UPDATE! Jurassic World Director Colin Trevorrow Rumored to Helm Star Wars: Episode IX?
/Film is reporting that according to Umberto Gonzales from Heroic Hollywood, Lucasfilm will bring director Colin Trevorrow to their panel in Hall H later today, to make the official announcement…
From /Film:
Our friend Umberto Gonzalez at Heroic Hollywood claims to have the scoop. I had been told by others that Lucasfilm was planning to announce an Episode IX director at the Comic Con panel, but could never get a good enough confirmation. Lucasfilm held the tech run-through of their panel in Hall H just a couple hours ago, so its possible that the information could have leaked out of that.
I don’t have a second source able to confirm this report at this time, but Umberto seems pretty confident — confident enough to report it a mere 16 hours away from the scheduled presentation where it could easily and quickly be debunked.
Back in 2012 there were rumors that Trevorrow could direct Episode VII. It turned out that he was actually in the talks for another major franchise – Jurrasic Park.
Also in 2012 Trevorrow shared his vision on what is important for the person who ends up directing a Star Wars movie:
“I have very little to say about it. Certainly, no specifics about whats going on behind the scenes in the selection of that person. I think that I can speak as a Star Wars fan, which is important to me. Whoever does do this movie, I think, just needs to have a fundamental understanding of why its important to us. We come from a generation who grew up with this as children, to us its almost a belief system. Its harder for people who are older or who were already teenagers when the movie came out to understand how deeply it is our mythology. And there are a bunch of incredible directors who are up for this job… I think whoever gets it will have that fundamental understanding of why Star Wars matters so much to a billion people. Its just incredible. So that’s all I can say about that. I’m equally excited about it. … that’s all you’re gonna get!”
Colin Trevorrow will be great addition to Star Wars. We will find out if this report is true in 16 hours, when the LFL panel officially opens. Stay tuned…
UPDATE!
Heroic Hollywood updated their story, saying that Colin Trevorrow wil not be brought out on stage today at Hall H at the Star Wars panel.
Not sure if this means that the whole rumor is false though.

Please don’t! Bring in Cuaron, Reeves or Vaughn.
Why not Vaughn ? I loved Stardust and Kickass, X-Men First Class? Surely he could make a solid SW movie
hes crap thats why, stardust was a mess, kick ass another mess, the second one even worse, kingsman just about makes it but spoiled by his need to shock, hes still very amateur at best.
X men first class, worst one in the whole entire series. totally fucked the ending up. he needs to go back to adverts.
thye also want to stop looking at the big blockbuster directors as well, flash in pans, look towards the more serious director, obscure film. empire strikes back style, much better film for it
I don’t think you understand what directors do.
Jim do you live in an alternate reality to are you trying to be your surname, we get it’s funny. MV would be the perfect director for SW, and all those genre films you are talking about are pretty much some of the most liked films of the last decade…
So what Anon 15:19 is trying to say is that “your opinion doesn’t line up with mine, so therefore you live in an alternate reality and I’m Mr. Perfect.”
X-Men: First Class was great, it was a much needed fresh start from Last Stand which was literally crap. X 1 and X 2 were awesome yes, but First Class stands on it’s own as the third best X-Men movie imo.
EVERYONE would agree this director would make an amazing Ep IX. (Villeneuve) This is the only movie other than TFA that I care about this year.

Someone please tell me he’s right for the job. I don’t know anything about him & all I can think of is Jurassic World which makes me nervous. Rest I need. Yes, rest. Forever sleep..
Sorry, I can’t say that.
Master Yoda, you can’t die.
You all are reporting El Mabye scoops now? He is wrong all the time especially with this kind of thing.
There is no reason whatsoever to believe that Mr. Trevorrow is in any way qualified to make this film.
This would be a terrible choice. Jurassic World was everything a sequel to a beloved 20 year old movie shouldnt be. And not because of the script or whatever. All because of the directing.
To be fair, the Script WAS terrible, but otherwise I agree. Chris Pratt saved that film.
Fucking agreed: scipt was HORRIBLE, but so was the directing. Please God not this guy for Star Wars!
As long as he doesn’t write the script too… otherwise we’ll have Rey kissing the feet to every male character by the film’s end, plus she’ll be running around the jungle in high heels.
Does that mean we might see the ssi-ruuk in episode 9 then?
