Grant has been a fan of Star Wars for as long as he can remember, having seen every movie on the big screen. When he’s not hard at work with his college studies, he keeps himself busy by reporting on all kinds of Star Wars news for SWNN and general movie news on the sister site, Movie News Net. He served as a frequent commentator on SWNN’s The Resistance Broadcast.
Incredible!!!!!!!!!! Omg I loved that!!!!
John Williams, bless your soul.
They could do a silent Star Wars movie, with only John Williams music (ok, so not quite silent!), and it would be amazing!
oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crikey, that was GREAT! Gonna be hard counting down these last 8 weeks, though…
So was that speaking / voiceover (in order of appearance in the trailer): Rey, Maz & Leia, yeah?
I think Captain Phasma asks “who are you”. I’m not sure Leia spoke?! I better listen again 🙂
Think Leia was the ‘Let it in…’ bit 🙂
Holy crap, I think you might be right!!! I hope so!
The only prob I have is the lack of Luke. There was a lot to be excited about. But I’m mourning Luke.
It’s like JJ is kicking me in the balls.
Relax. You’ll get your fair share of Luke.
I don’t think so. He’ll be part of story, but little screen time.
Isn’t it him patting R2? The absence of Luke must be key to the story…
if my by share, lots of tention building at the end of the first film, maybe… I don’t think he will have a major bit of screen time in the first film … it will be mostly the search for him to save the galaxy from the new threats because he’s the last jedi and they can’t do it without him
I get the feeling they are saving Luke for a major reveal in the third act.
I like the theory luke has a small part in this… this is going to be mostly about the rising new threat, the finding of Luke’s saber and the search for him… him being a recluse because he’s become too strong and doesn’t trust himself because of his father.. who used to be super innocent and good as well.. it makes perfect sense … they seek him out because they need him..
Meh.
This was horrible. I’m suddenly throwing my tickets away and not taking my four year old. (I’ll show him the prequels, though)
Lol!
Then, don’t watch it. If you can…
Lol. You’re an idiot troll if you thought that was bad.
That’s why we have child emancipation laws.
Don’t be a loser. It looks awesome, blending in both modern and classic Star Wars tones. If you really think that it is going to be worse than the prequels you are an utterly wrong.
Sorry Garrett, sarcasm is clearly lost on most of these people! I got the joke, and thought it was quite funny!
That was so intense! Kylo Ren is awesome!
I’m not blown away at all 😐
Don’t know if it’s because I’m half asleep but that was underwhelming.
Maybe you didn’t like it because there was no mumbo jumbo about Trade Routes and planetary taxation disputes.
yes we get it, the prequels were shit.
I felt that way a little bit after the April teaser came out (that’s what you get for watching at 3am!). But the next day, I loved it. That’s why I’m not going to a midnight session – coming nice and fresh in the morning!
Perfection.
The trailer looked great! It was nice to see some of the action sequences, which really look terrific. Also, the shot of Rey exploring the star destroyer wreckage was stunning.
In J.J. we trust
2 shots of The Knights Of Ren , those rumours where true after all
Two? I missed one? I see one broken into two
That was…Kinda Meh. The teasers were more exciting. Fuck. Expectations drastically lowered.
I am glad I don’t know you in person
I liked the second teaser better, too. But this was more about marketing the new characters to mass audiences. We fan boys and fan girls already know about the new characters. That’s probably why it was heavy on action sequences too. But it still looked great. And I’m glad it’s pretty light on plot details.
yes! didnt show anything new really. which is good. i was cautiously optimistic…now im super-cautiously optimistic.
What’s the matter? Not enough Jar Jar Binks or Ani whining creepily about how much he hates sand?
exactly.
wow the Knights of Ren! I wonder if Kylo is the only one to wield a lightsaber since one of them had a blaster.
If you are talking about around the 1:24 mark, I think that is Kylo Ren with some flame troopers and possibly Captain Phasma.
Nah the rain shot..knight on the far right has a blaster and it seems one of them has a saber staff?! THIS TRAILER LEFT ME WITH MORE QUESTIONS!!! Lol
I’m gonna watch this movie.
Epic!! Who was the guy that Kylo was looking at? Kylo seemed to be torturing him…
He was torturing Poe
Doesn’t look like Poe. Looks like Jango
It was Poe.
Poe.
Nevermind. I see it. I was too excited to pay close attention. After 15 views, I see it now. Lol
MAN, thank goodness this is the last trailer. This is more than enough to appease my appetite before heading into the theater to watch this.
SO FANTASTIC.
Luke is too fat for the movie and they have brought in George Lucas to do a CGI Luke.
One things for sure, John Williams is knocking it out of the park…AGAIN.
WAH! there is only one thing that i am kind of bummed about…. I always thought Rey’s staff may be a lightsaber… it is looking less and less likely that that is true. Oh well lol.
Man, i can’t wait to hear the new original themes! WAH!!
Side note: anyone else want to see another dual-bladed lightsaber? Would love to see one in at least one of the new movies. Hyped for the new saber choreography too!
She had a blaster.
Yeah. I just always imagined that maybe her staff was a lightsaber 😛
Dual-bladed light saber is prequal-trilogy nonsense. Stop trying to pollute this movie, which is a love letter to REAL Star Wars fans who grew up with the movies in the 70s and 80s.
You know Kylo Ren has a 3-bladed lightsaber… right? 😛
GTFO with that crap. Every Star Wars trilogy is meant to cater to a new generation of fans, not to you old geezer Gen X’ers with misguided feelings of nostalgia. Star Wars movies are meant for youth and young adults. We don’t live in the late 1970’s/1980’s anymore so stop living in the past.
I’ve seen a couple of your posts on here and I feel that you’re nothing but a troll trying to rile people up.
Kind of reminds Star Trek, looks great, but needs more personality
Loved it!
I can’t shake feeling that even if it’s good..this movie will feel…wrong.
Explain yourself
lol. well even if JJ makes a “good” movie. and the script is ok. i fear it will just feel phoney. contrived. forced(!). like ill be all too aware i’m watching a movie and not get lost in it. I dunno. not really star wars..just … meta-star wars?
just wait – maybe you won’t be disappointed. looks very promising to my eyes.
Kylo Ren has his mask off at the end.
is it just me, or does it look like Rey was crying over Finn’s body?!! That looked like his jacket, and it’s also a snowy scene, which we see him and Kylo fighting in…. Hopefully he’s not injured and they don’t actually shock us by killing him off o.O
Or over Han body.
Another possibility, I thought it was Finn’s jacket, but you could be right there 🙁
Looks like the person lying on the ground has a white ear.
I also thought it kind of looked like Han…
Funny, I thought it was Chewie. Kinda looks furry on the lower right. But I’m sure it’s as vague as they want it to be.
It knda gotta be ONE of them… Seems like it’s the final fight or something in the movie (it’s snowing) and somone’s gonna go. Man, let it be Leia… 😉
Too dark to be F inn’s. Looks more like Ha n’s. Plus you can see Chewie’s fur from his shoulder in the lower right corner.
I agree it’s definitely Finn’s jacket. You can see the sleeve straps,
the arm ribs and the red stripe at the shoulder. And I do believe we
are seeing the side of his face (as his cheeks are rounded). I don’t
know what’s going on with the hair though. Perhaps that’s some kind of
foliage or Chewy is off to the side and we just see a little of his fur
in the shot. I really hope he’s only “mostly dead”, and therefore, can come back after his beat down from Kylo.
Kylo Ren had his mask off when he battles Finn at the end of the trailer….interesting…
Yeah I noticed that too. That and Finn looks like he’s about to get clobbered.
Finn definitely has an O SHIT face going on.
Those X-Wings x Tie-Fighters were the best thing of this decade.
so many crybabies. its disgusting
So many cry babies about those with opinions it’s disgusting. No Luke!
FANTASTIC!!!!!
chewie looks weird. like he’s CG. but i don’t think he is. doesn’t look right. Leia’s hard drinking facelifts will be hard to ignore.
When they are walking towards the place with all the flags(?), you can see the Bounty Hunter symbol
If you were to edit out the ships and lightsabers, I could never guess it was Star Wars.
Darth Vader, solo, Leia, droids, the music…
Of course not.
And the stormtroopers, the unique sounds, the little nods to classic Star Wars like the bounty hunter symbol and arabesh letters… but not too similar for sure
And Han Leia and Chewie and R2D2.
If you were to edit out the ships and lightsabers, it wouldn’t BE Star Wars. I think the movie looks pretty damn good. The knights of Ren look badass, the special effects are top-notch, acting looks great, what’s not to love?
this was everything i hoped for
The poster lowered my expectations, the trailer raised them again!
Oh, man… It’s 4.30 in the morning here in Sweden, and I’m sooo tired – but it was so worth it. Loved it; not too long or too short – and the MUSIC! I havea great feeling about this one. And I guess no one can argue Driver’s Kylo now (if anybody still did)
Most of my friends suspect Kylo Ren is Luke .. I personally do not … is there any reason why that idea is supported unless Luke snapped and decided to continue where his father left off? it makes no sense to me.. doesn’t fit …
Kylo Ren has his mask off and you can see it’s Adam Driver battling Finn at the end
Luke apparently grew about 8 inches and dyed his hair black, and is extremely agile for a 65 year old.
The movie event of the year. That was so epic, I can’t stop smiling when I watch that trailer.
It is overkill to use the classics music score, it was low.
You’re right. They shouldn’t use the themes of the previous movies to tie the films together. Nobody likes John Williams’ music anyways. They should get Nickelback to write a kickass new score.
LOL this post made my day!
Unlike the prequel trailers, which used all music from the OT.
The music of Star Wars is as much a part of the story as the dialogue. It’s awesome they’re using the classic score to connect the two together.
Be angry elsewhere.
Kylo and Rey are Han’s kids.
The Han and Lea love theme is in the song they use.
William’s scores the trailers like he does the movies. JJ Didn’t come up to him and say “Hey put this theme in it.” He just makes the music to match the pictures on the screen.
Don’t see how that’s relevant.
He’s seen the movie.
That doesn’t mean he’s going to compose spoilers into a trailer music piece.
It’s not like people will know. And odds are, the music he’s using are arrangements of scores from the film anyway.
I just cannot get on to any site that sells tickets in the US. WTF?! So pissed right now.
I had issues, but bought them earlier.
I thought here in the US the ticket sales started right after the trailer ended, but they were on sale before? Was there some kind of announcement? Still can’t get into any site.
That’s a bummer you’ll get in! They actually opened it two hours before the trailer hit. Give it a minute you’ll get it!
It looks like just another teaser to me… we still don’t have a clue about the plot and that concerns me greatly. I am still afraid that the Force Awakens could be a movie version of Dark Empire.
You gotta wonder who they are crying over since han is in the scene with leia
Seems like the scene with Han and Leia is earlier? Maybe a reunion after a long time?
If it’s Chewie I’ll be in grief counseling.
Maybe they are saying goodbye to each other before he goes off.
Right…first time hasn’t seen it was him. I hope their some Kylo didn’t die.
Maybe not who but what?
Yay! Han and Leia!! Looks like even if they’re estranged there’s still some deep feelings there. And Rey is crying over…. oh no please let the rumors be wrong; this gal can hope anyway. Is that Carrie’s voice at the end with “just let it in.” ?
It sounds too young for Carrie/Leia? I was thinking maybe Maz Kanata?
Actually, after several more viewings, I think that might be Leia!
Did anyone else notice the Mandalorian symbol on the temple Han is leading Finn and Rey into?
No! Interesting….That’s something the PT never properly mined.
Yes!! Could there also be some be some shredded podracing banner in their too? Could be! This might Maz’s place!!!
“the jedi..all true” well no shit solo they were guardians of the fucking galaxy for a thousand generations! we’re supposed to believe that that fact got somehow lost or hidden? anyone over 50 or 60 would have been there.
Yes
Imperial propaganda?
Imperial officers are mocking the force for being antiquated to Darth Vader’s face in Episode 4.
Well the Jedi were all but extinct in A New Hope, and it’s now 30 years after Return of the Jedi, so a lot of time has passed. And I’m pretty sure Vader/The Emperor would have done a good job of wiping the Jedi from the history books.
Lol. The Emperor and Vader didn’t try to wipe out the Jedi from history. What they did was slander the Jedi and make them look as villains in the eyes of the galaxy at large. This was all but clear in RotS. You don’t wipe out an organization that had been a MAJOR peace-keeping
force in the galaxy for centuries over a couple of decades.
Its the Emperor and Darth Vader.
If anybody could do it, they could.
Not sure about now but for many many years, according to Japanese history books, Pearl Harbor never happened. It’s pretty much the same thing.
That’s a good point actually. Having said that, Tarkin says to Vader in ANH “The Jedi are extinct – you my friend are all that’s left”, while another of the Imperials says to Vader something like “your sad devotion to that ancient religion”, suggesting that no one has seen a Jedi in a long time.
Yes, but not seeing someone in a long time doesn’t mean that said someone didn’t exist. And in both cases, Tarkin and the other Imperial are acknowledging the existence of the Jedi and the Force. What I gather from the OP’s post is that it seems as if both have become nothing but a myth in the galaxy by the time of TFA. Hard to believe, since there must be people still alive who saw the Jedi with their own eyes. It would be much better, IMO, if Rey and/or Finn were rendered speechless by Han when he tells them that he’s the brother in law of Luke Skywalker, last of the Jedi.
You can. And they did. You should watch Rebels where Tarkin is outright denying reports of two Jedi running around on a planet in the Outer Rim. He keeps repeating this to every Imperial that tells him there are Jedi. “There are no Jedi. They’re gone. They’re dead. Forgotten.”
Your Tarkin quote from the cartoon series only helps to prove my point. He didn’t claim that the Jedi never were, which is exactly what wiping or erasing someone from the pages of history means. He merely said that the Jedi were history, which is exactly what Imperial propaganda tried to accomplish. Everyone in the galaxy knew about the Jedi. It’s impossible to wipe out their existence as long as anyone old enough to remember them is still alive, as the OP claimed. And there must still be quite a few people alive from the Clone Wars era by the time of TFA, like von Sydow’s character, for instance.
48 years will have passed since the end of the Clone Wars. That’s a long stretch of time in a place as a big as entire galaxy to forget about things like the Jedi when there were only 10,000 running around and less than a tenth of a percent of the galactic population ever got to see one in person.
And then you know..the Emperor came along and did his best to wipe their existence out completely. Look at North Korea. This shit could happen.
No I agree. That’s like we would forget about ww2. There’s a huge jedi temple in the capital city and probably a lot of documentet material.
It did.
Think before you post, youngling, Han is probably talking to Rey and she has probably been stuck on Jakku all her life with little knowledge of the wider galaxy. She has probably only heard of the Jedi and the Sith in bedtime or fireside stories. To her, they’re the stuff of fairy tales.
Fair enough. No need for condescending sarcasm.
Given the tone of your first post, there was every need. If you’re going to come out swinging and ask questions later, be prepared for a few cuts in return.
You are aware that Han himself didn’t believe the stories 40 years ago…I think we can assume a young girl on a dessert planet in the time period this takes place wouldn’t know too much about it.
That’s true. But ep3 confuses things. Hard to buy no one remember the Jedi purge only 18years before. But yeah both Luke and Rey being isolated … I guess. Be like someone not knowing about ww2. Ok. Sold.
Amazing! Looking forward to the reveal of Luke!
Han solo isn’t suppose to say “It’s true, all of it” in a wondrous look, this isn’t the hobbit, he is suppose to be angry and cynical. JJ didn’t get the star trek characters right, but at least he tried, Lucas gave up completely in the prequels.
You don’t think his experiences with Luke have made him believe in the force? And you don’t think people change over 35 years?
I agree – Han is attempting to covey the wonder he saw with his own eyes. Han was a force skeptic in ANH but by Jedi he believed.
Exactly
And its the strongest part of the trailer! Ford appears to have brought his ‘A’ game.
some people just won’t be pleased with anything.
And some with anything.
Good point, but I’d rather be in the second group.
Do or do not. There is no try.
Abrams has specifically stated that in recent movies, Harrison Fords’ characters were “growly”, and he didn’t want Han Solo to be growly.
Um, its been 30 years. People change during their lifetime.
Han wasn’t always growly He had a few sentimental moments in the original trilogy…
Thirty years later Han Solo may have suffered from some character development.
Han’s character is not going to be the same as it was in the OT he older now probably wiser or just more experienced.
Here’s to hoping that he is cynical / funny in the movie, and that quote is merely a “can’t deny bcuz I lived through it moment” followed by some intriguing dialogue…
Shes crying over chewie you can see the fur and the bandoleer
concur
could be an expensive fur rug she just bought and spilt red wine on the first night?
Man, if that’s so I’m gonna die a little inside… Hm, what if Ray isn’t truely alone on Jakku? What if she’s raised by Chewie, left as a guardian by Han and Leia? She would certanly be sad then, if he’d die..
Who am I kidding: everyone will be sad if Chewie dies
It would be like when the NJO started
That was my thought also. But would they really give that away in the trailer?!
Where was the Rey looking up at the tie fighters shot? Weird
Hm… Chewie’s arm looks bandaged.
Probably got a falcon 4 life tattoo
LOL!!!
I’am disappointed. It does not feel or look like Star Wars.
Soo many lens flares. It looks like Abrams Star Treks.
The first shot of Ep. 3 is a lens flare
It looks like Star Wars. Made by a person who understands action and how to direct actors.
Yeh i know, JJ’s camera work can be a little jarring in the action stuff. Unfortunately it is visually looking like Star Wars in to the darkness/ Star Trek the force awakens. At least there was emotion there.
If your judgement of a movie and its director is based on the amount of lens flares, maybe it’s time that you adopt a new criterion for judging them. Your narrative is six years too old, and most people don’t care anymore. Just saying.
Guys dont feed the troll (Lora). She is a PT apologist and has zero chance of opening her eyes to this movie even if it ended up being the best SW movie off all time. Just let her be.
any spoilers?? or does it give away too much of the story???? I havent watched it yet.
I think I’d describe it as spoiler free. If you trawl through it shot by shot though I’m sure it’s gonna be full of hints!
yes lots of hints but not much story given away that we don’t already know.
It actually does a perfect job – gives very little story away, in my opinion. I was worried about watching it, but decided to watch it and was not disappointed. If you’re worried, watch it with your eyes closed and the sound pumped up to maximum – the John Williams score alone is enough 🙂
the music brought goose bumps … haunting
This is the money shot for me. Leia’s look of utter despair. We’ve not seen her look so despondent since Han was put into carbon freeze.
That’s not Han, is it?
Yes it is. A millisecond before this grab, you see them in totality.
Maybe Chewie bites the dust instead of Han? Or maybe she’s in distress because they are about to go off and battle their own son?
I think I saw something furry at the bottom of the screen in Rey’s dramatic face shot.
It did look like it could be Chewie…. 🙁
We’re all worried about Chewie and Han – especially when surrounded by storm troopers. Maybe this over exposed shot I found will put your worries at rest. I wonder if his legs were cut out from under him and he survives…
Yes, and in the background, it looks like the same snowy forest where Finn confronts K R.
I think this may be a goodbye…. especially given the shot of Rey crying over someone’s body
When I saw the images of her wardrobe fitting, I was saddened when confronted with her utterly detached demeanor and a heartbreaking expression of bewilderment. (To be fair, that pic was probably taken at 7am) However I’m now greatly heartened as this image fairly paints a picture of visceral grief.
Carrie Fisher has still got her acting chops. Just that one damn screengrab proves it.
The Knights of Ren are shown! 1:24ish!
Where the haters at now?!
I am here and I LOVED the fighters scenes. I don’t care about the rest.
Im no hater. I just have expectations that are not being completely met. As in Luke!
If you haven’t figured it out by now, Luke is being kept for the last scene. You will not see him in the marketing. It’s supposed to be a surprise when you finally see him.
I think they are saving him, we’ve heard all along that out of the big three this is going to be Han’s story, so it makes sense that we see him the most.
Lens flare! :50 Lol. Screw the haters, I’m as old school as it gets and this looks good. The actors seem to have brought their A games for sure.
I love that shot immensely!
Screw the nay-sayers. This is beautiful. I think this movie is exactly what I want from a Star Wars sequel.
Fandango is fricken shut down! Lol
I am having sad times right now …
Keep trying, I just got two after an hour!
Knights of Ren 1:24ish!
I can tell this movie is loaded with emotion and character development…I missed that with the prequels. I just hope the story is as good as I hope 🙂
Did it look like the Falcon was going through some sort of new type of hyperspace or something?
Not a new type just a front shot perspective, we’ve only seen ships going into hyperspace from behind in the previous movies.
Mandalorian Banner @ 1:38/39 top center of the screen. Curious what that place is.
Probably Maz’s pirate castle. A bunch of mercenaries and bounty hunters chill there I’m guessing
Honestly it’s appears to be the Resistance base. It would make sense that they display the banners of all the worlds they have volunteers from fighting for their cause.
Could be. For some reason I remember hearing about that droid being at the castle… or maybe I’m just making a connection to those Guvian Enforcers or whatever they were called… Who knows but I’m pumped!
I redact my previous statement, I do believe you’re correct.
That alleged ‘Knights of Ren’ scene has to be the most paused part of the trailer.
Knights of Ren 1:24ish and dead bodies all around
The trailer is of course epic. I had a couple of observations from the trailer; in the battle over the ice you can clearly see a death star-esque trench running through the ice – so I’m presuming this is the starkiller planet.
There seems to be two sky battles; one over the ice and one over the ruins by the sea. I was trying to discern in the explosion near the end of the trailer if that was General Hux being blown to smitherines on the bridge of his ship.
“IT’S TRUE… ALL OF IT… THE DARK SIDE… THE JEDI… THEY’RE REAL.”
HAN FUCKING SOLO
The Force is all but erased from people’s memories in TFA?
The Empire thought they killed all the Jedi and most of the galaxy was raised without knowing what happened in the Republic or the Clone Wars
So he’s gonna be like a Ben Kenobi type character for Finn and Ray? It’s funny how in the first movie he didn’t believe in it at all – “… a lot of simple tricks and nonsense” now in the movie he’s a pure believer. Amazing.
He might have been married to leia for 30 years by now.
