New BBC Documentary on The Force Awakens

ReyBBC has a really great documentary on what makes Star Wars one of the most loved and successful franchises of all time. The documentary is 27 minutes long and has interviews with John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, J.J. Abrams and finally Domhnall Gleeson.

From NM-The Secret Of Star:

In the week of release of the latest Star Wars Episode 7, Dev talks to the stars and director of ‘The Force Awakens’, industry experts, and a real-life Jedi to discover what makes Star Wars such a cultural phenomenon.

How does Star Wars’ simple good versus evil storyline echo ancient mythology to connect with people of all ages? How have the films pushed back the boundaries of scale and technical achievement in cinema? How has the series stayed at the forefront of popular culture despite no new film for 10 years and a mixed audience reaction to the more recent ‘prequel’ films? What is it about ‘The Force’ and Jedi that intrigue audiences at such a profound level, even inspiring some people to adopt Jedi-ism as their religion?

In an effort to get closer to ‘The Force’, Dev tries his hand at lightsaber combat training and attempts to experience the power of Jedi mind-tricks with magician Chris Cox. To help him understand the meaning of ‘The Force’ and the religious philosophies of Jedi-ism, Dev spends time with a 23 year old student who lives his life as a Jedi.

Thanks to Peter for spotting the video.

It just dawned on me that Rey could be the first female Jedi we ever seen in a duel before. We’ve seen them fight crappy Battle Droids and use blasters but never one on one with a lightsaber. As Yoda proved, Speed is very important when it comes to dueling due to the saber’s lack of weight and women being smaller on average have that in spades so it would be every interesting to see.

Real people… in real movies. I like Tano a lot… and Ventress but I don’t fault anyone for not including those two when we discus films.

We’ve still never seen a human one. I think even in the The Clone Wars they all been aliens.

Lol at the Jedi on Geonosis. The choreography made them look like they were toddlers with diaper overflow. But there were a few ladies among them

I’m wondering what that classified information is, and why Rey says “me too”.

Note: I think these leaked already (BB8s mission) and don’t want to know until I see the film!

I’m guessing that they cut together that conversation, so it doesn’t really go down like how it seems to in all of these videos.

True that’s the case with many Anlosaxon women from what I have seen. Still, despite that she is still gorgeous and beautiful to look at. Actually, now that I think about it, that big smile and laugh warms my heart a bit. The smile and laugh of a Jedi 😀

True, but that’s what makes her sexy as well as untouchable. She is not sexy in the conventional way, that’s what I like about her but that smile and laugh are larger than life and that’s my kind of woman, the one that smiles and laughs her heart out and the room brightens all of a sudden. Daisy is spot on that mark.

I’m glad Ridley looks athletic enough to pull off her stunt work. There area LOT of unbelievable choices they could have gone with who would have looked as ridiculous as Hayden attempting to act in the PT.