Totally forgot about them…Hell yes!!! Bring them on film!
Bossk with fresh Raptor DNA.
This would pull me out of the franchise a bit…much like Truce at Bakura did in book form…however – clever observation X… the 6 year old boy in me says, “Jedi Vs. Velociraptors! Awesome!” While the man says, “No…just…no…” 🙂
HA! Wow, that would be hilarious. Forgot about those guys. Wonder if they even exist anymore, or if they will forever remain Legends?
Lol I just mention them cus they look EXACTLY like velocoraptors so I wanted to see if anyone got the reference considering he directed Jurassic world XD !!!
He is good, but there are quite better choices than him: comment #1 above is absolutely right.
No… no… NOOO!!
Please no…what a pile of drivel Jurassic World was …absolutely awful…trained Dinosaurs FFS. Wooden acting by Pratt and the girl Bryce Dallas or whatever her name is. Stay away.
Found another person who does not know what a director does.
Found another person who pretends to know what a director does.
Anon 14:51? Up yours.
You do realize that Directors can change the script (and many do) on a whim. A lot are changed on the spot.
I have been quietly confident abour the Star Wars future up until the last two days when they have announced a Han Solo movie and now this
Now I am getting more confused than a C-3PO on Genosia! J.J. Abrams is “one and done!?” Let the box office receipts and average SW fans reactions (if not mine alone) after DECEMBER 18, 2015 to a few weeks into 2016, to give us all a chance to see it and review it, before saying, “Next batter up!” Hollywood has gone baseball, at the least, before if you produce Star Wars and its BAD? … YOU LOSE! … IT’S NCAA MARCH MADNESS “SW STYLE” OF YOU LOSE ONE THEN YOU’RE DONE! (-o-)
No. Just no. Please let this be fake.
Just saw Jurassic World last night and I must say I wasn’t impressed. It wasn’t bad per se, but it didn’t blow me away. It fell pretty flat for me. Don’t know why they kep chasing these young directors who have one big hit or critically acclaimed film under their belt and just assume they’d be great for Star Wars. We want great directors! Cuaron, Spielberg, hell even Peter Jackson… not kids with one film under their belt who still have a lot of growing to do!
Agree! Too bad Ed Wood is no longer around. He made Plan 9 From Outer Space on a $60,000 budget. Just imagine what he could do with a $250,000,000 budget!
Which one? Alfonso Cuarón or Jonás Cuarón?
I was hoping for Joss Whedon or Kenneth Branagh…
You guys are a bit harsh. Jurrasic World was very enjoyable.
It sucked ass. You must not watch movies with actual good acting and script (its understandable there are so few).
I could have written a better script. Honestly I feel bad for the top name actors in that movie because there was NO WAY they were saving that script.
Yeah it broke records….so did PM.
“You must not watch movies with actual good acting and script” always a great way to come across as a complete insecure asshole. Get over yourself, stop making assumptions, and grow the fuck up.
When Finn and Rey check into a hotel, he’ll play the Force theme song.
^ LOL
Great directors would not take the world and characters, which JJ defined in TFA.
They tend to cherish creative freedom. They might be interested in creating another trilogy down the line.
He’s definitely not a right choice. He can’t make people thrilled or excited with Jurassic World.
Only good quality he has is pulling of old school feeling. He’s not enough for Star Wars finale.
Alfonso Cuarón is the best choice in my opinion. He has spectacular visionary.
Peter Jackson will be okay, if he gets rid of his screenwriter team and uses less CGI.
Please God no. Leave this journeyman director for the Jurassic franchise which he’s shepherded to mediocrity. Leave STAR WARS alone.
Why the fuck does anything I post never show up? Yes, I swore..giving the impression I’m a dick. Only because I know this will never show up on the board. What’s the point of anonymous when it never shows up? I keep thinking, one of these days a comment will show up, but nope, never. Fucking waste of time.
Your comments are not showing because your IP was banned. Obviously you did something to deserve that. Now I removed the ban and I am giving you a second chance. Please be respectful to other users and please no name calling, insults and racist comments.
Is that “white everything” guy? Pff terrible.
Thank you VH. I don’t know what I could have said. I’m certainly not racist. I rarely post anywhere, and I have zero interest in baiting other people. I take your word for it though. You were doing your job. Appreciate you letting me know what the problem was. Hope today is a great day for all us Star Wars fans!