Just thinking that same thing
This confirms to me somethings happened to Luke. He’s been away and no one really knows what happened with him and Vader.
https://i.imgflip.com/stgpp.jpg
Knights of Ren seem to be a motley crew of guys using swords, staffs and blasters. Kinda interesting
I’m feeling the Excalibur vibe strong.
Actually the guy in the back almost looks like he’s got a giant cricket bat or club. Definitely makes it look like a distinctive and characterful bunch
I wonder if that is Maz’s voice we hear in the trailer. It doesn’t sound very alien.. pretty much straight forward.
It is.
I thought it was Leia
Rewatched it a zillion times. Rey sheds tears over Han Solo’s shoulder. That’s his leather jacket.
I watched and paused that so many times. At first I thought it was chewbacca but it is in all likelihood Han.
The color of Boyega’s skin: dark.
What said skin color does to small minds: obvious.
Kylo’s voice sounds weird
Yeah if I was to be critical of anything it would be that. Sounds off a little.
I love it!
In a low budget produced 90s cyborg kind of way lol
Satire on point
Join the dark side. Give in to your anger. I can sense your hatred.
Screw the haters, I enjoyed it.
Wow. This is amazing!!!!
There’s a lot of people on this board just looking to enjoy themselves by celebrating Star Wars. Please think before you post – why add negativity into a day of excitement and fun?
Couldn’t have guessed from your tripe that you’d know what culture is.
You Fox News viewers spin yourselves into a tizzy every day, dontcha…
Hey look someone pulling out the “fox news viewer” tripe again. Very original. Bet you think all Republicans hate blacks and want to push granny off a cliff too right? Ever have an original thought?
When Han says Jedi in the trailer, it goes to Finn right on cue.
NO wait…..let me guess….misdirection?
Gothcha.
Yep, I said it all along.
Misdirection
INDIANA REY SCAVENGER <3
Visually, that was out of the ballpark. But the dialogue. “Nothing will stand in our way,” or whatever he said. Stock villain cliches. I know the originals are cheesy in parts but they helped create the cheese that is so stale now when you get lines like that. God help us all if there’s a “Not so fast!” or “Is that the best you can do?”
“Bwa ha ha, I’m Darth Badguy!”
Sorry. I’m sure it will be great. And now we know there’s a scene Finn won’t be sweaty in!
I noticed this as well. But all of the SW movies are written in that arch, cheesy style. What’s going to be annoying is all the Fanboys/Fangrlz bleating that the script is “brilliant” and so much “better” than the prequels blah blah blah…when Kylo Ren basically has the same lines a Darth Maul. Whatevs, Looks cool anyway.
poor poor baby
What is there to really say? It was flipping awesome. I’ve not a single negative thing to say. It’s true… all of it.
“Not a single negative thing to say” – my kind of person 🙂
No Luke? Kiss my ass, JJ. I did NOT like the trailer. Looks like the reboot awakens.
Finn crashing to dessert planet = R2 D2/C3-PO
Finn finding Rey = R2 finding Luke
Han telling Rey and Finn about “legends and myths” = Obi Wan Kenobi
Starkiller Base = Death Star 3
Say what you will about the prequels, but at least they had plots that were different to the original films. Cutting George out completely was the pendulum swinging too far in the other direction. I’ve got a bad feeling about this. Color me disappointed.
Some people you just can’t please I suppose.
Dude…doing a rehash of A New Hope and putting Luke in as a CAMEO in the follow-up to Return Of The Jedi was supposed to make people happy?
You’re almost as out of touch as the filmmakers….
So…you’ve seen the movie?
Don’t need to see a car crash to know it’s a bad idea, princess…
You haven’t even seen the film and you’re already assuming things, huh? Sounds like you’d be disappointed no matter what.
He’s been mad about it for a while. This is the first time I’ll agree with people that his preconceived notions of what Star Wars should EXACTLY be are impossible to meet.
No Luke was always a bad idea. Luke, if anyone, is the only one who really should have come back. I love seeing Han and Leia again, but Star Wars is about Luke. It’s not that hard to figure out…..like acting surprised that someone is mad that there’s no stars and outer space in a Star Wars movie.
Thing is, and I have to remind people all the time……Star Wars is repetitive. Its supposed to be a serial.
How its presented – dialogue, characters, pace, action, visuals – that’s what makes it good or bad. The stories are supposed to be repetitive:
“Get caught, escape, find an ally, escape again, get caught, fight to the death and escape with your life.”
That basically describes every SW movie – except arguably ROTS.
In vague, BROAD terms, maybe. But beat for beat? Nope. Empire isn’t like A New Hope. Even Return Of The Jedi, in spite of re-using the Death Star plot, is vastly different from Empire & A New Hope.
Only because the greater story builds with each movie. Everybody’s always being chased.
This is like saying that because most if not all stories are a struggle of good vs evil to some extent that they’re all the same. You’re going to hurt yourself with all that apologism.
No.
I could apologize for the prequels, but I won’t, cause they sucked.
You’ve apparently decided that it is awesome based off of the same evidence. I’m simply giving my judgment of it based on the evidence at hand, and criticism for it is just as valid as praise in this context……
You can draw upon similar circumstances in all the star wars movies…. hell… in most OTHER movies.
LOL – the apologists are out in droves!
You also seem quite angry…and as well all know. This is the path to the Dark Side.
Good, then dont go see it … Your incessant whining tells me youre cranky cuz its way past your bedtime
Right, because I clearly just wanted to hate the movie and not enjoy it at all.
* rolls eyes *
It’s not the filmmakers’ job to please entitled jackasses.
But it is to make original and creative material. I’m still waiting on that.
Amazing how you have been able to analyze the entire film and give a definite opinion of it after seeing about 5 minutes of it.
You’ve apparently decided that it is awesome based off of the same evidence. I’m simply giving my judgment of it based on the evidence at hand, and criticism for it is just as valid as praise in this context.
Like taking Flash Gordon and relabeling it?
Don’t remember any force in Flash Gordon or lightsabers. Star Wars was different enough from it….this is just “Star Wars” plagiarizing itself.
Majority of the people here and on twitter love the trailer so far. And guys be nice to victor. He has a right to his opinion. And he may be emotionally unstable or mentally ill. The trailer was awesome by the way!!
Is able to detect plagiarism = “unstable & mentally ill”.
The majority of people aren’t very bright, only 2% of society is genius. There’s nothing wrong with me for not agreeing with the majority. Sometimes they’re wrong. The only thing good about this new trailer is that it’s a new trailer.
Exactly. TFA may be good or it may be bad. We’ll have to wait & see. But it’s blatantly obvious by now that the film is ANH v2.0.
Color you a whiner.
Well one less person on Fandango jamming up their servers.
You obviously don’t have the patience or understanding of a movie studio’s decision of building up an audience’s collective curiosity and leaving certain elements out of a trailer. SUSPENSE is the key word here. Will will see him in the theater. Live to love the suspense!
Love the fact that Boyega looks understandably spooked when Kylo brings out the lightsaber and goes all Gladiator on him, I’d be freaked out myself!
Yeah that looked epic! I was so pumped!
Can. Not. Wait. Looks amazing! Daisy, John and Isaac look perfect, and how can you not get a little choked up seeing Han and Leia together? Thank you, George, for creating this awesome universe, and thank you, JJ, Kathleen and Lawrence for expanding and continuing this saga! The action looks spectacular, and I feel like a kid again standing in line in 1977!
The only time in history that many geeks have collectively watched a football game 🙂
Hahaha, totally!
“I’ve got nothing to fight for.”
– Luke (?)
I think it was Finn.
Oh okay, I haven’t heard Boyega’s character yet. Come to think of it, the last time I heard him speak was long ago when I saw Attack the Block. (Great film, by the way!)
Seems to explain why he can fight with a lightsaber. Says that he was raised with only one purpose, and now he has nothing to fight for. Must have been a specially trained warrior trooper or something. Maybe even by Kylo…
Finn
I can be excited and disappointed at the same time.
The excitement is….its real.
The disappointment is….it only lasted 2 minutes lol.
Kind of like the first time….yeah…yeah…
Treating the past as legend… man that really amped it up for me. Han’s line… that is the most I’ve felt out of all the trailers. I mean when you stop and think what Luke did it was pretty amazing… even if it was with his father’s help.
What’s even better is that it juxtaposes what he said on the Falcon all those years ago in the first film – how he thought the Jedi were an old, hokey religion. A myth, in other words. This is the first verbal confirmation we’ve ever received from him that he knows they are most definitely real, and so is the dark side.
This.
So perfect. Han’s the one that’s gotta tell the young’ins about the Jedi. lol
looking forward to reading your analysis starwarsnewsnet! who is saying “who are you?”
Maz
look carefully, when Rey is crying, you can see, in front of her, par of the jacket of Finn (shoulder), so I guess he get killed or badly hurt by Kylo !
Ummm okay fellow Star Wars global community. I am thrilled to see the new footage in this trailer. Incredible is the word I’ll use. Knights of Ren, Rey, Han, Chewie, Leia, aerial battles, etc. And it is unconventional film teasing, no real giveaways shown, etc. I want to see this movie already!!!! Watched the whole first half of my Giants team vs Eagles to catch the TFA trailer 3!!! MTFBWU
Anyone notice that when Ren faces off against Finn his hair is showing without a helmet?
Looks like Jon Snow is back
It could be Poe’s jacket since he has a very similar one (maybe the same one) seen wearing it in the behind the scenes footage.
yes I noticed that
No, that can’t be true. Then he wouldn’t be Luke.
Also the X-Wing blasts at that Tie Fighter at 1:36 sound INCREDIBLE! Honestly sent shivers down my spine
He peeled that fucker apart from the top of its wing until he cored it out. Beautiful. Wedge would be proud.
Who? Finn? I think it’s more likely that Kylo is his son than anyone else.
Those of you criticizing everything about TFA already: Be honest with yourselves, nothing would’ve pleased you anyway. For you it’s the original trilogy with all its ups and downs, and that’s that. The trailer is solid, new characters look good. If you’re looking for Shakespearean dialogue than maybe this is not the movie for you.Sigh, some people just don’t get it. The HATE is too strong in them, sadly.
I don’t think it’s “hate”: they are just crying for attention and this is pretty much the only way they know how.
You two are the whiners. People have a right to their own opinion. I like the PT, OT and I’m looking forward to the ST, but I’m not such a child that I have to attack other peoples opinions because they are different then my own. Grow up!
“People have a right to their own opinion”
That’s what they’re expressing.
Don’t be dim they are bashing people with a different opinion then their own. They are not saying I like the trailer, they are attacking those who don’t like the trailer. Big difference.
We should all be so excited by the new trailer, that verbally bashing fellow fans would be the last thing on our minds. Star Wars is my escape. It astounds me that people find ways to fight over something that’s supposed to be fun.
I wasn’t whining about anything. I merely expressed my conclusion about a certain group of Star Wars fans that are never pleased with anything new about the franchise (such as anything revealed about TFA). And just like those people have “their” opinion (which they repeatedly express all over the internet, so have I expressed mine about them this once. Which I now regret, because God forbid, there would be those of us, who dare to be different. Anyways. Cheers all! Have some faith 🙂
Opinions are supposed to be based on something. Bashing a movie without having seen it, is not “having an opinion”: it’s beein’ a cry-baby, screaming and kicking and trying to make waves.
I hate the PT… I thought half of the Clone Wars series was good. I like Rebels and love the OT. I think this new movie looks out freaking standing.
And for fan boys ANYTHING would be a “masterpiece”. After watching the trailer my anticipated quality of the movie has not changed. I fully expect a very fun and entertaining movie that as a lot of flaws.
I’ll take a Return of the Jedi quality film at this point. For damn sure.
That’s my hope. When JJ got the gig my initial thought was “Disney just wants a three wood down the middle of the fairway”.
Flash forwarded nearly three years later and that initial thought is still the same. I think we’re going to be highly entertained come mid December and will definitely restart the franchise but years from now it won’t be considered a “classic”.
It would please us if you would deal with criticism like an adult and accept that not all humans think alike. I for one don’t really sense the proper Star Wars vibe in this trailer.
The proper Star Wars vibe? You mean the vibe that is different for each and every human being? Oh, ok then.
Exactly that vibe.
And to those of you defending the film through thick & thin: follow your own advice and watch TFA before jumping to conclusions…just like you ask the naysayers to do before complaining.
I haven’t heard anyone complaining. You’re just butthurt that the prequels weren’t any good. At this point, we’ve gone full-circle and it’s the prequel fans who are the whiny ones.
Personally, I hated the prequels, but this movie looks freaking AMAZING.
People are always going to complain, and nothing with satisfy everyone. What matters is that you and I are ok with it.
Kylo Ren’s voice – the way he speaks, actually… sounds so cold and detached, I’m getting kind of a psycopath vibe from it.
yeah sounds like Jigsaw from Saw a bit. I’m a fan!
I just replied to @bad_robot’s tweet:
Dave Olden @dh_olden 1 minute ago
@bad_robot Wow, it was excellent! You can breathe now, JJ.
😉
Not really no.
God at 1:53 Daisey is like “take that bitch!”
It’s been up an hour now, and ONLY “242,148” views?
What’s wrong with people?
Buying tickets.
I’ll admit I only got through the AMC ticketing while the trailer was played, cause everybody stopped to watch. haha, suckers!
You used a mind trick… 😉
Tickets are available here, but I don’t get paid for a few days yet. Sigh.
Knights of Ren in the Rain with Kylo?
That shot with the activated lightsaber in the rain was cool as hell.
I love the whole looking at the OT through a historical/legendary lens. That’s an outstanding tone to take. The light stood up against the dark that day… a lone Jedi in the very heart of the empire. It’s true… all of it.
They are treating Luke perfectly thus far… IMO anyway. Unless Han is referencing something else… which I doubt.
oh wow maybe your right
Jar Jar Binks is back, is Kylo Ren staring at the Vader’s Helmet “Ani! Misa following your steps!!!”
Kylo is actually Jar-Jar.
The greatest JJ trollbox ever!
Anyone notice boba fetts symbol above door Han is walking into?
I got about 4 tweets to me about that lol
I did not… now I’ll just have to watch it again. Oh the horror =D
can you screen shot this for me? I cant seem to see it?
Can’t get tickets…INTERNET!!!
Same here. Fandango is crashed, Movietickets.com, is crashed, my local theaters crashed. Crazy!
I watched it with my granddaughter in my lap and tears rolled down my face! This is going to be so awesome that I can share this with her (even tho so is a bit young for it, but she’s excited!) I just went out & bought 5 IMAX 3D tickets for Thursday Dec 17, 2015 at 7pm! (thats right, a day early mo-fos!)
The trailer confirmed for me that ren is luke.
Clearly, you didn’t watch Adam Driver’s distinctly dark hair when Ren lunges at Finn.
Or the photos of Driver stepping off a shuttle in his black cape with no mask
Who else would have an emotional connection to continue what vadar started? Why would a master force user be constrained by physical appearances? Convinced it is luke.
Han’s son/Vader’s grandson perhaps?
Perhaps but the scene portrayed a much closer connection.
Well, he also seems to be a little off his rocker too lol
Decades later the galaxy is still at war, likely threatening billions of lives. Somebody needs to end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy. The jedi leadership failed to prevent the republicfrom rotting in the prequels, and the sith emperor continued the rot and conflict in the originals, perhaps a new power will end the conflict… in the form of a mixed dark and light new manifestation of the force. Think luke is carrying on what his father verbalized wanting to do, and using one side of the conflict to do so.
SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOILLLLLLLERS CLOSE YOUR EYES IF YOU DON’T WANT TO READ ABOUT THE STATE OF THE GALAXY IN TFA.
No, the galaxy isn’t still at war. There’s a peace between the New Republic and the First Order, an accord that was signed after the Battle of Jakku where the fledgling Rebel government finally put down the Galactic Empire.
The First Order isn’t the Empire, but what became of its remnants. What more, the Resistance is it’s own organization that is preparing to actively fight the First Order because the New Republic is not interested in pursuing another war.
Luke isn’t Kylo Ren.
I just realized! THAT IS why Leia looks so broken-hearted!
She’s just found out what her son has become!
Well, he isn’t.
Dude. He’s a Jedi. Give it up.
Not really the same shape. lol
I don’t understand this theory at all. We’ve seen promo images of Driver as Kylo, we see his hair in the shot where he lunges at Finn. For those of you who buy this theory: what role do you think Driver plays in the film? Why would one of the hottest up-and-coming actors in Hollywood agree to be nothing more than a promotional red herring?
Couldn’t have asked for a better trailer. Great to see Han and Leia embrace one last time. This movie is going to be really emotional. Roll-on the 17th.
That was the shot that hit me hardest. nicely done…. makes me wonder…
That shot reinforces my belief that Rey is their daughter. Hope it turns out to be true as I believe it will be a more interesting story arc than Rey being Luke’s daughter.
Carrie looks like shit. But still exciting to see this though.
shes an old woman! give her a break. she actually looks better than she does in real life lol. Shes not the 20 year old we know from the OT anymore.
Doesn’t it though…they did such an amazing job of keeping a lid on this trailer, one wonders about the spoilers that have been circulating…
The OT mixed serious characters like Luke, Kenobi, Vader and Tarkin with charming characters like Han, Leia and Lando. Everyone looks so serious in this trailer that I wonder if they might lose a bit of the humour.
First valid concern I’ve seen on this thread.
But it seems Poe Dameron is the hot shot, so we’ll see what he adds.
Word is Poe barely in the movie.
Source?
Everywhere. After him and Finn crash land on Jakku, he is not seen until the end of Act III.
Well he’s clearly captured by Kylo. Seems like an important plot piece…a major character captured by the bad guy.
Poe is a major character. He just isn’t it very much. A lot of his screen time for this went to Ford. Poe is an emerging character. He will play a much bigger part in the next two episodes.
Using that logic I could conclude that Han Solo isn’t around when Chewie bites the dust. You’re gonna need to give me something better.
Who says Chewie bites the dust?
Yeah, I get the feeling that Poe might be where the humor comes from.
I agree. What made the OT so magical was that the Big Three never took it seriously and therefore had a tongue in cheek quality to it that made it so magical. The new Big Three seem to think this is Saving Private Ryan.
IMO this will be corrected in Episode VIII. I think a couple emerging characters will be introduce who will be more tongue in cheek and not so serious. Think Peter Quill type.
I’m sure there will be humor in the movie. Humor, though, is very context-dependent: it might be hard to take one of the humorous moments out of the film and make it work in the context of a trailer. Even comedies tend to put the broadest moments of comedy into their trailers to communicate “This is going to be a funny movie.”
Or maybe it’s just the choice they made: to emphasize the epic scope of the movie rather than its lighter moments.
I’m ok with serious… but I don’t disagree with your observation either. Though supposedly in the heat of stuff there is still the banter we know and love. If the rumors are to be believed… and so far they are pretty spot on 😛
Relax. That’s why BB-8 is there for.
A while back John Williams said that he laughed several times while screening the movie to prepare his score. So I believe we will see plenty of the corny humor we love so much from the OT!
That’s good to hear. Assuming he was laughing with the characters…
Agreed. The tone of this trailer was serious. We’ll see sadness, and humor in the film though. They’ve already said that Poe adds some humor to the film, and we know Han is going to have a quip or three.
Have you ever seen Star Trek? JJ puts witty humor in his movies. And Kasdan wrote all of Han’s hilarious lines
While that is a possible concern, all we’ve seen is in the trailers, which are more action-y in general. The charm is likely still in the film itself.
After 30 years Han is more mature and looks like he became from a smuggler and scoundrel to a wise man since it seems like he knows stuff about the Jedi and possibly he got to learn everything about the Clone Wars. Just like Obi Wan tells Luke about his father and the Clone Wars it is likely that Han tells Finn and Rey about it as well (it would be worth to have the Clone Wars mentioned somehow since it was a key point in the Jedi history). I just hope Han hasn’t lost his sense of humor.
Kylo Ren’s a Vader wannabe, even down to the voice.
The voice reminded me too much of Darth Helmut. Lol
That’s the idea
It was very……Disney.
Most amazing thing I’ve ever seen in my life ever! Yes I am pathetic!
my exact words
Really was hoping Rey was a jedi already and Luke had started the Jedi Academy. Really hope this is not a coming of age story. Was really hoping we would pick up in the middle of the action. Not having to watch the whole “I will train you thing”.
I’m starting to think Rey was a Jedi in training… and Finn is also force sensitive. So one needs more than the other. Or Finn with a saber is a total red herring.
Her staff thing sure looks like a lighsaber, maybe two, to me. Maybe she ran away, or went into exhile, or something similar…
well we see whats left of the Jedi academy in that knights of Ren shot, look at all those dead students lying around.
You’d rather come into a new movie series with the Jedi Order completely rebuilt and Jedi running about the galaxy then see Luke Skywalker come full circle in his meeting Obi Wan Kenobi and impart his knowledge to a new generation of students who will go on to rebuild the Order?
I was really hoping I read what you typed wrong.
I would, the whole passing of knowledge so that you can save the galaxy thing has been done already with Luke. Having him not fulfill his destiny and rebuild the order as Yoda had tasked him in doing makes no sense whats so ever (unless they have a good story explaining otherwise) I would have much preferred opening with Rey and Finn, established Jedi Knights on a mission assigned by Grand Master Luke Skywalker, and have this be the start of a new adventure. (similar to Kenobi and Qui Gon in TPM) Perhaps Luke restored the Jedi to be keepers of peace as expected, and something terrible has awakened and needs their help. But no we’re probably going to get “Hey you’re force sensitive, I KNOW! Let me train you so you can take out Vader and the Emperor..I mean Kylo and Snoke…” I can be completely wrong and I am very aware of that, I mean we barley have any info on the film itself, we’re just going to have to wait and see.
Then you’re basically restarting the prequels.
In a way, but the prequel era did have a vast majority of options story wise, so that necessarily wouldn’t be a bad thing.
http://i.imgur.com/DgvE3nU.jpg
lolz. thank you for putting this up!!!!
It’s clear that Luke never rebuilt Jedi order. Why else explain that it’s true.
Agreed, if Han has to explain that the Jedi are not a myth then clearly any atempt to start a new Jedi order failed or went underground without many people hearing of it
Imagine if the Prequels had looked and FELT like this, especially ROTS!
