Tom Baker Recording Voice for Star Wars Project.

Tom BakerAt a recent Doctor Who fan convention, British actor Tom Baker has claimed that he will lend his voice to a future Star Wars project.

From Sci-Fi & Fantasy Network:

“I’m going to be in this new Star Wars thing, you know?” [Tom Baker] told eager fans as he signed his autograph. “I’m going down to record some voices for this new character they’ve created for me, very soon.”

For those who aren’t in the know about Doctor Who, Tom Baker played the fourth iteration of the franchise’s protagonist. The Fourth Doctor is widely considered to be the best out of the “classic” Doctors that came before the series was revived in 2005.

Fourth DoctorAs for what project he’s involved with? To quote his own line from The Day Of The Doctor – “Who knows?” He didn’t state exactly what it was that he would be working on in regards to Star Wars, just that he’s going to do it and do it soon. Given his history of voice acting and recording audio for radio plays, it seems that the most likely fit for him would be something like Rebels or a video game – something that he wouldn’t necessarily have to travel far to record dialogue for. It might be possible that he could be playing a nonhuman droid in Rogue One or in Episode VIII, but considering that he didn’t want to make a huge commitment of being involved with the film trilogy of The Lord Of The Rings, I don’t see him doing something as extensive as that.

Yup! I think the marketing machine for Star Wars is just about ready to kick it into high gear.

We’re gonna get Star Wars up to our ears for a long, long time, and it’s gonna be amazing.

When you think about it, that’s the second time that’s happens. Remember when they had David Tennant so the voice of the droid that taught the younglings how to build lightsabers in Clone Wars? I find that kinda neat.

THE Doctor. His voice would be very Imperial,I could see him as a Moff or that sharky looking inquisitor.

    To quote Lego Darth Maul…

    “aweSOME…..AWEsome….AWESOME…AWWW-SOME!!!”

Great, great sepelchuric voice, and even now in his 80s sounds much the same as he did at 40. Great news.

I heard that over the course of the new trilogy General Hux gradually becomes a Constable while Constable Huxtable slowly becomes a….wait a minute, that’s not clean!

but in all seriousness, who hear believes that General Hux may be a sly not to Aldous Huxley, writer of Brave New Empire*?

      Brave New World, actually.

Could be! I think J. J. said that he might have seen it on a gravestone on his way to work, though.

Quite a scoop! Tom Baker rules. From the vague quote, I get the feeling it’s something other than Rebels. There could be one or more animated projects in the works behind the scenes. John Boyega’s deleted comment about a cartoon comes to mind. I feel there could be two or three series running simultaneously without burning us out or saturating the market. I know as fans we tend to always want more more more Star Wars, but realistically, Lucasfilm/Disney have to balance this brand so it can live on forever. Look at how many Marvel and DC cartoons are successful and imagine if there was a time when we get a tiny fraction of that for The ‘Wars. Peace.

I love the fact that he’s been drinking buddies with Brian Blessed since the late 60s. I expect like Brian played Boss Nass it’ll be a larger than life alien, in Rebels I imagine.