Oh dear god
Disney is one of the biggest entertainment corporations on Earth and has bought Star Wars (one of the biggest movie franchises in history), so why do they persist in choosing bargain bucket directors (JJ excluded)?
He maintained that his next movie will be original and small movie. After that he said to pursue the Anblin movie. I don’t think he take another franchise so soon.
I enjoyed jurrasic world but I really hope this isn’t true as it wasn’t that great of a film and a high calibre director should take on such a bog monumental film.
Jurassic World was no Jurassic Park… but it was 10 times more enjoyable than Lost World or JP3. I enjoyed the film. Regardless of the script or plot of the film (Which I admit is a little out there – but…I mean…it’s dinosaurs in a theme park. We kinda have to suspend our disbelief right from the get go.) I found the action to be really good and it was very entertaining in that aspect. If IX is action heavy than I think Trevorrow makes sense. I think VIII will be the deeper more emotional film, much like Empire was, whereas they will go for a more action heavy finale with IX.
Noooooooooooooo. Bring Cuaron, Fincher or Vaugh!
He doesn’t have writing skill. All the good idea such as functional park, Deno trainer coming from Spielberg.
Kasdon can’t help him because his duty for Solo film.
In that sense, I can’t endorse him. More talented and reasonable fee director such as Kosinski are waiting for the chance.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWaLxFIVX1s
Why are you guys all hating on Jurassic World? That was a highly entertaining movie. I don’t think it was the greatest film of all time. But after plot leaks, I was highly skeptical Colin could pull it off and he DID. The numbers don’t lie.
He may not be the right director for Episode 9, but Jurassic World was a great movie!
It sucked ass
A movie that sucks ass doesn’t become one of the highest grossing films of all time.
Phantom menace is one of the top grossing films of all time and currently the most profitable Star Wars film. So is pirates 3 and all the transformers movies
How about they make a Star Wars movie that’s artsy, and requires basic understanding of symbolism, politics, physics, and history of the modern world???!!….. That’s a great idea!!!
Said no one ever.
That’s like saying Transformers films are good. Please go away! General audience doesn’t give a crap about critics.
Yes it fucking can – have you never heard of Transformers, Twilight or Cameron’s Avatar?
Get out of here and take your stupidity with you.
So much easier to say “it sucked ass” without doing anything yourself.
What SW planet is that? I only see SW movies! What!? There is ANOTHER … nope my favorite movies counting back from 2015 … ??? … 1983 RETURN OF THE JEDI, Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, 1980 EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, 1977 A NEW HOPE! Starting in 1977! 😉
correction: the marketing team pulled it off. The movie was bad, but these days anything can sell big with enough tv spots and merchandising.
that’s why crap like Minions is going to open around 100 million this week.
Get a grip guys and girls..don’t just judge him on JW you need to watch Safety Not Guaranteed. He can GET great performances out of actors and after watching JW, which was decent but not great, he can obviously handle action and effects
SNG’s script was good, everything else not really. Similarly, JW was a Chris Pratt show only.
If he has only done one movie right in his entire career, then why the heck would they go with him instead of a director that has many great films on his directing resume?
He’s cheap, that’s why. Disney seems to be going for Directors with only a few films under their belt. TFA will be JJ’s fifth film. Rogue One Gareth’s third. Episode VIII Rian’s fourth. And that Han Solo film will be Chris and Phil’s fifth. So, I doubt we’ll get a Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg, or David Fincher Star Wars movie if that is what they are going by. Unfortunately.
Lightsaberasaurus…
Just now I remembered that old Youtube vid “how to Kill a Mockingbird”, which features a pirate vs bears vs dinosaurs vs ninjas vs the moon space battle. And at least one of them shoots lightsabers out of their mouth at some point.
I HEAVILY recommend it.
for the sake of my dignity I won’t bother linking the vid, you can google it on your own time.
If true then I’m ok with it. Disney clearly want people who are currently at the top of their game, which means they are taking Star Wars seriously.
No, Disney only care for big chunk of money. Now their motive is never more clear. Make another JW. Nostalgy business plus bigger action piece equal big money.
Well they paid over $4bn for Star Wars so I guess they want a return on their investment. That’s the whole nature of business, to make money. Look, as long as they make good, entertaining movies then that’s what it’s all about, for me anyway.