Then they wouldn’t have been as good as they ended up being.
I know right! Opportunity lost there, but now we can make up for it!
Funny story, i was just watching the final act of Phantom Menace after see this trailer, there’s more Star Wars in 2 minute footage of TFA than 2 hours of PM
That was the trailer I was looking for. Absolutely stunning. Was that the Knights of Ren with Kylo? Got my tickets already. I can’t wait.
I dug GOTG and all but the climax was so incoherant. I’m assuming that the climax is going to be the First Order and the Resistance fighting over Starkiller base intercut with Kylo and Finn, just assumption of course. But I love that it looks big and awesome but also very clear and coherant.
Can someone screenshot where the bounty hunter logo is in the scene with Han? Everyone is saying its there but i just cant see it! lol! Am i blind?
In the flags hanging above the door at 1:38. Also… love that droid!
blue flag white logo?
There you go.
You are a gentleman! Thanks mate, chuffed to see the symbol of Mandalore in there!! 🙂
Made a thread listing all the flags ive identified so far:
https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/flags-identified-in-trailer-3.6215/#post-154140
I bet Snoke is pretending to be Vader, and that is why Ren is so obsessed. He says “I will finish what you started” like he was talking to someone.
He’s talking to the dead Sith Lord he honors.
Interesting theory. Anakin did look possessed so maybe the ‘vader’ aspect still lives on in some other form. I know it breaks our thinking of the sith as souless so but..
Dude, he’s talking to an hollow, charred mask, pledging that he will finish what Vader started. Period.
My guess is that Kylo Ren specifically has a cult like fetish with Vader and possibly the stories about the Dark Side that we now know are just considered legends. More specifically I think the Knights of Ren are a Vader/Dark Side cult that literally worship Vader. I think Snoke is the leader of the First Order and that he and Kylo (along with whatever Knights of Ren) have more of a Tarkin/Vader relationship than an Emperor/Vader relationship. Snoke may be a Force user but I think it will be hidden and maybe a secret he’s only shared with Kylo and his little cult. I’m probably wrong by a long shot about most/all of that, but I’d put money on the Knights, and more specifically Kylo, being Vader cultists.
Did anybody else notice that Rey is actually holding a lightsaber in the shot walking up to the dilapidated fortress/castle?
It’s a blaster, actually. Watch frame-by-frame and you’ll see.
You’re right. Thanks for the nice catch.
I wish it was, though. Would confirm my theory she’s the Skywalker. 😛
Also….no Chewie
He’s watching the Falcon. Der.
nope its a blaster , check to shot to the very last frames when it starts to fade, u can see she is holding in in a grip like a blaster ( same one she uses in her close up with that jungle in the background)
Honestly, I imagined this all looking a little different… Having a different tone, etc. but then I though about having that same feeling about my wedding, my son being born… And the way it actually turned out, although different than my imagination, was way better than I could have imagined.
There is an authenticity to this movie already… The future of the Star Wars universe got f-Ed up some how, it wasn’t happily ever after post return of the Jedi, and it desperately needs a new generation of heroes to save it. The unlikely few thrusted into actions are like holy sh*t here we go, got no choice but to figure it out!… Love it.
Rather profound and personal way to look at it. I like it 🙂
Yeah, that’s the vibe I’ve been getting from all the leaks. Totally concur.
I analyzed the trailer, they have hands up,because behind them are stormtroopers, but Poe and X-Wings pilots are coming to save them. And it seems when Rey is crying, that Chewie is on the floor, maybe he is wounded,so that’s why his arm is screwed up like in the scene when they have arms up
Chewie looked dead in that shot.. I know, I don’t like it either but that’s what I saw.
Where are you seeing Chewie in the crying scene?
Yes.
Goosebumps and chills down my spine!
Tickets reserved for December 16th, 21:00 CET, in 3D 🙂
How are you getting it at Dec. 16th
Premiers at 10am on the 16th in most European countries…
France and a few other European countries see it released on the 16th. Personally I have my tickets booked for 00:01 17th December GMT, which is when the first showings are in the U.K.
probably UK.
Norway has a December 16th release 🙂
Nei…. 😉 Jet onsker jet var tilbake I Norge.
not too much Captain Brienne of Tarth in the trailer
Mando symbol top middle.
I love that droid too… this is a great “sense of wonder” shot in the trailer.
Looks like there might have been another flag with it off to the right a bit too
I would have never guessed that a Star Wars flick would cause racists to lose their minds.
Then again, John Boyega is black, so that already is more than racist minds can handle right there. Props to JJ and Lucasfilm for their casting choices.
It’s the new trolling. People know sexism and racism really get’s people going… understandably… but man it’s an annoying new trend amongst the trolls. I miss the days of them just making fun of our hobbies 🙁
dont give them the attention that they so much grave
Thats whats i was thinking…Star Wars can have all the aliens in the galaxy but God forbid if there is one black person, two if you include Luipita (not even going to attempt her last name). Someone claiming it a interracial porn fetticcist…really ?! Thats what the guy out of the trailer? And JJs a hypocrite bc hes married to a white woman? Dumbfounds me ignorant ppl are..you cant fix stupid tho.
Screw those guys. Star Wars has always had black characters. And where would the franchise be without James Earl Jones’ intimidating voice? Ignore ’em. Boyega is going to be an amazing addition to the cast!
I liked the trailer, but I’m struggling to take Rey seriously as a penniless scavenger when she has such perfect diction. Of course that may be a clue to her real origins so not a criticism just an observation.
The voice asking her the question has a similar sceptism..
Agreed. Sounds weird on a backwater like we are given to understand Jaku to be. She sounds like she’s from a core world. But we don’t know who taught her to speak Standard yet. That’s likely where her accent came from. And like Cutress said above, sounds more “estuary” than RP anyway.
Perfect diction in one universe may not be the same in another.
Tell that to grand moff tarkin…
Personally I picked up on her accent being a little ‘Estuarial’ English.
Dude you know nothing about her backstory, how about waiting for the damn film?
I think that is a clue that she may have be raised a scavenger, but her true bloodline is noble…perhaps even Royal?
Just realized this shot is another angle of the Xwings over the water
So many great shots in the trailer…
good eye!
Yeah, I caught that too. Those Stormtroopers are about to get FUCKED UP. Epic setup there.
i cried when the bespin song came up and was on the floor when the powerful version of the force theme is swelling
I got pretty emotional during the whole “It’s true… all of it.”
What amazes me is the music. John Williams completely and amazingly updated his music our year. Incredible.
The city in the clouds theme was really great – emotional hook for sure for this kid of the 80s.
😉
INDIANA ILM VIBES
I LOVE REY
in the shot where the star destroyer’s bridge explode, on the left side, is that Phasma whe gets blown away ? the armour seems chrome
More to the point, was that Bespin cloud city through the window?
KYLO REN IS LIKE BRIAN DE PALMA’S PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE WEIRDNESS
Wow….That’s all I can say. I recommend watching this with some high end audio. It will blow you away! The music has got some serious low end.
Here’s the screens I grabbed if anyone’s interested…
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1076230262387035.1073741831.100000002132268&type=1&l=0245c21d7c
These are brilliant. Thanks!
You’re welcome! I tried to only get clear caps…
Thank you!
YW 🙂 Enjoy
In the scene where Poe is flying over the ice planet, he has some narly bruises on him. Must be after his encounter with Kylo
btw….no Snoke? hmmm. oh well, we are almost there guys!!!
Greetings Mike from RedLetterMedia! Now go back to your VHS tapes and your nonsense. 😛
I heard Snoke will only be shown in hologram form in this episode?
Watched several times more closely after reading comments about who Rey is crying over; Han or Chewie. It definitely looks like Han’s jacket and that’s Han’s hair, not Chewie’s fur.
Finn after Ren slices his arm off.
Oh he’s definitely going to lose that arm in that battle
I’d go with this. It’s hard to believe they’d show even a fleeting glimpse of a dead Chewie or Han in a trailer knowing it will be screen shot in HD every frame of the trailer and posted and analyzed.
i bet this is either when she gives in to the force and picks up that lightsaber, or this is when Luke shows up and whip’s Kylo’s ass.
I do think that’s Han actually, the hair on the head looks white if you look closely and the jacket is darker than Finn’s, like the one han is wearing. And IF he is her father, it would make sense why shes sobbing so much.Btw…that emotion from Daisy is great (already more than I got from the prequels…which I still loved!) but damn, I love her already 🙂
But, the jacket doesn’t seem as dark as Hans? And isn’t the hair knda curley? I bet it’s Poe. Maybe Ray is a Dameron? And Poe seems to be some sort of “adoptive son/protogé” of Han and Leia
nah it´s not Han’s jacket
Yeah I was going to say it looked like his coat. Remember though Poe wears this cost too.
Why is her face so brightly lit? Perhaps a new arrival?
Nope, you can clearly see Chewbacca’s iconic shoulder belt in the lower right of center part of the frame. Definitely chewie…
Take a closer look, it’s not distinct enough. It’s the light on Han’s grey hair that sort of makes it look like the shoulder belt. At the same time look to the lower left and you can see it’s Han’s jacket. (or what appears to be. We could both be right or wrong.)
Well, if Rey discovered that Han was her father, then it would make sense why she’s crying….
i thought that was fur, then i thought it was Han’s hair. but if you look closely, it is not gray hair at all, it is the forest background blending in. if you look at the leather on the jacket on the far left you can see that it is the same color as Finn’s jacket. I bet Kylo Smack’s him down.
Yeah, I just refreshed this page and didn’t see the reply with the picture below. I think you guys are right. Looks to be Finn.
Very serious tone. In a good way. You can feel this story is going to be good, and powerful.
The shots of the Knights of Ren immediately reminded me of the homicidal “pirates” from the original “The Fog” from 1980.
Ha ha. Love that movie.
plasma was a horror film homage…hard to think that abrams wouldnt be using other horror elements
Rey walking in the sand and then her working on somthing is very Skywalker.
The trailer was awesome! I’m confident this movie will be better than any of the prequels. For all you racist haters “See through you we can” – Yoda
Regarding the poster released on Sunday, this would have been more representative of JJ’s masterpiece.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1c/Jungle_Fever_film_poster.jpg
You are a real douchebag buddy. Just letting you know what we all think of u 🙂
Hear hear!
He or she sure is.
You know what, I am calling it now. This will be THE movie to make 3 Billion. I dont care if i am wrong or not, but we need some hapiness. Please, no more of this racist crap. We are all human beings. there is no need for this.
Hope so
Who gives a crap what freaking color a actor is. The question is will he or she help tell the story or not. I personally have never seen any of the new actors in a movie but i am hopefully optimistic that they will tell a great story. Even if the movie is a flop i will have shared memories with my 9 year old son who love all 6 movies.
Watch the movie “Attack the Block”
Boyega is awesome!
I take it you watched it?
Guys, is that Dameron we see Kylo Ren “using the force” on in some kind of breaking of will trick?
Yes.
That trailer was awesome! Star Wars feels epic again! Love the way it did not give away a lot more of the plot. I had goosebumps!
There’s more genuine heartfelt emotion on that one face than in all of the prequels.
That’s so true! I only really enjoyed the prequels for the style of the way everything looked. If they could have only had different directors like the OT and the Sequels will they would have been great!
I feel that this movie, after watching the trailer, will be about the dark and light sides finally balancing each other out, complimented with changing mindsets on both sides. The prequels were about the dark side destroying the light, the original trilogy was about the light destroying the dark. But look at this trailer; the only attack scenes were the Resistance attacking the First Order, with the exception of Kylo Ren attacking Finn. The TIE fighters now have WHITE wings, symbolic of a transition in thinking. The past is confused. Han has matured and sees the reality of the Force. Luke is nowhere to be seen. Kylo sees himself as the good guy. Finn is a redeemed Storm Trooper.
I see this film as headed for a very interesting take on the world both historically and today.
Actually, My new guess is this is a legend story.
Something happened so that the jedi AND the Sith disapeared and now it is coming back. It matches what Han says about its true, and the title as well.
The problem is the dark side seems to just be pure evil in the films so far. Hard to see how the films can end with good and evil just balancing each other out. Wouldn’t be very satisfying…
The film has been described as an analogy of the neo-Nazis who moved to Argentina et. al. There is increased polarization in the world, the goods are bigger, the evils more passionate. The system is overwhelmed in the process of recovering, and what is “good” becomes murky, like how the United States and Great Britain were criticized after the War. The only way for things to finally come to rest is for young, fresh minds to mend ends. This is embodied by the question in the trailer “Who are you?” and the response “Nobody.” Impressionable youth turn to evil due to naivete, embodied by Kylo Ren glorifying Darth Vader’s remains.
Balance will be brought when the new, ultra-level evils (the First Order, Starkiller Base, Kylo Ren, Hux, Phasma, and Snoke) are brought down and the imposing bodies of “good” (the Resistance and Luke Skywalker) are tamed. Only then can people can begin to reflect peacefully on the past. The (likely) death of one of the main original members represents the falling away of those things of which we need to let go, and the new good characters (Finn and Rey, the new white T.I.E. Fighters) represent new minds open to change and a good, hard look at the past and how it applies to the future. Kylo Ren represents those stuck in the past, controlled by those who are tyrants like Snoke. Luke’s (and hence Anakin’s) light saber represents the proper use of the past to understand and protect the present and future.
Perhaps I read too much into this, but I feel that my logic is sound.
7:00pm, December 17th!
me too, sixth in line.
7:30 🙂
Did everyone catch the lens flare off Captain Phasma’s helmet?
Lol, I wasnt sure, but i thought for a small second there was a lens flair with kylo ren. I am pretty sure i am wrong though 😉
(PS: I actually like it)
just on Phasma’s helmet? how about the star destroyer scene, the x-wing scene, the kylo force push scene, pretty much every scene…am i the only one who thinks that the lightsaber’s are too saturated and too bright? i dont remember lightsabers putting out so bright of a light and so much ambiance..or maybe my monitor settings need adjusted?
Okay, this is getting out of hand. There are so many incredibly stupid comments about the fact that two of the main characters in this film are a woman and black respectively. Get over yourselves. If you haven’t noticed, both the previous Star Wars films as well as real life has a large variety of people. White people and males are not being oppressed by admitting that there are other people out there. I mean, I am a white male and I’m perfectly okay. You don’t hear me bitching about the casting using stupid, pointless and outdated reasons. If this is how you act, all of you sad, sad people must live very lonely lives, screaming at others for daring to be born as anything that you aren’t. I don’t hate any of you, I pity you. I feel so sorry that all any of you feel is hate. That you have to spew that hatred at others who have done nothing to you. I hope one day you realize this and change.
Hear, hear!
Don’t let them fool you: it’s a very small minority and the only reason they are so vocal and persistent – thus making it looks like there’s a lot of them – it’s because they know they are irrelevant.
If you weren’t aware, and I’m sure you’re not Vader, there’s actually a proposed boycott going on as of yesterday that’s on twitter, claiming that this film is promoting white genocide and stealing white culture due to the casting of a woman and a black men in the lead roles.
That’s where this is coming from. It’s sad that hate has managed to touch something so pure and fun.
Really? I…what? I don’t even know what to say to such a stupid, hateful and willfully ignorant concept. I can’t even grasp how anyone could think that. I really and truly can’t.
Google, there’s some light news coverage of it at this point. It’s pretty pathetic and disgusting and completely unfathomable that it’s even happened.
Just did. I kinda want to throw up after reading that. I…I…I just don’t understand some people. I really don’t. It just saddens me that some can’t get that race doesn’t matter, we are all people, and that after everything that our species has gone through that there are those who cling to ideas that have never been in the best interest of anyone. Seriously, what is wrong with us?
Interesting..
http://www.vox.com/2015/10/19/9571309/star-wars-boycott
W… T…. F….
But you know, I recall there was a boycott of RotS because neocons thought it was an attack on W. Even after TPM and AotC we saw how well that boycott worked.. LoL
It was an attack on W. And a dang fine one it was.
I hope this one attacks the rest of the wing nuts. Would almost make up for killing Luke Skywalker of the EU and replacing him with the missing weirdo.
Dear SWNN, could you compile HD screenshots from the trailer just like you did for the last one? Would be much appreciated :]
I second that request!
I third that request, even thought I don’t think that is even a thing!
Was that Bespin Cloud City through the window of the star destroyer around 0:52? And the old Ep4 throne room aroun 1:39?
That’s not a Star Destroyer, it’s Kylo’s shuttle. It’s big. It has a bridge. Pretty pimp ride.
Right around 1:39 behind Finn looks like they didn’t cut out a white truck.
Anyone else think Luke has taken C3PO along on his self imposed exile? Still not seen either!
I don’t think so. Cause that behind the scenes reel that’s been out for awhile, shows c3po with leia at some resistance base it looks like.
Indeed it does, my memory ain’t what it used to be!
Has anyone seen Daisy watching the trailer tonight?
She posted this on her instagram:
Staying in a little b’n’b with my friend… Set an alarm to watch the trailer… My friend filmed my reaction. Totally emotional seeing it for the first time and so so so incredibly awed to be part of this incredible legacy #starwars #theforceawakens

Anyone else think that the first 30 seconds reveals that Rey’s character shares the exact same narrative as the skywalkers??
Luke wasn’t a loner scavenger, he was a whiny teenager. Very different.
Rey is even fixing something while she is looking at that starship o up… luke fixed stuff anikin fixed stuff. correlation.
…you’re serious?
Chewie fixes stuff. I guess he’s a Skywalker too.
han kept the falcon running for years with his own personal modifications. plus she could get the anakin stuff from leia just as well as luke.
what you say could be true. im just saying in the art of cinematography I see a correlation. star wars has always been a story about heritage.
Definitely not an impossibility but you’re making quite an inference from what we’ve seen. I’m also resistant to those who seem to think the plot is just IV redux from just 5 mins of footage.
king im not saying that this is an episode 4 redux. im simply saying that the first six movies were designed to rhyme like poetry. therefore why would the next three not rhyme?
Different poet.
Han fixed stuff, Chewie fixed stuff, R2-D2 fixed stuff. You’re stretching.
Luke cleaned R2-D2.. Padme cleaned R2-D2.. LoL
and they were related thanks for proving my point.
I didn’t prove your point. Just showing you how DUMB your point really is.
Lemme guess, your one of those guys who saw vaporators and still believes Jakku is Taatooine, right?
besides the fact that she states that she is “no one”. anikin was a slave and luke was a farm boy.
No I totally thought that like Luke and anakin she is stuck on backwater desert planet watching the ships Coke and go and dreaming of a better life, not realizing she’s special just like Luke and anakin. I love that Han guides her… Shows how far he came from the skeptical rogue in a new hope. I just hope that’s not his body Rey is crying over in the trailer.
finally some one gets me lol
I could be wrong but the body looks kinda furry. I think it’s Chewie.
“Who are you?” and “The Force is calling to you”, believe that’s the voice of Maz Kanata.
I do too. A lot of people seem to think it’s Leia, but I think it’s Maz.
I concur. They definately wanted to get Lupita in on this trailer somehow without spoiling her character.
Makes sense, especially as she’s on the poster.
It sounds like dialogue from inside the castle, before and during/after the rumoured flashback scene.
Agreed.
Oh and “Just let it in”.
I think that “Who are you?” is Maz, but “The Force is calling to you,” is Leia.
Rey, Finn, and Poe are going to be an awesome new trio. great casting by lucasfilm.
If only to anger the MRA fruitcakes.
So stoked!
I belive that Rey’ll find the lightsaber, inside of the destroyer in the begining of the movie. And hide with BB8. Them meet Finn, after his bad stormtrooper day.
How they will meet Han?? Why they need maz Katana help?
Luke.. Where are you? If Rey is a skywalker why is alone in Jakku?
Kylo Ren could be Ren’ brother? It’ll be a cool film!!
Only one think that I remember so much StarTrek…. The outview of hiperspace…
*Maz Kanata*
One last post before bed. Has anyone caught a glimpse of the Stormtrooper sent flying during the X-Wing strafing run at 1:54? Very reminiscent of the Stormie being sent airborne in the hangar scene in the previous trailer.
Seems the bucket heads are getting some hurt on in this film.
ANyone notice how unbeleivably BRIGHT those lightsabers are? i dont remember lightsabers ever making that much ambiet light.maybe its just my monitor, they seem over saturated on my screen
Are you going to keep posting this comment and keep having it deleted?
im going to keep posting it
Why is it even getting deleted anyway?
i posted it as a reply to someone’s comment on accident earlier, and it made no sense to that person’s comment, so i reposted it by itself. American_ignorant is just making a fail attempt at being an internet snob/troll
Actually American_ignorant has intelligent posts compared to your PT loving rambling crap. If anyone is a troll it is you sir.
Probably. The sabers look fine to me.
Despite of the Abrams’ “take-them-for-free” lens flares in the Star Destroyer and Phasma helmets, everything in this trailer looks PERFECT to me.
By the way, I’m totally fine with the flares. It seems a really good movie so far, he deserves to put them lol
They’re fine as long as they aren’t over done.
Finn’s seems darker blue then Luke’s in ANH and theyre supposed to be the same one. Otherwise I think they’re OK.
Yep, it’s darker. I’m over it already. This looks amazing.
Everything is brighter and more saturated in general, it’s not just the sabers. Film tech has improved immensely since the first film, especially special effects. Remember, ILM was created for SW, I think they know what they are doing.
Nope. The soft look of ANH was intentional, right down to Lucas having gauze on the lenses. The muted, dull colours of saber cores on everything fom the SEs on (DVDs, HD broadcasts, BDs) however are because LFL did such an appalling job, using an overly aggressive noise reduction approach in addition to completely botching the colour balance and contrast. They aren’t supposed to look like you’re used to seeing them.
Anyone notice that kylo is not wearing his helmet in the final shot attacking Finn?
yes that’s interesting!
Would someone be kind enough to tell what the last line in the trailer thats spoken by a female that I believe to be Lupita? About 50 listens and my old ears still cant decipher it, thanks.
Sounds like, Just blend in? Just ending?
I thunk it’s Leia, and it’s “Just let it in.” (referring to The Force)
It’s Maz talking to Rey obviously.
Maz asks ‘who are you?’ Leia is talking in the end, obviously.
