Looks like the first order got a hold of the laser cannon from the death star or something. But what use is it when you can destroy a planet but aren’t mobile to use it?

It says it can destroy an entire SYSTEM, so maybe it can make stars go super nova (STARkiller) regardless of the distance

One hell of a distance though to be effective. The Suncrusher the concept is based upon from the Legends books is at least a more plausible method.

I think it might be the combo of the Suncrusher and the Galaxy Gun. Say you have a missile that can blow up stars, now imagine you have a gun that can shoot missiles across the galaxy through hyperspace.

My thoughts exactly. If they’re trying to avoid making the movie seem like a rehash, this isn’t the way to do it! That being said, I’m sure they’ll pull it off and we’ll all be blown away when we see Starkiller base in action.

Everything we know about this movie SCREAMS ‘we are making a newer version if A New Hope.’! Something hidden in a droid, desert planet, bad guys out number good guys, 1 Jedi, super weapon etc. If this doesn’t SCREAM rehash then I have no clue what dose!!

Is no one else concerned with the implications of Starkiller BASE (station) being a weapon that can “destroy entire star systems”? So much of what’s coming out is looking very New Hope 2.0. I’m still very excited, but it’s a concern of mine.

It screams a rip-off of the Suncrusher concept from the EU. This for those not in the know is a starship that is capable of making a star go supernova. A starship seems a more plausible way that a fixed base..

I just wished the film dropped the super weapon angle. With a title like TFA it could of been cool to have the First Order creating a unit of force-users bent on the dark side, or at least have the dark side of the force as a part of the mechanics of a new super-weapon (which I suppose it might be, but I very much doubt).

It’s ripping ideas, which means TFA becomes a simple rehash of everything that’s be done before.

Hasn’t anyone noticed there are a ton of elements taken from the EU for this movie…? The possibility of Han actually having 3 kids, Rey paralleling Ania Solo, etc. why do yall think they cut the EU? To take elements from it and warp them for a more original perspective. Just hold tight it’s going to be amazing. I don’t even know why some Star Wars fans are Star Wars fans, if all they are going to bitch about everything little thing.

The idea of it being A New Hope 2.0 is getting me really excited about TFA. I mean, it might actually be a good movie! And we can all forget the PT happened, and live in a world where “Star Wars” only refers to something awesome!

Star Wars has reoccurring themes and elements so it’s only obvious there will be things from the last two trilogies that we will again in these new films. And the PT was the shit, don’t even act like you hate it when you probably have all the collectables from the PT you could buy.

I can`t figure out what this super weapon is. But i`m really starting to wonder if the ice planet is a rogue planet ? One that`s not fixed in an orbit around a star and drifts through space indefinitely directionless. If they could find away to use gravity or something to steer it slightly.

They actually really exist or are theoretical.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_planet

In empire strikes back, the rebels fired an ion cannon from the ground into space, to clear a path. So its possible to fire from a planets surface.

If you add 30+ more years of technological progress and research on top of what the empire already had, who knows what the first order have devised.

    • September 4, 2015 at 11:03 pm
      Permalink

I like the rogue planet idea. But I think you are closer with your second statement. I believe this will be a giant surface weapon that can fire anywhere in the galaxy (a la the galaxy gun). It would seem WAY more trouble than its worth to steer a rouge planet rather then just build another death star that you can pilot exactly to anywhere.

So basicly Starkiller base is the galaxy gun meets the suncrusher? Man these Villians sure do love their superweapons. I’m ok with it as long as it doesn’t marginalize the death star’s power. The problem with the EU superweapons was they were so RIDICULOUSLY over-powered that they seemed cartoonish, basicly making the Death Star (the main threat of most of the OT and even PT) seem like a baby toy. Keep the power creep in check and it should be fine.

The super weapons in the Eu were RIDICULOUSLY over-powered to the point of being cartoonish, but this, even more powerful super weapon isn’t a ridiculous and contrived plot device?

It was the EU, so canon fanboys are entitled to bash it. Typical hypocrisy of nowadays SW fans. Still, this looks like an ANH reboot (or Jedi Academy rip off, I hope Rey will be like Kyp Durron).

“People whine about anything and everything.”

You mean like you, whining about a story of an army threatening and invading worlds being boring?

I guess every film, book and TV show where there are no super-weapons is boring as heII then.

Man, am I glad not to be you.

Time to be the real Tim, myself. Someone is pretending to be me.

Anyways, the First a Order is trying to complete the empires work. Umm, yea a super weapon makes sense.

Database update confirmed. We’re getting closer folks.

To that magical moment where everyone collectively realizes that JJ and Disney have totally failed in their quest to resurrect Star Wars.

So, a Sun Crusher, new Jedi academy started by Luke either in the past or future and someone he trains/trained most likely turns. Seems like we could get some pretty big elements from old EU thrown together.

Any cloning possible? They already using the recovered light saber bit from Thrawn trilogy, maybe they clone Luke too. That is who Snoke is, lol.

The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force…

I hope this “destructive new weapon” has something to do with the force, like an ancient relic or something. I hope it’s not just a really big laser gun, because we’ve already been there… twice.

I’m guessing it is something like the Sun Crusher since it can take out entire systems. Would be great if it was an ancient Sith plan that they are resurrecting.

I just hope they have a good story and script for all these overblown special effects they intend to distract us with. Practical and CGI. S.E. without a story is boring.

I hope instead to have good character development in this movie, more than a really good story, because if the characters don’t work it will be a big problem for the future movie, instead if the story is not that great(but still enjoyable), it won’t be a big deal for episode 8 and 9

I really hope the last act of the movie isn’t about destroying another super weapon. If that is the case, then this really is looking like Episode 4 rehash. Rumors are already abound Finn helps somehow with the superweapon and the Empire is chasing him ala droids in Episode 4. He crashes or escapes down to desert planet where he encounters a local resident who assists him(again, like Luke and the droids). They meet up with Han Solo and Chewbacca somehow to get off Jakku or so we assume they are there. Or they take the Falcon, just like episode 4. You see where I am going with this, right?

I thought that in the new trilogy there would have been a super-weapon at some point, I just wished it to be in episode 8-9 and not in ep7, but we’ll see how it will turn out.

A new (essentially rebooted) story doesn’t interest me so much as what happened to the old story. I hope this is not just a reboot of the Empire vs a small Rebellion with new names. I hope we get a lot of background on how we ended up here because I’m interested in Star Wars and I want the story to continue in a logical way, not just start up with a big new Empire with a new name and a weakened Rebellion (for some reason) also with a new name doing the same thing they did in ANH.
