Rumor: Will Rogue One’s First Teaser Get Attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

star-wars-rogue-one-cast-d23-081515

With a week to go before the release of the film, it’s unsurprising that all the media’s focus on that Star Wars franchise boils down to The Force Awakens. But what if some major news about next year’s Star Wars movie is being suppressed? That’s what a current rumor implies about the forthcoming Anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story!

This rumor comes from Jordan Maison, the editor-in-chief of Cinelinx.

We also got two quotes from Maison when we asked him about this news. When asked about the marketing plan for the movie, he told us this:

Heard marketing has been working on stuff for R1 for a month or so now.

When asked if RO’s teaser was planned to be attached to TFA, he added the following:

I heard that would be the case a few MONTHS ago actually, but not sure if that’s still the plan.

Given that Maison has had a good track record with Star Wars information, the odds that Rogue One‘s teaser may be attached to The Force Awakens (or that it may come out soon afterward) are pretty good. In any case, The Force Awakens is going to be jam-packed with exciting trailers for next year’s high-profile movies, including Star Trek BeyondX-Men: ApocalypseCaptain America: Civil War, and possibly Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice. It seems as though watching all the previews will be nearly as exciting as seeing the movie itself!

My main problem with the mobile one is that it moves/clicks on things too fast (or things I didn’t mean to click on), and is a little confusing. jj has said things in the past like khan not being in into darkness. directly quote a director if they’re a reliable source. clearly he is not, but only because of the interest of preserving the sense of wonder and surprise for the audience. he’s basically trying to make the movie have everything he’d want to see as a fan if it weren’t him directing it.
not saying there’s definitely scenes at the end of TFA. just saying you shouldn’t use JJ as a citeable source honestly. Take everything he says with a margarita cuz there’s a whole lotta salt to down.

Yeah, but lying that there won’t be a post-credit scene means that people will leave before it will show up.

Maybe, but in this day and age you know there’ll be at least one person in each showing around the nation/world with their iphone out recording it when it happens. It’ll be online before the end of the night.
And also people always leave at the end because of that reason. I watched Avengers, Days of Future Past and Ultron opening nights and people left right after. And if its a trailer, yeah it’ll definitnely be online for sure and in good quality by the studio on Friday I’m sure. Its a minute detail that I can’t really see being a major issue for anyone. Why complain about whether or not there’s an end credit scene. We should be reveling in the fact that star wars is opening in 6 days and 3 hours :O The Force is almost ready to get out of bed.

No other Star Wars film has one. For that reason alone I will take JJ at his word here, which was pretty firm: https://youtu.be/8cZUHQTBGBE?t=2117

Not saying it can’t/shouldn’t be debated that “all the scenes” don’t include Episode 8/RO teasers. 🙂 But on that debate I say highly unlikely.

Agreed. This is very “from a certain point of view”. I think this is clever wordplay by JJ. “All the scenes are in the movie” (from TFA) certainly doesn’t rule out a RO scene or trailer.

I like the idea of a low-key Star Wars film which really hasn’t been done since the original. Like the EU, I’m not looking for some summer blockbuster epic that dwarves the saga but something that very nicely compliments it. When all’s said and done I hope this is the definitive bridge between III and IV far as the state of the galaxy and rise of the rebellion.

That’s why I take it so personally when people bash any of the movies, prequels included. It’s like stabbing me, and I know I shouldn’t see it that way. Very emotional, just because something doesn’t mean anything to you or you think it’s terrible, doesn’t mean someone else may have an opposite pov. Doesn’t mean either people are stupid, they just see and feel things differently.

The best thing AOTC gave to the series, albeit overwhelmed by the bad stuff, is Anakin’s commentary on ‘Jedi compassion vs. love’ on the refugee ship. I always thought that was a great theme, a contradiction in the Jedi dogma, that wasn’t explored.

Of course, he goes full creep mode right after…ugh.