Have you heard what Carrie Fishers voice sounds like now? That’s not at all her.
Ok, please let Disney know they are wrong then. http://blogs.disney.com/insider/2015/10/19/everything-the-star-wars-trailer-tells-us-about-force-awakens/?cmp=SMC|sws|natural|blginsider|InsiderOctober|TW|insidertfa-Disney|InHouse|2015-10-19|esocialmedia
Judging by all the corrections in the comments section under that blog, it’s safe to assume the blog writer has no special behind the scenes access to the trailer. Carrie’s voice is deeper and raspier than that.
You’re funny, but ignorant as hell.
Yeah, well at least I’m not deaf.
We’ll see in december, bring your hearing aid to the cinema.
Like I said, I’m not the one that’s deaf. 🙂
I agree it’s probably not Leia. And I seriously doubt (since the article seemingly got “First Legion” wrong) that the writer was an authority. Not to mention the fact that the voice says “The Force” in an accent that Carrie Fisher didn’t have in the original trilogy. Though she did use a fake British accent in some of ANH, the actress has joked ever since about how the accent went away for the rest of her performance.
Exactly! And thank you! I could be wrong, but it sounds nothing like Carrie Fisher then, and especially now!
She says “Just let it in”
Leia
Just woke up and final saw this. Wow. It does look different, it does look ever so slightly JJ’s Star Trek, but holy hell I don’t care. It looks incredible.
There’s EMOTION 🙂 very good performances, and that’s what it counts.
Anyone see the Mandalorian logo front and center of all the colorful flags/banners in the scene where that red tobot is walking on the right side of the screen?
I’ve found like 7 more identifyable 🙂
https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/flags-identified-in-trailer-3.6215/#post-154140
When Kylo is on bridge (from back) you see them launching the new starkiller weapon. (Like Alderan blast).
Kylo is very messed up, he gets choked up talking to Vader’s ghost. Amazing depth for a bad guy.
Empire propaganda after RoTJ is huge and people don’t know the truth about Vader’s death.
Luke, the last Jedi, is in hiding because he fears the force and what he almost became when he almost turned in RoTJ. He eventually learns not to hide.
The solo twins story is a live and well.
Someone saves Finn from Kylo and it has to be Rey. A fight between brother and sister is so Star Wars where battles are (student takes out master) (father tries to turn son) are not simple fights. Is that staff also a light saber? Look close at hilt.
Anyone noticed that: When Rey and Han talk, love theme of Leia and Han is playing? 🙂
Oh, yeah..
I like some of this, but my issues with this are too large to pretend that don’t exist. In their need to be their own thing-not EU, it appears they created something far less spectacular.
First, you can’t erase 10,000 years of Jedi greatness in 6 decades. It’s silly.
Sorry, but I find it impossible that in a span of 60 years the empire managed to wipe the entire universes memory of 10,000 Peace protecting Jedi Knights, there force powers, and the existence of two powerful Sith Lords.
Vadar died, and 30 years later Han Solo has to convince people that the Jedi were real.
Um, duh. Our missing Luke heroic deed should have been Uber Jedi Public Relations 101.
What is wrong with you Luke.
Seems like JJ’s answer to “who is Luke Skywalker,” is an epic squandering of emended power and the Heir to the Jedi was a giant dissointment.
Thanks man! Please give me back the Luke from EU. He was much more impressive.
Woah you’ve seen the movie already? Amazing insight! Where’d you park the Delorean, by the way?
I’m game for generic quips as the next man, but it sure appears they are going out of their way to discount the PT
Why would Han have to say the Jedi and the Dark side are real otherwise. The entire galaxy should have some basic knowledge of the Jedi.
Are they bad, good, that makes sense.
Are they real, just ask you grandma. Her grandma surely told her of a time where Jedi were flipping all over the place.
So many Jedi died during the clone wars and Yoda says they were stretched thin across the galaxy. Add in 60 years, an Empire that oppress, brainwashes, and destroys all records of Jedi existing, and many many deaths due to war and political instability and it’s perfectly reasonable to believe that this new generation, born after the battle of Endor, would have only heard of Jedi in passing.
Luke went into hiding after ROTJ.
I guess it’s not really return of the Jedi then. It’s the Jedi will appear for a second, then poof, bye.
30 years. And on Earth, we found out about civilizations from 5000 years ago.
How do you erase the existence of something so epic. Not to mention it was a Jedi who defeated the empire and brought down two badies.
We know more about mythical characters from 5000 years ago than they know about real ones who had real magical powers.
Now that’s one dang good PR campaign.
From the Empire perspective it was the rebels who destroyed the DS, twice. Not a jedi.
From the empres perspective, but they got chased to the edges of the outer rim. Word should have spread to everyone else.
I mean, they literally travel at the speed of light.
This is like asking someone to tell you their life story then interrupting five words in and telling them it doesn’t make sense. You’re being impatient and presumptive, and you will find no joy if you cannot learn to listen.
Sure, I bought tickets. But this is a site where we generally talk starwars.
I’m not boycotting the movie.
There is tons to like.
What they seem to be doing with Luke, or the lack thereof, it’s distressing.
Especially since it it’s looking like will be 2019 before we really get to see much of him.
The Deathstar would have been destroyed even if Luke didn’t defeat Vader and Vader killed Darth Sideous. So the Rebels will get all the credits. Yes there will be rumors of a jedi involved, but no one can prove it.
Even 30 years later?
Especially 30 years later. What is going to stick longer? A rumor of some Jedi (who already had been extinct), or a glorious space battle which won the war?
Well, when our solider do heroic things, we give them medals. Didn’t they have parades and such.
And as his sister, would Leia want to give Luke a giant assist in Jedi propaganda.
That’s what I mean, Luke Squandered a giant opportunity.
Something he didn’t do in the EU.
Suspension of disbelief is key to enjoyment of all fiction but *especially* science fiction. If you’re nitpicking from a few minutes of relatively vague trailer footage it’s clear you’re not going to enjoy anything.
Of course it is, and it’s not nick picking.
Luke is not a minor part of Star Wars.
He is more than a NitPick.
They don’t get him right, they basically destroy the entire fantasy.
I don’t see how that is nitpicking.
Nitpicking would be trashing the movie because of a mask, it a choice of location.
I’m speaking about the very essence of the question the movie is supposed to answer. “Who is Luke Skywalker?”
And you have not seen the movie yet. You have no answers. You can gripe and whine all you want, but it’s futile and immature.
When kindly move on. I didn’t ask you to engage in a debate with me. I’m voicing my opinion, are you a facist. Do you wish to suppress all dissent.
How Sidious of you.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Fascist. That’s hilarious. No, you’ll note that I said, “You can gripe and whine all you want.” Seriously, it’s your prerogative. But it doesn’t protect you from legitimate counter-arguments. Free speech cuts both ways: you have the freedom to complain about a plot you’ve neither seen nor heard, and I have the freedom to point that out.
In TPM Anakin reacts to Qui-Gonn like the Jedi are some kind of legendary heroes – and actually, that’s how it is: thousands and thousands of Jedi for a whole galaxy, means that most of the people spent entire lives without even seeing a Jedi once.
So it actually makes perfect sense that, decades after the Jedi are gone and 30 years after the death of Vader and the Emperor, the whole thing is largely considered as a legend.
(P.S. I’m sorry for my english, but it’s not my first language and I’ve been up all night to see the trailer so I’m a bit off)
It’s also pretty clear that the Jedi haven’t been erased from history but relegated to myth. The OT had this plot hole but it’s a stretch to drag it to the ST. It’s been a couple generations since people have actually experienced Jedi firsthand expect for Luke, who is obviously in hiding.
Always got to nitpick. This is why Star Wars is for those willing to give themselves over to Wonder. Try suspending disbelief for a half a second and you might find yourself actually enjoying something for once.
Why can’t people be critical without being a nit picker.
It’s not my fault they killed off an established Luke.
Whether they like it or not, it’s gonna be judged against the EU.
Not to mention they are in Rebels, and they are still around in OT.
Luke, maybe he hadn’t heard of them.
But now Rey hasn’t either.
Umm, really! Seems off to me.
Boohoo, cry me a river. Couldn’t care less about the EU after ROTJ. If they kept the EU after ROTJ, every EU-fan would be whining about the smallest details they changed for the movie. Most of the EU is mediocre anyway,
Don’t see why I should care.
Clearly you do.
I’m not dictating anyone, but if you’re expecting a multi-billion movie to fulfill anyone’s(your) wishes, you will be dissapointed. So get over it and enjoy the wonderful new era of Star Wars.
Oh, so are you pleased with PT?
Did you have this attitude after Jar Jar was revealed?
Seriously, if you criticized the PT in any way, then you kinda of being a hypocrite. Are you gonna tell me you never said a word about PT.
But I guess your serenity is more important than my views right. Mr. I’m so much better than you because I am excepting.
Who the heck makes you anyone that gets to dictate my opinion, or attempt to suppress them.
I am not impressed, what so wrong with bring these concerns to light?
Perhaps you’re overestimating the Jedi’s image to the public. If you go by the PT (shivers) they were kind of awful. They tried to broker peace… and failed. They were like an annoying UN council. Making a fuss but having little impact. Especially since the emperor ended up making them look like enemies of the republic.
Plus not everyone was a part of the republic. In a galaxy… 10,000 is a very very small number. Insultingly so.
Interesting, what about the other 999 thousands years though?
From the modern canonical POV, your worries are justified. But from the pre-1999 point of view, I think this setup of the Jedi being a myth is spot on
Compare it, if you will, to the knowledge of the Force apparent in ANH.
Inferior officers bad-mouth Vader, dismissing the Force as a silly superstition.
Han does the same when the topic comes up with Obiwan.
Luke doesn’t even know what the Force IS, let alone how legitimate it is.
Luke lived in the middle of nowhere, and his uncle tried to keep him away from the force like a match from gasoline – but even then, Luke had friends and traveled to larger cities on a regular basis – surely, if the Force and the Jedi were AS HUGE as they were shown in the PT, Luke would’ve heard of it at least by name in passing, just as even the most secluded Bhuddists have at some point heard the name “Jesus”.
Now look, the PT did happen, I’m not questioning that, but there is a legitimate inconsistency between the two Trilogies on this matter, the single most off-putting inconsistency if you asked me.
On one hand, it’s disrespectful of TFA to ignore how predominant the Jedi Order was in TGFFA circa Mace Windu’s lifetime,
but it is equally, if not more disrespectful to the OT to ignore how little-known the Jedi were circa Luke’s lifetime.
Overall, it makes far more sense for TFA to lean towards how things were in the OT – there’s no shame in just calling it quits and saying “It was the Empire’s fault!”.
This is good. I hadn’t really thought of it in that way.
Because I don’t like the killing off of PT, as bad as much of it was. I simply love those Jedi.
I do find it hard to fathom that they don’t know of Mace, Yoda, etc.
But what bothers me the most is what it all points to in terms of Luke.
I truly hope I’m missing something, like maybe Luke did rebuild the Jedi and it fell.
Hi Timothy,
I think it’s important to remember who Han is explaining this to.
He’s talking to Finn, who it seems has been raised from childhood to be a stormtrooper, and Rey, who has grown up alone on an isolated desert planet. Both of them are young, would have been born after the death of the Emperor and Darth Vader, and would have been, in many ways, very isolated growing up.
Consider also that if the Empire, or First Order, is still powerful then perhaps they would have tried to suppress news about the death of the Emperor and Vader, the rise of the Rebel Alliance, the existence of Luke Skywalker (the first known Jedi since the purge), etc, to maintain their power and control, and suffocate any spark of home and further resistance to their dictatorship
Anyway, there’s a real possibility that Finn and Rey may know very little about the Jedi and the Sith, having heard them only whispered about as rumors or legends.
Regarding Luke – be patient. I have faith that Luke’s return will be truly epic, and that there’s a very compelling reason for his absence.
Good point. I am looking at that in context of the rumors of Luke being missing.
Guarding a Sith tomb sounds cool.
I hope he didn’t go all Yoda and is literally turned into the next Yoda.
I truly hope so.
Because I can’t bare waiting until 2019. These last few years have been torturous. Ok, that’s hyperbolic, but you know.
Actually the Jedi were almost forgotten by ep 4. Han dosent belives in the Force even tho he was already alive when the Jedi order still existed. Tarquin refers to the Jedi as something old and long ago gone.
I think Finn is 100% out of his depth with a light saber, when you see Kylo pace towards him to dual his face says it all, he’s literally using it to protect himself.
I personally still think we will see Luke enter this scene, Finn is just about to be put down when Luke enters to save the day.
This was one of my favorite moments. Visceral.
I was so impressed by that brief flash of Kylo – he looks like he really wants to beat the crap out of Finn. I really enjoyed the prequels, but some of the saber fights (Dooku vs Obi-Wan and Anakin) lacked that passion. Dooku was calm and cool. Kylo is a psycho!
Yeah, I agree. He just happened to be in possession of the lightsaber when being confronted by Kylo Ren. The whole Finn & Lightsaber marketing thing was put in place by JJ to deceive us away from the idea that Rey is the chosen one. I also think that she will save Finn from Kylo Ren. Luke will probably only appear on screen for 5 minutes when all the fighting is over.
People know about the old Jedi but not about Luke. Luke was the “return of the Jedi” that no one really knew about. Luke went into hiding.
Even if so, then no one knows who saved the Galaxy from Darths. Damn, unsung hero Luke.
To that extent, how many people knew there in fact were Darth’s at the top to begin with?
They don’t have to know they were Darths. But that’s my point.
Luke, the Heir to the Jedi, squanders the great Jedi PR act in 1000 year by telling no one a Jedi saved the Galaxy.
That’s exactly my issue.
Luke is apparently a poop.
Luke from the EU was a man of action, rebuilding the Jedi to its former glory.
So far, it appears that’s been replaced with something different. Which scares me to no ends.
The EU doesn’t exist anymore, get over it. The so called “new” Luke will have his reasons.
I fully defended the killing of the EU, but always stated I would judge the new stories compared to the EU. It’s only fair.
Whether they like it or not, this movie has to be judged against the EU.
Too much money and time of mine was invested into the EU.
I have a right to expect them to replace it with something better.
And I fully am aware we are missing pieces. But I’m not gonna suspend the past to please those who are willing to blindly follow the new Cannon.
Ok, quite selfish if you ask me.
Not at all.
In fact, they should be expecting it.
When they decided to crush the EU, they had to know the new story would be compared to the legacy.
If you rewrite Lord of the Rings. Would it be selfish if I compare your work to J.R.
One difference. If you rewrite LotR, LotR will still exist, so it’s logical to be compared. Where as the EU doesn’t exist anymore.
As for the selfish part I was mostly pointing at your statement YOU spend a lot of money on it and the RIGHT to expect something from them.
Ok, so if you rewrite all of them. Considering that’s what they’re doing.
And yea, I mean decades of my life spent on the premise something was cannon.
They take it away, fine.
But it seems fair that my opinion will be based off of this cannon.
To me, the Legacy is the benchmark.
I get why it may not be for others though.
I would never suggest people boycott it. I just wanna voice my concerns.
Because I’ve gained a lot of valuable insight by doing so.
Why do you insist on being so harsh.
“Get over it”, whining,” blah blah.
I asked you before, are you in love with the PT.
Would you be happy if this trailer had Jar Jar?
Why does it scare you?
Because I happen to like the Luke who was a hero. theyve given me nothing to think this new Luke is half as great as EU Luke.
They are basically moving on.
Actually, I think its more of a case of kicking the can down the road. When you bring Luke into the equation, you bring the plot cluster$@&% called “force ghosts” in to the equation with him. Your an EU fan like me. You know Zhan’s first order of business was to 86 the whole force ghost thing. JJ would rather let Rian deal with it.
So JJ was scared.
I hope that is it. Because I fear they may be turning Luke into a tragic story like his father before him.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Luke had a hard time getting followers.
Some of the greatest people in our history were sidelined or even hated in their time.
I think making Luke an exile was a smart call, there is nothing more boring than a protagonist with the odds stacked in their favor.
Hmm, that’s is a plausible thing.
There is a chance of course that Luke did exactly what you said he “should” have done – told everyone what he did, and started a new jedi temple, only for it to be attacked and destroyed (those knights of Ren in the trailer are surrounded by loads of bodies).
That’s my hope.
And maybe Palp was just one step ahead even in death.
To make it clear, Maz talks in the beginning and Leia in the end! http://blogs.disney.com/insider/2015/10/19/everything-the-star-wars-trailer-tells-us-about-force-awakens/?cmp=SMC
I don’t really think the article is a well informed authority on that. It also states that the stormtroopers are from the First “Legion” (not Order). I really don’t think that”s Leia speaking at the end. Carrie Fisher joked so much about the fake accent she used in a few scenes of ANH which mysteriously went away for the rest of the movie/trilogy, I doubt she would put an accent back into her performance.
I love how Han has transformed from the guy that smirked at ‘hokey religions’ is now passing on the legends, what he’s seen, to a new generation who have been kept in the dark. Awesome.
And in exactly the same space in which he was first seen to dismiss them. Beautiful symmetry.
Rey is looking very TPM Anakin at the start of this trailer.
I liked Anakin in TPM, sure he had his annoying scenes [I blame Lucas], but in the scenes where he’s quiet, he’s actually pretty good.
Daisy Ridley’s reaction video to the trailer (Instagram)
https://instagram.com/p/9CzDvblE6W/?taken-by=daisyridley
lol your life is changed girl! To be fair I had about the same reaction though… 😛
Aww, Starkiller Base was just a little guy during the classic trilogy..
Shoot for the stars little one, eventually you’ll hit them……;)
Please make this clear for me: Wasn’t there an announcement at some
point that the movie will NOT be released in a 3D format? I personally
can’t stand the 3D format. It’s coarse and irritating.. and it gets you
to wear two pairs of glasses over. Is there gonna be a non-3D release?
It’s course and rough…..and it…….sorry, couldn’t resist.
Yes. There will be non 3D screenings. I got my tickets already, for a non-3D ATMOS screening. However, i do no know if there will be non-3D IMAX screenings. I will have to look into that.
In the Netherlands and Belgium there are 2D screenings 😉
Damn. Even the reflection from the blaster in Daisy’s eyes. Attention to detail.
One of hallmarks of “Good CGI”.
indeed
I’ve been lurking on this site for months, signed up to ask what you guys think about this… Also in the trailer when Rey is shooting the blaster it’s very reminiscent of the scene in ANH after Obi-Wan gets killed, Luke just starts shooting like a mad man.. If Rey is not Luke’s daughter I would be surprised at this point..
They both can make anguished expressions.
Relationship confirmed!
LOL ..fair point.. but I think any actor playing the role of Skywalker’s daughter may do her homework enough to make a similar anguished expression..Sure I may be reaching but we’ll see..
Problem with so many on this site. No matter what they wont be happy. All i want is to sit back and enjoy the ride as i did as a kid with my own kids.
You all expect to much and will never be happy, its not being a fan, to many of you are crazy fanatics taking something that will potentially be a fun ride and ruining it for yourself and others before you even see it.
Who cares about the past sit back and enjoy and dont over analyze.
All this really takes the fun out of reading a fun site.
People… RE-LAX. Seeing a lot of “worrying” and assumptions on here. You don’t know jack for sure. You haven’t seen the movie. How sad to live your life getting so upset based on assumptions. How about you see the movie, then when you have all the facts, when the story comes together on the screen (not in your head), then you comment about whatever the hell upsets you. Until then, be happy. A new Star Wars is less than 8 weeks away.
Does anyone notice that Rey has some resemblance to Shmi Skywalker???
Since the second teaser dropped, yes.
At least she can act better. I’ve seen children give a better dying performance.
God yes! That scene with Shmi dying was just SOOOOO bad. I mean how could anyone watch that scene and not cringe? Just one of many….
For all those who love to call people names or say their whining if they bring up critical analysis.
I ask you, unless you had the exact same attitude when PT came out. Unless you never gave those reviews when you first saw the trailers with Jar or any other criticized aspect of PT, the how do you have room to now say others are whining if they are expressing concern about both the lack of Luke, and even what appears to be the absence of Jedi post “Return of the Jedi.”
Does “Return of the Jedi,” really mean a brief appearance of the Jedi.
Is the answer to Who was Luke Skywalker that he wasn’t a failed hero who just could hang and decided to hide why the Galaxy faced a growing threat.
I realize we don’t have the answers, but it’s fair to raise these concerns.
Only one way to find out! 58 days to go.
Never done anything of the stuff you mentioned (and, yeah, I was there in 1999), simply because I have this weird habit of actually watching a movie before judging it or having concerns about it.
Like YOU just said, we don’t have the answers, so one thing is to ask questions, another things is to go on endless rants about things that may, or may not, be what you think (and, in either case, without knowing the reason why).
Also – and this is merely a matter of interpretation – to me the meaning of “Return of the Jedi” was always about Luke finding the “Jedi” (the hero) in himself and redeeming his father more than “re-establishing the Jedi order”.
You’re 100% right
Didn’t Luke actively state in Heir to the Jedi his goal was to rebuild the Jedi order?
I don’t believe I went on a endless rant, only raised what I found troubling. Based off of leaves and the trailer.
Ok, so now we are talking NEU (for lack of a better term).
Do you always accomplish all your goals?
Do you know if he did, in those 30 years, but then something happened?
And, if he didn’t, do you if it’s because of something he saw/found out that made him change his mind?
Do you see the problem here? We are speculating on speculations, because we don’t have the answers, we don’t know the story.
Oh yea, that’s why I said I realize we don’t have all the information.
I should have disclaimed that I am not saying I am boycotting it.
In the past I’ve said Damn you JJ, but jokingly.
I’m frustrated he feels the need to horde Luke from us though.
We’re told that “What happened to Lukeskywalker?” is the question that drew JJ in. I believe that it’s the “McGuffin” at the heart of the film. It’s like the “Who done it?” mystery that the plot turns around, revealing Luke in the trailer is like giving away “the butler did it”.
A lot here is hanging on the rumour that Luke had a Jedi academy that this was raided by the “First Order’ and only then did Luke disappear. There must have been a good 10 years after Endor where the Jedi were definitely returned.
