A Special First Look at Star Wars: The Force Awakens This Thursday Night on ABC!

Han and FinnWith just a little more than a month to go, the wait is almost over, and the excitement is higher than ever, especially after the surprise international trailer and tv spot dropped a few days ago. Well, apparently Disney has something else up their sleeve…

ABC announced today that it will air a new “special look” at The Force Awakens this Thursday night on TGIT with Shonda Rhimes. Keep in mind that this may just be a deeper look for the masses and nothing new to those of us who have been keeping up with the film’s daily production. However, there is certainly a possibility that some new footage will be aired, so keep your eyes open and tune in this Thursday night to ABC.

J.J. may have promised us no more theatrical trailers, but that apparently has no bearing on the TV campaign. Check out a preview for the special in Rhimes’ tweet below.

Here’s hoping it’s like an expanded comicon reel and is heavier on the behind the scenes with little new footage.

That’s what it sounds like to me. I don’t think they’re going to spend 30-60 minutes spoiling the movie. It’s going to be a more in-depth behind the scenes look with interviews, too.

Can you imagine if they said “oh well, we’ve already sold enough tickets to make our money back at the box office, let’s just put the movie on tv now”?! It would be kind of funny…

Which brings us back to the point… Leia’s force connection vs Han’s reliance on luck and a “good blaster” by his side… Luke showed the same resilience against the force lightning of the Emperor – he never conceded, he maintained faith in the goodness of his father to ultimately save him… herein lies the beauty of STAR WARS…

Perhaps…but we now know in hindsight that there was a bit of retcon going on there.

I think Vader went easier on Leia as he couldn’t kill her due to being a Senator but Han he could care less about since he was a lowly drug smuggler and probably even more pissed off at him for evading capture.

Think of all those idiots who get caught speeding through traffic then get their skull kicked in by the Highway patrol. Times 1000.

Or may I answer my own question… Vader tortured Han to distress Leia and therefore upset Luke via the force… but this would indicate Vader had prior knowledge of Luke and Leia’s relationship… I’ve hit another dead end…

That’s a good theory too. So much going on in the OT that I still haven’t thought of yet. It’s possible he always knew somehow like Leia did that Luke was her Brother. Which would explain why he took his rage out on Han.

I never really gelled with Padme and I’m not sure many would care about her had Natalie not played her or she was not the Mom of Luke and Leia.

Rey I like though from what we know of her and seems like a worthy successor to Leia. Might have to do with Ridley seeming more enthusiastic than Portman ever was about the making of the film as well as taking the role more seriously.

Oh yeah, that is real… (I jest not). I wonder what would have been the outcome if Vader chose to torture Leia in ESB and she was like… “You haven’t experienced child birth, amatuer…” The really strong characters in SW have always been women – TFA is nothing new. ANH ESB ROTJ had Leia dominate as a female, even when she was reduced to a slave. Padme kicked arse as Queen and Senator and Shmi persevered as a single mother providing the best for her child. There has ALWAYS been strong females in SW, why we still need Daisy to parade around in a Red Dress is beyond me…

Yeah, It gets irritating when they mention it since it’s not like Bond or Transformers where they were purely cast for their looks only and were not integral to the plot. Leia had like 5 figures back before toy companies made female ones.

That’s a good question, as to whether or not it is canon. I’m guessing that it’s not anymore, but I don’t think that it ever really was filed under canon anyways officially. I mean hell…half of the original novel itself isn’t even really canon, as it was based on early scripts that changed long before the movie came out.

Still makes for a fun read these days, even if some of it does make you scratch your head a bit here and there.

How about an official Star Wars podcast with new stories every week? The radio show format has been really successful for Doctor Who: why not Star Wars? You can just have stories with original characters, and hire good voice actors to play them, with perhaps occasional cameos from film and TV actors playing their characters. Get on it, Lucasfilm! Podcasts are a very successful medium right now!
