speaks to Yoda, and has a light saber he uses effectively in combat. So again, he’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi to Ezra.

I ask again, what is Obi-Wan Kenobi if Kanan, his animated avatar, is a magic genie?

Ezra was never called a street urchin, but a Loth rat. A contemporary to be sure, but that dear sir, is where your comparison ends.

Because he didn’t find a magic lamp and rub it to have a Jedi pop out that then grant him his every wish. Instead, he found a Jedi, impressed him with his abilities, and was tapped to train along side him while being apart of his Rebel cell that was fighting the Empire.

            This compares to Aladdin..How?

You have zero knowledge, and you have no idea what you’re talking about. You’re just another butt hurt purist who can’t get over the fact that Lucas stopped having good ideas after Empire and slowly ruined Star Wars until he gave it to people who stand a much better chance to service the material better than its creator now does.

You get mad because people like Rebels. Do you know why they do? It’s not because they’re worshiping Disney, it’s because they like it. Because Disney made and delivered a decent Star Wars product people have enjoyed the last two years.

Same for Episode VII which I know you think is pooh. That’s fine, you have an opinion, but no one is drinking any Kool Aid (Or as you would put it, Cool Aide), they liked the new movie and it made 2 billion dollars because it was good. Again, Disney delivered a product that people found enjoyable and exceeded their expectations. Was it perfect? No. But if it was widely praised, and you have to deal with the fact that because YOU don’t like something that doesn’t mean everyone else has sacrificed any part of their own integrity by finding Rebels or TFA enjoyable.

This only means that the marketing team did their job. Time will tell if it’s truly liked. Remember that TPM made mad money and every one raved. After a few years that all changed. So let the shine wear off and then let’s see.

It didn’t take years for people to decide they didn’t like TPM.
The effect was immediate. The film also made less than half of what Episode VII made and the marketing wasn’t nearly as thorough as it was for Episode I, either.
You can sit and pray that people won’t like the movie later so you can feel like you were part of an elite group who came to that decision first.
But it’s very hipster of you and the way things currently look people actually enjoyed the flick this time around. Don’t think we have to wait a few years for the truth to come out this time.

Kanan is Ezra’s introduction to the Force, and he’s training him in the same manner Obi Wan trained Luke. Exact same manner. They did it on purpose.
Please clarify how Obi-Wan teaching Luke is nothing like Kanan teaching Ezra. Cite examples instead of just stating over and over again that they’re not the same without proving anything but the ignorance and denial laced through out all your statements here.

For one…Obi-Wan only introduced Luke to the force, give him his father’s saber, trained him for 5 minutes on the Falcon then got killed on the Death Star. Yoda then trained Luke, which his training is nothing like Kanans training. You have watched SW, right? 0 percent like the training Ezra is given by Kanan. Which once again isn’t a Jedi….he had to run while a padawan and never finished no matter how much you want him to be.

Except Kanan was trained by Yoda as all younglings were and he even quotes him directly? The training Kanan is giving Ezra is exactly what he learned as a Padawan at the Jedi Temple prior to the end of the Clone Wars. Jedi Training. I realize Kanan isn’t a Jedi Knight, but he is a Jedi, as in a member of the Jedi order. Even a Padawan is a Jedi by affiliation, if not title.

Kanan is a Jedi, training Ezra in the ways of the Force as he was trained by not one, but TWO Jedi Masters during the days of the Republic.

Hey man, I have some knowledge to lay on you.

            http://www.sirstevesguide.com/2015/04/18/star-wars-rebels-season-two-press-conference/

This is a link to an article from Star Wars celebration Anaheim. IT was this huge event that happened last year in April, in case you didn’t know. I assume you didn’t, since you like to just make things up.

In this article they discuss how Dave Filoni was asked about comparisons of Ezra being made to Aladdin, and he answers said question with a straight up “No”.

Ezra is in fact modeled after Ralph Macchio of Karate Kid fame. And Filoni states there was no intentional connection made with any of the characters to Disney properties.

Now, I know this is going to be hard for you to believe. Because you said you had read somewhere, you didn’t know where because it was three years ago, that Filoni HAD said he modeled Ezra off of Aladdin.

But that got me to thinking. Disney announced Rebels three years ago, in 2013. That’s this article here, from starwars.com:

            http://www.starwars.com/news/new-animated-series-star-wars-rebels-coming-fall-2014

At this point in the game, they hadn’t even mentioned characters. Because you know, they hadn’t been created yet.

            Ezra was unveiled here.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lw-YfJetY18

Note the date. That was roughly two years ago. Not three.

And then it was only last year that the clarification was made that Ezra was not based on the character of Aladdin in any way.

What does this make you, Cw?

Oh. A liar. And a troll.

You sir, have been owned. Thank you, because you were right about one thing, I should have taken the time to look all this up in order to prove what you are, troll.

I said I recognize all the good and bad of SW. Apparently, anything new is good in your eyes…which is your opinion.

There are plenty of bad in the Old EU, OT’s, prequels and even God forbid…TFA. So stop name blasting and open your eyes that not all share your love of everything that YOU like.

I’m a lover of SW once again(A REMINDER TO YOU), and will call BS to what in my opinion is BS. So unfortunately for you, I won’t go away to wherever you think I should go because it’s all SW in the end. Some just way better than others…Now, go grow up a little bit and then come back with an intellectual response.

And some people calling this filler really ?!

These people probably never watched any TV show or seen any true filler.

I could name dozens of show with true fillers in them. Some of them are still good shows.

But Rebels to this episode have maybe one or two episodes which are qualified as filler.
