Star Wars Characters Coming to Disney Infinity Next Year?

Disney Infinity

Disney Infinity is an action-adventure sandbox video game developed by Avalanche Software and published by Disney Interactive Studios. The game uses collectible figurines that are then synchronized with the game, allowing for characters from Disney and Pixar properties to interact and go on adventures. The second edition, Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, has been announced for September 23, 2014. Now is it possible to see our favorite Star Wars characters added in 2015?

From THR:

In an interview with Newsarama, John Blackburn, CEO of Disney Infinity studio Avalanche Software, and Infinity executive producer John Vignocchi dropped a heavy hint that fans can expect characters and concepts from Star Wars to be added to the game in 2015.

Teasing future developments for the game, Blackburn told Vignocchi, “I like your other tease better. We can talk about the future, but that’s far, far away.” Vignocchi replied, “2015 is not so far, far away anymore, is it?” (For those who don’t see the Star Wars connection, you might want to refamiliarize yourself with the very first words of each movie. To be fair, it’s not like they could’ve gone with “long time ago.”)

Judging by the release schedules for the original Infinity and Infinity 2.0 — August 2013 and September 2014, respectively — it seems likely that a Star Wars addition to the platform would headline a theoretical Disney Infinity 3.0 at some point in the late summer or early fall of the year. But let’s be honest: A year already seems too long to wait for the chance to pit both Lilo and Stitch against an evil Sith Lord of your choice.

Never played Infinity. Would like to see Syndrome vs Darth Vader. But Honestly I think putting Star Wars in Infinity is a bad idea.

As I mentioned yesterday on Twitter, I don’t know when the actual filming will resume but I know a lot of people were back at work last week at Pinewood including Mark Hamill.

I’m not really wild about Disney/Marvel/Star Wars crossovers.

I’d really prefer that they keep these properties seperate.

To be fair, this is a children’s game, and not part of the Star Wars timeline or canon. I don’t think having Star Wars as part of infinity is a bad idea, any more than having Batman in the Lego Movie was a bad idea. It simply has no affect on anything in the universe of either of these film franchises. Let the kids have their fun! No one told me as a child that it was a bad idea to have Destro pilot an X-Wing. Heck, a few years ago when my daughter was younger, she used to play with the Attacktix action figure game, mixing the Star Wars, Transformers, and Marvel characters. Is it canon that a Transformer can trounce an ewok? No. Is it fun to watch? You bet!

ALL games are from now on CANON…..

So yes kids game and yes CANON.

Like the phineas and ferb crap.

The opening crawl of the Phineas And Ferb Special *directly states* that it isn’t canon, never mind that it’s completely obvious that, as a parodic retelling of the first movie, it has no impact on the continuity whatsoever.

Ok Now that you put it that way, that makes me feel better about it.

I really think Disney should create a secondary studio just for Star Wars, and not mix things so much.

Also the “Disney” logo would look stupid on a star wars poster.

Why not create a more suiteable logo for it?

I’m pretty sure they’re going to do what they’ve done with Marvel Studios and leave their logo out of the poster while leaving the specific studio name up. Keep in mind that Lucasfilm still exists as a studio.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand Star Wars fanboys’ fear of Disney. No company in the world has better fan service than Disney and if you want to get an idea of how they’ll handle Star Wars, take a look at what they’ve done with Marvel in the 10 years they’ve owned them. Not to mention Disney shelled out 7 billion to buy Marvel, nearly double what they paid for LucasFilm. Trust me, fanboys… Star Wars is in good hands..

Actually Disney bought Pixar for $7.4 billion. They paid $4.7 billion for Marvel and $4 billion for Lucasfilm. Still I agree that Star Wars is in the best possible hands. 🙂

The existence of Sabine Wren says otherwise.

“The existence of Sabine Wren says other wise.” I disagree with you 89%. Sabine is an interesting character, though I would have to agree that the pink or purple colored armor is a little overdone.