I would rather him direct the Indiana Jones movie, especially if Pratt plays him. I think that episode 9 should go back to JJ. Just seems right
Wait- I thought JJ was returning for 9? Jurassic world was ok but that makes me super nervous. 9 will be the conclusion of our trilogy of trilogies, it is the most important to get right.
Im not worried by all of this, he did an excellent job on jurassic world if you look at the references of jurassic Park in its the development of the park I think if it turns out that he works on the movie that J.J. Will guide him, afterall jurassic world broke more than 12 records en blew other movies of the screen, maybe this is the moment where we need different aspects on every movie not to get disappointing sequels to keep the authenticity of it by handing the grail from one director to another and each tries to make a new world part of the story
Big money does not mean good movie. you know what, Worldwide gross base, most profitable movie in the SW franchise is Phantom Menace.
That’s not my point, the main focus was on recreating jurassic world as the successful jurassic Park and staying with the roots
huuughhh if this is true, then Disney is truly a 100% in it for the money.
If this is a false rumor, then Disney is still just 80% in it for the money.
please be 80%… please be 80%… please be 80%…
I hope he is a great choice! Weird to think we are talking about IX already!! I hope you all like my Star Wars parody https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WYcdvNjhig
Jurassic World was a good movie.
Star Wars deserves better than just “a good movie”. No one’s going to care about Jurassic World in 20 years.
I will and i know a few other people that will too.
Trevorrow is terrible for Star Wars.
Sure, Jurassic World made a ton of money, but it’s not a good movie. It’s certainly not worthy of the Star Wars brand. At the very least, keep him away from the script.
I think he’s a better pick than Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Gareth Edwards.
All of those people are fantastic directors!
I don’t think Gareth Edwards is a fantastic director.
I personally love Monsters. It’s so moody.
And all the problems with Godzilla don’t come from the directing. The film has some pretty heavy script issues.
Things he could have changed but didn’t.
This is surprising concidering how pissed of Trevorrow was about how the studio handled JW.
Yes , Disney does have shred of decency? Iger seems to keen on his retirement fund only. I am afraid we owe some responsibility. May be we bash Lucas too harshly.
If he was Exec producing, he would not have chosen Trevorrow. This might be revenge from him whom we oust from beloved franchise.
Yes you are right. All that Lucas and Prequels bashing are without any doubt a reason of his retirement and the franchise sold to Disney.
For fuck’s sake… no. 🙁
It’s not Trevorrow. It’s someone….much more interesting.
I’m hoping this rumor is wrong as well. I thought JJ was going to come back anyways?
JJ is burnt by pressure from Iger CEO. He was constantly denied by him regarding schedule, artistic policy, and so on. Disney sucks.
If anything, give him an anthology film, not an episode. Jurassic World had some of the clunkiest scenes I’ve seen in a blockbuster in ages, I don’t think he’s ready for these big movies. Safety Not Guaranteed right into Jurassic World, now Star Wars? Too soon.
Why can’t they just hand it to JJ? He’s passionate, speaks for the fans, knows what he’s doing, and basically is Speilberg in style
I couldn’t disagree w/you more about Abrams, but that’s just a difference in opinion.
The only thing that matters is TFA itself. Can’t praise or put the director down till the actual film has come out.
You disagree that JJ is passionate?! Or that his vision aligns with the fans’?! The guy is all about bringing back the original trilogy charm and you can tell he is passionate about the film and his fans from everything he does. Or did you disagree about him being similar to Speilberg, whom he understudied. Watch Super8 again and try telling me that isn’t just like. Speilberg film (Goonies, and ET especially). And don’t try to say that Super 8 was only like that because Speilberg was involved either
I am actually starting to get concerned that VII will be the only good episodic film. Rian Johnson has yet to impress me and Jurassic World was underwhelming. JJ really aligns himself with what I want in a Star Wars movie, and his past work has impressed me (Star Trek).
WOW! What a monumental nepotistic Hollywood fail it will be if the director of Jurassic World, a “visual spectacle” that lacked even a single image worth looking at, is give the responsibility to tie up this entire trilogy. I cannot believe that someone as sharp and as deep as Kathleen Kennedy would even consider this option unless she were under tremendous pressure from self-serving studio bosses. Like the prequels, these movies will make bank INITIALLY no matter what. What the investors should be thinking about is a director who will maintain and increase the street credibility of the franchise (as in, choose a soulful director so these movies have long term earning power). My hope is still with Cuaron.
