Pic of the Day!

TFA Cast

The cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the cover of Vanity Fair! I think this image really tells us a lot. These will definitely be the main characters in the movie. It also very well matches with all the rumors…

Vanity Fair also states that there will be more photographs and exclusive video and interviews from the galaxy far, far away tomorrow on Monday, May 4.

Stay tuned.

They are in the Falcon – I think.
So the picture can be a kind of hint concerning the beginning of the movie.

A possible opening: Han finds the lost Falcon and then helps Rey and Finn in their escape.

The character placement is very interesting. Rey is practically front and center. This is the strongest evidence yet that she may be the main character (even though Natalie Portman was front and center in TPM Vanity Fair issue in 1999, though she was sitting down below the eyelevel of several other characters.)

Portman was front and center for all three VF covers of the prequels even thought she was at best the third primary character for each film. Anne L. apparently likes to place the lone female front and center.

Yeah, Padme was prominent on all covers. Even Ep. III, where her entire role was basically “Stand on balcony and cry”. Looks like Rey has more to do than that, thankfully!

Yea Harrison looks awesome and it’s funny how obvious that his “Han Solo look” and costume is just how Harrison ford is meant to look. When I see him in normal clothes or in another movie, it just seems wrong lol. He IS Han Solo.

    NOT a reboot!

    • May 3, 2015 at 11:06 pm

It’s a soft reboot. This is not a direct continuation. It’s a new story with all new characters taking the saga in a new direction.

Wish you people that don’t even work in the industry would stop correcting industry people on their use of terms. Go spend more money on stuff that we make thanks.

Oh don’t pic on those not on the “inside” as you put it Anonymous @23:06. They aren’t wrong in saying it’s not a reboot, and it’s no more a soft reboot than Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was to its predecessors. It is a direct sequel, it has continuity, it has characters reprising roles, not replacing them.

There’s been enough of the media’s over-use of terms like “reboot” when several movies have clearly not been reboots.

If you are an “insider”, then please don’t gloat about your so-called position or get mad at people who have waited for this thing to commence after years of Lucas’ revisionist history blanketed the public perception on several occasions involving his franchise.

reboot is a play on the military “booting up” for battle. The empire re-boots is a double word play for the empire gets ready to fight again/fresh new series of sw films.

Sorry dude. That doesn’t make it a reboot. Some Star Trek films aren’t direct continuations, some Marvel films aren’t direct continuations. Doesn’t make them reboots.

I remember that… Lucas revealed all three crawls before the films opened didn’t he? I remember forums going crazy over ep. III’s crawl and the terms “WAR!” and “heroes on both sides” dividing fans over the meanings.

That will never happen in this new era. JJ and Lucasfilm would never reveal the opening crawl before the film opens in December.

Everyone using their real name would spoil all the fun.

As far as starting a racial war, that’s a little over the top, isn’t it?

Yes, I’ve been critical of Boyega. Yes, I’ve bashed him thoroughly at every given opportunity.

Maybe I said some stuff early on that was a little inflammatory….but I’ve toned it down since.

Harrison’s replacing Oscar’s lead role spot for TFA rather than be a major supporting role alongside the 3 young leads? How disappointing.

Yeah great pic, timeless visual. A.L. is great as usual. As for the side tracking crap. To the asshole formerly known as Tim Snow, if that is your real name. I don’t care if you AREN’T racist. Your opinion is often inflammatory and this is not THE BILL O’REILLY SHOW , I don’t come to this site to debate or be shocked, it is not public media outlet, where ” the truth” matters or any of that other crap is espoused. I am sure you would refer to it as “the liberal media” or some other stupid regurgitated catchphrase. This is a site devoted to STAR WARS 7 NEWS. Themoderators can do whatever they like. They don’t have to listen to your opinion! There is no “FREEDOM OF SPEECH” here. It is not the U.S. government. You can say it where ever you would like, but here they can delete it anytime they would like. and I would prefer that they did. Sorry for the rant, but this is a great site other than the people that think that their opinions are better or more correct than another person’s. Of course this is just my opinion. Am I correct?

      @ egocentauri

I think all the ad-hominem attacks and fan infighting needs to stop.

But I’ve been around Star Wars fandom long enough to realize this will never happen.

So hit me with your best shot. Fire away. =)

And I don’t think Chewie looks too bad, they just kinda tightened up the make up and mask around the eyes a bit they’re a little more eyelinerish sure but I’d like to think of it more as an update than ruining his look. Again just my opinion.

What I’m really curious about is Han’s jacket. In the 2nd teaser he was wearing what looked unmistakably like a brown jacket (looks like brown leather). It had identical features to this one, such as the stitching line across the shoulders, the little rectangle below the collar that could be a button, the right breast pocket, and left side cylinders. But in this image the jacket is blue, and I doubt that lighting could cause such a drastic change in color. I really hope this isn’t an in-joke with the production referencing the ridiculous debate over his Hoth jacket, which has ruined the most recent Hasbro Han Hoth action figures for me.

Gonna just throw this out there…pretty convinced that daisy riddleys character IS gonna be han and leias daughter….she looks like the love child of natalie portman and carrie fisher….and looks a lot like kira knightly…who, as i am sure you will all rememeber, played padme’s handmaiden/body double in episode 1….just a thought, could be wrong tho 🙂 Happy star wars day from australia y’all 🙂

“she looks like the love child of natalie portman and carrie fisher”

How is that even possible? lol

Anyway, I agree she’s most likely Han and Leia’s daughter. And the twin sister of Kylo Ren which should create an interesting dynamic.

What I’m not certain about is where Domhall Gleeson fits in the mix. Is he Luke’s son? Questions, questions…

I still agree that the yrs and months leading up to a new star wars movie are epic because of all the banter and questioning by fans.
loving the look and feel of the movie so far and what I am hoping will break Avatars box office perch.
never in my lifetime did I think we would get a sequel trilogy let alone a prequel trilogy.
    star wars truly is forever!!!
“Pass on what you have learned!”
Happy star wars day from Australia.

Something about him looks a tad off.
Can’t tell if it’s the eyes, the brow is not as prominent as before, or his hair is less scruffy looking.

One of or all of the above are slightly out of whack.

That said, he’s far better looking than in ROTS for sure.

Chewbacca’s right arm/hand is not visible in this photo or in the second trailer… Perhaps truth to the idea that he lost an arm in battle and is sporting a mechanical arm.

The main thing about Chewie that is off, aside from his slicked back fur, is certainly the eyes. They look darker around the eyes, more angular, thinner… feminine looking as if he’s wearing eye-liner.

Well, I’ll always be bummed about the EU dismissal, but their use of the word ‘reboot’ means they at least acknowledge it.

Besides, reboots of famous franchise are all the rage nowadays. I heard Marvel is releasing a new continuity of comics very soon.