I have one idea, by the way, that the Force needs both side, the Dark side and the Light, and that with the end of the Palpatine and Vader it gradually faded and Luke slowly ‘lost’ his powers and that’s why he failed to defend his new Jedi academy and vanished. Know that the Knights of Ren are reviving the Dark Side, “The Force Awakens”.
It is very fair to raise these questions, but what you can tell from these trailers is the tone this movie will have. It’s far and away more like the tone of the OT, I get a ROTJ vibe but darker.. The tone of the PT was just garbage from the start. Misa no like da crunchin’ , Sea monster, Wise-cracking Ewan MacGregor, yea.. this movie will be nothing like that I think that much is safe to assume.
I love the tone.
There is little doubt that the are doing many many things right.
I love the characters, Ren, Rey, and Fin.
Wasn’t the ‘return’ the return of anakin skywalker?
Was it?
Im not sure but thats certainly a valid reading. Just as open as the concept of the chosen one.
Hmm. You know, that certainly makes sense.
Doesn’t change my fears about what’s done with Luke though. I sure hope they get him right.
My guess is that us readers are gonna get apretty different luke to the old eu. Stick with it though, at the very least yr not gonna know what to expect exactly.
That is the part I like, the not knowing.
But as in very different, that’s frightening.
Luke from EU was very very powerful. As in controlling sabers with his mind alone and fighting while in state of meditation powerful.
May I offer you some perspective?
Change (as in “very different”) doesn’t have to be frightening. It can actually be pretty exciting.
Also, there’s the “Superman problem”: when you have a very powerful hero the only way to have an interesting story is to keep upping the ante – and this rarely works, because it tends to ger ludicrous.
So, you know… just chill 🙂 Be open to change, go in with an open mind – who knows, you may even end up finding this “different Luke” more intriguing than you think.
When I first heard the rumors that the Jedi didn’t come back, it took me some time to digest it. Actually, I was in shock. Its good this has been revealed now so that most fans can let go of the previous stories and wrap their minds around this newly unfolding universe.
I recall (in the original Marvel comic?) that the use of Jedi in the title was plural, as in the return of the “guardians of peace and justice,” which is why the original expanded universe created stories in this direction. .
So wheres Luke? Is he the one with R2
He’s on an island off the coast of Ireland.
Ok! Now I can relax
yep
Maybe would Luke be like Yoda in the ESB and ROTJ in this movie. That shot where walk Han, Finn Rey and BB8 to that giant door. Maybe is Luke there?
Speaking of Yoda, that voice at the beginning is i’m guessing Kanata speaking, sounds very Yoda-esque, definitely a she-Yoda sort of vibe going on.
WOAH – Is Kanata the one who leads Rey to Luke?
SHIT! Maz Kanata is Luke’s wife isn’t she! That would be awesome, she seems his type.
I thkink she could be her apprentice
I thinnk she might be Luke’s apprentice
would be awesome.. could be 😀
No Luke? Come on!
Yea, that’s got me concerned.
It doesn’t give anything away, at all, top marks for that
There’s a quick shot in there [very quick], where you can see Han and Rey approaching the gate of what seems to be Yavin Rebel Base, except this time, there’s a bunch of Roma-style banners and flags and sheets of many colors hanging around.
That looks interesting, I’m curious what that place is.
That’s Finn with Rey
I think it’s that place that has the scene with all the aliens reminiscent of Jabba’s palace in it. That’s the outside.
It’s Maz’s castle. She’s just a core world Yodalike character with a hobby for collecting who jumpstarts the entire story, that’s all. Owe, and she’s Force sensitive and and witty catalyst. Those flags are the remnants of a long forgotten system. The politics and economy are quite different these days….
I assume Maz is the tiny creature on the poster. She also appears handing over the lightsaber in the first teaser, and the collector in the “Aftermath” interlude with Vader’s saber.
Force sensitive huh? this is starting to get interesting…
is that me or could kylo rend be talking to supreme leader snoke instead of vador ? assuming snoke = darth plagueis “I will finish what you started”
Likely
That would be epic.
Agreed. Sleight of hand editing.
not necessarily : when Kylo says “I will finish what you started”, Vader mask is shown. It implies two different things :
– Kylo is talking TO Vader (I will finish what YOU started)
…or…
– Kylo is talking ABOUT Vader (I will finish WHAT you started).
In the second case, it would implied Kylo talking either to the Emperor (who created Vader) or to Plagueis (who created the creator of Vader). And I don’t believe in the first case.
Perhaps, but it only evidences one thing: that the editors want to link those words with those images in the viewers mind for a reason. A ruse perhaps??
Possibly. Heck, Kylo could be talking to a captured Poe, inferring that it was the Resistance that started the civil unrest.. And by finish, Kylo means to blow up a Resistance friendly star system. More speculation, why not.
Oddly, Kylo’s inflection reminds me of Buffalo Bill from “Silence of the Lambs.” “Now it places the lotion in the basket.” First thing It thought of when I heard the talking Kylo toy.
Why couldn’t snoke just be a new character??
I actually don’t find the super weapon all that troubling. Of course once you have that power, you want it again.
I wouldn’t of done the dessert, snow, forest thing again, not so soon. But it doesn’t bother me.
Hey people!!! Now you’re sleeping, i’m awaken!! 😉 they say life are moments. That’s one for sure. I just cried. The colors, the voices, the ships, the battle, the droids… I’m so happy right now!!! I love you all!!!!
So… no one is actually debating the image highlighted on this post? The first glimpse of the Knights of Ren.
Kylo is accompanied by six figures (seven is a mystical number), which have different aspects or influences (I think I saw a Mandalorian helmet, they´re holding different weapons, and the figure on the back does not seem human).
And …. Kylo is holding a another freaking lightsaber with his left hand! Might have been he who stumbled into Vader’s lightsaber, not Rey?
I own that saber, how does he have it?
I don’t have a 1080p screen so I’m not seeing the best resolution. Are you positive this is a lightsaber in his left hand? But I must say, I am a little bit surprised by the KoR. The guy on the right is holding a blaster rifle and the one in the back some sort of axe. This looks more like a bunch of pirates than dark side occultists. Cool shot nevertheless.
Just open the picture on this post. It looks shorter enough to be a lightsaber and not a staff.
I have that same feeling about the KoR. Maybe just a bunch of enthusiasts or “wannabe Siths”, with Kylo being the one truly gifted with the ability to use the force.
Yeah i’m seeing it as a “newly acquired” lightsaber too.
It all depends where in the film it goes. It could be at the beginning, they get the relic but it’s taken off them, thus Kylo is pursuing it. Or it could be Vader’s Red lightsaber, and maybe they’re all on Endor at the beginning visiting his Pyre and that’s where Luke left it. It does look a little more like the scene in the snow confrontation scene where Finn seems to have Annakin’s Blue Saber. I wonder if then in this scene Finn (and eventually Rey) are confronting not just Kylo, but all seven!!! Increases the odds that we’re going to get Luke in to save the day (I think there’s a lot of disinformation happening to heighten the impact when he appears).
I agree. The timing of that sequence is crucial. From all trailers, looks like it’s the only scene under heavy rain, so it might not include other key characters on it. A kind of self-explanatory scene of “Hi, we are the KoR and this is what we do”.
I have vague memories of early concept art with the ‘Zorro’ figure (Kylo) on Endor collecting Vader’s mask from the remains of the pyre. I’ve always felt that would be a very strong opening establish scene, connecting to the end of RotJ plus setting up the main villain and his narrative. We know that Warwick Davis who played an Ewok (Wicket) is in it, and a single observing Ewok for a few seconds would tell us where we are. Perhaps the 7 all appear to visit Vader’s ‘grave’ in the opening scene in a rainy Endor forest?
Could be . It’s a good way to start the movie and recap the story: a few scenes of the KoR connecting to the Battle of Endor and the fall of the Empire; then a few scenes of Finn acting as a stormtrooper in a mission, explaining why and how the First Order are active and struggling to gain control of the galaxy; and a few scenes of Rey scavenging in Jakku, giving us the image of a fragmented galaxy that never recovered after the fall of the Republic and Empire.
Then something will show up that connects the characters and the new narrative for this trilogy can begin. Sounds good to me!
The opening crawl can cover this. Montage sequences have not appeared in any SW movie and not used as storytelling device.
I can agree with that, but still… we had the original movies and then the prequels. This is the first natural sequel of a universe we are familiar with. I’m not sure if the opening crawl is enough to cover it.
Vader’s red light saber was lost down the shaft in the second Death Star, correct? I mean, maybe in a Family Guy inspired scene the saber bops a utility worker in the head and he has to leave the construction site for medical attention, and leaves with it just before the Death Star ignites.. Otherwise, no, the saber was blown to smithereens.
The fact that the Knights of Ren are holding staffs similar to Rey’s may be most significant. Perhaps Rey stumbled upon a hallowed weapon of a fallen Knight, making it, and by in turn, Rey, the prime interest of Kylo. I would also bet that the other Knights are not skilled enough to create their own lightsabers, something their leader holds over them, despite the crude fashioning of his own saber.
First of all, the feels, the so many feels.
1) This is Star Wars and JJ in choreography. Really nice. Just Mark Hammil said, Everything has changed but nothign has changed.
2) The events before the battle of Jakku are some sort of black ops secret. The Jedi are a myth! What is the Galaxy happened at that battle?
3) I love Rey and I am not feeling good seeing her wielding only blasters and staffs I want her to use the force. The little flashlight addition to her clothing at the first shot was such a nice addition.
4) An entire planet now a Death Star. It seems it took 30 years (the gap) to complete it and now it’s time to use it. JJ is repeating George’s pattern to bring us t the next part of the saga via Death Star completion time.
5) Han looks so tired and Leia so weak! Again, what happened on Jakku? It must have been terrifying to have left such great scars on the people of the Galaxy.
6) Nice huge scale battles. Really like the feeling, it is a beautiful blend of special effects and props. JJ has been careful with it, you can tell by the smoke, it is not uneccessarily much, just enough and dusty too look as authentic as your average reali life dogfight.
7) Kylo Ren means bussiness and has a lot of rage. His mask looks a bit stupi without the hood but I guess that’s what makes the hood up sequence all the more satisfying.
8) No Luke, no Lupita character if I am not mistaken. Phasma and Poe are introduced as secondary characters which is nice but I would have liked some more dialogue. Hard to talk of course when a dark force user is probing your mind but sitll.
9) The Galaxy is poor, given up and in a mess. Even though I am sure we won’t get to see it, I would have liked to say Corrusant’s state. That would have been extremely telling.
10) I want more, I must have more.
I reckon Luke has gone into hiding because the forces of darkness are tracking down all relics belonging to Vader and the dark side (Vader’s helmet, Anakin/Luke’s lightsaber) Is that Bespin cloud city in 0:52 and the throne room from Ep4 in 1.39? Maybe Han and co are retracing their steps to cover up anything left behind relating to the Skywalkers. Maybe Luke is already dead and we just see his force ghost in the films, which is why we don’t see any publicity shots of him. Just guesses – roll on December.
I Think what you see at 0:52 is the Starkiller weapon being shot, the same thing that causes a red wave of destruction at 1:04, like a “destruction of Alderaan 2.0 scene”.
Yes I agree, and the planet that is destroyed is Poe his home planet. Which will give him extra motivation to go after the First Order.
The second think is not the throne room, it’s Maz Kanata castle I think.
At 01:45, when Rey is crying, you can see a brown leatherjacket, some fur (probably Cheewie), some grey hair. Is that who i think it is?
I’ve spent hours pausing that part trying to figure it out. Could be Han, Finn or Chewie … damn them for being smart enough to keep it out of focus. :p
Haha exactly! But I really do think it is Han…
Think about it, we see Kylo strike something down with his saber, and the shot after is of Rey crying with someone who’s dead. 🙂
I think it’s Chewie holding a dead Han. When you look close you can see a human ear.
Just my thought! And then we see a new shot of Han and Cheewie. I really think we are right!
Don’t worry — it’s an Ewok!!! Those are tears of joy!
But seriously, that’s her hand holding her fallen comrade, not an ear.
I don´t mind with a Han or Chewie sacrifice on this new trilogy but I can wait for episode VIII to see that.
I would bet the dead person is someone from Jakku that helped Rey when she was growing, like a father figure. And after this person is killed by some First Order guys that were looking for her or something she found, Rey just goes “full Luke” (after his uncle and aunt were killed and sailed away from his planet with a bunch of strangers).
Possibly Max von Sydows character.
My first impressions are that it looks like they’ve pulled off something really special here, it seems quite subtle and poignant with all the razzmatazz that you expect from a star wars movie. Tho always the pessimist, i keep reminding myself that we’ve been here before, remember the phantom menace trailer, and then again everything looks real and as it should be, note the way how terrified fin looks when facing ren, just like luke did when facing vader in empire. Not all gung ho cowboys wasting a thousand droids a minute like obi wan and anakin did in the prequels.
Well those *were* well trained jedis. I doubt Finn is trained if he is even force sensitive at all.
I know what you mean. Thos great teasers. The only honest prequel trailer was this one haha. I still remember how weird I felt when seeing this (video below)… But I don’t get tired of saying this: Star Wars is back with character driven stories. This is the main, huge difference between the prequels (plot-driven) and the originals, and this is my New Hope. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7DC-kNCS8c
Looking back at those trailers (II+III), what were they thinking?!?
Dam that looks like a sci-fi channel special. Where’s the Brunnon-G? 🙂
I must be the only person on the planet who was thoroughly unimpressed by this trailer. Oh well.
Maybe yes.
Not the only one. Wouldn’t say I was thoroughly unimpressed, just not impressed that much. However, I would describe the trailer as intriguing.
Again it didn’t reveal much more apart from the Knights; mostly the same locations and events as before. It did make me want to see more, but for the non Star Wars fan I don’t know if it would impress or make them interested. It might feel bland to the non fan. With enough fans already it probably didn’t need to be above that level of promotion.
This Finn person does look to be an interesting character. He may be my new favourite.
I actually think that, between the teasers, the trailer, the poster and the rumors, we actually have a very good idea now of what is going to happen in the movie, or at least how the plot evolves. The holes still to be filled are still who Rey and Kylo really are, if Finn will be force sensitive or not, where Luke is, and why the galaxy seems to not have changed at all in 30 years despite the battle of Endor and what everybody imagined would be the birth of a New Republic.
this is what happened when expectations are too high. it was different than i thought it might be, but i like how they didnt give away much at all. they showed some emotion, and a more serious side. most trailers these days are horrible. this one makes me want to see the movie even more.
People just want to see the movie.
If there was a guarantee of a 2nd trailer, then this as a first trailer would be perfect. But I doubt we’re getting that.
This looks incredibly promosing. This two and a half min long trailer had more emotion than the whole prequel trilogy combined. It looks like OT’ style combined with JJ’s, just like Luke said: Everything is changed but nothing is changed…
Agree. Visually feels very new, more sophisticated. We had seen the Falcon flying inside the Death Star like crazy, but here, with the day light, the sand… It fits perfectly with all that, but it’s just a step forward.
It looks like a reboot of ANH without literally being a reboot. I hope they have. a convincing explanation to why nothing has changed in 30. years !
Nothing happened for 60 years during the Cold War.
love the trailer! now in regards to all the talk about how everyone seems to have forgotten the jedi order even existed in the OT and obviously the new trilogy… I would have to agree that that is stupid and a major plot hole! The jedi were known, end of story, re watch the PT (it happened) and understand the image presented to us. The jedi are the keepers of the peace for the galaxy, you must remember that the republic existed for many many many years without an army, there for the jedi went around the galaxy to deal with conflicts. The jedi also worked closely with the senate and their temple was situated in the capital for all to see. they were no secret. the people of the republic understood and knew what the jedi were. not to also mention that if your child displayed force like abilities, you would normally take them to the jedi in order for them to be trained as a jedi. 100% the republic knew of the jedi end of story, no if, and, or but’s about it. Now in regards to outer rim worlds, fair enough that some people on those worlds didn’t know about the Jedi as the worlds were not in the Republic. BUT, if a little slave 10 year old anikan had heard of jedi before… obviously stories still reached these worlds and also don’t forget nothing stopped some people from these outer rim worlds from travelling to the core and see for themselves what the republic was all about and how it functioned. not all outer rim worlds were poverty central and un intelligent.. look at Kamino.. they understood exactly what the republic was all about, they also knew of the jedi order, they are an intelligent, well educated race.. in fact many of these outer rim worlds would have chosen not to join the republic based on how they knew it really functioned not because they were “too far out of the way” so to speak. Let us also remember that the jedi were the generals of the clone army during the clone wars, again people of the republic would have known this as I’m sure they were told how their new army functioned to save the republic. Palpatine also explained to the senate why he decided to destroy the jedi when he announced the formation of the empire.. that would have been HUGE news in the republic! MASSIVE scandal in fact.. “the jedi turned against the republic and tried to kill the chancellor” thats front page news. in conclusion, in the 20 years after EP3 there is no way in hell that the jedi were simply “a myth” and forgotten to the people of the Empire.. 20 years is nothing.. most people here on earth know basic history of the entire life of the earth itself. WW1 & WW2 were longer ago than 20years, have people forgotten Nazi’s and hitler? no. I will say though, that i do believe the people of the republic new nothing of the “Sith” as there is no indication in the PT that is was public knowledge. The people were also unaware that palpatine was a sith and had force abilities as this was never disclosed to the general public. they believed him to be a normal human being “mangled by the attack on him by the jedi”. the closest thing the general star wars public knew about the sith was that some jedi can turn bad, such as in the case of Count Dooku, leader of the separatist movement, former jedi, that was public knowledge because obviously the public knew who the republics enemy was and we also know that the senate knew Eg: padme knew etc. it was public knowledge. anyway 100% guarantee the people of the Empire/former Republic/star wars universe could not have forgotten about the jedi. Han not believing in them in EP4 is ridiculous and anyone else who doesn’t know of them is also ridiculous. PLOT HOLE.
There were only 10,000 Jedi Knights in the universe. Thats a drip in the bucket, and completely understand that many people never heard or let alone encountered a Jedi. Now we’re talking almost 50 years since the purge.. They are ancient myth
Whats the number of jedi got to do with it? They had a functioning job within the Republic, a very PUBLIC job…you would think that people of the republic understood how their government operated, for example, take the naboo crisis.. don’t you think that it would have been local news that jedi were being dispatched by the senate to negotiate with the trade federation in order to try end the blockade? the senate wouldn’t have been this mystical thing that people didn’t understand. one doesn’t have to see in order to believe, I’ve never seen an FBI agent.. does that mean they don’t exist? also how many FBI agents are there in comparison to non FBI agents on this earth? its irrelevant, there could be 3, who cares? we know the role they play in the US government etc. Based on your logic, when the public were informed of the chancellors decision to change from Republic to Empire based on his reasoning, they would have said to themselves “what are these jedi that the chancellor openly speaks of as if we all know what they are?” lol your wrong. Perhaps you need to re watch the PT or watch it to begin with?
It all makes perfect sense if you realize that the PT never happened. Sounds good to me. Lol.
The Jedi Order was corrupt and arrogant. Good riddance. Force use and light side isn’t necessarily synonymous with adherence to rigid Jedi dogma.
The PT (and my maturing between original and prequel trilogies) definately removed my faith and fondness in a “Jedi” order. I’m no fan of the SIth either – any hierarchy, especially one that expects obedience and adherence to cultural norms is a poisonous ideology and open to leverage from outside and within.
I agree 100%
It would have been a great theme to explore in the PT, it just doesn’t really get there.
But we do explore opinions on sand. Riveting stuff.
Parhaps you need to watch the OT (or watch it to begin with?), and go through that scene where a guy in uniform makes fun of the Force describing it as an obsolete religion.
Also, you may have to consider that numbers DOES matter: 10.000 Jedi for ALL the galaxy mean that most of the people would live their life without ever seeing a Jedi – and TFA is set 50+ years after the Jedi have been eradicated.
that is the plot hole i speak of!!!! that guy would have known about the jedi based on the way they were in the PT hence why i said george screwed up… he needed to have made them more secret in the PT in order to justify the way people don’t know about them in the OT but he didn’t. WHO CARES if you never saw a jedi in person… you ever seen the queen? or does she not exist in your mind because you haven’t. you’re just being silly now
Again your forgetting the tyrannical dictatorship of the empire and their absolute control on the galaxy and by definition the people in it. The empire is very reminiscent of the north Korean government. Where a small body of corrupt people with 1 incredibly corrupt and evil leader have brainwashed an entire country to believe in crazy things, such that their leader is a god. Its not far fetched that a similar organization could at the very least convince people that a group of people who were “mythical” and mostly unknown before the birth of the empire never existed or were just fairy tales. Also your comparing a democratic free-market country were the government is obligated to keep things within the public domain and knowledge to the empire which is again as tyrannical and dictative as you come. tl;dr The empire could easily manipulate people into believing the Jedi were fictional fairy-tales.
Perhaps if you’re on Coruscant or Naboo or another major planet you know about the Jedi. Han’s attitude to the Jedi, 20-30 years after their elimination in ANH ‘pokey old religion’ implies that even then their reputation as great warriors was fading. Now we’re in a galaxy in decline and chaos and Rey has grown up poor in a minor settlement on a minor planet, I can easily seem these figures seem like a myth. As for the ‘Dark Side’ RofS seems to imply that Palpatine never ‘came out’ as a Sith, so the Dark Side is even more distant legend.
I didn’t bother reading that block tbh. You just state “your wrong” as if you’re speaking with facts. None of us are. I’m just telling you there wern’t alot of Jedi to begin with, and this is now 50 years after the Jedi purge. They’re now a myth.
First off, I hear what you’re saying. Secondly, you really should’ve considered writing a TL;DR version- or, at least some paragraph breaks. However….
Although the Jedi were a galactic peace-keeping Order for over a thousand generations, they still were a considerably monastic organization. So, unless you just so happened to run into one or had to deal with them directly (especially if you were on an outer rim world), you’d most likely only be privy to hear-say and rumors about them. In the equivalent of “modern times in SW” (let’s say a 120 year period), the only time that they were truly a “publically” observable entity was when the Clone Wars kicked into full gear and even then, you would’ve had to have been in the frontlines of the military, or, on a world directly engaged with the war in order to have experienced their direct presence.