…though, as far as Cuaron is concerned, I would support Kennedy’s decision not to go with him if he wanted to take the film in too much of an overtly unique direction, which tends to be the weakness of acclaimed visionary directors.
…Be like the unnamed artisans who built the great cathedrals Mr Cuaron! Be like the ones who left their egos at the door… but, yeah so, like, Colin Trevorrow…
Please no!! Jurassic World was awful 🙁
Zero heart and depth in that movie
Honestly it would make me significantly less excited to see The Force Awakens knowing that the story will be concluded by someone who we have no reason to believe can do it well. It’ll be like sitting through a very long joke when you’ve been tipped off that the punchline isn’t going to be worth it. Do you feel the same?
NONONONONONONONONONONONO that dude is a BAD director.
o god NOOOOOOOOOOOO
this is the worst news I’ve heard about star wars EVER. Im actually scared for the future of the franchise.
Colin Trevorrow thinks he wants to direct a Star Wars film but his desire to do so is like one’s desire to have sex with a glamorous person who they have no sensual connection with. It’s basically an asexual experience that’s all about ego. It’s all about thinking “I’m verile. I’m worthy of this glamorous experience”.
If you possess something you are unsuited for then you don’t truly possess it at all. If you create a myth poorly then you haven’t created a myth at all, you’ve just wasted decades of the world’s time.
I needed a smoke after your comment..
Two consecutive bad decision from LFL.Something is going on. May be there is direct involvement from Disney.
Nooooooooooo Please !!!!! Jurassic World is so casual. All this re-hash and tamed Raptors ?! Seriously ? This guy have zero creativity. The worse rumor ever !!!!
Hell no!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll skip all the movies if he finishes the series. Worst announcement ever.
No you won’t.
I’m a man of my word. This guy is not the guy to finish the series. My whole motivation for the “sequel” will be tarnished leaving me out of the Star Wars universe. Peace out.
Maybe Disney asked to Abrams if he would make ep 8 et 9 and JJ said : “Hum… Well… Noo…”
I think JJ was on an heavy pressure and stress with the movie. One year ago it was reported that JJ Abras had suffer a great loss of weight.
This better be a stupid rumor.
We don’t even know what The Force Awakens is like how are we to decide whether this next film will suit this director or any other?
Yes but filmographyi s a little indication on what we could expect. Even the best can make shit hits the fan though. For example, about JJ, i hated Lost but loved Fringe. And his movies are great movies but with this i-don’t-know-thing missing. I’ve recently seen Jurassic World (where you think you can tame the raptors ? and this big wtf-dino-monster, and the movie end, Jesus! there is only one Jurassic Park for me, the 1) so i’m not very exicted by this guy to direct ep 9
Safety Not Guaranteed was a good movie.
Oh man I dunno… JW had some great moments on paper but I felt were poorly executed. I’d hate to see that happen to Star Wars.
That could been screenplay though…
Edgar Wright or gtfo
I don’t get why everybody is complaining about this. Jurassic World has it’s flaws, but overall is a good movie. There aren’t many places to go with a dinosaur theme-park movie without making people complain, either way. I think Colin could do a very good job on an action packed finale for the trilogy – just like ROTJ and ROTS.
because they are pathetic fanboys that have lost all sense of objectivity when it comes to what Star Wars ‘is’, ‘means’, ‘deserves’, yadda yadda.
I hope not, Jurassic World was really boring, and obvious.
Everyone needs to calm down about Jurassic World. I feel that most are blinded by the nostalgia trip, all too willing to forget about looking at the movie objectively. From a technical aspect, the movie was dull; cookie-cutter, even.
Only so much of that can be blamed on Trevorrow, so I’ll look at shots and the performances he sparked from the actors. Again, nothing notable. The acting was mediocre, and average at best. There were a few glorious shots, but there were tenfold as many average ones.
I don’t think he’s cut out for the job. Someone like Jon Favreau is a much, much better choice. Heck, bring Lucas back.
No, actually, I’d love Lucas to direct an anthology film, but that’s a different discussion. xD
Brad Bird. There is no other. It is his destiny. Disney best go with the flow of the universe, or Episode 9 is doomed.