Don’t take it personally! If people don’t agree with you, like all things in life, then figure out something you can agree on, or if that doesn’t work change the subject I guess. 🙂

And if you’re talking prequels, I find it hard to find people wiling to crap on the pod racing sequence, jinn/kenobi/maul fight, and generally most of revenge of the sith if you confront them with scenes.

I am not a fan of episode 2, but even then I explain to people that the meat of that film is a murder mystery, and Obi-Wan is (less effective) Columbo. And that tends to give people a pause if nothing else.

But again man, who cares what me or other people think about any of this. Ultimately this movie will be whatever you and the people you want to share it with take away from it, like any other movie. 🙂

Am I the only one who’s annoyed that they are now calling them “a Star Wars story” instead of “Star Wars Anthology”?
Anthology harkens back to Science Fiction’s inception: Buck Rogers, The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, etc.
The “story” moniker sounds more childish like “Toy Story”…
Sorry for the bitching, but I just had to get it off of my chest….

If the title of the film was something like Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, regular filmgoers would be confused and think it was the sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

By putting “Rogue One” first, they establish it as a separate film. “Rogue One: Star Wars Anthology” makes no sense as a title for a film, because “anthology” means “series”. “Rogue One — A Star Wars Story” communicates exactly what they need it to: that it is set in the Star Wars universe but not the same as Star Wars Episode VIII.

You got it right. Anthology doesn’t work for what they’re doing here. A Star Wars story is much more fitting. A Star Wars Anthology Nextflix show would be very interesting, and apart of me thinks thats why they made this switch. I think we get a Star Wars anthology series.

Both you and emkkahn have a good point. I’m torn between your two outlooks.
Anthology is a cooler word though. Every time I hear it I think of my childhood watching “The Beatles Anthology” docu-series with my family. I got good vibes from the word.

Though you’re right, “a Star Wars story” is more clear.

None of this touches the IMPORTANT issue that is, I’m sure, on everyone’s heart:
WILL THERE BE AN OPENING CRAWL?
On one hand, I kind of get annoyed that every. single. star wars game has an overlong crawl. I be like: “an opening crawl?? come on, YOU’RE A GAME, chill, just get me to the part where I button-mash.”
Though the crawl works for actual episodic movies.

Rogue One, however, is in the neutral zone.
Does it deserve The Crawl? And if so, what will be the header? I can’t really imagine the opening crawl going:
        ROGUE ONE
        A STAR WARS STORY

just doesn’t look right, know what I mean?

Actually thinking about this, I realize that having the announcer give a spoken sum-up in TCW was a good move, having the speed and casualness of TV while keeping the basic info exposition — even if the announcer was annoying as hell, it was a smart compromise.

I like that this film could be what a lot pictured the PT to be about in that it’s a direct tie to IV, Has the real start of the Rebellion, and Vader is in his prime. We only got to see the start of The Empire in III but we never really got to see the transistional period where they subjegated the galaxy to the point where their rule was absolute in the OT.

I think Solo will be more about the seedy underworld much like the TV show they were going to mke or 1313.

These spinoffs could be great long as they don’t repeat themselves and do a new genre with each one.

reading throug books I saw that the empire that there was no transitional period after III. Th empire conquered the whole galaxy with that coup seen in ROTS, and the rebellion’s origins are being told partly in star wars: rebels. Rogue One instead would tie chronologically episode IV to rebels. I just hope that they’ll include in rebels hints to rogue one.

Yeah, from what I read Palpatine used the Clone Wars to establish all the bases and slowly bleed local authorities control to the imperial representatives – kind of like the increasing power of the Federal gov’t over the States during and after WWII.

I guess I meant in terms of the PT technology transistion to the ones in the OT. I think Rebels has done a good job of that where it’s more classic than III but still not quite IV yet I still would like to see it on the big screen.

Would be less lazy than rehashing all the old models too from the 70’s and 80’s. They could use a few but I’d make them slightly different.