It’s not a far leap to imagine that folks, particularly on an outer rim planet like Jakku, would be unsure of their existence and historical significance. As you yourself even mentioned, a Sith Lord ended up being the CiC of the galaxy, and hardly ANY of it’s normal citizenry would’ve known what a “sith” was- much less, what it’s relationship to the Jedi was.
Fast-forward more than three decades later on a backwater planet, and all you would conceivably have are shabby rumors, at best, about what went down between the so-called “last of the Jedi” and the unheard-of Sith.
again what has “seeing in order to believe” got to do with it? again i’ll use the FBI and even CIA as an example… the public knows their function within society, yet how many of us have seen them? yet we alllllll know about them, the government refers to them, we can look them up online or in history books its no secret. the jedi had a public serving role in republic.. their temple along with the senate building were based on the capital for allllllll to see… CLEARLY they were NO secret! be told. this whole “not many people would have run into one” is such a stupid reference and beyond irrelevant. How many people ran into the chancellor? or a senator for that matter? do they simply just not exist or were unknown by most because not many encountered them? now, the one thing i will agree on is the case of Jaku, but don’t forget we don’t really now the full story of the planet but yes people living on worlds such as that probably wouldn’t have known about jedi if they didn’t know much about the republic (which they weren’t even apart of anyway) plus by the looks of things, they weren’t exactly civilised societies with education etc. but lets talk about Han, whats his excuse? he’s from a Core world…. which we all know that core worlds were heavily involved in the republic. if you watch the PT, there is no question that the general public that lived within the republic new about the jedi. lets make a list of who we know knew of the jedi.
*Chancellor
*all senators
*all republic planet based governments/monarchs Eg; ruler of Naboo, prime minister of Kamino
* everyone who lived in the capital would have known.
* 10 year old slave anikan, watto, anikans mum, jabba (basically most of tattoine, an outer rim world lol)
* wookies
*Droids such as R2D2/C3PO/TC14
*jango/bobba fett
*basically anyone with a brain…(note that no one seems to question when a jedi just whips out a light saber or moves something using the force, gees maybe because they already know about them?)
the list can go on and on..
But really, the fact that the jedi played a role within the operation of the republic makes it certain that anyone within that republic knew of them and what their purpose was.. its ridiculous to say otherwise.
Actually maybe the Senate just kept the jedi a secret? maybe the senators never went back to their home world rulers and said “hey the jedi are like our police to protect us”, maybe it was just all one biiiiig secret from the public and no one ever asked what that building (the jedi temple) ever was, maybe no one understood when the chancellor publicy stated that the jedi tried to take his like, they must have all just smiled and nodded not actually understanding wtf he was on about… maybe when anikan and obi got Zam in that bar and said “jedi business go back to your drinks” everyone thought WTF is a jedi??!?!?! they all seemed to understand perfectly what he meant. the jedi were the police of the republic, everyone within the republic knew about them.. face the facts, its a plot hole in the story which george had every opportunity to correct or at least make flow better but didn’t.
If Jedi were so recognizable, then Watto wouldn’t have said: “What, you think you’re some kind of Jedi, waving your hand around like that?”
Implying vast swathes of the galaxy rarely ever encountered a Jedi. The Jedi became only ‘Generals’ as Leia notes (and that carries into dialogue between Kanan and his master). The Jedi were useless…they really were at the point where we start off in TPM. They were just used as investigators, ambassadors, couldn’t really fight within a conflict without the over-bloated and similarly useless Senate was. They were bureaucrats with swords. Its highly likely that they were already marginalized in lay-people’s minds by the time the Clone Wars start.
The Jedi’s presence in the galaxy’s consciousness probably lessened way before the events of ANH. We’re talking roughly 45 years after, on the Outer Rim, where this story likely takes place.
I can believe Han being skeptical of the force and surprised when hearing Luke is a Jedi Knight. About 20 years is plenty of time to be skeptical of magic if you have never witnessed it and his suspicion of myth and (his)stories in a world full of propaganda seems astute to me. There could likely be many individuals ignorant of historical events regardless of how well travelled they are, how remote in the universe they live or how poorly schooled they have been. That’s enough to suspend my disbelief anyway!!
whats 20 years? lol.. if you don’t know anything from 20 years ago, somethings wrong with you… I can tell you how the world was 50, 100, 200, 300, 1000, 2000 years ago SHOCK HORROR lol. history cannot be erased.. and even if it literally was as in the empire destroyed all history pieces of info… many many many people in lukes era were alive and well during the time of the republic, did the empire go around and erase all their memories so they didn’t tell anyone about the days of the republic and what that was all about? in fact the knowledge that there even was a republic pre empire seemed to be known in lukes era.. funny that, they knew about that, one would think the empire would have “erased” that too in their “erasing, memory wiping rampage!” say you were 40 at the time of EP4, if you couldn’t remember the republic days, somethings not right in your brain lol
Yea but you have to keep in mind, history is determined by the victor. The empire used massive amounts of propaganda and public brainwashing to validate what it was doing in the first place. Even the establishment of the empire was based on lies and manipulation because the Jedi were framed for something they didn’t do, IE trying to kill the chancellor. Also on top of that even in the time the Jedi existed they were already considered “Legendary” and “Mythical” because of the few numbers compared to the galaxy. At the height of the Jedi’s numbers their were fewer than 10,000 Jedi in the whole galaxy. Even in today’s standards on earth that’s a small amount of people compared to 7.2 billion. Compare that to 10,000 out trillions you can see why the Jedi were able to forgotten. Also considering the tyrannical dictatorship and police state government the empire was it would be much easier to manipulate what your people knew as fact and what they were taught. So their are no real plot wholes in star wars within that context because the empire had such a tight grip on the galaxy, especially considered for 20 years they had 0 competition as to whole controlled it. One last thing is in the prequels it is inferred that palpatine uses his dark force powers to cloud the minds of the senate and manipulate them as well so that’s why their was no front page news because most people didn’t even know what was happening until the empire was already formed because their governmental officials were directly brainwashed to know nothing.
Remember though, from the very start, in A New Hope, Luke had never heard of the Jedi until Obi-Wan told him. And Luke wasn’t a completely isolated character, he knew of happenings in the galaxy through friends at the academy.
In the years between ROTS and ANH, the Empire sought to erase all memory of the existence of the Jedi. It is natural then that Luke and most people of his generation had never heard of the Jedi before. What surprises me is that, 30 years later and following the fall of the Empire (assuming it actually fell), nothing has changed and we are basically back to where the galaxy was at the start of ANH. Again, the movie needs to give a very good explanation for why there is no New Republic and no new Jedi Order.
Now that is a “plot hole” in the making Mabruno…
I’ve never been this excited for a movie in my entire life. Kylo Ren choking up while talking to Vaders helmet is the best part of this trailer. I have 100% faith in Driver and believe the stories of this villain having alot of depth is true.
Agreed; Driver is an amazing actor. He will add something special to this role. I knew nothing about Daisy Ridley before this movie, but from what ive seen im extremely impressed. I feel attached to her already. I had a crush big time on Leigha when I was a kid, I have a feeling im gonna have a big crush on Daisy!
Is it me or the rain photo seems mandalorian helmets?
Thought the same! Can’t wait to see all those guys clearly. Also, have you seen one of them is particularly thin and has a staff? Could that be Rey? I think the transformation arc would be too fast if she falls to the dark side that soon, but all marketing indicates he has trouble with the Dark Side
That is correct, in all posters she is between the light side and the dark. Nevertheless I don’t think she turns to the dark side as soon as Episode 7.
Thought this particular knight looked very Mandalorian
True. Also if you look at the legs, they kinda have the shame shape as Rey’s. Maybe she’s a Fett.
You can see the rocket pack as well. I hope this is not Fett though. I know a lot of fan boys would love that and to bring another Mandalorian in may confuse the casual movie goer but with such a rich warmongering culture it would be good to use another

Not exactly the trailer I expected, but interesting nonetheless. It looks like the Jedi are indeed extinct and have become just a legend, which is pretty much where we were 30 years ago. I wonder how they will explain that ! Kylo Ren’s monologue with Vader’s helmet suggests that Vader is his role model, but could they be biologically related ? And, of course, the big question: who is the force calling. to ?
What about the supposition that the force awakens is literal, in that force gains a consciousness, a sense of self. Much in the same way the Jedi discovered to maintain their individualism in the choir infinite (afterlife), what if the opposite effect happened with the force – like a two way road. I know it sounds absurd . . .
when Kylo says “I will finish what you started”, Vader mask is shown.
The “WHAT” being : building an Evil empire based on a powerful renowned Sith, Vader.
I feel like he is simply obsessed with vader and is speaking like someone who speaks to a person beyond the grave. Almost like he thinks he can hear. And the “what you started bit” is killing off any and all Jedi.
My guess is killing off all the Jedi, destroying the Rebellion and ruling the galaxy.
Kylo is talking to Vader’s helmet as one talks to a grave. Vader is his role model and the person he wants to emulate. Obviously, he doesn’t know Vader’s full story.
I believe that JJ & Co. have simply decided to go the “the-Force-has-been-dormant-since-the-fall-of-Palpatine/Vader” route, so therefore the Force is “calling” the young up-n-comers to handle a new dark side threat. It’s an arguably lazy story device, but I’m thinking that it will be effective anyway. Simply put: Luke was the LAST of an old line, yet, the teacher of a NEW line. This has been decided to be his purpose and function. Ben Kenobi 2.0 but more whole and wiser. And I do believe Mortis will be involved in some shape or form.
It would be great if Mortis would appeare somewhere in following episodes. They are true aviator from Lucas for explaining the whole mystery of the Force.
One of the first things JJ and Kasden must have had to think about was did Luke “Pass on what he had learnt” and thus are there a bunch of new Jedi running around. By deciding “no” they had to come up with a reason of “why not”. The answer seems to be without the Sith the Force has been Dormant, thus Luke’s attempt to train a new generation failed, and he, without his powers, has vanished.
Rey I presume? It seems like a part of the conversation you here at the start with Maz asking Rey questions
I didn’t expect the look of the film would be so different from those of previous
six films. JJ definitely marks his signature on the cinephotography.
Nobody would expect Roger Dinkins from Star Wars movies, though.
thing is, Star Wars, Empire and Jedi all look very different from each other.
Not that different.
erm yep they did. Empire looks NOTHING like Star Wars. and Jedi has quite a bland flat look to it. the cinematography is wildly different in all of them. unlike the prequels which all look the same.
yes they do. no they don’t. yes they do etc etc 😉 Empire looks nothing like Star Wars cinematographically. Jedi is very flat and bland. Star Wars is quite gritty looking.
i agree. maybe not “very” but different indeed.
Truly outstanding trailer IMO. Gives us enough to ponder before December and leaves out any big reveals. I think they have done a great job of keeping the lid on things considering the mess that was made in the run up to TPA. Qui-Gon biting the dust revealed on the soundtrack before the movie was released springs to mind. The stand out points for me were:
1. Kylo Ren without helmet. I thought this was always going to happen as they would not have cast such an up and coming talent like Driver to play a masked villain for the entire movie. Ultimately anyone could have played Kylo Ren if that was the case.
2. Daisy Ridley is going to carry this movie by the looks of things and that is all good with me. Her intro in the trailer was great and I think that will be mirrored in the movie so that we follow her journey through the saga. Even in that short trailer, I’m already attached to her character.
3. The Knights scene feels like a flashback scene. I don’t see how this would tie in with the plot outlines that have been kicking around.
4. The red blurred laser must be Starkiller base flexing it muscles. There is also scene about 1.04 that shows a forest being destroyed with red hue all around it. I think this is Starkiller.
5. Glad there is no Snoke, no Luke. I want to be surprised as much as possible.
6. Feel like Maz is being set up like a Yoda type character. A wise sage that opens the doors for Rey to fulfil her potential
I’m looking forward to following Rey too. The OT from droids perspective, the PT from (predominately) male jedi, I hope this one follows more of a down-to-planet female view who’s not ‘royalty’.
Agreed. As much as it might be a slight carbon copy of Luke’s journey from farm boy to Jedi, that’s cool with me.
True, a young Skywalker on a desert planet, leaves on a journey of self discovery in a wider universe, joins the resistance movement against dark forces, is aided by an older mentor (who dies? I hope not), and culminating
in the destruction of space based weapons technology threatening a non-desert planet… ANH + TPM + TFA?
I don’t mind either Max.
I did find it odd that Maz KAnata is on the poster, but she isn’t shown in the trailer….. i am DYING to see the facial/motion capture. It will be the best EVER seen to date. I thought Avatar had great facial capture, and i am sure the tech has advanced. plus.. ILM… i mean yeah lol
I’m equally keen to see what they will do with Serkis as he is the king of motion capture
I’m assuming that’s her voice though. Possibly they’re still rendering away …
I am pretty sure it is Maz Kanata who says “the force is calling to you”.
I thought that was Leia. I thought Maz was the very first voice heard in the trailer.
Yeah, that is Lupita’s voice, but i mean we didn’t SEE her.
I also think the Knights scene is a flashback. Too many dead bodies around to have to show in a PG13 film.
What if Kylo has destroyed all of the other Knights over time in a power struggle?
But I think these guys will be our main protagonists for the 3 movies in a way that we can have 6 Darth Maul’s and 1 Vader (Ren).
This will be a massive merchandise & spin off opportunity.
Maz is probably the first person who recognizes that Rey is force sensitive and tells her that. However, we know from the leaked rumors that Luke is going to train Rey in Ep. VIII, not Maz. I wonder if Maz will even be in the other movies.
Looks to me like even this is possibly taken from only the first third of the film.
Not sure. The X-Wings flying over the water is surely in the last act. As are the battle scenes. The saber fight will last act also
RE the comments about the legitimacy of Han having to explain to Finn and Rey about the dark side/Jedi etc. Bare in mind that Finn was brought up as a Stormie ‘all I know is to fight’ – the First order would probably have their own mythology/propaganda.
Rey has conceivably grown up on Jakku and may know little outside of that world. So to them stories relating to the OT & PT may just be rumours and legends. Besides which, the galaxy is a big place and the events leading up to ROTJ may be regarded with scepticism by those not present to witness them.
Yes, that makes sense.
I love the fact Han is saying it is the truth about the Jedi in the same place where he old Ben he didn’t believe all that
The way Finn says that he was. “Raísed” to do only one thing suggests that he has indeed grown up inside the First Order, which makes his defection even more dramatiic. Maybe the force is calling to him ?
Raised to fight – but for who? There’s still an outside chance he is counter-intelligence – perhaps resistance or an force sensative ex-pupil of a Skywalker Acadamy. Or perhaps I’m way off! (Boyega recently said no fans come close to guessing his role but he could be stirring too)
Jedi are not raísed to fight. They use the force for defense, never for attack.
Tell that to these dangerous Skywalker offspring! 😉
According to the PT, Jedi are raised to behead and heart stab mofos.
Nope, They are raised to disarm them literally. Not sure where you got that information.
I watched their training videos. It ain’t pretty.
Haha, Well in theory it’s supposed to go down like that.
Doesn’t look like the Knight of Ren are all force sensitive, they look like a bunch of badass bounty hunters or mercenaries. Need me a clearer screen cap
Anybody else concerned about this screenshot I found? (I forget where) Films like this don’t leave frames in for no reason do they? Misdirection? I hope he survives and is just cut down when very outmatched…
Maybe is this shot taken after the fight with Kylo. And that light came maybe from luke hows gonna heal him?
One without the over exposure then…
One without the healing light 😉
just like lord of the rings haha
It looks like an X-Files scene…
Finn “Look Rey I know you was in love a little with that Poe Dameron dude but he’s dead now and I ain’t got no coat “

*Possible Spoilers*
Yeah, I’m kind of surprised they showed this shot.
There has to be an explanation why Finn and Rey are separated at the beginning of Episode VIII. My impression has always been that Finn would be badly hurt or even presumed killed at the end of TFA. Maybe that shot has something to do with that.
Max von Sydow character?
The rumor going around is that Max von Sydow plays a character named Lor San Tekka, a man in possession of information vital to the quest of finding the elusive Luke Skywalker. As an elder of a village on Jakku, Lor San Tekka is sought out by the heroic pilot Poe Dameron to find the missing Jedi’s whereabouts.
So there you go. Expect to see “Lor San Tekka” on some toy packaging sooner rather than later. You will soon be able to own a tiny plastic version of one of the best actors to have ever drawn breath.
While we’re here, let’s enter the second ring of spoilers. After all, what supposedly goes down with Lor San Tekka has been known for quite some time…
Still here? Okay. If the scuttlebutt is to be believed, Lor isn’t long for this universe. Soon after meeting Poe Dameron, his village is invaded by Kylo Ren and his First Order forces. Poe is captured and Lor refuses to give up any information to the Darth Vader-obsessed villain. So he meets the business end of that nasty, hilted lightsaber.
In other words, von Sydow’s role in the movie seems to be all about lending the early scenes in the story some necessary gravity before getting quickly dispatched. Take that as you will.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but every time when someone uses phrases like “force is calling you” or “you have that power to”, you can see Poe in the next shot… just saying. Can be coincidence, too.
Some people say Kylo Ren is Luke. But if you see this shot, he’s not wearing his mask and has the same Lightsaber as ‘Kylo Ren’
I don’t understand these ‘Kylo is Luke’ people. There is so much room for speculation in this movie but the one thing they focus on is questioning already known information.
Can’t be Luke…Adam Drive is not fat enough
Does kylo even know that Vader was “good” in the end? bit strange to idolise someone for their evil ways when that person redeemed themselves and returned to being a “good person” in the end…. I think he has his wires crossed, its Palpatine that he should be idolising, now that guy was a true evil class act… ps: will their be force ghosts in this movie? or have obi, yoda & Anikan just given up and stopped helping? what about Qui Gon, we were meant to assume he also could communicate with the living… will he be in it?
Vader =/= Anakin. You could say that when Vader was redeemed, he was again, Anakin.
yeah but did anyone tell Kylo this? he seems to be mislead in his delusion of vader being super evil? even the promise to finish what vadar started? ummmmm.. it didn’t get finished because vadar didn’t want to finish it, instead he finished the emperor. news flash Kylo.. you’ve got the wrong idea lol
“He ceased to be Darth Vader and became Anakin Skywalker. When that happened, the evil genius who was your grandfather was destroyed” Snoke lied to him … from a certain point of view
doubt it
As the Vader/Luke/Palpatine stuff in Jedi happened behind closed doors one would have thought Luke would have spread the word his old man came to his senses in his final moments, to spread good will about the story, but if not, then no, Kylie Ren wouldn’t have the foggiest Vader stopped being a **** for the last half hour of his life.
They’ll probably use this in the film; Luke reveals to Kylo that the person he idolises redeemed himself. That’d be a bit of a blow to Kylo’s psychology
Kylo then strengthens his resolve: “I will succeed where Lord Vader failed!”
!!! indeed, I assumed he’d crumble at this point, you point out otherwise is possible
Remember from the action figure that Kylo believes he is “immune to the light”, but is he really ?
Just repeating something from the other thread but maybe Kylo is talking to Snoke and not Vader. If Snoke is Plagius then the Anakin circle is complete
I still think that when there is a mask in a movie it is for a reason. I am not saying Kylo Ren is Luke but why have him wearing a mask and then already reveal who is beneath in Vanity Fair before the movie even comes out?
My (admittedly baseless) prediction is that there is more to the mask than just Adam Driver underneath it and that will be a major plot twist in the movie (or maybe the trilogy).
Maybe he’s a bit schizo..like 2 Face
Yeah, maybe more than one person uses the same mask so that sometimes its Driver and sometimes someone else, but we just assume it’s Driver the whole time…
Loving all the speculation. It seems the best way to defuse potentially damaging spoilers and, along with lowering ones expectations right before final screening, the best way to enhance the movie viewing experience.
Part of my “conspiracy theory” is based on the fact that we saw Driver in an X-wing pilot suit and, to my knowledge, that hasn’t been explained by anybody yet…
Possibly. These Ren enthusiasts all seem to be wearing masks. Other uses:
Breathing apparatus for other planet atmospheres, warmth on snow planets, enhancing dark powers (KOTOR legends), intimidation…
Well If you look good. The one with the mask has the cross guard lightsaber. And the person without mask has the same lightsaber. I don’t think he is someone else.
At 01:58-01:59 you can see Kylo is not wearing his helmet. He is having that long Adam Driver hair, so i don’t think Kylo is Luke. But there is something about him. Maybe he is hiding behind the mask, so his father (maybe Han) can’t see what he has become. Just my thought 🙂
Kylo to Han: “I am your son”..
I think Kylo kills Han, and then later on finds out that he was his father.
I also believe this to be the case. I also think Kira and Kylo are twins…we will find that out in Episode IX…This new trilogy will parallel the original one.
It´s like poetry it rhymes something something
So you still think her real name is not Rey ?
No, Rey could easily be a middle name. no one finds it weird that the names Kylo Ren and Kira Rey are so similar? I could be wrong of course, I am just playing the speculation game.
Remembering the original concept art called the character “Zorro”. There was a figure at the Greenham Common shoot that is 50-50 to be Driver. I’ve always felt that he has a Jeckyl and Hyde thing going with a double identity. My guess is he will be known to Han, Finn etc without the helmet, and his Kylo Ren identity will be a secret, and then in the end a big reveal. In the shot where he’s confronting Finn, there’s flowing hair and a lot of people think that means the mask is off at this point which would back that up.
Yeah, I’m suspicious of this as well. The interesting thing is that the trailer shows a whole group of “Kylo Rens” (aka the Knights of Ren). The way the film has been promoted, it’s not impossible we are being deceived (kind of like Padmé/Amidala but even more obscure); maybe the “Kylo Ren” we see in some shots is indeed Adam Driver, and yet in others, what we *think* is Kylo Ren might be another Knight of Ren.
Why do we think Kylo Ren is Luke? I keep hearing this and I kind of see why people would think that, but I just don’t think that’s the case .. I suspect we won’t see luke until the end and that he will be brought out of seclusion to help take on the new threat(s) reluctantly re-entering the conflicts in the universe.
hope they dont use those breathy , husky , earnest voices a lot in in the actual film … and just speak normally
yeah, I reckon the tone will vary though unlike the trailers
Looks amazing, sounds amazing, already has more emotion than most of the prequels..those dogfights look visceral…that shot of the stormies going over the rubble if you freeze it you can see the X wings closing in across the lake on their attack run. Nothing jumps out as fake looking, maybe a few too many bits of lens flare for my liking but if they nailed the story then we are in for one hell of a movie
I don’t think it looks or sounds amazing, but it looks character-driven with lots of strong, dramatic dialogue. That makes it different both from the OT and the PT.
