Career Opportunities Sheet Reveals Details About Visceral’s Star Wars Game.

VisceralThe Star Wars project by Visceral Games has been the subject of a good degree of secrecy for the past year. While there are a few hints that it might be an open-world game about the early days of Han Solo, nothing definitive has popped up… until recently, when a career opportunities sheet outright solidified a few important details about the game itself.

From SuccessFactors:

THE CHALLENGE AHEAD: BRING YOUR SYSTEM GAME DESIGN SKILLS AND SAVVY AND YOUR LOVE OF STAR WARS TO VISCERAL GAMES, EMBRACING AND CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROJECT VISION IN AREAS OF HERO CONTROL/MECHANICS, AI BEHAVIORS, COMBAT/WEAPONS, CLASS DESIGN, SKILLS/PROGRESSION, ENEMY DESIGN, STORY AND BOSS ENCOUNTERS.

Most of the gameplay mechanics for their current project – explicitly described as being the Star Wars title they’ve been working on for over a year – seem to match up with voice actor Nolan North’s statement that the game will be like Uncharted. However, the mention of “class design” seems to suggest that there are multiple playable classes in the game, which would fit the rumors of the game being set in an open-world environment. So with the potential for the game to have an open-world environment – a mechanic commonly used in games like Grand Theft Auto and Saint’s Row – the possibility that the game will involve Han Solo is still present.

On another note, we received more testimony from the guy who told us about the rumor that the game was tied to Han Solo in the first place. He claimed that representatives at Disney (most likely the Lucasfilm Story Group) were present at multiple stages of development and requested certain changes be made to the game’s story as work on the title progressed. Originally, this presence was meant to be just at the beginning of development, but it continued throughout the game’s production. (The game itself is said to be “mostly done” at this point, before more resources were added to the project.) It seems as though this story is important enough to the forthcoming Han Solo movie that the writers want to ensure that there will be no inconsistencies. The source notes that the movie was something that Lucasfilm had planned to make early on, and that he still believes that Visceral’s game will tie into the movie (although it won’t be an adaptation of it).

Special thanks to our friend StarWarsFollower for making this find. For more details about the project, check out his video on the subject, shown below:

I’d like to see an updated Bounty Hunter type game only much better, Probably my favorite of the PT era of games and it very nicely complimented I and II making sense of things that they didn’t bother to explain in the films.

Sounded like that’s what 1313 as going to be but it sounds like they could finally finish the game.

Remember, it’s not confirmed that they’re making 1313 again. All Kathy said was “we really like the concept art and we don’t wanna throw it away”. That could mean anything from “make a new game out of it” to “we’ll just use it for Episode IX and no games or anything”.

I’m trying to remain uncharacteristically optimistic even though Disney is not known for it’s darker takes on things like that looked like it would have been.

Three words to counter that: Daredevil on Netflix. HOLY CROW, that show is dark, as well as Marvel(and therefore Disney)-based.

I should have clarified film-wise as in non-Miramax. I haven’t seen Daredevil yet but love the comics, Did they keep the Karen Page heroin addicted porn star storyline intact?

I’d love to see Star Wars Galaxies 2. It won’t ever happen though, but I’d literally punch a baby for a chance to play a new SWG game.

I’d punch a baby regardless. Stupid babies.

In all seriousness though, if you want a game with the freedom and technicality of SWG, check out SWMUD. It’s got all that, minus the visuals.

Oh come on, where is our current-gen Star Wars came with legit, skill-based, movie-style lightsaber combat?!? It’s now been 11 years since Jedi Academy with no relief from the drought in sight. I really cannot imagine why this seems to be such a problem, there are plenty of realistic sword-fighting games to draw techniques from and it would obviously be a huge seller if it were done right. Plus, a focus on lightsaber combat allows one to construct smaller levels / arenas than what a normal FPS would require, thus allowing more room for flashier graphics. To have the combat of Jedi Academy ported into the version of Frostbite that was used for Battlefront, with the same level of moddability as Jedi Academy, would be an absolute dream come true. It would be a win-win for EA and Lucasfilm…I guarantee you there are more people still playing Jedi Academy after all this time, than will be playing Battlefront after even 5 years. 11-year-old games don’t maintain active modding communities unless there is something truly special about them….and this happens to be the only one in the entire world that I went to the trouble to figure out how to write a utility app for. It was so good in every way and now we’re stuck with Battlefront bunny-hopping being the only way to do lightsaber combat in the current generation??

(none of this is to diss the concept of the game itself, I am sure it will be grand, I just don’t understand why we’re getting a second game centered around non-Force-users before getting any where player characters have access to the iconic skills of Star Wars.)

…Did you totally miss The Force Unleashed? Those games were AWESOME examples of lightsaber/Force combat. Physics-based in its entirety, grabbing Stormies with the Force and chucking them into chasms, slicin’ people (as well as random droids) in two with your customisable saber, and all while under the eyes of Vader and The Emperor.

Sorry, I meant lightsaber-to-lightsaber, Force user-to-Force user combat. Beating up on grunts and machinery as a Force user does not appeal to me.