I’m interested in how the Skywalker lightsabre got out of a dusty corner of that shaft on Cloud City
Good point! Hard to explain how is has been found!
The ‘opening shot’ of the MSW plot synopsis displays the lightsaber ending up at a certain location but the way it got there seems totally weird.
Didn’t it actually tumble out with Luke’s hand?
it could’ve tumbled out of Cloud City. I wonder how clear the explanation of its being found will be. I guess it’ll be like the ring from the lord of rings, the force guiding its way back into new hands
Could this be the opening scene of the movie… Finn his Tie-Fighter being shot while escaping a star destroyer.
There is always an action packed space shot at the start of a SW movie.
I think it will definitely be within the first ten minutes
No, the scene where Finn takes his helmet off inside a star destroyer hangar definitely comes first. That might be the opening scene, though.

I’m aware of some spoilers, but it’s terrible for normal fans to learn about them in a video like that 😛 I really like Mr Sunday Movie, but the spoilers weren’t necessary in a video like this.
Should I remove you think? I’m new to posting here.
No, it isn’t your fault 😉 Also, the spoilery things they mention are “well” known on this site I think.
“The galaxy’s biggest crybaby”. I can imagine Kylo Ren turning to the good side when he finds out what Darth Vader was like before the helmet came on

Bless..Similar to my own ! I welled up a little
Is that Daisy Ridley in BED? Mmmmmmm….
john Boyega’s reaction to Trailer
https://instagram.com/p/9DN_LbsCtp/?taken-by=john_boyega
What bit is JB reacting to?
The build up to the climax by the sound of John Williams crescendo in the background? The battle scenes seem to meet his expectations “yep, yep, yep” and I think his friend might be yelling “What!?” incredulously.
I guess his own lightsaber duel with Ren..
One thing is for sure: Finn doesn’t know how to wield a lightsaber from the shot we see.
https://instagram.com/p/9DN_LbsCtp/
Seems really dark and serious. I just hope it’s fun. And have some humour
Jar Jar Binks dies at the end… should make you laugh like a hyena
Despite all the secrecy, I actually think that, between the teasers, the trailer, the poster and the rumors, we now have a very good idea of what is going to happen in the movie, or at least, of how the plot evolves. The holes still to be filled are still who Rey and Kylo really are, if Finn will be force sensitive or not, where Luke is, and why the galaxy seems to not have changed that much in 30 years despite the battle of Endor and what everybody imagined would be the birth of a New Republic.
That was my thoughts exactly, it all seems so serious. I hope it’s a fun adventure like the OT was. As is, it’s coming across a bit Nolan-like, meaning dark and moody, which I hopes’ just the trailer. Can’t wait to find out.
Yeah but don’t forget that things have changed a lot since the OT, the audience is different, so they have to go with the wave. I don’t mean that they should put fun aside, but a “serious” turn was necessary… In any case, a PG-13 movie can’t be that dark…
I’m totally ok with dark. Remember Empire has a very dark tone to it(lightened up with flashes of wit and humor). I remember being irritated after seeing ROTJ with some of the more cutesy moments.
If you think a bit, it makes sense: we, as viewers, know
everything that happened with Luke, Vader, the Emperor, all the conversations
between Luke/Yoda/Obi Wan force ghost, Vader’s redemption, plan to temp Leia to
the dark side, everything. At the end of Jedi, as far as we know, Luke didn’t
tell anyone anything – at most, that he destroyed Vader. Only Leia knew the
truth of their parentage. Han knew Luke and Leia were siblings, but as far as
what we saw on screen, not Han nor anyone else knew Luke and Leia were Vader’s
kids. I think as fans we assumed that Luke told them everything, but I doubt
it.
As far as the galaxy at large, they only knew of the Empire
as a militaristic dictatorship. They likely had no idea the Force was in any
way involved in all the delicate machinations of the Emperor and Vader. So for
the galaxy to be in the shape it’s in, post-Endor: scattered, factional,
rumor-laden, still at war, makes perfect sense.
My goodness, been at work so couldn’t type, but oh my! This gets more and more special every watch. Getting super goosebumps and wet eyes when I watch this, man I am excited now! Can’t wait! 🙂
Throwing darts at a board here obviously, but I’m intrigued by the “what if the entity responsible for creating Anakin created Kylo” theory. He could pass for 30 years old, which would allow some overlap with Palpatine.
Anakin was the “Chosen One” who would bring “Balance” to the Force. He was “Created” by the Force. He achieved said balance when he entered Mortis and was involved in events that ultimately led to the deaths of the Father, Son, and Daughter, thereby ending the struggle between the Son and Daughter. My question is – where is the Mother? If she has come home to find her family dead she would be almighty pissed, and wanting to exact revenge on the one who destroyed her family i.e. Skywalker, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM… THE force has been “Awoken”
That’s as good as any wild speculation I’ve read. By “wild” I mean not based on anything we’ve already been told. Well done, sir.
Thanks! But I didn’t pull Mortis out of thin air, and whoever controls Mortis controls the balance of the Force…
Uh oh, he better not wreck it with lens flairs. I saw one for sure.
Anyone else notice that when when Rey opens the door at the very start of the trailer there are what seems like stars just before. Maybe this is the start of the film?
Great spotting! I doubt it’s the very start but I can imagine a transfer to this scene from an initial space based intro for sure.
Actually, they’re just small holes of a wall, look carefully.
I think thats just dust particles. I can’t image that after the crawl finishes we fade or jump to an interior shot. It will be the classic pan-up or pan-down.
Isn’t the opening post crawl shot believed to the lightsaber in space?
Did anyone notice that in the Knights of Ren shot, that the guy on the right in the back has a staff like the one Rey carries? Curious if this is a flash back and that is the same staff
Also curious if in that shot it is Snoke who is carrying the red lightsaber, and later Kylo takes up the same mask and lightsaber? Maybe Kylo/Rey at Luke’s Jedi Academy before the Knights destroyed it and they survived? Kylo is given the lightsaber and Rey, somehow, has that staff.
Trailer is amazing!
I don’t think Rey knows anything about the Jedi, expect the “stories” that are told about them. It remains to be explained though how Rey ended up on Jakku in the first place and why she was raised there if she is really biologically a Skywalker, as it appears to be the case.
The look on Finn’s face when Kylo Ren is about to strike is priceless!
He doesn’t control his fear yet. That requires training.
He might not survive this despite being raised to fight…
He will survive, but he will be either badly hurt or even presumed killed. That is why, I think, he is separated from Rey at the beginning of Episode VIII.
He doesn’t have the higher ground!
The trailer is generally awesome, but that bit sticks in my mind more than anything else.
He’s trying to make himself look big, but then that face and the little step back as he sees Kylo’s weapon light up. He is absolutely filling his pants.
The PT was infamous for some pretty shoddy acting performances, but that moment almost makes up for it all on it’s own.
Wow, the more I see the trailer, the more it grows on me.
Let it in…
Have you felt it?
For Return of the Jedi, Alec Guinness was physically on set performing with Mark Hamill. The transparency effect would be rendered in post.
What if … what if we haven’t seen Mark Hamill in the poster or in any trailer … because he’s already dead, and is a force ghost? (And that might be why Leia looks so close to tears a she leans on Han).
(I also believe Maz is Rey’s female yoda).
No way they wouldn’t show Luke’s death in realtime
The Luke and R2D2 short moment seems to be the same scenary of a First Order attack. So Luke could be part of the First Order. Or may be he just visited that site after the attack. What do you think guys?
Also I miss C3PO, but I guess he is with Leia, Chew with Han, R2D2 with Luke.
He may indeed be Kylo.
Well, it seems Kylo Ren is Adam Driver, I would not get why they could play with that. Even the last scene, Kylo vs Finn, I believe he is clearly Adam Driver without a mask. Remember Annir Leibovitz photos.
It looks more like Hayden’s Anakin then Adam Driver´s Kylo…
Remember the picture of Leibovitz of Driver in the snow, same hair, belt, dress…
Yeah, I am not disbelieving you, I am just saying that it is curious that he looks like Hayden in back.
I have read the Hayden could be in Episode VIII… who knows?
Please… no!
“My powers have doubled since the last time we met, Count”. Awful.
Haha, it doesnt depend on me. Probably he will be a ghost, isnt it? may be a clone…
Same thought, C3PO is nowhere to be seen? I have a feeling he is with Maz Katana and that this scene is an attack on her palace. The rebels then come to the rescue. Probably this all takes place after Han, Finn and Rey have visited the place. The trace of them leads the First Order to this attack..
Thanks, I had not get that!
I dunno how I feel about Kylo, Snoke & the Knights of Ren stuff…… I kinda just feel like it’s too late in the piece to just introduce new bad guys who have been no where to be seen in the past 6 eps, un known to palpatine/Vader.. For me it kinda of just makes palps/Vader look stupid now especially palps who was running the whole saga really.. I will only accept these new characters if they have something to do with Palps or Plagious, to me that then ties them into the story very nicely but I am in no mood to be told that these guys are serious business and have apparently just been hiding in the shadows all this time under palps nose. Fingers crossed Plagious is involved somehow, that’s the only way I’d accept palpatine not knowing of this new mob..
If they are legitimately just new characters and we are supposed to buy that this powerful Snoke existed without palpatines knowledge and has nothing to do with Plagious I would have just rather had Palpatine come back as a clone. That’s more believable anyway.
Palpatine has been dead for 30 years at this point. Snoke could have been a nobody back then and Kylo may not have even been born yet. (Adam Driver is only 31.)
I’m feeling confident that Darth Plagueis is pulling the strings here. Nothing else would make sense continuity wise…
He’s not in it. JJ answered this question at, I believe, Star Wars celebrations.
It was actually at SDCC. Kasdan made a joke and said, “who? Darth Vegas? Then JJ interrupted and just said, ‘as of now, Plagueis isn’t in the film.” or something to that effect and then quickly dropped it. I think there’s a strong chance Plagueis is Snoke…
Yup, you’re right about SDCC. We’ll see about Plagueis… Whoever is in it, it’s going to be great! 😉
And how old would Darth Plagueis be ? Over 100, I guess ? Well, maybe he’s from the same species as Yoda !
Seriously, I don’t think Plagueis is on TFA or any of the sequel movies.
He isn’t.
the galaxy is a lot bigger than your imagination…
Dude. Big galaxy. 30 years after the death of Palpatine and Vader. You don’t think shit could happen?
P.S. They don’t even have to have been BORN when Palpatine was alive.
*spoiler reference* there was a spoiler leak some months ago about Han being killed in the same scene where Kylo ren draws his saber in the first teaser. On this new trailer in the scene where Rey is crying, in the background there are trees and the ground appears snow covered – I think it lends credence to the original spoiler.
I’m not sure what she is crying over, but it looks like it could be wookie fur. If the original spoiler was correct, I would venture that both Han and Chewie die. It would make sense that Chewie dies if Han does – I can’t see him not immediately trying to avenge Han.
She is crying over Poe’s jacket, which is the same jacket Finn was wearing on the other shot at the Resistance base. So, it is everybody’s guess who that person might be.
I’d be sad if (when) Han bites it in this film. But Chewie going out would be devastating emotionally, imho, haha. Everyone’s lost their **** today
So just a theory.
We saw Kylos promo shots masked and unmasked, so we know how he should look like, but Han, Leia and so on don’t.
Then there is a scene where Adam Driver is introduced as a X-Wing pilot and a normal guy. At this moment, everbody in the audience know, that he is Kylo, because of the promos.
Then at the end of the movie, he takes of his helmet and BAM, it’s someone completely different.
Btw yeaaaah i saw the unhelmet picture. And yeaaaaah he looks like Driver. But maybe everbody should think this…
(SPOILERS)
I do think Kylo will indeed appear as a rebel pilot, as thatof leaked photo was a scandal in Disney and LFL, and after that, security in that location was really heavy.
It’s a great script move if all of a sudden we see Driver among the good ones while the audience knows who is. Besides, it has sense storywise because he acts masked as a bad guy and he can take advantadge of that in order to take information from the resistance.
The fact that Finn fights with an unmasked Kylo means that he has revealed to him. Probably Finn has known him in the resistance base, and probably Kylo got there tracking his ex-trooper.
We may even discover he’s the son of Leia and / or Han Solo. This intimate moments with Vader’s mask make me think Vader’s the grandfather.
The body that Rey is crying over. Speculation that there is Wookie fur on the right of the screen. To me, that’s not fur. It looks more like foliage in the background. The same can be seen on the left of the shot. The brown leather is a little giveaway. Either it’s Finn, Poe, or Han.
It’s Finn. Someone in the Cantina published a visual prove that is very convincing.
Would make sense. But Finn can’t be dead, only very badly injured after his Kylo Ren face-off.
force revive.
a link? please
sure 🙂 https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/28620712fb24e8a59fb4dcd8883fe0a29886da097b8a02b0d7e2476784287949.jpg
thanks so much!
shit! that looks convincing
But it’s true that behind Finn’s head, you can see kind of Chewie hair!
The rebel base shot with Poe and Finn was intentionally included to make it clear that the jacket she is crying over is the same that Finn was wearing. No matter what it looks, everybidy knows Finn will be on Episode VIII though.
He looks in really bad shape. Possibly loses an arm, the same arm he used to wield the lightsaber.
Well, it wouldn’t be Star Wars without someone losing part of his body, would it ? I’m not saying it’s gonna happen though.
Consider this. Kyle reported almost a year ago of seeing a picture of Kylo unmasked with Luke’s light saber drawn and Han drawing his blaster in a forest I believe. In the trailer we get a glimpse of Kylo unmasked in the forest. I’m curious of the chance of seeing a little more Luke then reported is still alive
– Kylo decimates Finn
– Luke shows up and beats up Kylo
– Han gets killed by Luke as Han sacrifices himself to save Kylo
– Kylo becomes the cloaked cyborg
This would ruin me tbh, storywise that would be great, but that would make everyone cry.
Holy fck I hope they wont do this. I would be great to the story but this would be too hard 🙁
I like your thoughts. Especially Han saving Kylo before Luke kills him. I think it would make for too much drama if Finn and Han both possibly come close to death. The scene in the snowy woods might just be the most talked about scene for years to come! So many possibilities!
I could accept Kylo killing Han (even if Han turns out to be his father) but NOT Luke. That would be most distasteful, like a handfull of excrement.
That was amazing. Anyone notice Boba Fetts marking on Maz’s palace. It’s front and centre. I can’t wait for this to come out. Theory, I believe Finn is a Windu.
It is a Mandalorian mark, not necessarily Boba’s.
FN/Finn is looking more and more like a cyborg or a clone.
Why ?
The designation instead of a name, the singular built in need to fight as if he’s programmed, the stoic expression, the history of cyborgs being pretty good with lightsabers. The statement that his role/arc is unlike any we’ve seen before. If he were just a defector who joined the rebels, that’d be a bit like Han’s arc.
I’d thought this for a while, then when the source of his name came out, (FN-) it reinforced my earlier belief. Could be wrong, who knows.
They don’t tend to sweat..or pant
I guess you have more experience with them, myself I’ve never seen one, so I can’t say for sure. But from what I understand a “cyborg” has both living, and robotic, parts, like Vader, who seemed to breathe pretty heavy. So yes, sweating and panting.
Try Blade Runner or Westworld
Have you seen Star Wars? There’s this cyborg named Darth Vader in it. He breaths heavy a lot, especially when fatigued in a fight.
Never heard of it
Sigh,
ahahaha
You’re stretching. Stormtroopers had designations instead of a name in the original trilogy too. And he doesn’t look like he’s going to be any good with that lightsaber wielding an O SHIT face when Ren comes at him.
Of course I’m stretching, it’s speculation, which can become tricky when you aren’t sure what tech exists in a fictional universe. If someone had told me Khan’s blood would be a magic cure for death in JJ’s last film, I’d have said that’s stretching(and incredibly stupid).
Finn Calrissian… Rey Skywalker Solo? just a Guess…
but it would be strange for a Calrissian to enlist 1st order though…
Finn is not his real name. He doesn’t actually know his real name and goes by FN 2167 (his stormtrooper designation). Someone (probably one of the good guys) decides to call him Finn then. At least that is what the rumors say and it makes sense now that the trailer proves Finn has been “raised” in the First Order, probably since he was a little child.
agree! – but it would be possible…
I bet the person that draws that association from FN to Finn is Poe Dameron.
Carlissian?? Thats too lame
probably… but we all know that JJ pulled some stunts before…
I don’t think so…at 39 seconds, you ear him say “I was raise to do one thing….I have nothing to fight for” – my guess is Finn has been raised by The First Order academy or whatever.
Noone has spoken about the all new fantastic music! It’s a first for the soundtrack to include a piano! 😀
That’s the key to it all
that’s true 🙂 loved the transition to Han and Leia’s theme – so sad and dark ( and yet lovely)
Indeed a piano score gives sth SW does not have. Also the ending music gave me goosebumps! Amazing!
They used Piano when Vader died to play his theme. I love the music though!
It was a harp, not a piano.
Piano is used for the AT-AT’s during the Hoth battle. But it is in a much different way. The piece definitely feels unique but still Star Wars.
Oh I wasn’t aware of that! How embarrassing! XD Thanks for the knowledge! 😉 Either way I’m so glad I preordered the soundtrack!
The piano solo section that opens that piece on the soundtrack was cut from the movie.
That low descending arpeggio that accompanies the walkers isn’t in the movie. I never noticed it wasn’t there before.
RIP FINN
We know he has a contract for ep viii
Luke shows off some Force Revive(?)
And while I’m on the subject, what the hell did QuiGon and Yoda mean when they were talking about a “vergence(?)” in the Force? I’m intrigued…
Episode 8 is when the true terror will be revealed…
I just hope they acknowledge the Emperor. While Vader got more screen-time, in the Star Wars Universe the Emperor ran the show, not Vader, it would be Palpatine’s work they were continuing.
Indeed, the Emperor was known throughout the galaxy. Vader was only his henchman and probably even ranked below Tarkin in the Empire’s hierarchy.
But it appears Vader is what drives Kylo personally and gets his motivation to carry out tasks. So we’re getting to know his personal ambitions aside from the first order or Snoke’s command.
Palpatine was more of a menace and a bit of a phantom in that regard….
I’m still not sure which way the writing team is going with this, but I hope you’re right. Politically, and as far as Jedi/DarkSide matters go, he would loom heavily over any events in the film.
Anyone spot Jar Jar’s grave yet?
What if Luke is Kylo, but like Palpatine he is duplicitous in that his followers believe he is evil, when he is really good and his real mission is the complete destruction of the Empire and their control. And like some knew Palpatine as evil like Count Dooku and Darth Mal, some will know Luke as a good Jedi Master and he’ll only be seen this way in a few scenes. Most of the scenes of Palpatine were while he pretended to be good. Few were of his Darth Sidious true identity. And as many knew Sidious only as Palpatine, in the Sequel Trils, many will know Luke as the evil Kylo so that Luke can control the destiny of evil into oblivion. That could be what is meant, if Luke is Kylo, by telling the Vader mask he’ll finish what he started, the destruction of the dark side, since Vader’s final act was to toss Sidious into the Abyss. Just thinking outside the box, while still being inside it.
well personally I think this one is too far stretched. Kylo says “I will finish what you started” and the next shot is him and KoR in the middle of slaughtered (according to leaks) Jedi from the New Academy. pretty straight forward. once again, I will dub what was said before, outside of Luke, Han and Leia, I doubt anyone knew of Anakin’s turnover. I think Vader is still, 30 years later, an impersonification of evil for all but these couple of people. look at this, Vader’s cremation (which is, what I’m getting from TPM, a honorable Jedi burial ritual) is conducted by Luke alone, not even involving Leia. like a family secret.
Kylo’s helmet is off in this trailer revealing it is not Luke.
Ren says, that he complete, what Vader started. But maybe in a positive way, because Vader started to be good in the end. Ren doesnt have to complete Vaders evil kind of things, because they already were at the top.
Or he might want to finish another goal Vader had, taking Luke over to the dark side
Anyone notice Chewbacca has what looks like a bandage on his right arm? I have a feeling Chewie may have a bigger role than a co-captian
The Knights of Ren were established by Luke as the New Jedi Order, as well as a darkhorse to destroy the Sith once and for all
I read a lot of “but Kylo doesn’t know that Vader turned good at the end” comments today. Even if Kylo knew the events related to Vader’s death(excluding ghost Anakin), would he care? The only conclusion he could really draw is that Vader loved his son, not that he had any political or philosophical change of heart. He presumably hasn’t talked to ghost Anakin(If he had, it would negate the entire motive), wasn’t there for “tell your sister, you were right about me”, and I doubt Luke was doing a lot of talk shows telling his story to alien Larry King.
Luke from Tattooine, what can you tell us about the second Death Star?
“Daddy? Is that you? “
Can you please stop speculating that Kylo is Luke? Driver is 3 heads taller than Hamill.
Agree, but if I were 100% spoiler free as many on Twitter are, I’d probably have some even dumber theories about the film than I do with the benefit of spoilers.
mandalorian symbol spotted on frame 1:39. also that red robot has very distinctive guavian enforcer features..
Perhaps that robot is a spy of some sort for the Enforcers.
Or the Enforcers are Luke’s spies on the galaxy!
I like that idea! I think most of us are going to need some oxygen tanks when we go see this film!
Surprised no one caught that Kylo Ren has no mask on when he approaches Finn with the lightsaber
I saw it instantly, kind of goes without saying…
It’s part of what’s fueling the “Luke’s the one in the mask” folks.
We haven’t see yet in a trailer, Luke, Snoke, The Vicar (Max Von Sydow), Maz Kanata and barely seen General Hux…..what are they hiding from us!!
I hope they are hiding lots, because I felt like I had seen everything in the trailer already, which I hope again was their point.
That’s my thing as well. The only 2 things I ask of TFA is that it be good, and not obvious. So far, it looks like they didn’t take the obvious easy path in the writing room, so I’ve got half of what I wanted already.
yea I was genuinely surprised by the lack of Hux, Phasma, Leia (outside of the 2 sec shot), 3P0 in trailer. I think there’s gonna be one more before December 16th
3PO’s absence surprised me as well. Tony’s the only person who’s had spoken dialogue in every film, he’s the voice of the franchise. Perhaps his scenes occur in a setting they aren’t willing to show us just yet.
The only thing more exciting and fun than the trailer is the speculation on here! Love it!
Me too. Strange how some seem so determined to squash any speculation they doubt is plausible. Speculation is exactly that, and we’re just a bunch of Star Wars kids throwing darts at a board and having fun with the possibilities.
One of the things that is most promising about this are the voices:
Rey’s accent is nice, not too pretentious,
Also I like Kylo Ren’s voice, very much Adam Driver’s voice, but with a subtle, Vader-wannabe distortion,
I like the first voice who says “Who are you?” [Maz Kanata?],
but actually, the voice here that resounds most with me is JB’s accent.
JB’s accent here is rather Trans-Atlantic but still pretty british, but it’s not annoying in the least – I also really like JB’s sincerity in the sound-clip, compared to the stuff The Hayden said in his transatlantic voice, JB’s delivery of the line “but I’ve got nothing to FIGHT for” really resounds emotionally [for me anyways].
You see, in all the interviews, JB comes across kind of cocky and childish, which kind of had me nervous about his annoying/not annoying ratio on-screen.
But hearing the kind of way he talks here, he comes across much more sincere and strong an individual.
An interesting contrast to the choices of Mark Hamill and The Hayden. Those two actors were always the scrawny type and extroverted.
JB onscreen here actually calls to mind his role in “Attack the Block”, where he played a quiet, silent-protagonist type who is very tough and very introverted.
I’m starting to look forward to JB’s character the most.
Yes!! So happy with this trailer. It’s perfect. Only bad thing is no Luke. Just one shot of his face would be nice. I love Kylo rens voice. I need to get my ticket!! Only 2 months away!! 🙂
At least we know he’s there from the second teaser trailer.
When the camera zooms at him at 1:40 Hans says they’re real. Imo its a hint for that is Luke.
Don’t like some of the cinematography with the camera moving around.. makes it feel less like Star Wars.
The OT was made in the 70s and 80s, using the cinematographic conventions of the time. Those conventions have evolved since then. The new films can’t use the old conventions and expect a modern audience to connect to and enjoy it.
I love it. It makes the movie even more real, even more moving. One of the worst cinematography in movie history was the preqels. A camera and B camera to dialogues, stable or slowly moving camera for action. TFA uses todays cinematography and it is a massive improvement on the preques imho.
The editing worries me more than the cinematography (although I’m not seeing a lot of great composition there in what we have so far, and WAY more of the XW battle looks like it came out of Battlefront rather than a major motion picture than I’m comfortable with). Fast camera moves are fine as long as the editing establishes place and movement well. I haven’t really seen JJ pull that off particularly well…yet.
My theory: Finn stands his ground against Kylo but, because Finn has no Jedi skills, Kylo bests him. Who comes to the rescue? Luke Skywalker, decked out in Jedi robes and wielding his green lightsaber. Why do I think this? Two reasons. First, what a ‘make the crowd cheer’ moment. Second, think about JJ for a minute: he’s a Star Wars fan. He grew up with it, it’s in his blood. He has a chance to shoot a full-on, real Star Wars film with the original cast. What director would pass up the opportunity to direct at least one scene of Mark Hamill as Luke, kicking some ass? Are you telling me he’d turn down the opportunity to have one of the greatest cinematic reveals of the past couple decades? Would you squander that opportunity on one scene at the very end of the film of Luke being handed a lightsaber? Or would you go balls-out and have a scene of one of cinema’s greatest heroes kicking some serious ass?
I was thinking the same. Maybe someone, Kylo or Rey or both, will feel a strong force presence and assume it’s the other. Then it’s revealed to be Luke that they felt when he pops up.
I dig it. I like the idea of some lightsaber action but I can’t imagine Kylo can hold his own for long against Luke.
That sounds awesome, and done right would be one of the greatest scenes in Star Wars ever. They could still finish up where they rumoured to, L just takes ‘x’ with him.
I agree. JJ wouldn’t pass up putting Luke in robes with his green saber. Fans will be let down if we don’t see him wield something or at least use the force to some capacity to scare off Kylo from finishing off Finn. (a la Obi scaring off the Sand People when Luke was knocked out)
Luke will not fight. It would not be as bad as Yoda fighting in the PT, but fans don’t always know what is best.
You do not want the good guy to be the all-powerful. That makes for a bad story. You want the good guy to have a story arc and overcome a challenge. Rey, she grows and accepts the force to become powerful. Simple story retold 1000 times.
Luke fighting will be silly, but Luke may be powerful in a sense he doesn’t need to cause violence. Jedi’s are only suppose to use violence as a extreme last resort.
It’s possible he may do something on screen using the force that we have never seen before which doesn’t have to mean fighting but “making things even” or “opening Kylo’s eyes and mind”.
Either way, it looks like the Resistance/Finn/Rey have a tall task with taking down this “Starkiller” of a base. A planet that can turn into a weapon and possibly go into hyperdrive/space to travel is pretty insane!
I like your take on it… especially “opening eyes and minds”. There has always been a strong sense of morality in Star Wars, the good vs evil, that reducing the good to the “violent” ways of the evil seems counterproductive – I mean, certainly, we have already been there before… (PT trilogy anyone?)
You are totally right about the PT and violence. I feel like the duels were mainly between Jedi and Sith besides the beginning of the clone wars in that arena with all the Jedi versus the droids/dark side and Obi versus Grievous. The droids as a whole made the PT really impersonal.
This is why I feel like Finn has to be “somebody” that is being kept hidden from us. Sure he’s a warrior looking for something to “fight for”, but it doesn’t make sense for him to go into a battle against Kylo unless he is a Jedi or in-training. Maybe JJ is totally throwing out the Jedi versus Sith and trying to create his own lore.
I had the same idea.
Also, I presume Hamill didn’t get back in shape to be a robe model. (See what I did here.)
He will fight!
For all the conjecture about what *could* be, I believe you’re right on the money about what *will* be. It makes the most sense and is completely logical. I just hope that Luke keeps his light saber clipped to his belt. Being the greatest Jedi Master of all time I would like to think his mastery of the Force transcends the need to dance around in a sword fight…
I think the ship taking off at :26 is Boba Fett – it sounds like the Slave One. The wreckage in the lower right hand corner might be what’s left of Jabba’s sail barge. The female voice at the beginning and end of the trailer sounds like Leia to me too.
It seems more like Slave II
I hope I’m not the only one that screamed at the top of her lungs, waking up the whole neighborhood and being hit by flying shoes.
SO EXCITED, AND SO GLAD I GOT MY TICKETS!!!
I screamed like a little girl when I bought mine too! Right before Fandango crashed too!
I wasn’t that lucky. I bought mine this morning, in a theatre I don’t wanna go to, and in seats right next to the screen. =c
Oh no! I’m sure you’re going to see it a couple times though, that’s the good thing about movies! You can see it over and over and over again! I know I will!
WOW. Loved it. Minimal dialogue and no plot points given away at all! The music is beyond amazing. Williams really went all out. The shots look really original and different. Many of the shots scream JJ Abrams but it looks like he went out this normal shooting technique to shoot some more interesting shots. That last shot seeing the look on Finn’s face before he duels Kylo is SO scary good. I got chills seeing the look Finn gives that saber of Kylo’s.
Han is totally playing Obi-Wan in this movie. I wonder how much time he spent with Leia and Luke after RotJ because he might possibly know a lot about the force and could possibly have been taught by Leia or Luke in some ways of the force. The Sith & Jedi are nothing more than old stories and myth it seems. I love that.
So Maz and the pirates are actually Mandalorians? Daisy Ridley easily looks the most natural in her role and I’m excited to see her arc unfold on screen. Boyega looks bad ass. Period. So does Kylo. Wish I could have saw more of Poe but maybe he has some really awesome scenes and they are saving that for the film.
No Luke. Only Maz voice. Little of Leia. No R2. No C-3. Not a lot of Chewy or Poe. No Hux and very little of Phasma. No Snoke? They are hiding all the good stuff! This trailer is shrouded in mystery!
Side question: Is it possible Luke used the force to erase the memory of Leia and Han or just Han, or even Han begged Leia or Luke to erase his memory of his children who could have possibly been lost or kidnapped? Of course this means Kylo and Rey are his kids with Leia. Maybe Leia knows but Han wanted to forget and couldn’t handle life with his kids gone? If I was Han and Rey was my daughter now found, I wouldn’t have let her go on some damn mission. We would have hopped on the Falcon and went straight to the safest place in the galaxy.
Luke must be in some serious meditation….he’s gotta be feeling all the chaotic action/adventure going on!
How do we know they’re Mandalorians? I must have missed that.
I’ve been reading blogs and comments and fans are pointing out the symbols on the outside of that castle-like structure that Han, Finn, Rey & BB-8 are walking towards. It has to be when Han is taking the heroes to see Maz. It could be possible the pirates in the castle or even Maz herself are Mandalorians. Maybe they are just descendants of Mandalorians but haven’t been fighting against or with the First Order.
Oh yeah I see the symbol on one of the flags. Interesting.
There’s also a lot of other flags that are other random symbols. An unusually large amount of them are actually podracing symbols and people are suggesting that Maz or even Max Von Sydow’s character is an old podracer that knew Anakin and can tell his story.
Thanks Matt! I actually just saw a post about what you’re referring to, it can’t just be Easter eggs though, JJ is way too nerdy to just place symbols and flags like that and even show it to us before we see the movie! I love how the new trailer raises so much more questions and speculation! It’s awesome for us as fans!
But didn´t JJ say the he would never refer to the prequels?
LOL he did right? I believe JJ says a lot of things that end up coming back to bite him in his arse because he says things in the moment and doesn’t want to give away things to us. (which I don’t really mind)
I loved the OT and PT. I saw the PT in theaters growing up so I think of it much different than older fans who despise the PT. I feel those symbols are meant to show history of what the heroes are walking into. If they are indeed ex-pod-racers or Mandalorians, I’m sure they are in fear of the First Order just as the Resistance are. I hope whoever the “pirates” are they end up joining the fight against the First Order.
Where did he say that? Disney and Lucasfilm have been VERY adamant that the prequels are part of the story and haven’t shied away from them as of yet.
Having checked the poster, Maz is wearing a pair of goggles that do resemble those of Anakin in TPM.
I’ve seen that yeah. I wonder if there’s a group of people (Knights of Ren) who serve Vader to a degree and want to finish what he “started”, then a group of people (Maz & the pirates) who idolize Anakin Skywalker and his history as a Jedi before turning to the dark side? That would make for a very interesting sub-plot.
What if… What if what Vader “Started” was just a jigsaw puzzle? A really huge jigsaw puzzle.
How long will Kylo’s quest for Anakin’s lightsaber stretch? I’m guessing he has it by the end of the film, otherwise it’ll turn into “the precious” of the trilogy, which might be a bit too much.
Still can’t reconcile why Obi Wan gave Luke that particular saber in ANH when it had been used to kill (in anger) so many innocent beings (he could have given Luke his own saber, or even made a new one)… does make a strong connection to the dark side and an excellent reason why Kylo is obsessed with it (is it “cursed”?). But I agree, making it the “precious” of the trilogy would be disappointing…
When Obi Wan gave that saber only one movie was done, and it was a movie with an ending, without squels, without Lawrence Kasdan. In that movie, in SW IV A New Hope, there was not any detail that could make you think Anakin was Darth Vader… that is the surprise of SW V Te Empire Strikes Back, the twist in the script was that. With some pieces of the 1st movie they made Darth Vader father of Luke. If you watch the movies, that was not planned in the 1st movie, mostly because they didn´t expect to make any sequel, just a Sci-fi movie, and of course not 3 prequels about Anakin becoming Darth Vader.
Resuming, when Obi Wan gave the saber, he didn´t know the whole plot yet, that was the reason.
Even back in early 1978 (SW was still in theaters!), we assumed the name “Darth Vader” was chosen because it sounded a lot like ‘Dark Father’…. There were lots of us who thought that…
Coincidence. Lucas didn’t make the father decision until well into the very last draft of the Empire shooting script. Stroke of genius and I wish he was honest about it rather than pretend he had it all planned. It actually demonstrates a more creative mind to admit he hit on the idea nearly last minute.
Sure. But it was a coincidence that had a lot of us thinking Vader was Luke’s father.
As to *when* Lucas made the decision, we’ll never know; that’s inside his head. We can only know when he told others what he was thinking.
Light sabers do not kill people….people kill people. When will you left-wing liberal nuts understand that light saber control doesn’t work?! If you make light sabers illegal, then only the dark side will have light sabers….and then you will be sorry.
Ha ha, I see what you did there. Shame it’s such a serious subject ’cause that was gold Jerry, GOLD!
LOL good stuff!
“Jaina Solo, daughter of Han and Leia, came to Fett asking to be trained, given the Mandalorians’ famous reputation as legendary warriors against the Jedi.”…
My guess: *spoiler warning*
Rey and Finn meet Han, Leia and Maz. Maz talks about an old man, who can help (von Sydow). Han helps Finn and Rey to get there. Sydow is the old Boba Fett. They think he helps them, but he’s just the same cold bounty hunter.
Ren arrives at night, and so on. Fight between Finn and Ren…
What is in the air at work? My eyes are watering like crazy.
I want to scream it from the heavens!
LOL.. 30 years after the death of Vader and the Emperor.. the Rebellion still hasn’t defeated the Empire.. LOL.. give it up.. Even Luke got bored with it and went on his own way.
He he, maybe Luke thought “Hell, the old man was right. I’m the only one powerful enough to rule the Galaxy and end this pointless conflict…”
Here we are, 30 years after the cold war, and yet there the Russians go attacking the Ukraine, or how about the wars in the middle east? What comes around goes around. Wars begin and end, and then begin again, over and over.
what were the last words spoken? Just_____
“…let it go…the darkside never bothered me anyways…”
ah…”just let it in….”
Well, I was close anyways.
That whole “let it in line” reads as weird. First off, it sounds kinda pervy, and Secondly…according to Yoda..the force surrounds us, bins us, and penetrates us (ok that’s kinda pervy too, I guess)..but the point is that the force is everywhere, it may be stronger in some than others, but you don’t have to let it in…it’s already there.
First, that could be out of context and we just don’t know. Second, it actually does make sense. Just because the force is around us and part of us, doesn’t mean everyone accepts it or wants it. The “just let it in” comment probably means you have to accept it. Accept that it’s part of you and let it into your life. Don’t fight it.
FINALLY Got tickets!!!!
My dumb theater didn’t even know about it yesterday at all! They went on sale this morning though and I got first showing. Whew.
Hmmm. Well, it’s weird – there are some great things in the trailer (not loving that it’s Han who is telling the kids about the darkside), and a bunch of things that stir nostalgia, but…I’m not feeling the trailer as a whole. I liked the previous two, and wanted to like this one, but it just never achieved a good rhythm or reached a real crescendo, and just sort of stops.
But you will still end up seeing it…
Is that supposed to be like an automatic “I win the thread!” thing? Yes, I’ll see it, what’s your point?
It honestly came across as a really negative rant, which I did not get the point of since you’re still going to see it.
Did anyone notice that when Rey’s talking to Han from 1:05 to 1:16, it is the “Leia theme music” playing in the background…Rey Skywalker-Solo.
That’s actually the Han/Leia love theme. Leia by herself has a different theme. The “love” theme can also be considered to just be Han’s theme, given the way it’s used throughout ESB/ROTJ.
My new film, based on part of the trailer, Han Solo’s Flashback.
https://youtu.be/DVl4MYER0Zc
That was so well done! Gave me chills!
Thank you very much!
very nice!..maybe should have a clip of han being tortured by vader when he says “dark side”.
Fantastic work! Gave me the chills as well!
First post ever on this site; just wanting to say how much I love this trailer and can’t wait for the actual movie! Everything looks promising, the visuals are spectacular and the story looks to be terrific!
My only wish is that the Kylo and the Knights of Ren remain an ongoing threat throughout the trilogy, I know Snoke will be a consistent menace, but I would love to see more of the Knights fleshed out in the three films.
SWNN, you’re an amazing site, keep up the great work!
Vfx side by side from the last teaser to todays trailer. Just an observation on my part. Amazing trailer!
Out of the 17M views I’ll take responsibility for a good 10M. I freakin love this tailer.
If I had to choose anything I dislike, it might be that huge robot. It’s a bit prequel-ish, in the obvious bad way.
Eh, if anything, it reminds me of KotOR. It’s got that “old” style to it.
Wow, so many comments! I want to be the first one to read them all! (Time to go to bed now Annie)
Be brave – and don’t look back Sifo.
I’m carving a japor snippet for you to remember me by…
There is not any clue in “A New Hope” to expect the Darth Vader was Luke´s father, that is a fact.
In the first versions of Lucas, Luke was the role of a Han Solo type!
It is easy to write our own story after it has happened.
But the thing is that “A new hope” was conceived as an unique movie, not a trilogy, there was not a reason that you could suppose Luke and Vader were family, why would be that?
Sigh
Indeed!
and the camera sweep around poe and finn by the xwing..i swear ive seen that exact same shot in one of JJs star trek movies.
Whats the point of these pictures? Take any 2 action scifi movies and put them side by side and there are going to be A LOT of things that look alike. Also directors all have their own little way of doing things, so their movies are always going to share similarities. These Trek vs. Star Wars comparisons are really dumb. I mean come on, take any 2 movies with with space ships, aliens, robots, light speed travel, and you are going to have a sh*t load of stuff that looks the same.
Then I guess it’s good that I didn’t post my side-by-side idea?
(Knights of Ren vs. Monty Python’s Knights Who Say “Nee”)
which would have been followed by …
Kylo Ren vs. Monty Python’s The Black Knight
“It’s only a flesh wound!”
People are just bitter and want to find something wrong with everything! Just because they have similiar shots doesn’t mean its going to somehow not be awesome
..
Elgh..
I noticed this one and some sound effects sounded like ST, but maybe they haven’t finished those yet and will be changed.
I had a thought.. In the trailer right before we see Leia hug Han what if he says “Well your Highness I guess this is it.” right before the final battle and she grabs him and hugs him like that. That’s classic J.J. and even re-hashed that would give me some feels.
The only thing better than my feeling when i watched this trailer was the my childrens reaction when they watched…pure amazement and joy! The powder of the force
“A new hope” had a begining and one ending, like any of the Indiana Jones movies for example, there was not any evidence of a trilogy.
As you know “The empire strikes back”, had an open end anouncing the next movie.
As I have said to you, from the first Lucas plot they created 2 roles from one, Luke and Han. Of course he had many different plots, but until they are not in the cinemas… that´s nothing.
Do you think Kasdan and Abrahams have/had not different plots actually… we are sure.
PSA: Star Wars is not made with just cinephiles in mind; it’s made for the masses/general population.
That is all.
Look how scared and afraid Finn look when Kylo ignites his saber with pure hate and anger….
This scene is too dumb…
It seems rather genuine, imagine yourself in it. I loved that scene!
Genuine??? People with sabers should be the ultimate badass, not showing any kind of fear…it’s even embarassing too see that…
Good Sir, I think you are lost – this is not Star Trek forum, not captain Kirk throwing himself out of the ship into space with badass face. When Finn says “I’m not afraid”, then Yoda says “You will be”. That might be Finn’s first ever lightsaber fight. Definitely not Kylo’s first. Chill out 🙂 We don’t know what is the context. I saw it the first time and it convinced me… it clicked seeing how Kylo is. But this is just me, maybe you’re right and we will laugh at the cinema seeing them in that moment 🙂
Agreed… Finn is just hoping to defend himself… and even the way Kylo is approaching shows he isn’t remotely worried. Finn hasn’t had time yet to learn! Sets up a good rematch… assuming all involved survive.
Your an idiot. Go troll the Hunger Games site please.
Man, look at the scene…i never seen anything like that in any star wars movie…if there something that was cool in the prequels it was the light saber fights…now, they manage to even destroy that, with a fight between a crazy berserker and a guy who can’t use a sword…and no Luke skywalker…if Han Solo truly happens to die in the Force Awakens, than we have no movie…unless they are holding serious plot twists and info, but I really doubt that…
You should advice about possible spoilers alert, isnt it?
So yes, it doesn´t make sense.
When OW takes the Anakin saber in their fight, it is because he thinks he probably would die from the injuries, or because he thinks he didn´t deserve that Jedi saber.
I don´t know if OW could know it was the trigger of anything.
And also the saber was lost in EP5 as all we know.
I can see some kind of fetishism in the teasers and trailer from Kylo Ren, but I am not sure that it could have a more special meaning than just simbolic, and that is more than enough.
One thing that has worried me more is how Dameron survive to the tortures.
Torture is often *not* meant to kill, but to coerce or extract information.
Well, I considered he could surrender give the information and became a mol after I watched the encounter with Finn in the rebel Base, because Finn is already wearing the jacket.
For a moment I though Finn looked at him thinking “mmm that face is familiar”… but I don´t think so, it seems they know each other.
We have these images, in what I believe is chronological order:
1.Finn as a stormtrooper.
2.Dameron captured.
3.Dameron tortured.
4.Finn in the desert, wearing as a stormtrooper.
5.Finn in the desert wearing Poe jacket.
6.Finn and Poe meet in the Rebel Base, and we can see the Millenium Falcon.
It could happen that the First Order destroyer bridge blow up was the moment Poe scaped, who knows?
The one character we do not see for even a single frame in any of the teasers or trailer is C-3PO.. his part must be awesome to have them hold back from even a single frame of all that footage. Just saying. Cheers!
You’re right…this is a little strange..
And then we see him in the International Trailer…
I believe I am the first to notice that Kylo Ren is standing in exactly the same spot Vader is standing in episode 5.
The windows are slightly different but the lights underneath are pretty much exactly the same. It’d surprise me if this wasn’t the same executor class star destroyer.
Welcome to new Star Wars!
